Random bits of SoN re-imagined!!

I have no motivation to write out the plot overview draft for the CJ part of SoN re-imagining because I’ve already written several drafts on paper and converting them to digital always sucks but I still desperately want to talk about it and I’m stuck at home sick right now so this seems like the best time to rant about cool parts of it before I can put it into formal words,

Uhh, starting off Bryce Lawerence gets a character. Since HoO re-imagined expands the timeline by a few months overall he gets to have his moment to shine doing things like; manipulating Percy into decimating everyone in the war games with his powers even though it’s not the Roman way even though Dakota asked him to please not because he wants to try and win this genuinely (ties into hcs about how camp views power usage and stuff-) uh, he’s the one that stabs Gwen, he gets to have a family heirloom Pilum and stuff and like- yeah.

Octavian and Michael get to be shown as being actual close friends!! They pretty much get to be vibing together; silly friends, pals, friends, bros. Idk what I was getting at there, but uh, Octavian gets a character-

Dakota and Gwen also get a character. For plot purposes and characterization Gwen gets to be a daughter of Mithras; they get an extra chapter to actually be focus characters for a second and Gwen gets to like- say more than a few bits of Dialogue!

That’s all of the stuff that I really am excited about, uh. Yeah :3 this was a really weird post but like I said, I still need to type out the full Camp Jupiter part of the SoN re-write

Whenever I think of Camp Jupiter.. I just get so.. mad. Knowing that even after 11 years of Jason's sheer service, even after the fact that he dedicated his whole life to Rome at the age of 2, a ripe CHILD, a BABY, nobody even cared to look for him even 6 months after his disappearance..??

Nobody went "I miss Jason!" Like everyone did in Camp half blood for Percy, even the hunters of Artemis went out of their way to look for him. Jason's "friends" Dakota or Gwendolyn never spared a glance at his direction, his friendship with Reyna was fractured because of communication issues, etc.

Camp Jupiter was, realistically NOTHING without Jason (and Reyna duh) yet they have the audacity to neglect him.

And then they cheaply "made up" for it by giving him some grand state funeral. What's the point? His body was wrapped in an expensive silk, but his soul left that world feeling useless and unwanted. An expensive fancy funeral isnt going to change that.

His funeral was dark and empty, because not a single one of his Greek friends could make it.

Jason Grace was doomed to be chained to the clutches of the soulless camp of Rome till the very end. Like Michael Varus said "born a roman, die a roman"

Camp Jupiter was more or less a dystopian society covered up with beautiful architecture. Like shiny fake gold that wears off its glow.

the reckless, the wild youth (WIP)

(since eda and raine's backstory is so different in this AU, i'm pondering a comic about the two of them and just how and why it went so wrong) (infodump.... ramble?? ig down there + design notes on how my progress is going with this project)

Seb's design notes: anyways i've been dancing with the idea of making canis caninam's witches more animalistic. because yeah im just having fun at this point. bonus, sphynx / owl beast design. i'm not a big fan of her canon design, and it's not because i think she's scary.

my current inspo for the witch faces is a mix of good ol' na'vi 3d models, deerchip's s work (they're on twitter!!) and olya bossak's anthropomorphic portraits!! i didn't just want them to be elves who purr, tbh... though more and more as i post this i'm kind of hoping to get harrassed off the fandom for my weird ideas and "forced" to make this into an original story.

ramble on story derived from conversation with Bow (idea beta tester, victim of the circumstances of my hyperfixation, beautiful white hetero man who got here by accident). IT'S A ROUGH, UNEDITED DRAFT. PARTS OF IT ARE DIRECTLY FROM A CONVERSATION. IT'S ROUGH. Eda is born to the Clawthorne family - daughter of Gwendolyn, a healer, and Dell, a toy maker who married into her clan as to escape the hardships of living outside the barrier, amidst bestial demons... and probably something else, smart enough to scare him into hiding, though that usually goes unsaid. She is one of a pair of twins, and, for the first fourteen suns, eleven moons and twenty-nine sundowns of their lives they are inseparable.

It's their fifteenth birthday when Dell gives them an old grimmoire that has been in his family for centuries. Some of its words have been altered with the years, rewritten and repaired by generations, their meaning lost - symbols re-drawn from memory with each unfortunate accident.

