Just finished watching the FNAF movie (hooray for early UK release!) and I unironically loved it. Some things I want to mention…

Honestly me just losing my fucking shit whenever there was a reference to the lore/games?!?! Like I was SO excited it was unreal

THE TOREADOR MARCH?!? FOXY SINGING?!? BALLOON BOY?!?! VANESSA?!? THE FREDDY LAUGH?!? THE “IT’S ME” WRITTEN ON THE MIRROR?!?

Not gory at all tbh like there’s a couple of scenes involving blood but most of the kills cut away before showing anything (there WAS a scene where Freddy chomped someone’s torso in half but you only see her bottom half afterwards, like the bite happens in the shadows)

There were, in fact, five nights at Freddy’s (and one day) (yes I counted lol) and absolutely nothing of particular scariness happened on Nights 1 or 2, Night 3 was cute, Night 4 started off cute but got sad and then Night 5 was kind of terrifying, kind of funny, kind of fucking awesome and filled with lore

They definitely missed a trick by not mentioning the Bite of ‘87 (or ‘83? Idk) or Golden Freddy but I know there MIGHT be a sequel so… 👀

I spent the whole of the movie trying to figure out who the fifth child/animatronic was 💀 like obviously Freddy, Chica, Bonnie and Foxy… was the fifth one the fucking cupcake?!?!

The cupcake was kinda goofy but I loved it all the same

The animatronics went from villains to not villains to villains to not villains again like what a journey

“I always come back” - cue the 20 people at the 10:50am showing I was in absolutely losing their fucking shit

In the sequel (if there’s a sequel) I DEMAND more Matthew Lillard as William Afton/Springtrap like yeah he’s dead but FLASHBACKS!!!! Prequels?!? So much potential there. What I’m trying to say is that we deserved more of him, he was amazing but only there at the beginning and the very end, that’s my top complaint tbh

I will say this, it definitely felt VERY campy at times, like there were moments involving murderous animatronics where we were all giggling in the cinema

Is it the best movie ever made? No, but it was enjoyable for me so I call it a win

because like okay a fool would say well skibidi is a world where toilets with human heads are fighting humans with object heads, so we'll get matt daemon and composite him into a toilet bowl, and get some creature artists to put together some impressive vfx in houdini for the boss camera and the boss tv and add a romance plot and rain streaks wetly down a cracked camera lens in the ruins of a city as somber soundtrack music plays as our narrator contemplates what it means to fight. itd suck.

but like... ok here's the press release where Invisible Narratives announces they've partnered with someone to make skibidi toys. which makes it clear that this interview isn't just some people chatting, IN is rightsholders or at least licensees of the skibidi brand. they talk about upgrading and this is press release talk so its probably lies, but:

[BAY:] "I've been following Boom since his early days, when he was uploading fan-made Transformers pre-viz videos..." [GOODMAN]: "[Bay + a producer] have been working very closely with Alexey to really professionalize the kind of back engine of this..."

like at the very least this is a Bay who knows the right thing to say! At the same time like, how do you professionalize the engine...?

yknow. maybe im wrong but i feel like a huge appeal and a huge trademark of skibidi is the way sfm feels. the particular way sfm bends a mouth inside out. which. okay so morphTargets/blendShapes are definitely a thing in the industry still,

(blendshapes conceptually: instead of making bones for all the parts of a face just model a neutral face, then a smile, then a frown, then other expressions or motions. for each expression, save how far each point moved from its rest position. then if you want 0.5smile, move each point on the face halfway between neutral and smile. and--iconic to the sfm look--if you want 4.0 smile and 2.0 frown, just move every point 4x as far as a full smile, and then from there 2x as far as a full frown)

but idk. in a real sense i feel like the weirdness of sfm expressions is how low poly they are. There's only so badly a face can go wrong in like, 500 quads. which keeps the distortions recognizable and horrifying. (or maybe it's just a function of the SFM weirdness has had time to establish itself aesthetically like the record scratch.)

