Ever since your mission with Hotarubi, you've been hanging around there more often. It was a breath of fresh air to have ghouls that actually valued who you were and your safety. Not to mention, their dorms were calming to be in. A true joy. You sat in the tea room, sipping on some blend that Subaru had made.

"How have you been?" Haku asked, sitting across from you. His gaze was focused on papers in front of him.

You hummed and set your teacup down. "Honestly, I want to get off campus. I feel like I'm being suffocated."

"Really?" He shuffled through the papers and picked one out. "But the campus is huge. It's odd for you to feel that way."

"I guess I want to be in the real world for a bit."

Sure, you went out to the real world during missions. But it wasn't the same. You wanted to walk around the city, go to cafes, go shopping. Like a normal person. Being surrounded by supernatural dangers constantly was taking its toll. Not to mention, you felt somewhat jealous whenever you saw Shu and Leo just leaving campus whenever they wanted and having fun. You wanted to have fun too.

"You know, a new cat cafe opened up in Tokyo. We can go visit."

You sighed and shook your head, leaning back. "It's fine. It's too much of a hassle to get a permit."

Haku frowned. "Let me handle it. I'll get the permit, take you out, and we can have fun. No missions, no ghouls."

You gave him a playful smile. "You're a ghoul, Haku."

He let out a chuckle. Despite your initial complaining, you didn't seem too closed off to the idea. It would be fun, afterall. Haku’s eyes traveled over your form. God, he wanted to be your boyfriend. He wanted to hold your hand, to walk with you to classes. He wanted to take you on dates, to see you blush. He wanted to see those pretty lips of yours to call his name, to moan, to whimper. To wrap around- 

Too far. He shook his head and gave you a lazy smile. “So it’s a date?”

"Sure, why not?" You said, chugging the rest of your tea. You stood up. "Speaking of dates, I have a study date with Kaito."

"Sure." His eyes darkened for just a moment. "I'll text you."

You were grateful for Haku. He had always been there for you since the beginning. Even when you wanted to run away, he was there by your side. You didn't even realize how much you relied on him. On his calm demeanor and his wise words. Without Haku, you probably would have gone insane long ago.

You found yourself looking forward to this outing. It would take at least a week to get the permit. That whole week, you were jumpy and excited. Everyone had started to take notice. For some reason, you kept it secret. You knew that someone would want to tag along. It wasn't as if you didn't want that… no, it was. You didn't want anyone to tag along. You wanted it to be just you and Haku. No one else. 

When the day finally came, you went to the station a bit early to meet with Haku. And to your surprise, he was already there. It was odd to see him in his casual clothes. A neatly ironed white button down, stylish forest green pants, his hair nicely styled. He looked good. You walked up to him with a smile. He turned to you, blinking. His eyes lit up as he studied you. A blush spread across your cheeks and you turned away. You sheepishly stepped closer to him.

"Hi."

"Hi." He replied, smiling down at you. "You look… cute."

You didn't know how to react and just muttered out a thanks. Haku led you onto the train and towards the bench. When you sat down, he sat close to you. His shoulder was touching yours. Okay, this vibe was definitely more than friendly. When he said it was a date, you thought it was just a joking comment. But now you were positive that this was, in fact, a date. 

Nerves washed over you. How were you supposed to act now? Your eyes traveled over to him. He was staring at you. Shit. He was staring at you. Your hands started to sweat. This was fine. Just act like you normally do. Haku wouldn't judge you. He totally wouldn't act like you're some weirdo and lose any positive feelings for you.

"Ah!" He took out his phone and opened it. After tapping the screen several times, he tilted it towards you. "This is what they sell at the cat cafe. Basically you play with the cats first then we can eat and stuff."

You leaned closer to him. The sweet and fresh scent of his cologne hit his nose. "Oh, the food looks good! Does anything catch your eye?"

"You."

"Huh?" You turned your head to look at him. His face was close to yours.

"I said that the parfaits look good."