Lilith partakes in that tradition - having to repair a page of a long-winded wild-spell meant to be cast by a powerful warlock, after she spills some tea on it.

that night, the two set out to camp with a group of their friends -hyacinth, a selk nobleman who, despite his young age, served under belos as his huntsmaid and personal cook, and his apprentice, darius, a prodigy who'd already been branded for a coven, and who'd been personally selected by belos to be a companion for the golden-haired boy who'd earned his favor.

and, of course, trailing slightly behind, raine whispers. their glasses are foggy and they already smell like the alcohol they brought to the party.

nobody leaves the outermost wall to camp these days, of course, so the bunch of them settle in an abandoned park, before doing as teenagers do when provided alcohol, and getting plastered.

at some point, eda, raine and hyacinth get into an argument of some kind - one that results in eda opening the grimmoire she brought along, and going along with the plan she'd nearly abandoned: using her rudimentary knowledge of the old tongue the tome was written in, she makes a circle out of salt around herself, and reads the spell.

its words are all wrong. whatever she summons she angers, and, at first, nothing happens.

then, as she and raine lay together on her hammock the afternoon after the party and the tiny backyard camping "trip", eda falls ill.

it was fever and it was vomiting. then the lining of her stomach, then her gums and her teeth and her tongue. her skin sagged and it was like she was all liquid inside it.

raine slept by her bedside, singing to calm her down whenever she awoke. lilith laid in the old manor's basement, endlessly brewing potion after potion to try and quell the pain that refused to ebb away.

darius and hyacinth did not go to belos - instead they were stopped at the door by the clawthorne patriarch, and with his help, took a griffin out of the city, found an old thing. it called itself queen of bats, and it was made of wood, and it knew dell very well.

the three give her the griffin, and spend four sunsets and three sunrises walking back with their prize - it's a living tether, a wooden owl dell had made as a toy for his daughter when she was very young. filled with the griffin's soul, it was given by its enchantress the mission of tethering its holder.

they arrive to a burning house. darius and dell don't speak of it, but the only time they both see the emperor is when they deliver his selk concubine's mutilated carcass at the throne room, laid at his feet like an offering.

dell lost one eye to his daughter, the other eye and both hands to the emperor.

raine was gone to everyone except the thing that eda had become, a sphynx that spared their life for the price of their song. they land atop a rocky cliffface, a few miles away from the outer border of the bonesborough wall - soon, something finds them.

the owl her father had carved for her followed eda, and raine became sure, at that moment, that she wasn't lost.

lilith and darius compensated for hyacinth's loss, sitting for years at the foot of the throne as the emperor's guards, until belos found it fit to entrust them both to make for him a new selkie servant - they took hyacinth's old heart, a blue stone that ebbed and flowed, and they took the lungs of a dragon, the innards of a maiden, and all the blood they could get from a seal-devil, along with a tiny fragment of bone that had been strapped to hyacinth's old heart.

they spend day and night putting him together - the rough face of clay mixed with blood, the organs gracefully gifted, the bone.

they bury the sculpture. a boy digs himself out of the dirt while they sleep in the temple, curled up together in a mess of ratty old sheets they'd found.

they name him hunter because he was more demon than boy, but had hyacinth's face, and, though something seemed very wrong, he had somehow killed and dragged in a rat to eat by their side during the time they'd spent asleep.

belos allows the name to stay, and grants them both titles and robes of white, and allows them to mary whomever they wish.

lilith secludes herself to a temple and studies every grimmoire she can, and darius takes on apprentice after apprentice, teaching them how to pull the throat strings of a bard out, and how to best slay a sphynx.

hunter looks just like hyacinth, and, despite how strongly he'd imprinted on his makers, they both hate him from just the look in his eyes.

lilith finds the portraits of every other selk concubine, every other golden guard.

it's always hyacinth's face. meanwhile, raine managed to unearth eda - partially.

they bind her to them, and she remembers very little, but she is undeniably herself, and despite the tragedy of her body, or maybe because of it, she seeks to cause chaos. she embraces the life of a wildling, and raine follows in her stead.

a year passes. then two. three, maybe. probably more, considering everything that comes after. what really matters is that, as raine grows more frantic in their search for something that can help her, occasionally coming in contact with the fragmented clawthorne family's matriarch (before finding her treatments too harsh), all in search for a way to stabilize eda's mind and body...