but like the point is... a lot of the tech development in the past few years has gone to finding ways to not have to do blendshapes for facial animation! Maybe we can do skin and muscle simulation so faces deform realistically. Maybe we can make one good ultra-configurable face topology+rig, and then use it everywhere (this is Epic's metahuman approach). Maybe we can just get really good at mocap. Or maybe neural/latent space methods for "smart" realistic-looking blending

and so like.. idk i imagine going to studios as michael-bay-who-intuits-the-aesthetic-value-of-sfm and going i want you to figure out how to update the SFM aesthetic.

like it's a problem id love to work on right. give me mocap and tell me to make every animation 10% more jerky and overanimated. give me 'alright we want high res facial meshes but we want them to be distorted by low-LOD proxies' or something.

and then like. stylistically the rough-assemblage-of-objects is so important. like i almost feel like you need to say okay i want artist 1 to model a speaker and artist 2 to model a rack for a speaker and DO NOT COMMUNICATE WITH ONE ANOTHER or something.

(this is all discounting the ultimate solution to this which is multi-million-dollar budget feature film animated entirely in machinama + sfm)

A friend recently asked, "what's the reason why you're in that fandom you're in right now?" And I couldn't help but dip my toes into answering this question because the reason why I'm in the tf2 fandom is a bit amusing to me.

Okay, July 28 of this year I was scrolling through Twitter, and then I happen to come across a comic page about two characters I had no idea about. This comic is titled HeavyMedic comic | Milk strawberry popsicles by Cabbage on Twitter. Now, keep in mind I had no clue who tf these characters were, I just saw that first page of the comic and I knew I had to stay and read this entire thing (even though I have no clue who tf they were). The hot weather, the bald character carrying a popsicle to give to a black haired character with glasses who the bald man called "Doktor", even though I wasn't in the tf2 fandom nor did I know who these characters were, I just knew one thing and it's that these guys are absolutely gay for each other.

Now at this time, I was pretty hooked. Multiple questions were coming into mind: who were these guys? Are these the creators original characters? Or are they from a video game? A movie maybe? I couldn't help myself, so I commented.

And ever since then, I was hooked! Since then, I've researched about this ship and eventually about the game itself. I've watched the official videos and read the comics, read fanfics, saved fan-art, etc.

I asked an online friend of mine (they were in many fandoms and I remembered them sending a picture of a group picture of a game that had those two guys.) if they knew which social media platform the tf2 fandom is very active on because I kinda wanna get involved in the community itself to talk and to engage in the fandom itself, and they said "oh, you should go to Tumblr since I've got mutuals that are active on there and they mainly post tf2 content." So, I downloaded Tumblr, made my account and since then, my feed is nothing but tf2 content (sometimes food and some other digital art stuff but tf2 definitely is my feed).

And after we shared the reasons why we're in the fandom we currently are in right now, they asked (the same friend who asked the first question) "and why did you chose to stay? Do you have favorite content creators in that fandom and why are they your favorite?"

First I'll answer, why I chose to stay. To keep it short and simple, it's because this fandom made me feel welcome and accepted. I love how nice the creators of artworks are, the writers, and the other people, who like me, also views fan-art in Tumblr. I love how there isn't really issues in the community (at least that I'm not aware of) and how respectful and funny people are. Obviously, we can't avoid that there is also a bad side to this fandom, and I was unfortunate enough to experience this type of treatment. I don't really want to go into detail but I guess *some* YouTubers are very homophobic which is so sad considering that most of them are genuinely fucking funny and their tf2 content absolutely bangs but as a non-binary pansexual myself, I can't let stuff like that slide. And thankfully, it is just some YouTubers, plus the content creators I watch in the tf2 fandom usually do SFMs instead of like having voice over shit and complain about the fandom enforcing LGBTQIA+ onto the characters. So yeah, I stayed because I'm in the good side of the community where people aren't fucking mean for no reason and respects and welcomes anyone despite whatever they are.

