honestly i'm kind of interested in the idea of laios in an arranged marriage. because obviously straight-up inherited monarchies are ...bad, to say the least! but it's what the characters are familiar with (even laios' father's extremely local, extremely minor leadership role is inherited, presumably through the male line). and it isn't just about what they think the best way to run melini is; in terms of ensuring that the other longed-lived nations respect melini's continued sovereignty, having it passed down in a manner that's close enough to their own ways for them to understand it and respect it is important. And it seems like most of the other nations have leadership through inheritance - thought that isn't confirmed for certain except with the elves.
Also, a marriage carries the potential to establish foreign allies - something melini is certainly lacking. A marriage could come with resources they'll badly need, treaties of mutual defence, money, legitimacy and political capital... not that these things can't be worked around, but if laios isn't strongly opposed, there are a lot of advantages! and i don't think he would be, because that's the framework for marriage (conferring practical advantages, building intracommunity relationships and providing a partner to do important work that he can't do) that he had grown up with. he isn't exactly a romantic and I doubt he's holding out for any sort of relationship of that nature.
Like, I don't think it's impossible that they would go with this path, because it's the most obvious and it carries a lot of advantages and it's what almost all the decision-making characters would consider normal and not objectionable. and it could be so interesting.
I think Laios would have major hangups if expected (i.e., by Marcille) to establish a genuine, romantic interest in a woman. Whether because of his sexual or romantic orientation, or just his own deep-seated trauma about rejection and being inherently disgusting and scary. And I think he'd hate the idea of having kids, too, and be very frightened of being like his father. But I don't think he'd refuse on that basis; he could cope with a marriage contract, with clearly laid-out expectations and responsibilities. And when it came to having a kid, I think he'd be reluctant to express that he doesn't want to do it, because he isn't naive and he understood when he agreed to be king it would carry responsibilities like this. It's clear from his nightmare that he already felt pressure from his parents to have children, probably magnified by the fact his father has got a position, responsibilities and wealth to pass on. Obviously he isn't a perfect martyr, so he might struggle when it comes to actually going through with it - but I don't think he'd actually, outright refuse. I think he might do it even though he doesn't want to, and I think that could be really messy in a way that appeals to me.
I don't know, there's something about negotiating these kinds of complicated situations that's interesting to me. and i love a platonic marriage. If they find a woman who has an interest in education, for example, and can work with marcille on setting up schools and universities. she'd ideally be politically savvy enough to be an able partner to laios: even though kabru can and would continue to do a lot of that, there are different spheres that a queen and a prime minister can work within!
how would their relationship work? maybe she finds laios' perspective on the world, and his frankness, unexpectedly liberating after an extremely controlled, cloistered upbringing. maybe she had a rebellious phase, has magic, or something else which makes her a relatively unpopular candidate for marriage - even as melini grows in power, i doubt that they'd be getting offers for the cream of the crop in terms of perceived value on the marriage market, because laios' relationship is a bit too ambivalent/monstrous for that, and melini too new. maybe she's a widow! an older woman, wouldn't that be cool - though they'd want her young enough that she could definitely still have kids.
certainly i think he'd be happy for her to pursue other relationships, though ideally in a manner that couldn't produce illegitimate kids. with other relationships in play, that's even more interesting. like, both kabru and toshiro have complicated emotions relating to infidelity. i think kabru would actually find it quite cathartic to be in the kind of high-status environment that rejected his mother for perceived infidelity, pursuing an affair that all parties consent to, though he'd likely be incredibly aware of the public image - since "image" is what he was rejected for. toshiro... i just really really love the way he'd feel about being the "other woman" in laios' marriage, considering his feelings about his father and maizuru. especially given how much closer he is to maizuru than his mother, being in her position...! his emotions would be so complex, it's incredibly tasty. i bet he'd make a bunch of assumptions about how laios' wife feels about it and be totally wrong, and that's so interesting. also, i think laios' wife should fuck marcille (she and falin have an open relationship).

