Jonathan Pie, the English commenter has broken down the actual facts of the new Scottish. Hate crime bill.
and to be quite honest with you, I hope the u s g o p does not ever see this.
I am sure they would be stupid enough to try and pass it in the United States.

I'd like to go on record regarding the hate crime bills circulating in our local area. It's important to familiarize ourselves with the language used, as some of it appears to restrict speech, even making certain words a criminal act. I strongly oppose any form of speech restriction, particularly criminalizing words. Let's remember the adage "sticks and stones." The only speech I believe should be restricted includes slander, defamation, defamatory lies, lying under oath, and fraud.

What I've seen people fail to mention is that Nex, after regaining consciousness, went to the nurse’s office who then refused to call an ambulance. Their death is also due to the negligence of the school.

I am so unbelievably pissed off. FUCK HOAs
Oh, my trash/recycling bin can't be visible except on pickup day? Ok whatever fine I hate you but I can deal with this
Weekly inspections?????? FU FU FU FU FU
SECOND NOTICE ALSO WE'RE CHARGING YOU MONEY TO SEND YOU CERTIFIED MAIL OF THIS TOTALLY LEGIT TOTALLY SECOND NOTICE OF WHAT IS ACTUALLY A VIOLATION cue me: checks notes. Hmm. My recycling bin was. on the curb. on recycling pickup day. You know. The day it has to be out. The day it is motherfucking ALLOWED TO BE FUCKING OUT AND VISIBLE.
so. 1) not a violation
I have sent them the trash AND recycling pickup schedules, which are DIFFERENT, btw
I have disputed the fact of the violation
I have disputed the linking of this "violation" to a previous violation MONTHS AGO--their "first notice" in this case was a "Courtesy Notice" LITERALLY 5 MONTHS AGO and they've done so many inspections since then and my bin CLEARLY WASN'T OUT IN THOSE INTERVENING MONTHS so WTMFH
So I am posting like a crazy person here instead of sending the absolutely deranged email I almost sent (I did send a slightly less deranged version with the disputes, and requesting a hearing)
OMG. It has been. Less than one hour since I learned this fun fun news. My bin was out YESTERDAY, y'all. YESTERDAY. I am going to blow a gasket
#it's a relatively privileged problem to have (omg i have a home truly i am grateful) but it's still a goddamned problem and i'm allowed#to fucking complain about it#in case it needs to be said#*rolling my eyes*#i advocate for free/actually affordable housing for everyone who needs it because we ALL deserve a safe secure stable home#whatever type of home that may be#it is absolutely goddamned ridiculous that megacorps can buy all the housing#rent it out at extortionate rates and evict people willy nilly#and we're talking about a “housing crisis” and not a “STOP LETTING CORPORATIONS AND BILLIONAIRES HOARD ALL THE HOUSING” crisis#goddamn.#ha elect me president (ahaha don't do this i am not a good public speaker) and I'll push congress to pass some really neat legislation#hey be more direct: elect me to congress (ahaha don't do this) and i'll WRITE some goddamn nifty legislation and yell about it as long and#as loud as i can until people start to just fucking say yes to make me shut the fuck up#(i know that's not how it works. again. don't actually elect me to a government position)#exemplia gratis:#No individual person shall own more than 6 homes UNLESS they pay a Housing Market Shrinkage Fee for removing viable housing from the market#why 6 and not 2? 2 is a lot! it's excessive! but having A vacation home shouldn't be a crime. Having 5 vacation homes is ridiculous and#awful and whatever but it's not likely to be the source of all our greatest “housing shortage” problems. no. I'm aiming for the absolutely#monstrously greedy and egregious motherfuckers who---ok#hang on. how many homes does the average min and max homeowner own? I would like to see data on that. but anyway#the next part of the legislation:#Homes owned >6 shall be charged X% Housing Market Shrinkage Fee UNLESS they are rented for affordable (15% or less than renter net income)#housing and are actively occupied by said renters. Rented out and charging more than 15% of renter's net? still gotta pay up.#EMPTY housing >6 shall be subject to an additional Y% Housing Market Shrinkage Fee (tax? should I call it a tax?) which increases with ever#month that the housing goes unoccupied. no one living in it? sell it rent it or pay the fuck up. and still pay the fuck up if you rent it#for way too goddamn much money#but like. less. we only REALLY hate you if you sit on empty houses that you don't even let anyone use#ok that's individuals. now onto BUSINESSES#ok so immediately it gets a little complicated cuz like presumably there's rental management businesses that don't own the rental propertie#that they manage BUT there are also companies that just outright own a shitfuckton of housing and THIS is the truly egregious monstrous sid