He leaned back, putting his phone in his pocket. He turned back to the front and crossed his arms. Haku was definitely playing with you. Your face flushed red and you turned your attention back as well. Haku made small conversation on the way to the cafe. Just simple stuff. Classes, new friends, what ghouls are causing you trouble. It was like he didn't notice how nervous and flustered you were. Or maybe he did and he just didn't want to embarrass you any further.

Haku said your name loudly, causing you to blink. "The kitty wants attention."

You looked down at the kitten that was meowing in your lap, trying to crawl up your shirt. "Oh. Sorry, little kitten."

You reached down and started to pet it. You gazed over at Haku. He had a cat in his lap, purring as it nuzzled against its palm. A flash of jealousy passed through you. It wouldn't be so bad to be that cat. You looked down at the kitten and lifted it, bringing it close to your face. It licked your nose, making you scrunch it up.

"Aww, you're such a cute kitty!" You giggled.

"I think you'd make a cute kitty."

Your head whipped over to him. "What did you say?"

Haku grinned at you. "I said that cute kitty would make a good pet."

He was most definitely fucking with you. You frowned and turned away from him. "Stop teasing me."

He scooted closer to you. "Why? It's fun?"

You let out a squeal. After protectively holding the kitten against your chest, you shot him a glare. He grinned. He was most definitely enjoying this. That feeling rose up again. The feeling of wanting to tease you over and over. Until you were a begging mess, staring up at him with those big cute eyes of yours. God, he wanted you so badly.

"Shall we eat?"

You huffed but nodded. You set the kitten down and took Haku's hand. He led you over to the cafe area. Now that it was practically confirmed this was a date, you had calmed down. Only a little. There was something about Haku's teasing that had made your nerves alleviate. Besides, you trusted him. Even if this day turned out bad, you knew you two would be friends still. He wasn't the type of person to just ghost you. Well, he was a ghoul. So he would ghoul you. Yeah.

After you two ate, you spent time exploring the city. Partway through, Haku had wrapped his hand around yours. He said it was so you wouldn't get lost in the crowd, but you knew better. Your fingers were intertwined tightly with his. By the time the two of you got back on your train, you had a smile on your face that just wouldn't go away.

Haku's arm was wrapped around your shoulder as you leaned against him. You were tired but happy. It really was a much needed day out. He let out a pleased hum and pulled you closer. This was nice. This was exactly what you needed. Haku. You needed Haku.

"Thank you for doing this." You mumbled.

He sighed softly and nodded. "Of course. Anytime."

"This… This was a date. Right?'

"If you wanted it to be."

"Haku!" You scoffed and sat up. "Be serious."

He didn't like that you scooted away from him. HIs arm brought you down to him once again. "Yes. It was a date."

"Okay."

"That's all you have to say? Okay?" He snorted. 

"Yeah. It was… okay. Nothing special."

Haku rolled his eyes. "Are you teasing me?"

"Maybe."

"We can't have that."

He grabbed your chin lightly and coaxed your gaze to his. Your breath caught in your throat as he leaned in and brushed his lips against yours. It was at this moment you were glad no one else was on the train. You leaned in and pressed your lips against his. The kiss was soft, the lingering taste of sweets on his lips from the cafe food. A shiver ran down your spine as he tried to pull you impossibly closer.

This was heaven. His lip brushed against your bottom lip, asking for access. You parted your lips and tilted your head, deepening the kiss. Haku groaned and pushed you backwards until you were laying on the seats. His body adjusted so he was hovering over you, his knee pressing into you. Your mind was starting to melt. You wanted more. You craved more. Your hands traveled down to his chest.

"You have now arrived at Darkwick Academy."

The doors dinged and slid open. You could hear a hiss of disgust. "Seriously? In public?"

Your face turned a dark red as you shoved Haku off you and to the ground. Ren was standing there, his lip curled in disdain. You quickly stood up and brushed yourself off, mumbling an apology. Haku's face was dusted a light pink as he tried to hold back his laughter. After he stood, he grabbed your hand and led you off the train.

