i have updated my plex server so that tv shows/movies are added almost instantly! you can even link your trakt account so that adding anything to your watchlist will add it to plex!

create a plex account (for free!) link: https://www.plex.tv/

message me via tumblr or any other way you can find me and tell me your username or the email you signed up with!

wait for me to add you (should be pretty quick unless i am sleeping rip)

small note for phones / tablets: the plex app will probably say you need to pay, but the workaround is to just use your browser to go the plex server website and you should be golden! it’s not as pretty, but it still works!

i love using plex to watch all these things just on my tv just like any other streaming platform, so i wanted to share this experience with people who don’t have the means to set this up. <3

fionna's world being represented by a dandelion makes so much sense ... they're weeds. yet people make wishes through them, changing their whole meaning from something meant to be destroyed to something hopeful.

dandelions are also resilient and it makes sense that something associated with them would. you know. perservere despite the destruction caused by the scarab.

but ultimately i think what REALLY made me tear up over this is that dandelions are really boring plants. when you're a kid you blow on them and make your wish but they're not eyecatching or anything but still, fionna's final wish was for her old world to still exist as it was when she left it (> plain and simple. boring even).

like the moment she realized she would lose her friends, and that her friends might forget each other if the world got its magic back, she immediately decided she didn't want it and I think that ties back to the dandelion metaphor so well... like, do you really need magic to be real to find it everywhere? or can you turn something boring into something magical?

Hywel is inspired by a mix of my issues with stories with nonhuman protagonist/about nonhumans becoming human AND vet posts ive seen warning people about the dangers of anthropomorphisizing animals. Its fine to joke about your pets doing things out of spite or other human emotions, it does put you at risk of not being able to read their body language correctly. Cats dont cry out of sadness, a cat crying, with actual tears streaming down its face, is a sign of a medical issue. A dog smiling isn't doing it bc its happy, it means its nervous. Not being able to spot these is bad, and sometimes even dangerous, for you and the animal.

If you never get past Hywel's human appearance and treat him like one its like getting a reactive dog, doing zero research or training, and then taking it to a dog park. If Hywel mauls someone in town then its on you.

To answer your thoughts on the "eat a fruit" scene: I think it's something about the fact that eating something at someone's house means that you consider that house your friend and trust them, and thus the Count refusing repeatedly to eat anything despite Mercedes' attempts makes it quite clear that he does not consider the Morcerf family a friend! Personally I think it's more about Fernand than it is about Mercedes, but I think Mercedes interpreted it as Edmond saying that he doesn't trust her, specifically (that might also be true; I think the Count/Edmond, for the most of the book, was trying to convince himself that he hated or was neutral at best towards Mercedes, but despite it all he can't help but care about her. Refusing to eat the fruit and honor their hospitality and friendship he's probably also trying to convince himself that Mercedes is not his friend but his enemy)

Ooh yes, I see what u mean! I agree that it was partly about Fernand, especially while Monte Cristo was out circulating in the party & everyone could see him Not Eating & gossip about it (even though when the news got back to Mercédès, she mentioned feeling insulted as the hostess. So it was definitely partly a snub).

But then when they're alone in the garden, no-one is there to witness how insistently Monte Cristo refuses even a bite! ...except Mercédès. It's no longer a public snub against the house of Morcerf — it's personal, his animosity extends to her, & he wants her to know it. Going on yr parenthesis, it seems to me now a very clear "we are not friends, no matter the past we share" message (although Mercédès is Mercédès & she is not one to take that lying down lol)

You know what feeling the Red White and Royal Blue movie is helping me finally put into words?? The joy that comes from ACTUALLY getting to relive a piece of work I love.

By that I don’t mean that it’s exactly the same. It’s actually quite different on many levels. But that’s something that I actually LOVE about it. It’s given me a chance to be surprised by and relive the feeling the book gave me in a new and completely wonderful way. There is no one true perfect, right way to tell any one story, and they did a great job of telling this one in a new and just as enjoyable way.