An underrated detail I really like about super's manga in describing Vegeta's growth without saying anything is that he stands much closer to everyone. Not just the Z-fighters, but anyone he considers an ally. Throughout Z he's kind of famous for standing on the outside of the group and facing away from everyone, usually with his chin down and his arms crossed (very cold, very standoffish, very guarded, 10/10). In super even when his arms are crossed, his body language is more open. He tends to be Part of the group, he generally faces everyone else, he contributes to casual conversation, and he's much more comfortable overall -- not just with the people that he knows well by now, but with everyone.
I like to read it as Vegeta trusting himself again, after his extremely high fall off his pedestal, and having rebuilt his confidence. Not the performative confidence that he has to prove to anyone else, but the genuine confidence he had way back in the Saiyan saga, when he had very little reason to be anything but. Except now he can also afford to be gentle, because instead of his company consisting of those who would pick his bones if he failed, he has had several very intense moments of proof that failing is not a death sentence here. There is always someone coming to help -- whether it's a fighter on the front lines stepping in to buy him a few more minutes, or a support player with a backup plan -- there's someone coming to help.
He's been repeatedly exposed to compassion as something other than a strategy. He's learned how to feel valuable as both a fighter and a support, himself, and it's made him more confident and comfortable in every other aspect of his life.

So! Below are several links to programs and foundations that promote adult literacy! Hundreds of millions of adults world wide were failed by their education system and now must fend for themselves while trying to read contracts and hospital bills and infographics from the CDC. But they don't have to be alone, and it is never too late to learn!
ProLiteracy: A network of educators, researchers, and advocates which provides research reports, learning materials, and other support to adult education programs. They assist with connecting volunteers to local programs and provide guidance and support to community leaders trying to use their programs' findings to advocate for social and political change.
Adult Literacy League: An adult education program in Central Florida, which aims to provide students with one on one attention to foster growth and confidence. It also offers English Second Language courses and job skills training, and each new student receives a comprehensive assessment to determine the best plan for them.
Saint Vincent and Sarah Fisher Center's Foundational Skills Program: A 100% free adult education program aimed at adults reading below a fifth grade level. It operates year round and is either in person or remote, and they now have a GED testing center that is open to students and the public alike.
Washtenaw Literacy: A free network of trained tutors for adults in Washtenaw County, Michigan.
Adult Learning Program (Las Vegas/Clark County): Free education classes to those lacking a high school diploma, those seeking to learn ESL, and adults who read below an eighth grade level. Also assists in students' search for gainful employment. Nevada got so fucked by COVID and the education/literacy numbers in the South West are grim. Please help these guys.
Hawaii Literacy: In addition to helping adult residents of Hawaii Island learn to read and write AND bridging the education gap in Hawaii's underserved children, they offer computer literacy classes, ESL classes, and a bookmobile. 1 in 6 Hawaiian adults struggle to read and write.
#Not Stories#mutual aid#adult literacy#'uuhhhggg its soooo disappointing when i meet a girl who's like 'yeah omg i luv 2 read'#'and then she only reads booktok trash and grocery store thrillers and manga'#'like come on thats such a turn off :/'#'like aren't you bored??? what about reading The Foundation and War & Peace and Grapes of Wrath where's THAT girl haha'#nobody gives a shit what sort of high school reading list gets your dick stiff! NOBODY!#I'm too busy dealing with the fact that most public education systems hate students of color and anyone with a learning disability#from the very bottom of my very dyslexic heart go fuck yourself#'this chick only read 8 books in twelve months lmfao thats so pathetic'#'i read eight books a MONTH some people really give up after high school'#do you think my great grandfather or his father got to fucking finish high school????#or were they busy getting fucking shot at in germany in two different fucking wars????#thank every god you wanna name that my lunatic mother stopped abusing me long enough to put me through FIVE YEARS OF TUTORING#to get ME literate because that's what it fucking took#I watched more than one kid from my underserved semi rural district drop out at 17 or 16 or 15#because their parents needed a third paycheck or they were gonna lose the goddamn house#10% of my majority black school district graduated FUNCTIONALLY ILLITERATE and not an ounce of it was those kids' fault#our racist ass school district failed them and the district did NOT protect my white ass when I was diagnosed dyslexic#the adult literacy crisis is not about you getting a girlfriend who can discuss Ayn Rand with you#the adult literacy crisis is about us being exploited and neglected and made easier to control and manipulate#reading is FUCKING HARD and learning to read after the age of six is SO MUCH HARDER#so from the VERY very bottom of my VERY very dyslexic heart#FUCK. my favourite part of Death Note is that it's an excellent critique of how ridiculous and horrible police/policing ideology/punitive justice is when taken to its natural conclusion/extreme, but the old man writing it absolutely did not have that in mind -- as evidenced by the fact that he had the Good Normal Police take down This Unhinged Freak Who Thinks We Should Kill Criminals (tho tbf I do think it's a pointed critique of the death penalty - "it's still murder even if they're death row criminals" like it's not spelled out but it's pretty obvious the death penalty is murder too then. But the author kinda gives up on acknowledging the normal "justice" system isn't 100% prefect by the end). like I'm not 100% certain but I do think Light's dad was just made a policeman for plot convenience & possibly to explain why criminals take up so much space in Light's head, not because the Kira's ideology could only be developed by the child of a cop. (L would have used that as evidence it was the case.) Also the author said Mr. Cop Father is good.

