LUtober day 9: Festival

Day two of Hallowed Week in Hateno brings about a festival. Warriors has his reservations, but Wild just wants to dance with him.

“Why am I here again?”

“Because,” Wild said, dragging out the word, “It’s Festival Day, and I want to spend time with you.”

Warriors stared at them, not quite comprehending. “Why?”

“Gods, you’re as bad as our Veteran,” Wild huffed. “You’re my friend, that’s why! Now come on, stop moping and let’s have some fun!” And with that, they dragged Warriors into the throng of the crowd spread out along Hateno’s main thoroughfare, their pockets jingling with rupees to spend. A sigh escaped Warriors, but he let himself be dragged along—better to go along with this than be compared to their grumpy Veteran, after all. He had several hidden daggers on his person should the need arise, anyway.

The chatter crashed into his ears, leaving his shoulders tense even as Wild squealed with delighted anticipation. The lanterns from the feast yesterday were still strung up between houses, as well as the carved pumpkins sitting on porches. But now, brightly coloured stalls had been set up, merchants calling out their wares over the cacophony of the crowd. The sweetness of baked treats rested heavily on the wind, turning Warriors’ stomach. Folks on stilts dressed in bright costumes wandered above the crowd, and somewhere amongst it all, a band played music, a high and lilting tune with lutes and reeds and tambourines.

Wild gasped excitedly, dragging him over toward the band, where dozens of people danced together. Warriors faltered, eyeing each of them off warily. “Champion, what if the Yiga—”

“Gods,” Wild said. “Be quiet and dance with me, Captain!” They took his hands, pushing them back and forth with the beat of the music. Warriors ignored their attempt, searching the crowd, and Wild took advantage of his distraction to lift one of their hands, forcing him into a spin that left him stumbling over his own feet and tripping to the ground.

“Oops,” Wild said, not at all sorry.

“You’re a rascal, you know that?”

Wild grinned. “Come on, Captain. Let go for a little while. Dance with me.”

A sigh escaped Warriors, but he gave in, a smile lifting his lips. “Alright. But be warned, I have two left feet.”

Wild beamed, hauling him to his feet. “I’ll take my chances.”

ppl who are talking shit about the manga just because Endeavor is not in jail and the others still talk to him -what are you even talking about?

Some people already talked about how relatable this is for Asian families and the society that punishes in any case victims more than abusers -but also, this is really common in other contexts too. Idk who is able to just get a whole family to agree on punishing the father, of all of the members (usually the one that holds the most power, emotionally and economically), and start the whole process to get him to go jail. Who thinks this is so easy?

Dabi expected to change the way people saw his father by exposing him, but as we saw, people still consider him a hero and admire him, and in any case people were criticizing his inability to control his kid. Are we not reading the same manga? Their society is literally trying to be the same as it was, because thats what the status quo does. You think a war or two change what is considered good in a system? You think the cycle could just stop so easily? That society doesnt support abusers, especially when the one who exposes it is "the villain" accusing "the greatest hero"? Or you even think, in a micro level, that its easy to cut ties with your abusers, especially when they tell you they want to change for the better?

Family is extremely important in many, many cultures, to the point that is a relevant point to bring up in political discussions -the familial structure just changing a little bit is considered reason enough to vote the far right. Women are still shamed collectively for getting divorced, labelled as bad mothers, bad women, inhuman. Kids not talking to their parents says worse things about the victims than the abusers. Why wouldn't you talk to them, after everything they have done for you? Why wouldnt you, when you owe them your whole existence?

And you are here, expecting a divorce, everyone going no contact, Endeavor in jail and everyone all of the sudden thinking they should get into other people's privacy -because getting abused, hurt, etc, at large, is considered a personal problem, that you should resolve on your own without involving others.

Because thats what its normalized, not acting when people need help. That's the whole point.

Everything will be the same. Except it just can't.

And its worthy to show the how to start getting there, than pretending things would change just like that..

We are living with the rising of the new far right trying to get votes, multiple genocides while the military tries to recruit using tiktok, AI and cute girls, multiple countries maintaining slavery systems and models, accelerated exploitation of nature, people and life in general, climate change and covid deniers getting in power... And you think a war and the exposure of abuse would change a society and social system in that way?

No, the change doesnt come from magic, just like that, but thru action and organization. Im hoping the next chapters can show us how Izuku feels about most people pretending everything is fine when he cant agree.