"That was so embarrassing!" You groaned, squeezing your eyes shut.

Haku chuckled. "Your expression was priceless!"

"It was your fault for getting so handsy!"

"Yeah? So you don't want to kiss me again?"

"I never said that!"

"Good." 

Haku pulled you in for yet another kiss. His hands gripped your hips as he tugged you close once again. Oh god. You were going to get addicted if he kept doing this. And for some reason, you knew that's what he wanted. Your hands gripped his shirt tightly, wrinkling the fabric. It took everything in your power to push him away.

"Wanna come over?" You mumbled, looking away. "I have tea."

"Don't mind if I do."

His arm wrapped around your waist as the two of you walked off towards your dorm. Your heart was pounding in your chest and your hands were shaking, but you couldn't be happier. Meanwhile, Ren stared out the train window as it slowly pulled out of the station. He was absolutely repulsed. Witnessing an intense makeout session was not on his list for the day.

Is drinking tea when he hears your dramatic sigh and exclamation, and it brings a smirk to his mouth.

“How would you like to be kissed?” He asks, demeanor calm, moves telegraphed as he sets his tea down and turns to watch you fluster over an answer.

Unable to give him one, he tilts his head before moving into your space, caging you against the sagging cushions and blocking your legs with his plastron. “How do you want to be kissed?” He asks again

When he gets nothing but wide eyed blinks and a deepening blush, he continues:

“Do you want sweet kisses like the petals of flowers brushing against your cheeks?” He leans in closer, breath brushing against skin starting to grow sensitive from imagined touches “Do you want a tender friend to sip from the honeyed nectar of your lips?” His breath is now a ghost upon your mouth, his words breathed in and taken into your lungs. Finally, he whispers, “do you want a desperate lover to coil his tongue against your own, to seek the treasure of your sounds of pleasure at his touch?”

He waits, a moment, a heartbeat, for your eyes to flutter shut, before he pushes up off the couch, taking the fevered fantasy tinged blue and the scent of tea with him.

“Something to contemplate.” He says with a devious smile, grabbing his tea and heading out of the living room.

He’s wiping the sweat from his workout off his arms and face when he hears your pathetic whine, and he immediately looks in your direction incredulously. Babygirl wants a kiss?

You don’t realize the trouble you’re in until his hand is under your jaw and he’s tipped your head back. You have a moment to think Red before he’s licking into your mouth and swallowing any sound you might have made at the abrupt attention.

When he’s got you thoroughly stupid from lack of oxygen and the way he nips at your mouth whenever you move too slow to reciprocate, he finally pulls back and looks you over.

“Need more?” He asks, tone low and striking the tinder in your gut, fanning the coals there back to life. When you only blink up at him, dazed and chin slick with combined drool, he laughs and dips his head back for another taste, licking up your jaw before covering your mouth once more.

Swirls of his tongue, painting over yours, smothering your moans with the thick of his tongue before pulling more out of you with his teeth tugging on your abused bottom lip. His thumb pressing against your cheek and holding you open for his slow perusal

“You need to be kissed , and kissed often.” He told you finally when he pulled back. “Anytime you need some lovin’, sweetheart, you come find me.”

The couch protests when he pushes off it, and you stay exactly where you were left as he walks away, blinking up at the light and wondering what on god’s green earth just happened.

Mikey pauses the game when he hears you whine from the couch behind his head, baby blues wide as he all but spins around and stares up at you.

“You want kisses, sunshine?” He asks, sounding surprised, before a grin breaks out across his face. “Don’t gotta tell me twice, come here, baby!”

Grabby hands, pulling you down the couch and taking the cushions with you, til your back is on the seat and you can’t breathe from the giggles as he blows a raspberry against your cheek before peppering your face with kisses.

When you beg him to stop, he chimes off with a “nu uh! You said you wanted kisses, and I’ve got plenty of kisses, angel.”

