now a new conundrum: would librarian!william read Lady Chatterley's Lover. I'm going to say if he's familar enough to reccomend it, yes. And the reason why is. he met a lady in librarian school who studied it a lot or something.
(this level of reasoning needed is why i don't frequently get far with original fiction)

In the actual sex−thrill within the body, the sisters nearly succumbed to the strange male power. But quickly they recovered themselves, took the sex−thrill as a sensation, and remained free. Whereas the men, in gratitude to the woman for the sex experience, let their souls go out to her. And afterwards looked rather as if they had lost a shilling and found sixpence. Connie's man could be a bit sulky, and Hilda's a bit jeering. But that is how men are! Ungrateful and never satisfied. When you don't have them they hate you because you won't; and when you do have them they hate you again, for some other reason. Or for no reason at all, except that they are discontented children, and can't be satisfied whatever they get, let a woman do what she may
this was written by a man!!

oh this is really readable and quite funny from a modern perspective
And however one might sentimentalize it, this sex business was one of the most ancient, sordid connexions and subjections. Poets who glorified it were mostly men. Women had always known there was something better, something higher. And now they knew it more definitely than ever. The beautiful pure freedom of a woman was infinitely more wonderful than any sexual love. The only unfortunate thing was that men lagged so far behind women in the matter. They insisted on the sex thing like dogs. And a woman had to yield. A man was like a child with his appetites. A woman had to yield him what he wanted, or like a child he would probably turn nasty and flounce away and spoil what was a very pleasant connexion. But a woman could yield to a man without yielding her inner, free self. That the poets and talkers about sex did not seem to have taken sufficiently into account. A woman could take a man without really giving herself away. Certainly she could take him without giving herself into his power. Rather she could use this sex thing to have power over him. For she only had to hold herself back in sexual intercourse, and let him finish and expend himself without herself coming to the crisis: and then she could prolong the connexion and achieve her orgasm and her crisis while he was merely her tool.
WHAT IS THIS 💀💀 i don't think fanfiction Gabe Saporta will really um. be primed to Get this at all lol.
also accoring to wikipedia "The central theme is Constance's realisation that she cannot live with the mind alone" AKA she needs SEX to live fully so this is a relaly interesting beginning in that context, sort of playing a "men only want one thing but women are better than that" but also the book is about a woman wanting sex.
it's also got a pretty heavy distinction between sex-love and "mental connection"-love (romance) which is interesting. people were thinking about different components of attraction before SAM!!

one flaw in my writing is that characters are frequently having double conversations, which i try to cut down but don't manage to fully eliminate by final drafts. making two responses to two different topics in two tones is fine and normal in texting, but people don't really do that when speaking outloud...

oo he's even going to work in real estate it's perfect! the 2008 financial crisis solves all your ficwriting problems!
even the age gap is working out! four years so not quite their IRL gap but i was never going to try for that anyways
writing can be so ridiculous. I wanted to write a cute librarian AU, but since the non-librarian is going to the library for their mom's holds (they're not the bookish type), I had to figure out why they moved back in after having lived on their own for a while (since librarians need master's degrees it would mess with the dynamic have the older person suddenly two years younger & straight out of college). So now I'm writing a fic about the 2007-2009 financial recession.

new holiday declared btw. it's called Scary Christmas. its on January 25th. mark your calendars
#i'm a big fan of scary christmas i really feel like january needs a holiday to get us through it#so i WILL be celebrating scary christmas#it's a good way to extend the festive spirit into when nowadays we actually get snow (climate change 👎)#however i'm thinking if we just go christmas + scary we'll just get a holiday that's indentical to The Nightmare Before Christmas#we need something better than that... i'll be thinkin.