she accepts that fate she was given.

the system of castes and castings and divisions becomes pointless to her, and she eagerly, easily pushes raine to rebellion by her side. the wards around the walls have nothing against her - usually, griffins and dragons don't fly that high.

raine found gwen's attempts to heal her daughter too much - but at some point, more than a decade after the two set out together, a night after raine settles a chain with a golden ring around her massive paw's wrist, they catch wind, through that shared palisman of theirs, that raine's mother has passed.

they leave eda to sleep atop the church, tail around its tower, and enter it to pray.

they meet someone - a who who dances on the edge of being a what - and, in their grief, bear to her their heart, and are offered a deal in return.

all they want in life, for a price, their mind.

eda wakes up, a moon later, transformed, and with every memory made vague, erased except for vague outlines.

naked but for a wedding ring around her neck, in a dark, low chunk of the city, with the body of a beast, she's seen as exotic enough to work the night for a couple years, as she catches up on a life she lost, and takes the name of a harpy, not knowing she's a clawthorne.

… clawthorne health clinic seems so familiar of a name, though. she jots down their contacts. attends every speech given by darius deammonne, head of the carnomantis force, and often borrows from the library books on forbidden magic written or translated by one lilith clawthorne.

it's not familiar.

she feels like it should be, though. so she digs into it all - never takes the name of clawthorne, but as her social standing falls and she teeters ever closer to living outside the walls, the people around her take to calling her the owl-lady.

she eventually takes to stealing from old homes - the abandoned sort, full of hobs and rats and hexes she can easily bypass, with magic as strong (as well-trained, despite the lack of any memory of schooling) as hers.

there's a farm-house, though, mostly burnt, long ago vacated, that feels very familiar when she enters. she tears up despite not remembering her, when she recognizes her twin's face beside her own in a portrait. in the rubble of a bedroom, a large woven hammock still has an old violin sitting broken on top of its torn fabric.

inside its case, the thing she knows she gave up her memories - or maybe something more - for, sits waiting and patient.

... a key to the human realm. she knows a lot about it, and remembers an unbound fascination.

(her one visit goes very wrong, of course - but she can spy through her palisman's little eye, so it's worth it. it's all worth it.)

meanwhile, raine wakes up, married to a woman whose face is foggy to them, with three apprentices who don't know their name but promise they've been there under them for weeks.

whomever wiped their mind didn't bother to take the human-styled wedding ring off their finger.

Camp Camp Headcanons 1: Last names

Ok, as many of us have realized, many characters, like the main ones, for the most part, their last names were never revealed, we only have the last names of Dolph, Ered, Nurf, Preston, the Wood Scouts, Miss Priss, (which is his last name), and the founder of Camp Campbell, which is why I have taken on the task of giving each of the missing campers and incidentally also the Flower Scouts, a last name, mind you, they are not canon, it just seemed to me It was fun to do it, I also gave them these last names because they seemed curious or cool to me, anyway, here we go.

i just think it would be funny if percy assumed that jason defeated krios through something magic or with a bit of help or anything, but then one day he learns that. oh no. for all his abilities, jason cannot turn a titan into something else, he can only batter the mortal form so much that it's practically a kronos-cut-into-pieces scenario. and that's exactly what happened.

hazel once mentioning that although jason was so much nicer, people had been more wary of him when she'd first entered camp. reyna saying that it was because of the krios fight, and jason being incredibly vague about what happened and everyone assumes he just summoned a huge-ass storm. reyna knows, but bites her tongue.

and then, one day, it's gwendolyn that tells percy. "you did not want to see what happened to krios."

"was he electrocuted or something?"

she laughs. "none of us got to see the fight, because the two had been in the middle of a hurricane. but when the storm fell apart, i was the first to see jason, and the only one who saw what exactly happened. i'll never forget it: this kid, stumbling forward, dropping a titan's war helmet from his hands, and his face and clothes were all dripping with ichor. behind him, there's a mass of flesh. maybe someone could identify the legs or arm. but where the head should be, there's only... only goo. "

gwen shakes her head slightly. "for some reason though, what stuck to me the most was his expression. the way his eyes had been wide and blank, like a small child. in a moment, he was back to praetor, but right then... it was as if he was confused. that he had no idea what exactly he'd just done."

