Say you break your ankle. You could know everything there is to know intellectually about the injury. Even with this vast knowledge, you will still experience physical pain.
Now take this logic and apply it to things like ADHD, autism, clinical depression, and other less visible/divergent disabilities. You cannot think your way out of feeling.
That is to say: you are not a bad, lazy, or selfish person for struggling, even if you know why you are struggling.

the feeling when, it's not your circus and theyre certainly not your monkeys, but you are, in fact, a professional monkey wrangler, who has trained since birth to become the fuckin batman of managing circus chaos, and you can see that whoever is in charge of the circus and the monkeys is not in control of jack shit and you goddamn know that this is gonna go poorly for the monkeys and the public perception of monkey wranglers. And you will inevitably have to listen to a poorly researched news story about the fucking monkeys and then see the Hollywood dramatization of circus disaster "based on a true story" where every goddamn thing is incorrect. And it's not your circus, and it's not your monkeys, and the person in charge doesn't want your help because they think they have it under control, even if they don't and they really don't. And they're gonna bitch at you if you offer. And you really do have your own monkeys in your own circus to manage. So you just kind of watch the unfolding catastrophe happen. Over there. To someone else. With an in depth knowledge of exactly what went wrong and exactly how little effort it would have taken to avoid disaster.
Not my circus, not my monkeys, but no one likes watching distressed chimps rip off people's faces

The thing is, even if you were lucky and your parents taught you how to clean, they probably didn't teach you how to clean the stuff you clean stuff with, like brushes, mops, sponges, rags, and so on. Or how to clean your cleaning appliances, like a dish washer, clothes washing machine, and clothes dryer and its ducts (if you have a ducted dryer), or a carpet cleaner, vacuum, Or how to clean up clean messes, like spilled bleach or detergent.
My parents threw away all of these things (even the vacuum cleaners and the dryer) when they got too dirty to function, because no one even told them THAT they could be cleaned. Cost them thousands of dollars over the years.
All I'm saying is that cleaning is not intuitive, and not knowing how to clean is not a moral failing, but it is something you can learn.
I'm going to reblog this post with resources for learning how to clean things and how to clean cleaning things (I'm not at my desk at the moment). If you have any favorites, please feel free to add them in too!

every piece of fiction set at “wizard college” i’ve ever seen massively underestimates the insane parties and sex shit that a bunch of college students with magical abilities would be doing

Calling it, this is the fucking Information Age Collapse. Bronze Age Collapse 2.0. We have three or so generations of this shit while everything slowly breaks and then in 1k years archaeologists will be unearthing hard drives and cursing us for putting all our information in such shitty, easily degraded media instead of etching it into metal and stone like a sensible civilisation.

The real benefit of cultivating close friendships is that when you're handed an obvious setup line for an utterly disgusting innuendo, you know whether or not you can get away with it.

I don’t think we should underestimate how much of the UK’s current situation stems from social media - particularly Facebook and Twitter.
I should not be seeing every bit of local news from England, and the fact I do regularly means that right wing people from across the UK are definitely able to infiltrate local groups and spread misinformation.
None of what I’m saying is new or rocket science, but I think there’s not enough people actually clued in to how the far right operate online. Identifying the tactics and pointing them out are a key part of the battle.
