Gwen Stacy is definitely overhated, not only from people who think she's "the real villain" for not telling Miles she was an anomaly and for living with Hobie when she was otherwise freaking homeless, but also from people in our side of the fandom. I really get making fun of her for being the token white character, and it's all in good fun, but some of you are unnecessarily mean to her, this going specially to those Miles and Hobie writers, I really thought we were past forcibly antagonizing the female love interest just because we were attracted by a character.

Gwen is a kid who has been betrayed, manipulated and hurt in so many ways, and still deals with the grief of the traumatic death of her best friend. When Miles suffers it's "we gotta protect him" and when it's Gwen it's "she's a bitch" like they're both the same age make it make sense.

part of what made across the spiderverse so perfect was that it was largely centered on WHO spider-man is, in EVERY universe. not just Miles, or Peter, or Gwen, or Miguel. Spider-Man. it was about the ESSENCE of Spider-man. Spider-Man is love for humanity. Spider-Man is having to sacrifice and lose everything you love for the mask. Spider-Man is rebellion against the powers that be. Spider-Man is about trying to do both, in every universe. about not taking no for an answer or listening when everyone tells you your destiny. refusing to choose between the things and people you love. that’s why Spider-Man is so compelling: they want everything, even though everyone else tells them they can’t have it. that it’s not meant to be. and they just. keep. trying. keep getting back up. they just keep going, man.
