know that it’s not the point of the movie but I really hope they establish ken is indeed barbie’s boyfriend. she doesn’t need to kiss him or hold his hand or say I love you but we need that true devoted obsessed boyfriend + badass girlfriend to be canon because you know Ryan Gosling’s Ken would let Margot Robbie’s Barbie commit war crimes in the name of being a supportive partner

in episode 30 when akio tells utena he admires her gender nonconformity and likes the way she dresses and she's like Hey i'm not sure you should be saying those kinds of things to me . but he just argues "we're friends aren't we?" and it's just. argghh. it's something she wants to hear, and she might even want to hear it from him, but she still feels that something is wrong about it. she can't bring herself to trust him. and then later in his car she very directly calls him out, saying that he doesn't act the way someone in his position should. she calls him dangerous even. (and side-note . i rarely see people mention this ? but it's a really important moment. she's trying to stand up to him, she is questioning things (the thing everyone says she never does). and idk man. i'm proud of her for that. it's hard.) and his response to this being that her breaking "rules" (more on this in an analysis i'm working on) and arbitrary restrictions on her presentation is actually no different from any of what he's doing. the fact that he turns that rightful suspicion and uncertainty she has around to say that, really, the two of them are the same. the implication that he understands her and that she owes him that understanding back, even when it hurts her