Halsin's Bugged Ending

Summary: After the Netherbrain, Halsin and Gwen created their own community, a shelter for anyone who needed. During the reunion, however, Halsin drinks a bit much and momenterily forgets the last six months.

A/N: Based on the game bugging for me in the epilogue.

Six months had passed since the defeat of the Nether Brain. 

Six months since the tadpole was extinguished and Gwen’s mind was quiet again. 

Six months since she and Halsin, along with many other refugees, left the city and created their own community, hidden from the rest of the world and open to any who seek shelter. 

Now, the couple found themselves back at the camp where their adventures began, alongside the others. Withers had organized the party, gathering everyone, including Scratch and the Owlbear Cub. 

After getting misty eyed from reading the letters from old acquaintances, Gwen decided to go speak with everyone else. From the corner of her eye, she saw Halsin and Astarion drinking, but she knew the druid well enough to not worry about it. 

“How have things been?” Wyll asked. He and Karlach had spent the last quarter of a year in the Hells, fighting Zariel’s armies and were now closer to solving the tiefling’s engine problem. 

Gwen told him about the commune she and Halsin had created, about the children, Thaniel and Oliver. “I even convinced my mother to go live with us.” Gwen laughed. “She was mad about me disappearing for so long, but she quite likes it there.’’

“And are you happy? I remember how you used to say you wanted to keep adventuring.” 

She sighed. “If you spent the first eighteen years of your life in the middle of the woods, with only your mother as company, of course you’d want to explore what the world had to give.” She said. “But that was seven years ago, and after all we’ve been through, I’m glad to have some peace and quiet.” 

Gwen paused, thinking of everything that had happened. “I’ve found that I quite missed this sense of normalcy.” She smiled. “Besides, waking up in your lover’s embrace everyday does make things a whole lot better.”

Wyll chuckled. “Talking about him, where is Halsin?” 

“He was talking with Astarion, I believe.” 

On cue, the vampire walked up towards them, a playful look on his face. “Dear Gwen, may I have a moment with you?” 

She looked back to Wyll. “Go on, I’ll see you later.” She nodded and turned her attention towards the elf. 

“What did you do?” 

“My, why do you assume I did anything?” Astarion said.

Gwen raised a brow. “You’re making the same face the children make when they’ve done something they shouldn’t.” She put her hands on her hips. “Spit it out.”

“You’re no fun.” Astarion pouted. “Fine. I may have gotten the big guy drunk.” 

“What?” Gwen’s eyebrow went up. In their time together, she had never seen Halsin drunk. She even began to question if he had the ability to do so. “How did you do that?” 

“We were commenting on how good the wine was, and I managed to convince him, Shadowheart and Minthara to do a little drinking competition.” He explained, smirking. “Either the wine is too good or Halsin’s much more of a lighter drinker then I assumed, but he was the first to get shit faced.” Astarion laughed. “It was quite amusing, actually.”

“Why?”

“Well, for one, he was talking about how he was oh so happy to see you again after so long. How these six months have been so lonely without you. He asked us if you had been seeing someone and when we said yes, he almost burst into tears.” 

Gwen sighed. “And where is he now?” 

“I think Shadowheart had left him near the water. Good luck with him.” Astarion said and left, the little shit. 

After walking a bit, she found the druid sat on the ground, his legs crossed while looking out into the river, a bottle of wine in his hands. 

She approached him silently, and put a hand on his shoulder while taking the wine. “I think that’s enough drinking for you, love.” 

He turned around, eyes widened. “Gwendolyn Gray…it’s been so long.” 

“Okay, you’re way more drunk than I thought if you’re going to be using my full name.” She whispered. Gwen sat down next to him and took his hands. He hadn’t heard what she said. 

The druid looked at her, eyes full of sadness. “Is it true what they said? That you have found someone?” She bit her lip to contain a laugh. “I won’t judge you for it. You are not tied to me after all.” 

She nodded. “Yes, I have settled down with a certain someone.” 

Halsin sniffled. “That’s…that’s good.”

“Yes.” She nodded. “He’s a great guy, you know. Big heart, gentle but a fierce protector of nature. Also extremely handsome.” 