When you finally grab a hold of his mask tails and hold him still for a proper kiss, your jaw and cheeks hurt from laughing so much, but who needs to catch your breath when Mikey is giggling against your lips. Certainly not you, certainly not now.

His kisses taste like the cinnamon hard candies you got him just to spoil him, and he sighs happily into the affection, plastron pressing you against the cushion.

When his hand sneaks to your hip where your shirt has raised up and starts tickling you however, you can do nothing but squawk in outrage into his mouth, fighting to wiggle out from his hold while he continues to press kisses to your cheek.

Donnie

Donnie turns from his project and blinks at you in surprise when he hears you lamenting your lack of kisses, his hands still fiddling with the small project he’d brought to the living room to keep busy with while hanging out.

“You’re protesting a lack of affection?” He asked, finally, pushing his glasses up his beak with one long finger while watching you. When you nod eagerly, he sets the little project aside, turning to face you more directly.

“Are you wanting me to kiss you?” He asks, tone a little playful, golden eyes dancing down your features to land on your lips for just a moment. When you pout and nod again, he chuckles, rocking up on his knees to shuffle into your space.

The first touch is testing, a mere press of lips, before you huff loudly and his break crinkles in amusement. His head tips to the side, hands coming up to frame your jaw and hold you in place while he kisses you deeply.

You sigh into his mouth, and he pulls back, glasses fogged up and soft, dorky smile breaking out across his face. “Better?”

“I was hoping for more than one kiss.” You told him, tapping your feet along his calves. He hummed at that, his smile solidifying into something a little more mischievous. “You were lamenting not being kissed, you never specified how many kisses.”

He waited until you were sputtering mad from that point before he kissed you again, the little snort of his laugh almost lost between the press of your mouths.

I loved winter; it was probably my favorite season. I adored the frost forming on the windows, staying at home under a wool blanket, watching a TV series with a hot chocolate in my hands, snuggled in Charles' sweet embrace.

But I also love race days, where you’re surrounded by fans who care about you and all your friends. It's a different kind of warmth from what Charles gives me, but I couldn’t give up either.

It seemed like a pretty calm day. As always on race days, my boyfriend accompanied Leo and me to the paddock. There was a light breeze, but no sign of rain or, worse, storms. Or at least, so I thought.

I was nervously biting my nails: Charles was fighting with Piastri for second place. I noticed Leo, curled up in my arms, starting to fidget.

“What’s wrong, darling?” I whispered, petting the little dog to calm him. A loud thunderclap tore through the sky, and the hand stroking his soft fur froze immediately.

My hands began to tremble, and my eyes widened. Adrenaline rushed through me, and soon the shaking spread through my entire body, making Leo even more alert as he began barking insistently.

Arthur quickly turned toward us, and in a swift movement, I felt his warm hand on my shoulder and his body heat surrounding me.

“Y/N, it's okay, I'll take you to the drivers' room,” he whispered softly, trying to calm me down.

I weakly nodded. Walking was difficult; my legs felt heavy, and my heart was pounding. I saw all the journalists' cameras pointed at me, and my vision blurred from panic.

Arthur sat me down on the couch. “I’ll bring you some water; in the meantime, put on the headphones, okay?” he asked, looking me directly in the eyes. With a slight movement, I reached for the headphones and turned on the classical music. By chance, the soft sound of a piano played, one I instantly recognized: I knew those notes by heart. I had heard them so many times at home, they were Charles’ songs.

Leo stretched out beside me on the couch, and I ran my hand through his fur, feeling his warmth reassure me. I closed my eyes and completely lost myself in the music, which drowned out the thunder.

I was immensely grateful for Arthur’s quick thinking; without him, I don’t know what I would have done.

After what felt like an eternity, I felt someone pulling me close, and my cheek pressed against something. When I looked up, I saw Charles gazing at me with his green eyes full of love.

“How are you, mon amour?” he asked, placing a sweet kiss on my forehead.

“B-better,” I whispered faintly, as I buried my face in the crook of his neck.

