Starship Saturday - Huygens-class survey ship
Introduced in 2499 by Aerofabrique SA, the 85m-long Huygens is a scout ship intended for mapping new worlds, charting slipspace routes, and - in wartime - hunting for raiding targets that can be attacked by UNSC Navy destroyer wolfpacks.

I just finished the Halo YA series. @bloodgulchblog already warned that the ending is bad (in an ethically dubious way, not in quality--the series is good as far as Halo novels go) but it was even more unsettling than I thought. Some snippets that stood out to me:
Dorian is one of the kids who joins up with the UNSC. A bunch of his friends died during the initial attack on their town. Here, he finds out that the attack on the planet started six months prior and the UNSC didn't sound the alarm to "prevent panic". This triggers his distrust for towards UNSC, ONI, and Owen because he believes his friends could have survived if they had been warned.
Dorian's distrust also spreads to Evie, who starts to question ONI's motives. One of the details that I feel like we weren't supposed to read into is that ONI promised the kids a scholarship to college if they agreed to join the militia, which, considering how the books ends is just.......so disturbing.
"They're clearly okay with lying when it suits them." "Evie stop."
LET HER SPEAK!!!
(As an aside, I did like that one of Saskia's primary motives is she's trying to get on the UNSC's good side because her parents sold illegal arms and she doesn't want to be held accountable.)
And then of course, the most horrifying detail:
Victor has completely bought into the UNSC and is the most excited to have joined up. He gets injured and the kids are brought into a room and told that he's not recovering because of an ONI artifact they were all exposed to.
After """"""""getting his parent's permission"""""" they begin the still-experimental Spartan-IV augmentations on him and tell the kids that they will also die if they don't undergo the process. It is a doozy.
"You really think we're boogeymen, don't you?" Yes. Yes, I do.
Dorian is one of those characters that gets written off by the others as being paranoid while saying the exactly correct thing the entire time.
"I was a child soldier like my father before me and it was no big deal, god."
I feel like Dorian is supposed to be a stand-in for the reader because my immediate first thought when I read that Victor was sick is that ONI not only didn't get his parent's permission, but that they made up the disease whole-cloth. Like, with the context of everything ONI has ever done, this is elementary.
I truly can't tell if the intent was for this to be as sinister as it comes off? Because by the end they all "agree" to undergo the augmentations together because found family, greater good, ect ect and I'm left alone in the room like um......they're in high school??
Ultimately, I am interested to see how four teenagers with wildly different motives would make out as Spartans, but I would be pretty sad to see Dorian as a Spartan because it means they beat the healthy (and very accurate!!!!) suspicion out of him. But Dorian the insurrectionist? Yes please.
#woooooo what a ride#there's about a 1 percent chance of this series getting picked back up though#so all we can hope for is a canon fodder mention#or perhaps some lore on a infinite mp armor kneecap or something#halo books

