trying to explain she's scared and feeling alone, Charles' face journey in that scene. . .

I feel like it's a similar connection around the after-effects of abusive interactions he's remembering along with her then. Realizing the kind of relationship Crystal had with David, knowing what it's like to have someone fuck with your head and leave you scared and alone after. . .

Yeah, I don't really mention Sam talking about racism because as you said, he's not a villain or hero here. I've only mentioned him regarding the FYC campaign because it should've been both Sam and Assad or just Assad (in case they could only pick one, which I doubt) and now because there are people finding a way to make it about rpf. On the plantation incident I didn't bring him up because there was no point in it. Anyways, I've realized the fandom is very much like that and is not going to change, so I just block them now. But unfortunately sometimes it still pops up on my dash somehow.

Yeah. I'm lucky I haven't seen it. It's pretty embarrassing to hear people acting like this. It's also the first time I've had front row seats to award season racism, as I usually don't have a movie or show I really care about in the running, so I would hear about it secondhand. Jacob, Delainey, Assad, Sam, and Eric are all immensely talented people, and I really want to see them get that recognition for helping create this show that I care so much about, and it hurts to see them get swept under the rug. It hurts especially when the only one to get nominated is the white one, when I feel like the rest of them have done so much more this season. You almost have to laugh at how blatant it is. And seeing fans go after each other and the actors when we should all be directing our anger at the CC and AMC... It's just disheartening. Critic's Choice, AMC, the fans, we all failed our POC actors here, I fear.

Just remembered how two months ago i went to the local community theater awards, and one person, in their "acceptance speech" was like, "this goes to goes out to everyone who said i couldn't play this role because i was too [x], or i couldn't sing this part because my voice was too [y]!"

Like, girl, what? Who's "everyone"? Was it, like, one single person? Was it someone else who wanted that part? Was it your understudy? This is literally community theater, I have no idea who you are. Why are you acting like your personal drama is some kind of systemic issue?

#the x and y were like. neutral adjectives that one might give for why an actor may not suit a part #they weren't like insults or things people get discriminated against for #one of them was even kind of a humble brag #my life #by elise #also they told everyone to keep speech to 30 seconds or less #and i swear not a single one of them did #i was sitting in that theater seat for THREE HOURS #... full disclosure i also kind of wanted that part but i didn't even audition lol so 🤷🏻‍♀️#i mean you shouldn't be talking shit where the subject might hear it but also #this person needed to chill #they were like 'I'm going to consider this award as also for [other show] bc i KNOW MY WORTH!'#ummm okay why do you need an award at all then?#it was a weird time overall. theater people are weird.

Whoaaaa Challengers for Score!!! Who are these people and what have they done with the Globes???

#I mean GREAT but I guess I was thinking of the Academy (which I really do not see as hip enough to give it to challengers)#but yeah I guess the Globes are different #(for those unaware -- the Oscars nominations are voted on by specific branches in the industry #the directors' branch votes for the director nominees #the actors' branch votes for the acting nominees #the cinematography branch does the cinematograpy noms and so on and so forth #and everyone can vote on the nominations for Best Picture #but once all the noms are in then everyone can vote in all categories #which is why you get some out there nominations in the tech categories that most people have not seen #but the people who are in the industry in fields like editing or sound design or cinematography have #but the actors' branch is the largest branch in the Academy and they vote differently #The Golden Globes are a critics/journalist awards base not an industry one but apparently they have REALLY shaken it up #also different branches in the Academy have different rules #The director's branch for example only gives voting privileges to people who have had at least one movie in the past decade to keep it more #current. The score branch is EXTREMELY old-fashioned. Which is why I don't think the Oscars are cool enough to recognize Challengers in #score bc they rarely nominate electronic scores #see them nominating Indiana Jones of all things last year #but then again everything is apparently chaos I just don't see the GG as being predictive this year #the way they more or less were last year)#lior liveblogs awards season

almost cried as my advisor introduced my talk and emphasized my dedication to science communication, community and coalition building, and broadening participation in stem alongside all my scientific achievements 😭 kept a brave face but I'm crying now tho

#personal #hes just an old gruff middle aged white ohio guy and not pc at all but this matters to him and he knew it mattered y #to me and gave me all the space to do it in my time here #when we first ever ever met we talked about my magazine and i havent published anything new since grad school and figured everyone forgot #but he remembered!!!#like oh my god i just #his not very pc thing is he actively shits on the social media activist bs so many of my colleagues perform this performative allyship #it gives them all these public kudos without ever lifting a finger #where were they during tbr strike where were they in the focus groups where were they in the letter writing #where were they in tbe classroom of the fundraisers or the REU programs or the outreach #nowhere #snd they get all the awards but im doing the work thanklessly bc i love my community and the kids and undergrads and junior scientists #and he gave me such a lovely moment of being seen in front of my whole department for all my work