“Hi guys,” Lando greeted with a smile, as the chat filled with comments and hellos. “Today we’ve got this little monster with us,” he joked, poking my poor cheek with his index finger.

Suppressing a sincere laugh, I turned to him and lightly smacked his head with my lemon tea bottle.

“Hey, watch it, don’t flatten my hair!” he whined, running his hands through his curls several times to give them back their volume.

“You’re lucky you still have them, the way you treat them every day!” I said, pretending to be annoyed, turning my full attention to the chat. “Yes, Carlos Sainz is a bad influence on him,” I whispered, answering a comment.

“You’re just jealous of my perfect curls,” the boy laughed, raising an eyebrow. His expression was so funny that I burst into laughter.

Suddenly, Lando went pale, and his face turned incredibly serious. My laughter slowly faded as I asked, “You’re not offended, right? Because if I hurt your feelings, I’m really sorry, I didn’t mean to—” I couldn’t finish the sentence because Lando pointed behind me. Slowly, I turned, and on the white wall of the room, among his precious helmets, was a giant spider.

A strangled squeak escaped me as I jumped into the boy’s arms.

“You’re going to take it out, right?” I asked anxiously, wrapping my arms around his neck in what was probably a death grip.

“Not a chance,” he whispered, clutching my sides, also visibly terrified of that abnormally large, many-legged spider, black as coal, with those tiny eyes that looked ready to jump on you at any moment.

“Please, do something!” I said, continuing to stare at the creature, which was calmly walking among the helmet collection.

Reluctantly, we stood up from the chair and grabbed pieces of paper and a transparent glass.

“Lando, on my count of three, you trap it, and then we take it to the balcony,” I whispered from behind him, so that if the spider bit or moved, it would be Lando who was at risk. I know, I’m a fantastic girlfriend.

“One.” The boy took a deep breath to calm his nerves.

“Two.” Lando got into position, holding the glass and the piece of paper just right.

“Three.” In one quick motion, Lando trapped the spider and ran towards the balcony, shuddering as if he had a thousand little legs crawling all over him. He quickly opened the sliding door and released the spider outside, slamming the door shut behind him.

“Gross,” he spat with a disgusted face, squirming like he was doing an especially wild dance, still feeling the sensation of tiny legs crawling over him.

It was a day like any other. Oscar had asked me to meet him in the drivers’ room because he needed some advice. It was probably something related to the race, or maybe he just needed some reassurance.

When I arrived at the door, I knocked, feeling the cold under my knuckles, but there was no answer.

“Oscar, it’s me, can I come in?” I asked, pressing my ear against the surface to catch any sound coming from the other side, but nothing—everything was silent.

Worry started creeping in with a thousand doubts: maybe he wasn’t feeling well, or worse, something had happened.

“Oscar, I’m coming in,” I said, trying to sound firm and decisive, but the only thing that came out was a hesitant whisper.

When I turned the metal handle, the room was partially dark, but I didn’t notice at first. Maybe Oscar hadn’t arrived yet, or perhaps he wanted to surprise me. As soon as I took a few steps into the room, the door clicked shut behind me, eliminating the last source of light.

My breath caught in my throat: I had been afraid of the dark since I was little, and Oscar knew that. Quickly, I walked toward the door and grabbed the handle, pushing and pulling violently, but nothing happened.

I started knocking incessantly on the cold, anonymous surface. “Please, let me out,” I said with a desperate voice, fearing that something or someone might emerge from the darkness surrounding me.

Luckily, after a short while, I heard two male voices talking outside the door, followed by a loud click: the door finally opened again. In front of me were the two McLaren drivers. Without thinking, I threw myself into Oscar’s arms, and he held me tightly.

“I told you it was a terrible idea,” Oscar whispered to his friend while tracing comforting circles on my back.

“You’re both jerks,” I said with a pout, mostly directed at Lando, but without pulling away from the calming, safe warmth of my boyfriend. I could stay in that position forever.