Mobei Jun, Luo Binghe, and Shang Qinghua walk into a town...
Okay so Su Xiyan escaped Huan Hua, pregnant and heavily poisoned... she didn't get far before she gave birth to her son, but she was close enough to the Luo river.
Young Mobei Jun was abandoned by his uncle near Huan Hua territory... he was probably left in some more crowded human settlement (aka a town or city) under the excuse of "oops I lost my nephew! It was too crowded and his hand slipped from mine!"
Anyways, what's not to say that Mobei Jun didn't run away from the main town into a more quiet location with fewer humans, hoping to escape detection (and the pursuing Huan Hua cultivators)... and runs into a young 5 year old Luo Binghe?
Naturally that protagonist halo ensures young Luo Binghe's safety and Mobei Jun ends up having Friendly Feelings for this adorable (naive and stupid) human child. (Luo Binghe in turn gets a LOT of gold that makes his mama drop all her clean washing onto the dirt path, making it all dirty again! Silly mama!)
Ah! There's so many possible routes to go from here!
A. Mobei Jun hangs out at Luo Binghe's little thatch house for a week, recovering from his wounds and Shang Qinghua's little mission goes without a hitch. Airplane never ends up becoming Mobei Jun's spy because he never gets the chance to patch up an injured ice demon.
(Shang Qinghua is actually kind of sort of very disappointed about that as much as he is happy that he's not going to get slapped around for the next couple decades)
B. Shang Qinghua and his motley crew of annoying ass An Ding canon fodders run into an injured ice demon! Who's accompanied by... a 5 year old peasant boy and washerwoman? But also the ice demon is under disguise - aka Luo Binghe's mama dressed up Mobei Jun in her employee's daughter's fancy silks along with a fancy hat and veil to hide the demonic features - and the two groups pass by each other none the wiser of what could have happened.
C. Shang Qinghua runs into Mobei Jun! He immediately swears his life into service of the little demon princeling, but also ends up serving the princelings.... little friend? follower? servant? Airplane is very confused what to call this little itty bitty version of the protagonist who's tagging along the ice demon like some hanger-on.
They weren't even in a brother relationship! More like an idol (Mobei Jun) and his fan (Luo Binghe with his big worshipping eyes looking up in awe.)