“I see…” He looked down. “Well, you and your partner are always welcome in my community. I would…love to see you there, one day.” 

That broke Gwen and she let out a laugh, confusing the elf. “I don’t understand what’s so funny.” 

“Darling, I’m talking about you!”

“What?”

She leaned closer to him. “I think you might have drank too much.” The sorcerer pressed a kiss to his forehead and stood up, offering her hand. “Come.”

He did as he was told, brows furrowed, following Gwen. Halsin saw her speaking with Jaheira. The other druid laughed and then cast something on him. 

In an instant, he felt his mind clear. 

“Halsin, in the past six months, where have I been?” His lover asked. 

“You came with me, with the other refugees. We have our little community, away from prying eyes.” Gwen sighed. His brow furrowed. “Why the question?” 

She laughed and shook her head. “Nothing, nothing, I just wanted to see if you were alright.” 

Confusion was written on his face. He put a hand on her shoulder. “My heart, are you well?”

Gwen smiled, putting a hand on his cheek. “Everything's perfect, my love.” She kissed him on the lips. “I’ll explain later. For now, let’s enjoy the rest of this party.”

It was always about the Hero of Olympus, the one who defeated Kronos and led the battle of Manhattan, the one who was offered immortality by the king of the gods himself, the one who restored glory to Rome by returning the golden eagle, the one who became praetor of the Roman camp in 2 weeks with limited training.

Percy Jackson had pulled off everything in 2 weeks that Jason Grace wasn't able to accomplish despite dedicating his whole life for duty. 11 years of blood, sweat and tears, simply gone down the drain.

Jason had failed his camp. He had failed his home. Turns out, he wasn't as great as the people of Rome had once preached about him. It was obvious considering the less than warm welcome he had gotten from his so-called “home”. 

He received no hugs, no cheers, no “we missed you jason!”, no “I was so worried about you!” or even a single pat on the arm by his “friend” Dakota. Dakota and Gwendolyn hadn't even spared a glance at him.

Nothing. Instead, this new Jackson boy was held up to worship like a god amongst the people who once considered Jason a “hero”.

Jason laughed bitterly. Was it selfish of him to be disappointed with Reyna? With a pang, he got to know that Reyna hadn't sent a single search party out to look for her “best friend”. Not like Annabeth did for Percy, not like Thalia did for Percy.

With a pang, he got to know that the whole camp basically deemed him as ‘dead’ and Reyna hadn't even set up a memorial of remembrance for him. The camp had simply moved on with their new hero. Without a single shred of thought for Jason Grace.

These thoughts of doubt gnawed on Jason's mind, slowly eating him up ever since he'd first seen Percy Jackson in those damned praetor togas that once belonged to him. 

He didn't dislike the boy, of course not, it wasn't Percy's fault that Hera wiped their memories or switched camps.

 But it was hard for Jason to not resent him, or feel even the tiniest amount of envy, knowing that Reyna willingly replaced him with Jackson. Very quickly too, at that. He overheard Octavian blabbing to his lackeys about how Reyna “was head over heels for Percy almost immediately” 

“I guess that's it. Maybe I am someone who is easy to replace.” Jason thought, his eyes pricking as he looked over from the flying ship, at the place he once used to call home.

Jason watched remorsefully as Thalia, Grover, Percy and Annabeth were all gathered at the table in camp half blood, cracking jokes about dam french fries or whatever that meant.

Thalia caught Jason's eyes, staring at all of them from a distance. She smiled softly, and gave him a tiny wave. He weaved his lips into something that was meant to look like a wry smile, but it came out as a slight grimace, as he waved back.

Thalia was so close to Jason, yet so far away.

He knew she loved him, but it felt different. And an annoying, nagging part of Jason had known that Thalia would never be as close to him as she was to Annabeth or Percy. 

Ironic isn't it? Jason and Thalia were always connected since they came from the same womb, yet she was closer to Annabeth, a girl she'd found after she had run away from the same woman that had given Jason to the wolves. The same woman who had turned his life upside down by abandoning him. 

Thalia had found Annabeth right after she thought she had lost Jason. In a strangely ironic way, Jason felt like he'd been replaced all over again.