Honestly, Dottore with reader as playable chars is such a funny concept. You know people who build supports chars as dps, like Barbara, Qiqi, me with Candace, all that stuff. Dottore insulting the absolute idiocy of the player, while wearing something like under leveled noblesse w/ lvl 1 fav. greatsword, while his lover gets the perfect artifacts, weapon, 3 crowns etc etc, with the motivation of "their autoattacks are so cute, I want to see them more often >:"

OMG YESSS... this actually made me realize duo playable Reader and Dottore would be a lot of investment... two separate weapons, level-up materials, artifact sets, talents. You would be spending a LOT of resin on these two and probably end up neglecting one of them if you don't plan accordingly. In this case, Dottore. The poor Harbinger is hitting double-digit damage (giving Dottore The Bell weapon, just to be even more evil) while Reader, despite being the support character, is somehow hitting in the six-digit area for showcases. Needless to say, he's very much not amused at the player's antics, more because now he has to deal with Reader flaunting how much stronger they are compared to him. Unfortunately, it seems like he's going to be benched for a while despite being out on the field all the time...

thoughts:

Himiko Toga never chose a villain name because she has always been the monster and demon for others, internalizing it. But also because she isnt trying to be someone else, but proudly show herself and her love -AFO exploited this to reaffirm the previous, so she never even realized she could give her blood for others.

Ochako Uraraka's goal and arc isn't finished until we see a few main points: "who will save heroes?" A discussion about heroism and saving, and I wouldnt be too surprised if saving villains also come up here as a developed version of the first. They are all people, and that's what matters over their assigned roles. "Himiko Toga". Where is she? Ochako's arc can't be finished until we see or hear what ended up happening. "What does she feel about it all?" She needs a resolution and express her feelings, and with the hiding she has done recently I cant help but wonder even more about Himiko's state, as she is the person who makes Ochako feel safe enough to talk about her thoughts. And lastly"You like him, dont you?" What will happen with her love for Izuku? Is she going to hide it, confess, talk about it more with Himiko? I still think about "the reveal" during her fight with her, and her hair covering her whole face... It could be because she "needs" to tell and show her whole face to Izuku*. I would prefer it another way tho

*She said she admires Himiko for being able to say her feelings and love who she does with her whole face, if I remember correctly, while remembering an Izuku who is looking somewhere (someone?) else smiling. I believe its important that she doesnt have her face shown there, but we still dont have a clear reason why. Is she just not able to show that love to Himiko because she hasn't shown Izuku first? Is it because she no longer feels it? In the next panel she says shes now going to stop her, we can see her face, and her mouth is covered in blood. Is it because their battle was never about him? Because she is ashamed of those feelings? Because she doesn't want to engage in them?

With chapter 425 taking us by surprise because of her first interaction with Midoriya after the war, I prefer to think she has her hair covering her face because she still can't be honestly herself with him. Partially? Yes completely, but she can't tell him her feelings like with Himiko.

I hope she expresses her feelings to the class, to her parents, her friends, the civilians... but I really don't think a confession to him and him only would solve anything.

She doesn't want or can't chase him and his feelings like with Himiko; Izuku is acting weird, upset about many things, and she doesn't see that, im sure she would have tried to help if she actually knew. Even tho she looks around to find a crying Himiko, she doesn't try to do the same now, and in fact rejects it; she decided her feelings are not for him or others to see, at least at the moment.

So how does Hori plan to change this in such little time? Is Izuku going to chase after her, when thats what he has always done with everything he wants? Doesn't he deserve to be chased back? Doesnt she deserve the right to decide how much of herself she wants to reveal to him? Or mourn the loss in her own terms, in case Toga's dead or she thinks she is?

With her feelings for both Midoriya and Toga she has tried to put heroism first, focus only on that; with the first one because she fails at her goals and just blindly imitates him without finding herself, and the second one because she shouldn't feel that way and questions herself over those quite frequently.

I have no idea if Horikoshi plans to make her put her feelings first for him over heroism like she did with her -risking it and acting against what a hero "should" do so they can both just be Himiko Toga and Ochako Uraraka.

I have no idea, but it would make me so sad if he did.

EDIT:

In chapter 424 we see Shoto first in the hospital, when the narration explains things cant be as simple as Deku thought as a kid. Then Ochako appears, with her arm over her stomach probably thinking about her fight. It can't end so easily, and I wouldnt be surprised if chapter 427 or 428 was about them.

Fun thought: what if Himiko is the one about to see Spinner? jkjkjk. It could be cute tho.
