You're more amazing than :)
One of my favorite series is Etrian Odyssey. I love kinda everything about it, except for one crucial detail: All the crucial details. The game adamantly refuses to tell you the numbers behind your abilities, which is very important information to have because of the impacts it has on not just mid-combat strategy, but on long-term character building.
For example, one of my characters in EO5 is a Pugilist with attack skills that bind enemy body parts. I unlocked a skill for him that sets up a counterattack that attacks and binds an enemy body part. Question: Why would I ever use this unreliable counter skill instead of the regular binding skills? Answer: Because it has DOUBLE THE DAMAGE AND BIND CHANCE!! And the game just didn't tell me that! I had to use this awesome online tool made by fans in order to figure that out! How the fuck did the devs expect players to magically intuit exactly how the skills were balanced? Just TELL ME WHAT MY SKILLS DO!
#asks#if you're curious the skill is Cross Counter under Pugilist specialization Type A#by the in-game description it looks terrible compared to Concussion/Arm Crusher/Low Blow#because the game gives absolutely no indication of how powerful it is#another obnoxious hidden detail is that passive skills give a big boost at level 1 but then upgrades give way less#so it's really good to just grab 1 level in every passive skill#but going further than that is useless unless it's a really helpful skill#oh and if you were thinking “well of course the counter is stronger if you assume the skills are well-balanced”#good news: they aren't!#there's another skill called Clinch that attempts inflict all binds on both the user and a single enemy but does no damage#the bind infliction rate starts LOWER than the normal bind skills and takes until max level (10) to be significantly higher#and it also has a high chance of binding the user#can the class exploit getting bound? not really! it has a skill (Breather) that removes binds and charges up for next turn#but it's not worth it. you're better off just using actual attack skills instead of wasting a turn binding yourself#the fact that Clinch (potentially) binds all enemy parts is useless against most enemies because usually only 1 part matters#at max level Breather gives x2.5 damage but you could just attack 3 times to deal even more damage and still attempt 3 binds#which is often even better for binding because you can attempt the same bind 3 times to bind an important body part#anyway my point is that sometimes a skill is Just Bad and there's no way to tell unless you know the numbers#so TELL ME THE FUCKING NUMBERS!!!

i'm listening to the elizabeth vandiver great courses lectures (my comfort audios <3) and i'm currently on her series on the odyssey. i love whenever she points out assumptions a modern reader might unknowingly bring with them when engaging with ancient texts.
one of her examples is how challenging it is in modernity to fully grasp how impossible penelope's position is. she's a good, dutiful woman with a husband who is M.I.A, but has no way of knowing odysseus' status, or which duties she's obligated to pursue. if her husband is currently alive, she has an absolute duty to preserve his household and herself until he returns. if odysseus is dead, she has an equally absolute duty to swiftly remarry and dedicate herself to a new household. she doesn't live in a society where she can live alone as a widow (or potential widow), only as a wife of someone living.
and i'm thinking about how our perception of her situation is also shaped by how we know odysseus is alive and will return. there's also the fact that the suitors are rude and dangerous -- we certainly don't want her to end up with any of them. so the trickery with the weaving of the shroud comes across as ingenious and morally justified to us... but penelope can't be sure. if odysseus had been dead, the shroud trick would be doubly damning on a societal and moral level -- both for delaying her sacred obligation to form a new family, and for using her feminine skills and resources on her "previous" family (since the shroud was made for laertes).
penelope is trapped in moral limbo throughout most of the odyssey, where every action she takes (or doesn't take) is either absolutely correct and conscientious OR horrifically immoral and shameful, and the key piece that determines which is which is lost at sea somewhere.

I love it when women hate men. I love it when women are allowed to vent to each other about how horrible and creepy men are. I love it when women form friendships with and prioritize each other over relationships with men(whether they're attracted to them or not). I love it when women put men dni in their bios and on their nude photos and on posts on their blogs. I love it when women refuse to mollycoddle and accommodate entitled male feelings with "but this doesn't mean I hate all men, I know a few men who are great, I love my father/sons/brothers/uncles/male cousins/guy friends" I love it when women complain about men WITHOUT "not all men" being a disclaimer. I love it when women avoid socializing with/refuse to be around/befriend/get close to men because they know men can't be trusted. I love it when women make "kill all men" jokes. I love it when women offer absolutely no concern or care for men's feelings and if their misandry offends men whatsoever because why should we, men are the oppressor class who have raped and killed and abused us and kept us as subjugated as second-class citizens for millennia, they regularly mistreat us and the women in their own marginalized communities still every single day and make this world so much harder and more awful for us to be in, and if we choose to hate them and not spare them any sympathy then so be it, and I don't just mean "men as a class" either, you can be a woman who doesn't want to have anything to do with any man on an individual basis and completely cuts off men from her personal life too and ykw I will love and fucking support you in that because men deserve absolutely NOTHING from us. If they're so tough and strong then they can handle it just like they can handle being lonely. If you are a woman who hates men, ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE A LESBIAN AND/OR A TRANS WOMAN, then just know that I love you. I love you, I support you, and you are safe here.
#was going to make a post about how much i hate that women aren't allowed to hate their oppressors but i decided to spin it into something#positive instead#this is supposed to be the feminist site that makes reddit mgtow piss their baby diapers so let's go back to despising men and not coddling#their feelings and let's dye our hair blue while we're at it#i am so tired of this new wave of guilt-tripping and gaslighting women who hate men and don't trust or want to be around them#i hate how we're made into villainesses or the problematic ones for not valuing them in our lives or for wanting to guard ourselves or be#safe from our oppressors#and i'm tired of people who don't know the first thing about feminism being like 'BUT THAT'S TERF RHETORIC WHAT ABOUT X MINORITY MEN'#guess what women can also be x minority that you're trying to protect the men of and we get to hate men too#trans women are included when i say women btw and trans men are included when i say men#if anyone has the right to hate men more than anybody else it's trans women esp trans lesbians because they put up with so much shit#from men that even cis women do not and they especially know how vile men are behind closed doors#so#terfs fuck off#radfems fuck off#and if anybody tries to make this post more appeasing to men or 'not all men's this post you are getting blocked and hit with a hammer#feminism#misogyny#sexism#patriarchy#tw men#tw rape#tw abuse#misandry#terfs dni#radfems dni#feminists need to go back to being scary and unpalatable for men none of this 'but some of them are good!' bullshit#men are entitled to nothing from us#and if you try to prove me wrong then you are just proving my point if you have nothing good to say then simply keep scrolling#ok? ok.