By:ladyflufffluff

Alternatively, the Demon Lord and Peak Lords watch Scum-Villain's Self-Saving System.
Characters Watch the Series fanfic. Post-Canon.
Chapter:9/?
Words:97,626
Status:ongoing
A few part in this fanfic :
“I can’t believe it!” Qi Qingqi groaned. “We let a baby be in charge of Qing Jing Peak!” Yue Qingyuan coughed. “Twenty is not necessarily…” “A baby,” Qi Qingqi reiterated. “ Zhangmen-shixiong , most of us were in our thirties or forties when we were named part of the ‘Qing’ generation. We ascended to our peak Lord positions decades after that. And this kid fell into the position of a Peak Lord at barely the age of twenty. He is a baby!” Yue Qingyuan scratched his chin in thought. “Perhaps we could reduce some duties from him…” “Forget it, he managed it for a decade already.”
~~
Fine. I transmigrated into a stallion novel, but why not as the protagonist?! Even cannon fodder is good, but why must it be as the person who abused the protagonist and for the transmigration to happen after all the abuse has occurred?!’ “This almost sounds like if he’d transmigrated before, he would’ve avoided the bad treatment.” Ren Qingyue mumbled. “Don’t be absurd. Remove the almost.” Liu Qingge said. ~~
It’s the handyman Luo Binghe!’ Luo Binghe choked. ‘Shizun, really…’ he thought helplessly, unable to keep a smile off his lips. This kind of Shizun was really too cute. ~~
Also, the fact that even with 3000 women, his stamina could keep up… it seems the protagonist’s halo even reaches his ****.’ … Ren Qingyue coughed. “What… did he say…?” She thought she may have heard wrong. The remaining Peak Lords were too busy gaping and choking on their saliva to answer her query. But really, that answered her query regardless. They’d never thought they would ever hear such a crass, explicit word from Shen Qingqiu. Qi Qingqi facepalmed. “How does that even concern him? Heavens! His priorities are too messed up!” ~~
What did you say earlier? ‘Do you think I’ll tell you’, right? Not only have you told me right now, but you also seem to have said something out of the question and even revealed your future plans! The intelligence of the villains in this world was beyond saving.’ The audience felt a sudden sense of existential crisis. Was everyone in their world like this? Or was it limited to the villains only? “We’re not… that dumb… are we?” Lan Qingxuan finally voiced the crisis in their minds. “Of course not!” Mu Qingfang immediately refuted. He refused to believe this was the standard of intelligence of the beings of their world. ~~
Shen Qingqiu shouted: “Last word!” Butterfly stopped to listen: “What else did you want to say?” Shen Qingqiu thought for a moment, then asked: “How’s the taste of sleeping with an old man in his sixties?” The audience choked for a moment before bursting into laughter. “Goodness! Oh my god!” Lan Qingxuan hiccupped. “He actually asked that!” ~~
…Shen Qingqiu was shocked. ‘What a pure white lotus!’
Luo Bignhe thought in amusement, ‘did he call me black afterwards then?’
~~
Shen Qingqiu calmly fanned himself, not an expression on his face. His mind on the other hand. ‘Not as long as I’ve been waiting for you.’ The Peak Lords, “…” God damn, this baby. The pressure around the Demon Lord had fallen to a minus.
~
Shen Qingqiu, ‘ No, no, no. Your original Shizun really didn’t care about you, he’d rather you died, really…… However, what troubles of mine did you realize? You should say more; I’m also very curious!’ The coughs grew more frequent. Luo Binghe’s brow twitched. Mu Qingfang’s lips twitched. “Goodness, it’s like a chicken speaking to a duck. Neither knows what the other is saying…” ~~
‘Don’t say the same things as you do to your harem! ’ Shen Qingqiu shrieked in his mind, showing a mildly disturbed look which Luo Binghe didn’t miss. Both of Luo Binghe’s brows rose up as his lips curled into an easy grin. The Peak Lords didn’t miss it. Sorry baby, you are his harem now.
Even more horrifying were these lines, these lines! This sentence “make new dishes for you every day,” wasn’t it used by Luo Binghe to make those select noble eldest Misses let go of their anger and willingly enter his harem? ‘Things can be eaten carelessly, but words cannot be said carelessly!’ The Peak Lords, “……” Aren’t you eating them still?! Would this demon brat dare do anything without your encouragement?! Shen Qingqiu thought for a while. ‘ What does it have to do with me? Since he’s already done so for me, I would be a fool not to take it. Speaking of that, the male protagonist being a free cook for me is something worth showing off!’ The Peak Lords, “……” Zhang Qingren sighed. “I really would like to open up and see how his brain works.” “There’ll be too many pits in it for you to see anything,” Ming Qinglan said. ~~
I think I have included too many part 😅😅 really I couldn't hold back there are many amazing scenes
This part had my roll up 😂😂
‘Then, the poison, how was it cured? After doing pa pa pa, the girl’s poison was naturally cured! The Peak lords, “……( ̄_ ̄|||)” Mu Qingfang gaped before coughing and looking aside. No wonder Shen Qingqiu didn’t say anything… Yue Qingyuan wanted to spit a mouthful of blood. What priceless, obscure treasure?! How vulgar?! Who is the damn author for this?! 😂😂‘Even if I only needed to pa pa pa with the protagonist to cure the poison… Like hell I’m doing that!’ The Peak Lords, “……” Let’s tacitly ignore the fact that you’re now cured, shall we?! ~~
I have read a few fanfic in bingqiu fandom but I think it's one the best one ,in there🥰

Speaking of Halo.
What are your thoughts regarding the lack of info on how Jun escaped Reach?
I think the idea has good story potential.
Putting aside A Fistful of Arrows for now.
As I said it could be the focus of a novel maybe.
I imagine he doesn’t like to talk about it.
“Look. It’s a long story, most of it is classified and I don’t want to tell you anyway.”
And I imagine Dr Halsey has no idea.
“We got separated at Castle Base. I didn’t even know he was alive until after the war ended. And he didn’t tell me anything.”
All we’ve gotten so far aside from AFoA (a fan work) were some tweets by Frank O’Connor (what is he up to now anyway) alluding to something about Jun MAYBE having to escape by climbing up one of the orbital space terminal tethers (Which I’d LOVE to see) to get to a pelican or prowler on said terminal.
That and allusions to the events of AFoA in a Waypoint canon fodder post, dismissing them as either half-true embellished retellings or just rumours.
Considering how popular the game Reach is it's almost criminal that they HAVEN'T confirmed anything for this. In the very least would be a great short story. I miss our short story books like evolutions and fractures

