Prompt: Halcyon

Practiced hands ground plants in the pestle and mortar. Add one, crush two, rotate the stone till the mash smears the edges and you can smell the chlorophyll and the fragrances mix. It was a meditation that he’d lived for so long it was like his hands moved without him. Thoughts tumbled and Eronan blinked as he took in a deep breath and around him was the bustle of Rabanastre.

Ears swiveling to the sounds he remembered from years past, he looked around and realized he was staring out from a window. His window. The old apothecary down in East End where he and his family had set up shop generations ago. Something tugged at his heart as he continued to work the mortar and pestle, creating salves he’d been taught over a century prior. The smell of fragrant flowers and herbs freshly retrieved from Giza Plains as he looked to the sorted bottles and tinctures for sale. A heavy burden seemed to lift partially from his shoulders as he settled into the work of adding oil before brushing the mix from the bowl onto parchment. Deft hands worked the paste with his blend tool as he dabbed a bit more oil before he dusted aethersand into the mixture. Fold, smear, cut, fold like a dance on the parchment as the paste softened and he could scrape it up from the parchment to the tin. It was cozy. Home.

There was a sound as the door opened and closed with a trained click. A customer! Eronan turned with a bright smile and almost welcomed the other with his shop’s trademark greeting before it was cut short and died in his throat. He was back in the Siren’s Infirmary staring at a startled shipright.

All at once his heart felt heavy and exhaustion crashed his system as he tried to keep everything in place as his smile almost faltered. His eyes stung, but he was back in the present. “Ah… How can I help you?”

Ok, I recently wrote an essay [here] talking about the definition and duties of civil engineering as well as the ethics because of the brain rot @swordfright gave me with calling Dream Sam’s ultimate engineering project. So, because I actually am a civil engineer I took it upon myself to design the title and summary of quantities sheets just like I do at work for roads but with Dream as the project instead. And in honor of angst day sponsored by @sixteenth-day-event, I figured I’d share it because I feel like it kinda works for the prison of the mind prompt.

“Sam’s “ultimate engineering project” he deemed too damaged like a bumpy road or crumbling building that wasn’t worthy of patching and filling in the cracks or reinforcing, that’s too eroded to be fixed and preserved. So, Sam strived to tear him down to the bedrock so he could remake, remold, and reengineer Dream according to his design for the common safety, public health and well-fair.”

{These are very similar to the actual sheets I make day to day, which I shall not share for the sake of doxing my location, but yea pretty much everything has a significance. Some of it doesn’t necessarily make sense but that was because I was more so taking inventory of what we see in lore (so you know I counted ;) lol)}

the rage I feel when reading Blood of Olympus chapters 45-56 is almost equivalent in magnitude to the absolute joy I experience when reading The Last Olympian chapters 1-23.

remember when percabeth was good? when they meant the world to each other but had other people they cared about (nico, for one. both of them. so much), other worries and other storylines aside from their romantic plot? and when nico's completed arc wasn't repeated for no reason other than to dump more trauma on the youngest character in the series? when background characters were included in the story not for all the unnecessary last minute romantic subplots but because they were fun and fascinating to learn more about? and were actually friends with main characters? remember when grover was percy and annabeth's best friend forever? and antagonists were actually interesting and intimidating and had compelling goals? and the story revolved around friendship and family and loyalty? and death was definite and loss was palpable and battles were thrilling?

yeah. good times.

imagine there’s a day where mc is just EXHAUSTED,(stay with me) and basically he notices them nodding off during class and fighting to keep their eyes open, at first he’s a little annoyed and he goes to tell them as such after class- however he cuts himself off as he notices they’re swaying and still struggling all while standing (STAY WITH ME) so he questions WHY they’re so tired anyways, while cautiously raising a hand to hover just in case they actually do fall. Which they explain that for the last few nights they’ve been kept awake at the HOL and last night was the absolute worst, they try to explain that Levi was mad and mammon then belphie got involved after they bumped into him and.. and… and they loose their train of thought and apologize, (JINGLE JINGLE STAY WITH ME) and honestly mephisto thinks this is RIDICULOUS! Why would they be stupid enough to keep the human from sleeping?? Clearly they are not as strong as a demon, and if the human starts falling behind then it looks bad for Lord Diavolo! He totally doesn’t care about them in the slightest- it’s just a human after all, however they are very important to he just can’t help but intervene! so he does the only thing that comes to mind, later on in the day he tells them that he is stealing them after school for help on a project, which mc being themself they agree despite nearly fully asleep, Which also leads to mc straight up passing out at his place… all according to plan though! But what wasn’t planned was the fact that they were sleeping on his bed…

in the morning mc is very well rested and confused as to why they’re cuddling with the most pompous rich idiot they have ever met, and also have quite a few texts and missed calls from all the brothers. but they end up not really caring because my god that is the softest bed they have ever had the pleasure of laying on,

Damian knew his sculptures were amazing. He threw himself into sculpting as much as he threw himself into being Robin. He could never not give himself fully into his sculptures. 

Lately, though, he doesn’t know how to explain to his family the latest subject of his sculptures. He’s not even sure he knows himself. It feels like a distant dream, a memory he can’t remember. Sculpting the same boy over and over again. The face is never quite right, but he knows he knows this person. Somehow.

Throughout the night, he [Jiang Cheng] had somehow managed to sleep a couple of times. The first reason was that, having been too tired from crying himself weak, he couldn't help from passing out. The second reason was that he still had the hope that this might be a nightmare. He couldn't wait to wake up after some rest and open his eyes to find himself lying inside of his room back in Lotus Pier. His father would be wiping his sword in the main hall. His mother would be angry again and complaining, scolding Wei Wuxian who winked in a funny way. His sister would be in the kitchen, thinking as hard as she could about what to make today. His shidi would be refusing to do their morning lessons properly and jumping around.

Even as children, their shared dreams were a bit spotty, but the older they got the fewer dreams they'd share.

At first, it was Tim's insomnia that was causing problems. Then Tim started following around Batman and Robin. Then came training and being Robin.

Even before Danny's accident, they'd only had a few shared hours a few times a week. After his accident, it suddenly turned into a few hours once or twice a month.

Then came Red Robin and a CEO job.

One day, Tim realizes he hasn't had a shared dream in months. Not even a few minutes together.