Today, of all days, was the one that every child dreads: going to the dentist. Only I wasn’t a child anymore; I’m now considered a grown, healthy adult.

I’d love to say this fear is innate, but that would be a lie. It all started when I was seven years old and had to have a baby tooth removed. I had never been to the dentist before, and you could say I was quite curious, like any child. While my parents talked with the doctor, I wandered around the room and found some instruments attached to a strange machine. Naturally, I reached out to touch them, and of course, I cut myself on the metal. The dentist was mortified, and my parents told me to be more careful.

I know what happened was just a pure accident, but that event, combined with the scary stories the other kids told—probably exaggerated—developed into a fear that refuses to go away.

Carlos held my hand tightly as I nervously bit my nails, my leg trembling slightly, unable to stay still from the tension.

“Miss Y/N Y/L/N, please follow me,” said the dentist.

Through clenched teeth, in a whisper, I said, “I don’t want to go.”

Carlos looked at me with a reassuring smile and eyes full of understanding. “I know, mi amor, but it’s just a checkup, nothing’s going to happen to you.”

“Will you come with me?” I asked, pulling him up from the couch with me, and hand in hand, we headed to the “torture chamber.”

Throughout the visit, I couldn’t stop thinking about how the dentist could make a mistake and leave me without teeth, but every time I looked at my boyfriend, my fears eased. Just losing myself in his brown eyes was enough to understand that everything would be fine.

“All done,” the dentist said seriously. I’m always amazed at how this man never smiles.

As soon as I got off the chair, I immediately reached for Carlos’ hand, feeling his warmth.

“So, how did it go?” he asked with a sincere smile as we walked out of the clinic.

“He didn’t smile once,” I said, still a little stunned by the experience.

Carlos laughed at my statement and squeezed my hand even tighter.

Morning came slowly in a warm wash of soft blankets and clean sheets. You thought you might still be dreaming. Closing your eyes you begged to savor the moment you felt in safety and comfort.

Time passed, and you became confused, and then anxious. You slowly opened your eyes and found yourself looking around a traditionally Japanese styled room.

You sat up slowly and felt the melted ice pack slide off your shoulder into your lap. Then the memory of the previous day returned to you, along with all the aches and pains. You felt the bruising in your shoulder, the sore scrape on your knee, the deep burning cuts on the bottom of your feet. And a headache that felt akin to a bad hangover.

But none of that mattered to you. In this moment, you reveled in your freedom. You were not locked in a glass cage. Your every move was not being watched. You were not held down and-.

You stopped your train of thought. Unwilling to allow yourself to relive those memories again.

Your eyes traveled around the room, taking in the decor, and you spotted the glass of water left for you hours before. Gingerly, you scoot over to it and took it, downing most of the glass in a few gulps. That seemed to give you renewed energy.

Then in the dark room, you noticed that a light was still on in the lair. It’s warm glow filtering in from under the tapestry hanging in the doorway.

You pulled yourself to the edge of your bed and slowly, quietly, stood, supporting yourself with a hand on the desk. It took a few long minutes of swaying to feel confidence in your balance again. But when you were ready, you took a step. Then another. And another. Your feet burned, and you flinched every other step, but you slowly made your way to the room’s entrance.

Your fingertips found the edge of the drapes and you peeked out into the main room. The light seemed to be coming from the small kitchen. Then the sound of quiet steady snoring from the living room caught your attention, where you spotted a bald green head peaking out from the edge of the arm rest.

The new space made you feel a rush of excitement. You couldn’t remember the last time you had the freedom to leave your room. Then your stomach rumbled, and you realized with surprised clarity that you were probably starving. You didn’t want to wake up Leo, or bother any of these newly met mutants just for food. But some movement in the dimly lit kitchen caught your attention. Curious, you took a careful step out into the dark room.

“Well now, what do we have here?”

You were startled so badly you lost your balance as your knees buckled under you. You looked up quickly from your spot on the floor and found a wise old looking rat mutant gazing at you, stroking his long beard.