Also, the second question is a bit tricky because I LOVE ALL OF THE ARTISTS IN THE FANDOM each and every one of them are very much talented, amazing, beautiful, god-sent and wonderful. So, these are the artist that I mean:

Yeah, I love all of them, also I know what you'll say "but some of them don't do art, they just reblog!" So? I still consider them as artist bcuz they share ART. Okay, my absolutely favorite like my number one is Ncalabby. Most of my favorite fan-arts come from them. They are my favorite,well, because they are the reason that I'm in this fandom in the first place but other than that, I love their art. I love how they do their line art, the background and how each color on every art of theirs contrast with each other beautifully and makes the subject of their art shine because of the color scheme. And I love how they draw Medic, strong and massive unlike those fucking twink ahh Medic that people seem to make him as he is. It's *fine* if that's how your style is but making Medic small and skinny because he's a support and heals people isn't right. But that's just my opinion though.

Now, SFM creators, there are some that I absolutely love because well, they contribute heavily into the fandom. I'll be ranking them into 3rd to 1st.

3. DasMxD - I love their series' if tf2 was realistic, their SFMs are very smooth and natural.

2. Winglet - this guy, has the *smoothest* SFMs animations ever. I love how the mercenaries move in a way that's very much smooth and very natural, and I love their videos so much.

1. the-sound-of-progress -> I love Dusty, despsite their works being comics I don't think that SFM is made for comics yet somehow their SFMs are very pretty and natural, I love that the fact that they info dump on their blog because I am very interested in making my own SFMs in the upcoming future but I still don't have my own PC but their info dump about Blenders, SFMs, how to fix if the Medic model has that black thingy on his gloves, etc. Their works are wonderful, and them as a person as well ks just as fantastic as their work is. I did message them, told them how much I loved their work and they replied, and we're very humble with themselves which I love so much. Like I always wait for them to upload their comics because I find them so entraining and godsent stuff. Also, Dusty contributes heavily on the red Oktoberfest content, if you don't believe me, check out their page.

So yeah, this was what I answered to my friend and because I have nothing else to do, I will just share it here on my blog. Anyway, you, what's your reason why you're in the tf2 fandom? I'd like to know!

God, I love Samuel Roukin sfm. Man's a fuckin giant, sweet as fuck, big hairy chest, not a sexist shit (he was in an all female led, written, etc movie! He was proud and excited about it!) and his voice is naturally deep and womb shaking. Baaaark bark bark.

ok actually I want to do my own thoughts on why tf2 is Like That.

obviously the easiest gimme is how easy the characters are to recognize. I think the psychology or whatever behind their easily recognizable silhouettes and simple yet effective specific design traits have been talked about into the ground but it’s very true. Put a hat on a guy and give him dog tags. The Sout.

but the other thing is just how fucking Many of them there are. 9 main characters in game with their unique voicelines and tinges of backstory in the comics and meet the merc vids, that’s enough to get a guy to start pounding on the ground like an ape if you’re a Character Enjoyer. And then you have the less prevalent guys who are still like. More recognized in the tf2 lore even if they rarely (if at all) make appearances In game. Saxton, Admin, Pauling, etc. and then you go really fucking deep and all the certified “guy with 2 seconds of screen time” fans can dig up all those freaks in the corners of the comics and shit. You know.

And then it’s just like. Tf2 has nothing lore. Not as in it doesn’t have any lore, it just. It’s nothing. There’s no consistent theme aside from the fact that it’s absolute nonsense. The official comic series has a story, and I love them, but it’s all built on plot contrivances and killing characters like 3 different times and they all come back normal and fine. Something something Shakespearicles is the strongest writer to have ever lived. “Tf2 takes place in the 1960s” yes and it does make for a good basis for aesthetics and stuff. But also no it doesn’t. Don’t lie to me. The 1960s of tf2 is but a phantom of the 1960s we know. Sex Bomb was released in 1999. but that means you can literally do whatever. Respect the timeline as much as tf2 writers do, which is to say literally not at all. Do whatever the fuck you want and tint it with a vintage color palette. It’s awesome.