If ever there was an argument against 'bathroom polices' for trans people other than "leave us the fuck alone", it would be the murder of Nex Benedict, a 16 year old who was Two Spirit. Go ahead and look it up. I recommend the article by Teen Vouge, it lays everything plain and simple.
They were 16. I'm only 17. I'm lucky enough to live in California, where trans rights have decent protections, but this country will not be safe for me or people like me until our rights are guaranteed nationwide.
This has to stop.
It has to fucking stop.
Please, please, please make this stop.

hey by the way. since this is relevant again for reasons. "freedom of speech" does not mean you can say anything you want at any time to any person without any consequences. it means you are allowed to hold and express opinions without interference from the government/public bodies EXCEPT for hate speech and incitement to violence and similar instances
the right to free speech is not your get out of jail free card
#human rights#free speech#etc etc#i havent read up on scotlands hate crime law yet but i have a suspicion that it is not much different#also yes human rights bodies/legislation has its flaws but. yknow. its a baseline of sorts

Hi! Not to sound too ignorant here, but can I ask about the "certain cultural connotations of a slight blond boy who has been lashed to wooden rails and bludgeoned because he's queer" that you mentioned in your tags re: the post about Stede's childhood abuse? I can't seem to make the right connection ^^'
no worries - you're not ignorant. I mean, I didn't even mention the specific culture to which I was alluding. What I was referencing was the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998.
#it was national news at the time and led to anti hate-crime legislation on both the national and state level#like I said#I'm an old#cw homophobia#cw homophobic violence#tw homophobia#tw homophobic violence#ofmd#our flag means death

Today, I mourn the loss of safety for the LGBTQIA+ community. I speak specifically on the horrendous legislation that is currently being passed in Tennessee, however this applies to a vast many other recent situations and determinations in a vast many other states and across our country as a whole.
The LGBTQIA+ community preaches nothing but love, acceptance, and understanding. I beg you to follow in our footsteps and have compassion for the people who have been allowed very little of such in recent times. Our government's priorities are terribly skewed. Their mission is not one of equality, but one of power.
Regardless of what they may say in their reasoning for criminalizing transgender Healthcare and drag shows, their priority is not to protect our children. If they were prioritizing our children, they would be more focused on creating a safer environment in schools and providing easier access to healthcare across the board. If they were concerned with our children's wellbeing they would focus on the amount of children sleeping on the floors of various DHS offices across the country because they have nowhere else to go. Instead, they choose to manipulate and further marginalize an already drastically persecuted community.
Make no mistake - I in no way excuse anyone who uses the LGBTQIA+ community as an excuse to commit acts of crime and hatred, but I also do not condone criminalizing us in that community because of those people's actions. Similarly, I also make no excuses for anyone who uses Christianity as an excuse to commit acts of hatred, just as I also do not condone the stereotyping of the entire religion based on those people's actions. I currently am not a strong believer in any particular faith, however I can claim to have been educated on and raised in Christianity. From what I recall, Jesus spared no mind to who you were or what you looked like or how you lived; he sat with the whores, he spared time for the poor, he healed the sick, and he played in the streets with the children. He paid no mind except that you were not harming those around you and he preached to love thy neighbor - one would think he meant no exceptions to that love.
We are not mindless doodles, drawn into the edge of the page of an assignment only to be furiously erased before being turned in to be graded because we are not that particular professor's definition of socially acceptable. We are art. Just as you have your shapes and curves and colors and deserve to be appreciated and admired and accepted, we also have our own palettes and lines and designs that deserve to be sources of inspiration and hope and love. We will not allow ourselves to be discarded and turned away from the museums and galleries of our country's history. We deserve a spot to be displayed in there just as much as you or anyone else does.
I am a firm believer that the hatred that is fueling this horrid legislation is the same strand of hatred that stemmed many of the world's greatest atrocities. It is the same disregard for humanity that caused the Holocaust, led to the Trail of Tears, formed Asian internment camps, and many more attempts to dehumanize and erase marginalized communities from the relevant narrative.
If you do not see the harm in passing this and other similarly harmful and ridiculously disrespectful legislation, then do me a favor and remove yourself from my life. I have no space in my circle for anyone who chooses to ignore the wrongful criminalization of necessary and affirming Healthcare for transgender folks, of safety for physicans providing said Healthcare, of harmless self-expression in the form of extravagant and flamboyant methods of dress, and of so many more stretches and implications of this legislation.
We in the LGBTQIA+ community may teach peace, but do not mistake that ache for peace as submission. We are not afraid to raise our voices, for we have spent far too long allowing ourselves to be silenced.