I've decided not to reblog it off Flynn's post so I don't spam him with my personal thoughts, but here is my brief opinion while quickly scanning my notes,
I want to preference this before anything else, I don’t hate the ODSTs, but I will bully them until the day I die. What kind of name is Orbital Drop Shock Troopers anyways?? Like Helljumper sounds cool as hell but the units are known as that? It sounds stupid as fuck in my opinion, and I don’t expect anyone to agree with me. I really think they just call them Orbital Drop Shock Troopers for the acronyms.
Despite my opinion on name choices, the ODSTs are bad bitches. Simply the training regime is brutal and aggressive, they go through so many scenarios and borderline almost kill them to get them battle-ready. I can’t find the notes about it, but off the top of my head, the training takes either 2-3 years to complete [please take this at face value, I seriously can’t remember].
Most ODSTs believe they uphold a commando state of mind meaning they can do anything with the right attitude, but there is a downside to this because some of them think they can get away with shit they shouldn’t be able to. It’s like a highschool clique and do not get me started on the way they are about what unit they serve in. They have the ‘I’m better than you attitude’. Among fellow soldiers, ODSTs typically display a cheerful and relaxed demeanor. Yet, in the presence of non-ODST individuals, they often adopt a serious and reserved attitude, appearing distinctly distant and lacking in outward warmth.
Flynn’s right when the ODSTs are modeled after real marines, they think they're the shit, they can do nothing wrong, and are straight jarheads. And are 100% Halo’s canon fodder, several units die right off the bat in Forward Unto Dawn when the Covenant attacks.
They are so prideful of their accomplishments and skill, and they have a right to be. But to the point of failed recruits preferring death over the failure of the program???
Cult.
I get it, it’s not easy and the amount of mental damage you go through gets you bragging rights. But I will never forget that a grown-ass adult tried to beat up a 14-year-old boy over a gym pin. I don’t care if it was orchestrated by ONI to see what the Spartan program can do, it’s the fact that this “high” and “mighty” adult could bully this obviously non-ODST. But man, did they get the realism of that right.
I could go on and this post is like 85% my opinion with facts sprinkled in.

Happy birthday to Warmaster Atriox!
Today is his -486th birthday!
Atriox was born into the Covenant, serving as a member of the Bloodstars. In the later years of the Human-Covenant war, his clan was increasingly used as cannon fodder to break the front lines, seeding a resentment towards the Covenant and its leadership.
Atriox repeatedly survived these encounters, an outcome his superiors did not expect. Over time, he developed a legendary status among his people. Though Atriox was willing to fight the campaign against the humans, he did not share in the Covenant faith. This began to draw concern, and eventually the Prophet of Truth ordered him to be quietly executed to avoid martyrdom.
Atriox was set up to be followed at his next deployment. During a battle, he aired his frustrations to a terrified human marine, denouncing the Covenant faith and the war before killing him. His beliefs exposed, the Jiralhanae that followed him accused him of blasphemy and challenged him. They fought, and Atriox killed him, giving his superiors an excuse to have him executed for killing his own kind.
Rather than accept his execution, he killed his would-be executioner, emboldening the Jiralhanae around him to rebel against the Covenant, forming the Banished.
In the years that followed, the Banished engaged in several raids against the Covenant and the UNSC. When the Covenant fell, they took advantage of the power vacuum, seizing weapons, vehicles, and recruiting widely to all species.
During the Created conflict, Atriox seized yet another opportunity travel to the Ark, intent on gaining the ability to construct Halo rings. His plans were intercepted by a UNSC presence there. While he was there, he learned of the Xalanyn, hidden on Zeta Halo. The battle raged for months, with Atriox no closer to success. In an effort to turn the tide, he sent brothers Voridus and Pavium to High Charity to salvage. However, this lead to a Flood outbreak, and Atriox was forced to leave the Ark to address this more pressing matter.
Rather than return to the Ark as expected, Atriox left for Zeta Halo to seek the Xalanyn. He encountered resistance from Cortana and the Created, which lead to the destruction of Dosiac, the Jiralhanae homeworld. As the battle on Zeta Halo raged, he arranged for an ambush against the UNSC Infinity. He personally attended the battle, targeting and besting--but not killing--Master Chief.
He then turned his attention back to Cortana, who, having realized the havoc she caused, blew up part of the ring, sacrificing herself to stop Atriox, who was then presumed dead. However, it appears that he was only grievously injured, and survived to be an enduring thorn in Master Chief's side.
In canon (~2560), he is turning 50!

