Hi, sorry for asking but what are the six arts?

known as "liu yi" the six arts are essentially the basics of education within confucianism, and a young gentleman (junzi) with a proper upbringing was expected to have mastered or at least have some proficiency within them. the six arts were: rites, music, archery, equestrianism/chariotry, calligraphy, and mathematics.

jinwol isn't particularly good at music and equestrianism (he's tone-deaf and animals hate him) and while he is good at archery he has hang-ups about actually shooting living creatures. and that's it's mentioned that his brothers are considered to be overall better than him in the six arts!

Whenever fanfiction has Dean say he hates Cas’s coat or thinks it's stupid or ugly and he wants to see Cas out of it as soon as possible I simply must disagree. He kept that thing for a whole year full of rank water. He saw Cas back in his usual getup and gotar bonar. Dean loves cartoons. He loves costumes. He loves Cas’s coat.

I find it so fun how much drusilla revels in being a demon compared to spike who just sorta... is. he likes being a vampire, let's not get that twisted! but one of my favourite lines in the entire show is drusilla going "oh well I'm not a person see" in lie to me and I don't know if spike has like any lines like that? I mean maybe little jokes and snips here and there but drusilla knows she's not human and won't even entertain the idea of being treated as such

#I don't want to seem like I'm saying spike doesn't care. he very much enjoys being a vampire he does not want to be human #but drusilla is at like a whole other level #spike will do what he wants in order to fit in whether that be vampires or humans or whatever #drusilla is a demon through and through and has no want to possibly pretend otherwise #I don't like the use of pretend bc spike doesn't either. he just assimilates himself when he cares to. but I can't think of a better word #what I'm saying is drusilla would never fit in with the scoobies bc she wouldn't even like. try?#someone tell me ur getting me here #I know... can i just say. and this is probably a niche hill to die on. that i am so gobsmacked every time someone vaguely hints at the idea that jotaro doesn't care meaningfully for the other crusaders, usually particularly kakyoin and joseph, when those two actually tend to be the ones he reacts to being hurt the hardest

like he cares for his loved ones!!!! that literally plays into his character motives in every single part he shows up in!!! stop lying to me!!!!!!!

#me.txt #jjba #i'm going to ramble in tags actually. excuse me #ok. rereading sdc and so confused at the general perception of jotaro and his friends/family. he's not NEARLY as flat or as dickish #i understand that the anime (particularly the dub) tends to slander him but even then he still clearly cares for them! i'm confused #i also understand that a lot of people dig against jotaro and kakyoin as a dynamic because 'they're popular' and that generally disliking #popular things across media is a thing that i've seen consistently everywhere but the discredit to them simply as a DUO and not even as a #pairing is so..... odd..... like they're considered to be a duo that clicks for a reason. i enjoyed them even before i got into the fandom #every time i see someone say jotaro is overrated/dull i take a shot and assume they're an anime-only or only read the manga like once btw #joseph and jotaro also have a neat dynamic and they obviously both love and care for each other. like they're not going to go around loudly #or anything but literally the entirety of the lovers and the prelude to the dio fight IS jotaro being worked up over joseph getting hurt #equally i don't know if it translates to the anime as much but joseph is VERY complimentary when it comes to jotaro. like he sings his #praises so often and reminds everyone that he's his grandson so frequently (d'arby the gamer is a good example of this). either way it's so #peculiar....... there's not enough avdol and jotaro content btw (also in canon) because jotaro obviously looks up to him and avdol jokes #around with him on the occasion they interact after their intro which doesn't start very well. it's very cute #i do think an important thing to note about jotaro's character is how he acts AFTER his intro because he's so drastically different. early #jotaro and later jotaro aren't the same character and i do not mean this in a character development way. excluding the jail incident he's #completely different and probably shouldn't really be taken into account (especially considering the amount of slapstick in araki's intros)#and i think that's really???? what people center on for his character? I find the demonization of Demeter in supposedly feminist retellings of the Hades and Persephone story thoroughly fascinating because she was actually the myth's protagonist

A lot of retellings focus on the "lovebirds" but the myth was moreso focused on Demeter's quest to bring her daughter home than any romance they might've had. In fact, the original source material is entitled "Homeric Hymn to Demeter"

It followed the goddess of harvest searching desperately for the whereabouts of her kidnapped daughter, enlisting the help of deities and mortals alike along the way, and eventually forcing Zeus himself to come to a compromise through sheer stubborness and pure love for her child

An interpretation I really like is that the tale is an allegory for mothers in Ancient Greece whose daughters were taken away from them to be married off without them having any say in the matter

Putting all that aside, I'm really curious as to what prompted people to portray Demeter as a control freak who doesn't want to see her daughter happy with the one she loves when originally, she was simply a mother who fought tooth and nail to see her Persephone returned to her

i do feel like. to understand why jordanna was written Like That in bg09 (as an evil strawman sorority-type girl who exists to be the worse reflection of steph--she's the unnecessarily catty to steph's justifiably snarky, the artificial slutty to steph's effortless, natural, and authentic sexiness, the fundamental unlikeable to steph's likeability, nothing but an antagonist of bad qualities to steph's good qualities) you do need to understand that in the year of our lord 2009 they were taking inspiration for a female led comic book about a girl in college from gossip girl.

#this is also why steph's characterization is altered to be that of a CW heroine #anyways jordanna doesn't have a consistent character because her only role was to be That Girl #the one who exists solely to showcase the good qualities of the protagonist #bqm really thought he probably making a georgina sparks and by god he was just being sexist #and tbf to bg09 a lot of the sexist pitfalls are there because of the surrounding cultural mores of the era #but just as cw shows of the era were. super sexist. so very very sexist.#bg09 also demonstrates the same issues the prevailing media of the time did #anyways mmm i feel like the cw of it all is why i end up so harsh on it sometimes lol #i mean. i have enjoyed cw shows in my time. but god. i hate them so much too <3 #anyways i just. want so much more for jordanna lmao. or any of the side characters #all the people. they all exist as cw side characters in the book. all of them. every one.