I don’t have time for queer discourse. “What if straight people sneak in?” “People are calling themselves bi lesbians!” There are people who literally want to kill us.
#You seriously expect me to care about contradictory labels with the new sweep of anti-trans legislation?#With gay panic legally defending murdering gay people in a hate crime?#Get off the internet and smell the fucking roses!#Queer

A trans picnic event I was going to attend was shot at by someone with a BB gun. I was going to go with my family, including my child n trans sibling, but ended up not doing so. This isn't acceptable. This needs to stop. I'm glad I didn't for the sake of me, my kid, my family, not getting hurt and PTSD from this.
Not only is it going to the toilet, having clothes to wear, some social medias (eyes transphobeland twitter), now it's having a picnic. There's fracturing in the lgbtq+ community directed from transphobic queer people, people who allegedly once marched for rights claiming to hate trans people (people they walked those marches with at the time) suddenly, or there's gay LARP accounts pretending to be gay and spreading transphobic and homophobic rhetoric. Nobody deserves this.

It’s so confusing that conservatives object to hate speech/crime and employment discrimination legislation. Coz laws by their nature are applied universally. You can read them; they just say you can’t discriminate on grounds of race, sexual orientation, gender, religion, country of origin .etc.
But according to the most extreme of the people who oppose them; cis, straight, white men are the most oppressed ppl these days.
So, they should be the biggest champions of these laws. You’ve been discriminated against because of your race/sexuality/gender? How awesome we have special laws in place to protect you!?!

reposting this information to it's own post because asker was a racist.
What's going on right now in the Republic of Georgia / Sakartvelo? A new legislation just passed that official bans - human rights essentially, gay-marriage, gender-firming care and surgery, any 'promotion' of queer identity. Soon after this legislation passed, trans model Kesaria Abramidze was murdered as a direct consequence of this.
Why is this super extra bad? Besides the several many lives at stake, the safety of queer families and the lethality of hate crimes, Georgia's wish to enter the EU is falling to a complete simmer due to this, soon to be extinguished completely. Here is an article about the international reaction to this legislation:
What can you do to help? The biggest thing we currently rely on is international push back especially from the EU members and the possible overturn of this in the upcoming election. It does not help that this law is implemented due to greedy fucks and Russian puppets in Georgia who benefit from this. source:
You might hear many refer to this as 'Russian law' which is due to the fact that Georgia, under this puppet-leadership mimics Russian laws like the 'Foreign Agents Law' that was put into work only a few months prior the law assumes 'only receiving foreign funds makes an organization a foreign agent.' and I don't think I have to explain how horrendous that is.
We also rely on our president to veto the legislation before it goes into 'full effect' (though the consequences and effect have already begun) but even with this the political party which instated this legislation argue to over-ride her veto in parliament. source:
The most important thing right now is vocal pushback, and public support of the queer community. with what happened to Kesaria (may she rest in peace) a lot of trans people are fearing for their lives, and queer families no longer can remain in their own country if they want to continue to be themselves in any way.
Spread love, a lot of it like as much as you can offer to queer Georgians everywhere.

Feels so funny knowing that I will never be as famous online as my insane, racist, abusive father in law who we had a restraining order against. Like he literally called them untermenschen.
Also for context, he is not Jewish. He is just a crazy racist LARPer.
#I honestly find great joy knowing that the Internet is driving him insane#My experiences with him is one of the ways I experienced that nonbinary people are not protected under hate crime legislation#So random to see this screenshot come up#But if you think about it not that random#I'm on the leftwing side of twitter#He is so crazy sometimes leftwing people quote tweet him
