i can't believe let sleeping dogs lie is finished. going to get a little sappy about it because it means so much to me and im so proud and in awe at myself for writing this!

it wasnt meant to be such a big thing but as time went on it felt like there were scenes i had to include to tell rue's story, to put her life into words, to give her meaning. everything she does is to find a life for herself and she gets it, eventually

she means so much to me as a character and ive never fixated on one of my ocs as much as i have her. part of me is her ykno? like ive poured pieces of myself into her and explored themes and ideas through her and in a way its been a really eye opening experience for myself

and to finally have her silly little story down? it feels wild. im emotional.

i wrote this for me, to indulge in a ship that has so much potential and it still amazes me that people tuned in to read about her, to root for her and to feel alongside her. i didnt really expect anyone to read it because again, i wrote this for fun, for me and i wanted to share it because i wanted to put my writing out there more

and if youve ever read that fic (or any of my work tbh) just know that i am so very grateful<3 all the kind comments and asks about rue and gortash and their life together makes my day and im so glad to be able to yell out into the void about them and have the void reply back!!

anyway now i can write all my silly fucked up fic ideas for them and go crazy knowing they can fit anywhere in the main timeline. maybe i'll write some nice rue/gale pieces. if people were interested in their life. we'll see

One thing that I keep thinking about in regards to Tactics Ogre is the presence of the vaguely humanoid reptilian guys. Like the game has straight-up dragons of varying types, but then you've also got these guys that are just. guys but reptiles. And at first I was going "okay maybe they're just supposed to be mindless monsters like the undead?" but at some point in the game Canopus gets into a fistfight with one of them when he (Canopus) interrupts some singing. So this reptile guy has clearly got the emotional wherewithal to both listen to someone sing and also to get mad when someone interrupts!

The PSP version apparently has a description for the reptiles that mentions they're a "crude race with limited intellect." But are they REALLY limited in intellect or is it just racial prejudice?? You also see them being included in various mercenary bands throughout the game, and they seem to wear human clothing and armor, which implies that at least some of them have some idea of trade and currency, and most of them have the understanding of how to dress for their own protection. For all intents and purposes there is nothing that really stands out as evidence that they're less intelligent than standard humans

So I present:

Sandbox AU ✨

- some details are a work in progress

- either timekeeper or the curator the narrator figured it out (no idea lol literally only used to write about Narry and Stanley)

- Featuring Snake adventure line because I said so.

- Stanley can go ANYWHERE like FOR REAL. He can leave if he wants! He can leave and come back! He could leave forever if he wanted to (he doesn’t really know if he wants to leave forever)

- At first Stanley just stays in the office. He doesn’t really get that he can leave

- When he does figure out he can leave he doesn’t go very far for very long. It’s daunting after being stuck in the office for such a long time

- The narrator can’t really leave

- At least not until he figures out a physical form!

- The overwhelmingness of the outside world is too real for both Stan and Narry

- Resets are still a thing but it’s up to either the Narrator or Stanley (and/or whoever codes sandbox)

- Players are still a thing but they’re more like ghosts who can interact with their surroundings; They’re no longer in control of the fate of Stan, Narry, etc

- Maybe that’s a minor conflict? Just the players being annoying? LOL

- Import/Build features? Art creator of some kind?

- Stannarrator as a treat for me and fellow shippers; Me manifesting the domestic love life through fanfiction be like-

- Probably ooc writing with base character traits because I’m having fun and ooc? Normally how I roll lol