"- 'proshippers' or whatever the fuck you people are calling yourselves now -"
It's. It's still just "proshippers". It's you guys (antis) and the fence-straddlers trying to have their cake and eat it too that keep creating random new phrases to "other" and distance themselves from us. We're here, unchanging, same as ever, in our corner with our silly little stories. We aren't the ones interested in coming up with 500 new labels for people who know that fiction isn't reality.

Every day I think about what terrible advice "Don't draw ugly people" is..... I shouldn't be surprised by tiktok/youtube """""art advice"""" but it is kinda genuinely baffling that anybody ever said that whole-heartedly and meant it

I think it genuinely cannot be overstated how important that kiss in season 2 of Good Omens was.
From a plot standpoint, that kiss showed Crowley's desperate attempts to keep Aziraphale, to reel him in and back to the Us that they had built upon.
But from just a show standpoint, they. fucking. kissed.
Obviously their love transcends physicality, and Neil has said that Good Omens is a love story even before season 2, but the outright confirmation of a widely popular queer ship ON SCREEN is just so... Unheard of.
Every fandom or show has their trademark gay couple that aren't-really-gay-but-also-kind-of-are-gay: Merlin and Arthur, Sherlock and John (very heavy offender), Dean and Castiel (okay this one was canon, but we all know what happened IMMEDIATELY afterwards), and I suppose at some point Ineffable Husbands had just been included in the same category as the rest of them.
And to have it be moved from mostly fandom and fan work fuelled to outright canon - like 'they fucking kissed on screen' canon - is just so fucking fantastic.
It's not vague, it's not lines that are blurred for the sake of being on the fence of appealing to two audiences at once, and it's not only canon because the creator just said it's canon without rhyme or reason purely for the sake of appealing to a queer audience (looking at you, Ms J. K. Rowling) - it's undeniable, blatant evidence that Crowley and Aziraphale are in love.
And yes, at the moment it's devastating, but it's also devastatingly real. And that's so important.
Especially with the release of Our Flag Means Death, I really do hope we are entering a new era in mainstream media where queer ships finally aren't treated as some sort of mysterious prize that the writers dangle in front of you like a carrot on a stick, and are just simply treated like any other ship out there.
Because if so, then queer kids will be growing up to these shows, see this new era of unabashedly queer media, and won't have to hide away their ships like some dirty little secret. They won't have to wonder if their representation is even representation. They won't have to get excited over being able to see the small chance of themselves represented in a character only to be let down so incredibly badly, because queerness is good only when it's marketable.
So sure, ending season 2 like that is fucking crazy, but you know what's crazier? Whatever the fuck Neil just did with that kiss.

hate to be cynical on main but it really do be like this every single time a new "not like social media" art platform comes out of the woodwork and then people migrate to it in droves just to find out the only other people using it are other artists that they're competing with for any scrape of viewership from an increasingly oversaturated internet that didn't exist when we were teenagers in 2009

Hey you! Do you take a grim, mean sort of delight in right-wing extremists mauling each other?
Then it may please you to know that all 9 members of the European parliament belonging to german right-wing extremist party AfD (under official investigation by the intelligence agency that deals with threats to the constitution. btw.)
on Thursday were excluded from the right-wing extremist fraction* Identity and Democracy. For being too far on the right. This fraction is chaired by Marco Zanni of Italy's Lega, and made to collect everyone for whom conservatives are too lefty. Basically the Nazi fraction of the EU parliament.
Why? Well, Maximilian Krah, top candidate for the AfD, after already having had a huge scandal recently (one of his employees was arrested on suspicions of espionage for the Chinese government), thought it was a smart idea to publicly state that "Not every member of the Waffen-SS was a criminal."
Which lead first his French, then his Czech, then his Italian colleagues to respond with a sound "Hey, what the actual fuck, bro". The AfD tried to do last-minute damage control by offering for him to go voluntarily (from the faction not for him to like. step down lmao). But to no avail. It's telling, but not surprising, that this was the least straw after the many, many scandals the party had over the last few months.
Now note that none of the people in there are like. Decent. They are all xenophobic, nationalist, far right dickheads.
Imagine being kicked out by that lot for being too much of a Neonazi.
*Members of the EU parliament come there as delegates from their own national parties; in the parliament these parties from alliances, called fractions or political groups, based on programmatic and ideological overlap. There's currently seven of them, Identity and Democracy is the furthest on the right.