Thalia had replaced Jason as a younger sibling with Annabeth without even realizing it, all of this took place mere months after a baby Jason was considered to be dead. This situation had strangely reminded him of Camp Jupiter, how he was replaced by Percy right after Jason was considered “dead” by Camp Jupiter.

This made Jason reach the possibility that if he were indeed “dead”, he wouldn't be missed. People wouldn't bat an eyelash. Since there was always someone better than him. Someone like Percy Jackson, who could easily fill the void Jason would leave behind.

His eyes watered, as he looked at how much fun his sister had with his friends. Knowing full well, that he'd never be able to do the same.

Jason felt ashamed that he had to ask Percy about Thalia’s likes and dislikes, he was thalia’s brother. He was supposed to know.

Jason watched as Thalia quickly hugged the trio, as she left their table to leave with the hunters, not even realizing that there was one person whom she forgot to hug.

Don't take it personally. Don't take it personally. She just forgot. She doesn't hate you. She just forgot. She doesn't prefer Percy over you. She's in a hurry. That's why she forgot. Jason repeated that like a mantra, the only person he was trying to convince was himself.

“And he rejected immortality!- oh you should've seen Zeus' face!” Annabeth exclaimed to Hazel excitedly, as Percy was blushing at the compliment fountain being poured at him by Hazel and Annabeth.

Jason had always been fascinated by that story, the almighty Percy Jackson getting offered to become a god, by Zeus.

His father. Jason's father, Zeus. 

Jason felt stupid and guilty for getting envious, it's not the fact that Percy had been offered immortality, no. Jason couldn't care less about being immortal. It was the person who offered Percy invincibility that bothered Jason so much. 

Jason knew that even if he went to the ends of the world to accomplish something, his father wouldn't be able to praise him or even talk to him for a long time. 

Zeus and Jason could never be like Hades and Nico, or Poseidon and Percy. That's just how it is.

Reyna had come to camp half blood for a fun visit. Jason would've been ecstatic in other circumstances, but in this case, he wanted to be as far away from her as possible. Because currently, Reyna seemed to be looking at everyone, but refused to meet Jason's eyes. She seemed to keep her distance as she laughed at something Percy and Piper were saying. 

She may as well have just stabbed him, it would've hurt a lot less. 

He had truly been naive to believe that he could make amends with Reyna. Now he knew, it would never be possible. There was too much pain mixed with bitterness on both ends. But seeing her get along with Percy reminded him of the old times of friendship he and Reyna had shared. Keyword: had.

Once again, the fates had shown him that Percy Jackson would always be better.

As Jason Grace lay on the cold floor, coughing out blood. He realized he was alone, he was dying, but he was alone.

Like always. The sickly voice of Gaia, that had once haunted his nightmares, boomed in his head. Jason knew he was hallucinating as a result of blood loss, Gaia is in deep slumber. But that did not stop the voice in his head that was invented by his insecurities. Even in the end, you've been forgotten, Jason Grace. Because that's what you will always be. The second best. The leftover. The pawn who is discarded, after his purpose has been fulfilled. Percy Jackson would always be better in everyone's eyes. 

To the Romans, you are simply the one who betrayed his lineage. But Percy is the one who restored glory. He did your job for you.

To the Greeks, you are simply a burden, one whom they were forced to welcome.

To your father, you are merely one of his many sons. 

To your sister, you are a stranger.

Jason's resolve to live had weakened, hot tears were streaming down his face as he closed his eyes in defeat, he had come to the painful conclusion that nobody is going to come find his body. Nobody is going to mourn him.

“Oh I will always be much better than you at this! Bring it on, dude!” Percy laughed as he striked his play sword lightsaber at Jason's. They clashed. 

“You wish, Jackson!” Jason shot back jokingly, as they sparred playfully with toy lightsabers.

“Jackson, you jerk. You were right after all, you will always be much better than me” Jason laughed bitterly, as he recalled that memory of his sparring session with Percy.

 Suddenly everything went black. The life had successfully ebbed out of him.

Little did Jason know, was that someone had indeed come to look for him. Tempest, his Pegasus had come to retrieve his body, but Jason was long gone. People had indeed mourned him. His friends were, indeed, anguished. His sister was, indeed, heartbroken.

Jason's soul parted this world, with the knowledge that he'd always be The forgotten Hero.