Usopp’s father is a pirate!
Yasopp aka Chaser.
(I really like his most recent character design).
Tumblr media
Despite Yasopp leaving, and whatever choice words I/we/you have about the guy. That doesn’t mean he isn’t bada**!
I always find it interesting how when we’re first introduced to Usopp (depending on the manga or anime) we soon after find out who his dad is. It’s like Luffy just drops it on us. I remember thinking, “Woah, woah! His dad was in that flashback when Luffy introduced Shanks”. Usopp had increasingly started to become my favorite character at that point.
youtube
For some reason I find it incredibly cool that Usopp already had a bit of credibility given that his dad was already a bonafide pirate. And now that we’ve seen Captain Usopp with a slingshot (in the first or second chapter of the Syrup Village arc), we immediately pick up on the fact that there’s certainly someone he gets his sniping prowess from. If not from Yasopp, then who else?
youtube
Yasopp definitely made Usopp a much more interesting character too. Not that Usopp can’t stand on his personality and character alone, but with Yasopp, we definitely know Usopp has more to offer. We can always expect that “something” in the future. We can rest assured with the fact that he’ll one day acquire advanced observation haki or future sight (which he already has 👀).
When the Red Hair Pirates are brought up, we don’t only think of Shanks (and even Luffy), but we think of Yasopp too. Because Yasopp also serves as that reminder letting us fans know and see how far Usopp’s come as a pirate and young man.
I even hope that one day Daddy Masterson (it’s always been disputed if he’s canon—it’s likely a no) can make a cameo in the anime or cover art in the future where it showcases him reacting to another major sniper feat from Usopp. It’d be nostalgic and rewarding to see. ☺️

read through alien space for star rail context and every frame himeko's in you can faintly hear me in the bg trying hard not to think about how much she looks like diluc
#personal stuff#delete later#remembering the reason i got into honkai in the first place was to see what similarities genshin might have inherited#and going oh yeah!! this is fun actually#anyway yeah. woe same hair color bangs and art style be upon ye. the little hair loopy is driving me crazy#don't get me started on the red eye that pepper mint has contrasted to the delusion. good night#the manga itself was really interesting though! i haven't read a whole lot of the honkai manga bc i don't know where to start really#like i've read azure waters bc i love my girl. and second key for gay people lore#but i haven't read any of the others i don't think#also REALLY funny to me who didn't finish apho 2. originally i thought welt's star rail experience was an isekai.#i honest to god thought void archives hit him with a train and he woke up on a different train#while funny. the actual reality has me head in hands. the image of star rail himeko that welt sees and recognizes her.....auuuugh.#and the very person who rescues him is the person he feels like he did wrong by lying to her. agh.#but yeah! i only knew a little bit abt himeko's dad based on what we're told early in game#so i originally speculated that genshin murata's father was the og pyro archon who died and she took his place#but now i'm not entirely sure.#chances are. since we've seen archons inherit the same Ideal along with their element. murata probably fought her predecessor#and took their place#ACTUALLY FUCK ME. WAIT.#LIBEN'S LINE ABOUT NATLAN . WAS HIM TALKING ABOUT OTHER WORLDS.#at first i thought it was just a cheap way for the developers to talk about their other new game and maybe it was BUT ALSO.#AND AT LEAST ONE MURATA WAS OBSESSED WITH GOING TO SPACE.#HMMMM#listen i am not all that excited for natlan purely on the basis that i know mhy is going to fuck up every character design#but plotwise maybe i am allowed a little bit of hope. lol#anyway void archives pretty. i get it now.

Tumblr media
don’t u dare talk to niisan like that u jerk!!!!!!! >:(
after all the time you spent hating your father for what he did, how he treated you all but especially how he treated touya, and after all the time you’ve spent defending touya and bringing him up at every possible opportunity and never allowing him or his tragedies to be forgotten, this is how you speak to him??? absolutely unacceptable.
i know what dabi/touya has done is unforgivable, but you know better than anyone else what he went through until he was 13 years old, you know how much pain he was in, how much suffering he went though, how wholly inadequate he felt; you know you were the only one he confided in, the only one he felt he could confide in—the only one he thought might have some semblance of understanding of what he was experiencing—and the only one that was his friend; would it kill you to speak to him decently? with even a shred of compassion for your big brother? come on.