It’s just kind of prime “put a guy in a situation” media isn’t it. These guys were kind of built to be put in a wacky situation. Faces built for tv . Sits in the corner and sighs . Anyways. The absolute nonsense that is the canon lore mixed with the slivers of actually caring about these characters keeps you around. Most people like to care about characters, to be invested in their emotions or whatever, so when media is just downright mean spirited about its characters it makes it a little embarrassing to bother to care. But sometimes tf2 will drop something like Scout’s Death Scene and Spy’s Confession or “Btw demo has like the most fucked up backstory ever what is wrong with him” or give Engineer ties to the administrator and also the canonical tfc engineer and also the backstory of why tf2 is tf2 as a whole, or The War Update. And it makes you go ough. Ohoho. Ok. These characters can be ridiculous and it’s good but also there’s enough depth that you can also bite into them like a ripe pear and it rules.

funny hat game. Never let anyone tell you you can’t dress up the mercenaries. “He would not fucking wear that-“ have you SEEN this guys cosmetics? Shut up. A dress is like the least of your concerns. You like to dress up a funny guy don’t you? Yeah you do. Go dress up a funny guy.

And then just like. Sort of as a result of the baseline that the source set up and also the community that the fan base fosters, people Love to put those guys in situations. That one post that’s like. The tf2 mercs are Greek gods to them or whatever. They exist in so many forms. People went fucking nuts over Emesis Blue dude, a horror movie (and it is a movie, let’s be real here) featuring Catholic Guilt Medic Tf2. And that was recent. I haven’t even been around long enough to say anything about the prevalence of sfm animation in the fanbase. Put that guy in a situation to the Extreme. Reinvent that guys narrative. (Mindset with varying success but you know.) I don’t know a thing about any freak fortress character but those guys are like their own self sustaining ecosystem.

And then there’s just a lot to say about how customization of characters leads to a lot of potential for oc creation and the world is big enough to also support that, and even if it’s not, Literally who cares. They have a wizard in that game. Nothing is off the table anymore. Do whatever you want. I don’t care.

THE MERMAID!!!!!!! this movie is hilarious and emotional and I both laugh and cry every time and I one hundred percent rec it in all of its absurdity- tldr a stephen chow comedy where a young mermaid is sent to seduce and assassinate a dumbass rich dude whose environmental project is destroying their home. I’ll never forget seeing it in theaters with my friends and turning to them during the credits and they looked SO PERPLEXED LIKE WTF WAS THAT and I was just giddy with all of the emotions ever

the lure! how many polish horror musicals set in 80s night clubs have YOU watched this year and how many of them were about mermaid sisters? silver is basically the little mermaid retold, and golden is here to eat men and fuck milfs. this is kind of super unsettling a lot of the time and sometimes DEEPLY UNCOMFORTABLE TO WATCH but I love it sfm

kay for the last one......... I’m gonna say mad about men! this is a sequel to miranda and I love both A LOT but ngl mad about men is in color and has identical cousins and more mermaid shenanigans so like it’s an automatic win here. glynis johns is my forever girl and shes so fucking funny, and all the mermaid jokes just kill me

ever since TFA, when I decided that the fictional character of Rey was going to be the love of my life, I actually haven’t really cared what her last name is, and I do think the whole palpatine thing was incredibly hamfisted, I do like that she decided to go with skywalker because of the influence leia and luke had so that works for me, and bc with tlj, they kind of set up that she probably wasn’t biologically a skywalker (I’m sure absolutely no one at all will hold strong opinions of this)

Once again, I hate Lawrence. He is no good. He’s so fucking creepy and gross. I do not understand why people like him? And I don’t mean, “I don’t know why people like this character.” I mean, “I don’t understand why people like this person.” As a character, sure, he’s interesting and revolting and does his role well. He’s even got some funny lines and Whitford has great delivery. I mean these people who LIKE HIM. As a person. They think he’s great and a good guy. I don’t get it. Are we watching the same show? He’s a great character and a terrible person. That said, he’s still a dude and I’m not about to say he’s such a great character that I want to know all about him. Nah, bros. I wanna know all about Emily, Moira, Serena, Janine, Alma... and June I suppose but we already have quite enough of her. I don’t care about Lawrence’s backstory or emotional turmoil. I don’t need his perspective cos I’ve seen it before, I know it already. It’s in so many movies, books, and TV. So, he may be a well-written character but he’s not a fascinating one. If we wanna dig around in the psyches of bad people, Serena and Lydia are far more fascinating cos bad women’s stories are so much rarer to explore in any depth.

So, June got her feet lashed to shit again. And then she’s just walking around like no biggie next scene? Did the writers forget the first season when June couldn’t walk at all? All I’m asking is a bit of a limp?