2, 7, and 9 for Rtas
2. Favorite canon thing about this character?
Off the top of my head, something: Rtas is a good commander and doesn't just use the Grunts as cannon fodder, he actually has them fall in behind the Elites in situations where he's figured out they're especially vulnerable (ie vs the Flood.) It's a small thing that shows a lot of decency where Sangheili frequently do not give a shit.
7. What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
I think it's really endearing how much of the fandom on tumblr loves and cherishes him even though Halo itself has done nothing with him in so many years.
343 should do literally anything with him again so we can all cheer and clap.
9. Could you be roommates with this character?
My ceiling is too low, he would have a bad time. :(

The Saga Continues: Halo: Epitaph - The Final Fate of the Didact Novel Announcement!
Suppose you are a fan of the Halo universe. In that case, you might want to check out the upcoming novel Halo: Epitaph by Kelly Gay, the critically acclaimed creator of the Charlie Madigan urban fantasy series. The book is an original novel set in the Halo universe and based on the New York Times bestselling video game series. The title of the book is a reference to the Halo 3 multiplayer map Epitaph, which was formally announced during the Canon Fodder live event at the Halo World Championship on October 21, 2022, in a panel focusing on the discussion of how Halo multiplayer maps fit into canon. The book features the continuation of the story of the Ur-Didact, one of the galaxy’s most enigmatic and pivotal figures, who was stripped of armor, might, and memory after he conflicts with John-117 and the rest of Blue Team. The book follows the Didact’s great journey as he reels into the mysterious depths of a seemingly endless desert wasteland, where he encounters a blue light glinting from a thin spire in the far distance. - The book will bring back the Didact and pick up on his story where the events of Halo 4 and Halo: Escalation left off — with his remains scattered into the Forerunner Domain. - Based on the cover art, it's also likely that the Didact will visit the Forerunner cathedral seen in the Halo 3 map Epitaph or at least one that's very similar to it. - The cover art also depicts the Didact wounded and wearing a cloak, making him look very similar to his appearance in a fan-favorite Halo 5 concept art piece. Halo: Epitaph is expected to be released on February 27, 2024. You can pre-order it on Amazon2 or other online retailers. I hope you enjoyed this news story and are looking forward to reading this exciting novel!
Diverse Formats for Fans
Available in paperback, ebook, and audiobook formats, Halo: Epitaph caters to a wide audience of Halo fans. Whether readers prefer the tactile pleasure of turning pages, the convenience of digital reading, or the immersive experience of audio narration, this novel provides an accessible entry point into the intricate lore of the Halo universe. Fans are encouraged to explore the depths of Didact's character, gaining a richer understanding of his legacy within the Halo saga. The release of Halo: Epitaph is a significant addition to the Halo literary universe, offering a deep dive into the trials and tribulations of one of its most complex figures. Through Kelly Gay's compelling narrative and Keith Szarabajka's authentic voice work, fans are invited to experience the story of Didact's struggle for redemption and survival in a galaxy that has moved beyond his former glory. As readers and listeners delve into the pages or the audio of this novel, they are bound to find themselves reflecting on the themes of power, loss, and the possibility of redemption that echo throughout the Halo series.
