1. What was the first fandom you got involved in?

I’ve been a fan for as long as I can recall, but the first time I got in with fans as a community was in junior high, when I joined a cadre of Star Trek nerds. I remember building a scale model of the Enterprise-D out of LEGO in my buddy’s basement for almost an entire summer. That was a good summer.

4. Do you regret getting involved in any fandoms?

No. I’ve met great people and gotten to do amazing things in every fandom I’ve ever been in.

21. What was the first fanfic you ever wrote?

I started writing Star Trek fanfic with the aforementioned nerds when I was about 15, and carried on all through high school. I can’t remember what exactly was the first story I wrote, but I had an embarrassingly large crush on Marina Sirtis, but was also way too shy/inexperienced to write anything above PG-13, so about half of my stories were just “Description of how beautiful Deanna Troi is while she gets out of bed sexily for ten pages and then drinks a hot chocolate.” As you can imagine, my work was very popular among my all-male, all-straight circle of friends. I wrote it in a Lisa Frank binder which my friends would then circulate in the halls between classes.

(Side note: I got to meet Marina in person a few years ago at a con, and I still have a crush on her.)

30. What inspires you to write?

Pretty much anything, really: strangers in the street, conversations I overhear at work, soulful talks with friends, things I read, things I watch, places I’ve travelled to, the weather outside, art, songs, dreams. Good bourbon.

Also, have you seen Hayley Atwell as Agent Carter? Every time I look at her, I want to describe her like she’s a beautiful painting I’ve just seen for the first time. Tune in for my next story, which will be about Peggy getting out of bed for ten pages and then drinking a hot chocolate.

I'm not a big fan of Matt, so it really surprised me how much I enjoyed their relationship. Mostly, I guess, because it has all the tropes I love: the girl being evil/morally grey and the guy being good, and not only trying to save her, but also being forced to understand and embrace his own darkness and parts of himself. Because she is the only one who sees who he really is and all that he is. I just love, love, love that. But also, they had tons of chemistry on the series, and their scenes worked and allowed us to see more of Matt's personality and reasons - without being an ass to everyone, lol.

oh wow what a question I HAVE SO MANY THINGS SLAMMING INTO MY BRAIN and ngl they are for the most part mixed bags lol, but that is kind of the mermaid stan life lbr

THE MERMAID!!!!!!! this movie is hilarious and emotional and I both laugh and cry every time and I one hundred percent rec it in all of its absurdity- tldr a stephen chow comedy where a young mermaid is sent to seduce and assassinate a dumbass rich dude whose environmental project is destroying their home. I’ll never forget seeing it in theaters with my friends and turning to them during the credits and they looked SO PERPLEXED LIKE WTF WAS THAT and I was just giddy with all of the emotions ever

the lure! how many polish horror musicals set in 80s night clubs have YOU watched this year and how many of them were about mermaid sisters? silver is basically the little mermaid retold, and golden is here to eat men and fuck milfs. this is kind of super unsettling a lot of the time and sometimes DEEPLY UNCOMFORTABLE TO WATCH but I love it sfm

SPLASH! this movie is my childhood. I watched it on a loooop eternally. I wanted to BE madison. and yeah now its dated and problematique ofc but I still love it and it still holds up for me ngl. I love romance i LOOOOOVE her whole mermaid look and all the underwater scenes, I love the ending!!!!!!!!! I don’t acknowledge and have never seen the made for tv sequel with a different cast. lets just not

SIREN WITH MAJOR CAVEATS CALLED I HAVE NOT WATCHED SEASON 3 AND I HAVE HEARD REALLY BAD THINGS ABOUT IT. but this show was my everything for 2 years. I love romance and polyamory and scary violent mermaids and this creepy lil coastal fishing town where some part mermaid descendants live and the evil ass government is meddling. god this show! ROLLING IN THE DEEP NGL I’m in deep mourning over what I’ve heard about s3 (like i’ll probably watch it at some point but knowing a lot of the choices they made make me so....... *fart noise*)

kay for the last one......... I’m gonna say mad about men! this is a sequel to miranda and I love both A LOT but ngl mad about men is in color and has identical cousins and more mermaid shenanigans so like it’s an automatic win here. glynis johns is my forever girl and shes so fucking funny, and all the mermaid jokes just kill me

keeping my honorary mentions short, kind of can’t believe I didn’t fit either major kdrama in here but just know that surplus princess and/or the legend of the blue sea are both worth watching even if my preference is surplus princess EVEN THO IT ENDED BADLY BC IT WAS CANCELED RIP ME. also mermaids of tiburon (NOT! AQUASEX! GET IT RIGHT MERMAID BLOGGERS DO YOUR GODDAMN HOMEWORK!) is p dull but very gorgeous underwater cinematography like skip the whole scientist intro and go straight into the ocean and its gooooorgeous. 2. Talk about three of the most important ships throughout your life.

Oh man well obviously Loki/Sif - it’s the ship the pushed me into trying my hand at writing fanfic, connected me to many wonderful people that I consider true friends, and it’s just a positive little corner of fandom!

Han/Leia - they are the blueprint to all my shipping preferences. I love slightly grumpy/snarky men who are secretly big softies for the completely competent and badass woman who is not afraid to call them on their bullshit.

Twilight/mockery - lol um teen Ann shipped Bella/Edward pretty hard for a couple months after reading Twilight but then I pretty quickly jumped on the “this is silly” bandwagon and joined ontd_twatlight on LJ. The friends from that community were some of my first internet friends and many are still a part of my life today! 

Honorable mention to HP being my first fandom and to my Grishaverse ships because I have very strong feelings and I can’t wait to go absolutely feral when the Netflix show comes out this yearrrrrr

15. Have you ever “shipped at first sight”?

Definitely, I think there’s lots of ships that have immediate chemistry from the first glance and first interaction. Mako/Raleigh comes to mind when she pulls that umbrella back and he just has those love sick eyes, i was like OH NO I’M IN. Also Eve/Villanelle, just immediate unhinged shipping because that level of infatuation is off the chain.

18. Talk about a moment which made you question an entire ship.

I feel like this happens more in TV shows than in movies, but I hate when there is unnecessary and seemingly endless drama. Back when Lost was airing I like Kate/Sawyer a whole lot and Kate/Jack too, but the constant going back and forth and love triangle drama was so annoying that by the end I wanted both Kate and Jack dead and pivoted hard into Sawyer/Juliet lol

31. Talk about one of your favorite headcanons for a ship you love.

Obviously I love the headcanon that Sif either steals Loki’s knives from his bedroom and/or that he likes to gift her blades because that’s hot. 

I’m eternally into the idea that Loki loves nothing more than to go down of Sif and I lose my mind for any iteration of “put that Silvertongue to better use” ayyyyy