June going straight to the house that just housed the handmaid that ran away with June’s baby seems... well, like complete bullshit. Never.

SERENA ISN’T WEARING HER WEDDING BAND. She’s done. She hates that man and I hate the fact everyone is pushing her to just get over it. Fred... is horrible in literally every single way. Every. Single. Way. (And sure Serena is horrible in some ways, but not nearly the same ways as Fred.) I just want Serena to be free of him. I want her and June to murder his ass. Graphically. That is the only violence I want to see on this show in the future. OMG, I can’t actually explain how much I hate him and I vomit in my mouth thinking about Serena having to get back with him. Even if I know she has to in order to survive. Ugh. 

UM. Okay, the “blood against the snow” bit was really interesting. I don’t recall Offred saying that in the book but Atwood brings it up often when talking about red. It was clever to include her own words, just like last season with the “men are afraid women will laugh at them...” bit.

But speaking of weird inclusions: Lawrence reciting book!Offred’s line about how easy is it to invent a humanity for anyone. It was curious they had Lawrence saying that to June, whereas it’s Offred in the book thinking that about the Commander.  “He was not a monster, to her. Probably he had some endearing trait: he whistled, offkey, in the shower, he had a yen for truffles, he called his dog Liebchen and made it sit up for little pieces of raw steak. How easy it is to invent a humanity, for anyone at all. What an available temptation.”

My wife, when Nick showed up in 303: “Oh, this prick again!” Just out of nowhere cos we don’t talk about fandom shit. She has no idea the extent of my sick obsession with this show. She doesn’t know how much I loathe Nick lol. She’s completely casual and even she can’t stand Nick. Which is so lovely. And then when he was yapping about going to the front, she just muttered, “Hopefully he’ll die there.”

OH MY GOD. I HATE MEN. That whole Commanders meeting scene made me want to throw up multiple times. It started with the words “shipment of females” and just got progressively worse with every passing second.

Except... LMAO. June: *sees Fred at a meeting* Fred: Hello. June: Hey you see Serena? How’s Serena? Is Serena okay? Serena’s tough. She’s great. She’ll be okay. I love her. *proceeds to do the world’s worst cringe-inducing seduction* I think on some level even Fred knows it’s bullshit.

I love comparing June’s seduction of Fred to her seduction of Serena. They’re very interesting contrasts. She’s so painfully fake with Fred. And only sort of insincere at times with Serena. 

Man, Sylvia is a dick lol. LOOK RICHMOND IS HARD ENOUGH TO GET ACROSS WITHOUT YOUR LIME GREEN CAR BLOCKING THE ONE MOVING LANE OF TRAFFIC!!!!!! Jokes aside... I actually really liked that scene of Emily finally calling her. That was touching and the closest I came to actually getting sniffly.  Actually no. Traffic on Richmond is no joke. I’m not kidding. That was a dick move, Sylvia. LOL.

June saying Nichole gets her politicianess thing from Serena absolutely fucking slayed me. I don’t even care if she was emotionally manipulating her af, it seemed genuine in parts of that convo. TWO MOMMIES. June used her flashback!June voice at one point. Honestly, these two actresses run this town.  You can tell how broken Serena is tho cos she’s oblivious to how manipulative June is being. She’s been aware in the past as soon as June does her whole “Say nice thing, bond over babies, ask for something” method and called her on it. It’s June’s only trick. It’s transparent af. And Serena knows it. Yet, she seems completely wooed now and not at all suspicious. So, when she gets her wits together again, I suspect Serena won’t be so malleable.

I’ve said a bunch of stuff about June/Serena stuff in my tag rants so I won’t repeat it. I just fell in love with it all.

PRAISE BE!!! We didn’t actually have to see a Nick/June sex scene. Behold His miracle! I was so relieved. And then... curiously they continued that love-theme-y music all the way over into Serena’s scene with June and that was not a coincidence.