“Even injured, you move with the silence and grace of a ninja.” The mysterious old man observed. You looked up at him puzzled, a small blush creeping across your cheeks. You reached for the door frame to help pull yourself up on wobbly legs, then the old man offered you a hand. You looked him in the eye and found no deception, before timidly reaching out and taking his hand.

“Come, you must be hungry.” He said warmly. He felt, fatherly in a way. His hand offered you support as you walked together slowly to the kitchen.

“Huh? Oh! You’re up!” The cheerful orange mutant greeted you. He saw you slowly walking in with the assistance of his father, and quickly looked between the two of you nervously.

“Uuuuuuhhhh, hey dad! This is- well-“ he stammered. The old rat held up a hand to the young turtle asking for his silence.

“I understand we have a guest. We can save the questions for after tea.”

“Right! Right. And pancakes!!!”

Mikey rushed over and took over from his father and helped you into a chair. The old rat took a seat across from you.

“I see you have met my sons.”

You paused a moment, then nodded.

“A-are there…. Others here too…?” It took you a moment to find your voice.

“Others like us? No. Though we have a few human friends that come to visit from time to time.”

You nodded thoughtfully, wondering what kind of people they kept as friends.

Mikey had busied himself mixing pancake batter in a large bowl, humming a tune. The kitchen was a bit of a mess, and there were some dried stains on the old wooden table. You were surprised that the stench of the sewer didn’t seem to reach their home.

Home.

That was a word you had greatly missed. People lived here. This was a family. A family of mutants that had carved out a safe place for themselves far away from some sterile laboratory.

The kettle on the stove began to whistle, and you heard a groan from over on the couch. Leo must be waking up.

Splinter stood and attended to the tea pot, pulling out an extra cup from the cupboard. You took a deep breath and breathed in the aromatic scent, feeling your tense shoulders begin to relax.

“Here, this should calm your nerves.” He said as he poured you a hot cup of tea.

You took the offered cup and held it in your hands, letting the warmth seep into your bones. You saw your warped reflection in the brown liquid, and felt a strange wave of emotion wash over you. Quietly, you took a small sip of the tea, the earthy bitter taste warmed you from the inside out.

The smallest hint of a smile pulled at the edges of your lips, and the old rat smiled at you in return.

“My name is Splinter. What may I call you?” He asked warmly.

“……..(y/n). My name is (y/n).” You answered.

Conversation was light and warm. Leo had eventually stretched and came to sit at the table. After his father poured him a cup of tea he perked up like a freshly watered plant. There was an amusing moment where he seemed to realize with slight shock and panic that you were already sitting at the table and enjoying light conversation with Splinter. Mikey had put on some pop music to sing to while he fried up literal mountains of pancakes. Donnie eventually trudged in clearly still half asleep and Mikey handed him a cup of coffee that he had mixed in an alarming amount of sugar into. Even Raph eventually came in, freshly showered by the looks of it, just as Mikey placed the plates of pancakes on the table. The smell had your mouth salivating.

“Aaaaaand, here you are! Eat as much as you want! There’s plenty more where that came from~”Mikey placed a stack of 5 pancakes in front of you, topped with strawberries and plenty of syrup.

Your eyes sparkled at the sight, and your stomach growled loudly in anticipation. You looked between Mikey and the stack of pancakes, not fully believing they were for you.

“Th- thank you for the food!” You said hesitantly before picking up a fork and cutting a bite of the pancakes for yourself. They were so fluffy and sweet, you hummed happily around the bite.

Mikey beamed as you quickly dove in for more.

While you were distracted, Splinter sent a look to Leo, a small conversation was held with their eyes. A pleased look from Master Splinter indicated that he didn’t mind the company, and his eyes narrowing slightly as a sign they would talk about this later in private.

You had eaten a third of the pancakes when you felt full to bursting. You were used to such small portion sizes at the lab, you felt embarrassed you couldn’t finish the delicious food. You stared at the mostly full plate, and willed your stomach to make more room.