I know people really like that Boomtown Rats song being the music to the fire... And it’s a jam. But... it’s about a real school shooting and I feel like that’s just a little... off? (Not to mention Tori Amos’ version is better, imo.) I mean, okay, I did some drama courses in university and I did a thing about that song so I researched it all and it just to me doesn’t fit at all. A 16-year-old girl shot up an elementary school. And somehow, call me crazy, but that’s completely inappropriate to use in this scene. I get female rage, etc etc. I get they didn’t want to go super obvious and use a song about burning houses. But considering how EXCELLENT a song they chose for 3x03 with that Roy Harper track you’d think they’d find something better for the bed/house burning. Not only that but the motive for Spencer was ... literally nothing. She didn’t like Mondays and thought it would be fun to kill a bunch of kids--which is the complete opposite of Serena’s motivations. It just devalues it.

I want more of Emily’s journey. This is the first time I’ve actually been interested in Emily tbh. And Clea Duvall is a treasure.

I want a Moira/Emily BROTP. Honestly Moira just seems like the best friend anybody could have?

WHY IS NICK A COMMANDER?! WTF????? Was I just not listening carefully enough? Is he? Cos I don’t really pay attention when he’s onscreen tbh and the wifey was like “Why’s this guy a commander now?” And I was like, “What do you mean he’s a commander?” Honestly, Nick is just like a piece of furniture. I barely notice him onscreen lol. Okay, this has nothing to do with my dislike of him. It honestly does not make any sense. We saw that other Commander only got promoted because his wife got pregnant. WHY THE FUCK WOULD THEY PROMOTE NICK? What on god’s green earth has he EVER fucking done well? Why the shitting hell would they promote a Guardian who, under his watch, has had one handmaid kill herself, another one escape/”get kidnapped”, wife cheat on him then get executed, allow a BABY to get kidnapped, the house get burned down????? All those things seem like Very Bad things and put all together seem like something that would put him on the Wall for being such a shitty employee rather than someone who deserves MORE responsibility. There’s literally no reason to make him a Commander. Just conscript him to the Chicago front. You don’t need a reason. He’s a grunt. Eye or not. I DO NOT GET IT. Fred gets demoted and Nick gets promoted? Nahhhhh mans. Not buying it.

So little Nick. I love it. I want zero Nick, but this’ll do. I’ll even put up with him being a Commander (LMAO) if it means he goes away for a while.

OK BACK TO THE BURNING WATERFORD HOUSE... i cannot abide how SLOW June is ALL. THE. FUCKING. TIME. Like, she shows up in Serena’s little pyromaniacal bedroom inferno and is like “COME ON!” and pulls her out of the room in what appears to be a hurry. Then as Serena and Rita are rushing out June just fucking stops and starts staring at all the smoke as if she’s on fucking shrooms. Then there she goes on her bullshit... Hey, bish, the house is literally burning down cos your crazy ass soulmate set fire to her own life and maybe you should leave. No? Not interested? Sure, stand there. Feel up the walls like I did once on MDMA. Makes total fucking sense. TAKE YOUR TIME WHY DON’T YOU? Why not? It just reminded me of 2x13 when Rita was saying “You gotta leave NOW!” and June just took it upon herself to carve a bunch of shit onto the wall for no goddamn reason.

OKAY. I WAS RIGHT. The other night when I was like, “I think I know that beach.” I do know that beach!!! My dog likes to take dumps right where Serena was. (I clean up after him, don’t worry.) I can point out that beach on a map if you want. There are also heroin needles and ticks in the bushes. There is literally a water treatment plant 200m away. I go swimming exactly where Serena was and once a dead fish floated by and I had to wrestle my dog away from it. I have been swimming there a lot. It’s nice in the summer. HOWEVER, poor Yvonne in her drysuit doing that in fucking November or whatever. This lake is fucking cold even in summer sometimes lmao. Like, I’ve spent so many hours right in that spot... cos well, I used to live right up the road so duh. Of course now that I don’t live there now and it was winter so why would I take my dog swimming, that they decide to film there. OF COURSE.

Speaking of filming, not that anyone cares, they were at the St Lawrence Market at one point. It was so obvious. Wasn’t really paying attention to any of the other locales tbh. If I watch again and pay attention I prolly could pick out a few more but honestly the only person that entertains is myself.

I still can’t believe Serena was being reborn on dogshit/dead fish beach.