“You don’t have to finish eating it all if you can’t.” Leo interjected, snapping you out of your staring contest with the plate.

“I… sorry. It’s been a long time since I’ve been given this much food. It- it was delicious. Thank you.” You said timidly.

“No worries dudette! Glad you liked it!” Mikey cleared the table and Raph got up to help with dishes.

“So tell me, how did you come to meet my sons?” Master Splinter asked curiously. He could assume as much as to why you were here. You had no place else to go.

Donnie choked on his coffee a bit. “Uhhhh-“

Leo interjected. “It’s Stockman. He’s back in the city.”

“Yeah! Dudette was totally in trouble! We swooped in and rescued them and-“ Mikey was cut off by Raph shoving him.

“Keep drying the dishes dumbass, let them speak.”

You hesitated to find the right words. “I… was being held against my will in a laboratory, by Dr Stockman. He was using me to test his experiments on.”

“What kind of experiments? Do you know?” Donnie questioned you. It seemed like you had the full attention of the table now and it made you nervous.

“Yes…. Kind of. I was living in Japan at the time- in Tokyo. I was hired as an assistant to Dr Stockman over a year ago to run errands for him and bring him food, since he didn’t know Japanese and the organization he worked for didn’t let him leave the lab. I had no idea he was working for the Foot yakuza. One day I stumbled upon what he was working on. He was experimenting on animals- mutating them into human hybrids with a strange substance he had. Dr Stockman caught me, and imprisoned me to keep it a secret. He had been wanting a new human to experiment on. I guess his previous experiments ended in failure… the Foot wanted him to make a weapon, one that could look human on the outside but have enhanced abilities on the inside. Something about my testing must’ve been working, because a few months ago we were moved here to New York.”

“So it worked?!” Donnie exclaimed, on the edge of his seat.

“I… I don’t know. He injected me with something. An altered version of the solution, and I didn’t take on animal characteristics. But I didn’t feel any different. He kept trying all these different tests on me to try and ‘activate’ it but nothing was working.”

“Then how did you escape?” Leo asked you suspiciously.

You paused a long moment, and looked down at your hands. You were thinking back to last night. Everything happened so fast… “I… I don’t know…. Bebop and Rocksteady were watching me. They were…. ‘Messing around’…. Hurting me….” Your hands started shaking. They tightened into fists in your lap. “When they left, they forgot to lock the door behind them. It was just dumb luck, but I took my chance and snuck out of the facility before they could come back.”

Raph snorted at that. “Yeah, ‘dumb luck’.” He mused. Donnie scrubbed a hand tiredly down his face and Leo shared a look with Mikey, to which he shrugged.

Master Splinter stood up from his chair and slowly walked around the table, and placed his hands gently on your shoulders, startling you out of your memories.

“You are very brave for what you did. We should be grateful for the luck that brought you here to us. If what you say is true, then it is possible you carry the same mutagen that transformed us many years ago.”

Your eyes widened at that. You didn’t yet understand what that meant.

“It issss possible that the mutagen was simply altered to lie in a dormant state until triggered by something- like a certain chemical compound or hormone. Would you be okay letting me run some tests on you?” Donnie asked casually. He was deep in thought.

A small shiver ran down your spine and you bristled. You didn’t know how to respond. The thought of being experimented on again made your blood run cold, but you didn’t know how to say no.

“I…. Um… I….-“

“Hey guys! I got your message!”

A woman in a yellow jacket suddenly walked in through the main entrance of the lair carrying a large duffle bag over her shoulder. She walked into the kitchen over towards Leo and plopped the bag down on the floor, looking you over and putting a hand on her hip.

“What did I miss?”

This was a tough chapter to write I’m gonna be honest 😅 I hope it turned out okay! April enters the scene!!

If you remember toward the end of Out of the Shadows, Karai ordered Stockman be taken to a facility in Tokyo Japan to be forced to work for the Foot, and not given any recognition for his accomplishments. I thought it would be a good plot tie in as to what he’s been doing the last few years.
