Ororo, late in the Genesis war, holding the Uranos Trigger like Yorick's skull, thinking about all she's seen and done after choosing to insert herself in this culture - 'Arakko doesn't have drama kids bc everyone is like that all the time. I've never felt so fucking alive. I wish everyone who made fun of my weather incantations and invocations to goddesses I'm related to could see me now. Exodus would love it here.'
Tumblr media
Jon Ironfire, sweating bullets bc he's had the worst day of his life 3 weeks in a row + he is grieving his malewife who *entrusted him with his sword* - 'Why do you hesitate? If you're not strong enough to press the button to summon the demigod who killed half the planet like a month ago then I will!'
Ororo, waiting for Roberto to and to create suspense *WORDLESSLY FRIES THE TRIGGER TO SLAG WITH A HECTIC LIGHTING BOLT*
Roberto, nodding 'fuck yeah'
Fisher King, having constant PTSD flashbacks and overwhelmed by merging with a sentient swarm of insects plus the thousands of years of memories that come with it - stares at the giant fish and mutters incoherently.
Jon Ironfire, horrified - 'Why did you do that crazy and dramatic thing? I'm going to be rational and try to kill my malewife and his 99 ride or die soldiers by myself.'
Tumblr media
Dick Rider (Nova) watches, appalled but trying to not be judgmental. He's grateful that he's immune to the call of Drama Kid Swag. Out of the corner of his eye he spots a plague arrow flying straight at Storm. He acts quickly and *undramatically*
Tumblr media
Everyone is shocked but they totally get why he did it. It looked super cool. He's beyond fucked up though, and morale is low. They wonder if majoring in theatre was a useless degree, if it's incompatible with being a warrior. Silent prayers are mouthed, a sign is needed - a champion of violence and monologues. 'Magneto!' They think, but it's a forlorn hope. His heart was torn out last war, he kept himself alive using rage and dramatic timing - long enough to slay one final enemy and redefine philosophical deathbed soliloquies.

"...you did not side with your mother. You sided with the helm."
This line absolutely changes EVERYTHING about the Genesis War and really makes you reread previous issues because now a lot more shit makes a lot more sense. Heralds of Apocalypse and XMR #13 are gonna get a heavy reread from me after this because my mind is racing

The Genesis war by Dror Eydar
Let's talk about public diplomacy. We don't have to apologize anymore. Our main argument is that we will no longer allow anyone in the world to harm Jews. Period. Without ifs and buts and without trying to find the reasons for the rage of those who would harm us. We will not participate in this sickening game, which consists of an attempt to understand evil. United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres' statement that the massacre committed by Hamas "did not happen in a vacuum" but was connected to the "occupation" is an example of this moral relativism. Guterres must have felt righteous and moral in being able to understand "both sides": the Jewish state and Nazi Germany. Those looking to understand the psycho-pathology of the Gazans are like those who look for reasons why the Nazis gassed Jews. In the wake of October 7, the game is over: Anyone who harms Jews or Israeli citizens can have only one fate – to leave this world. A society that murders 1,400 Israelis in all sorts of cruel ways and holds hundreds of hostages does not deserve a supply of gas and electricity, and if they want hospitals they should go out of their place instead of protecting Hamas' terrorists as human shields.  No assistance whatsoever. They should be under complete siege until the hostages are released.
This is not only Israel's war, but also a war for the whole free world. Israel is the forward outpost in the defense of the free world. We are not asking for anyone's permission to exist, nor are we asking for legitimacy to defend ourselves. The statements by foreign leaders who identify with us that they support "Israel's right to exist" and "its right to defend itself" should be greeted with a forgiving nod rather than an expression of gratitude. What these statements mean is that they have not internalized that this war is not only ours but also theirs! We will be thankful when those leaders who wish to show their support speak out against absolute evil, support our war against the new Nazis, and take it upon themselves to act in a similar manner.
4. The answer: Recognizing Jerusalem as Israel's capital
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni made a solidarity visit last week. I would have said to her: "Madam Prime Minister, Italy does not help us with weapons or with its military, but at this time you can do something historic that will resonate around the world, precisely because of Italy's place in the region where the Roman Empire once ruled: recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and announce the transfer of the Italian embassy from Tel Aviv to the capital of Israel.  That would correct a moral injustice and encourage the spirit of our people in our time of need." Such an action would clarify where the world stands regarding the moral war against evil, and it would highlight Israel's central importance as the forward post in this struggle. In April 1920, at the Sanremo Conference in Italy, the Balfour Declaration was enshrined in international law; now we must come full circle: Strengthening Jerusalem's status as Israel's historic capital would be a fitting response to the attempted genocide against the Jews.

it's always so fascinating and heartbreaking when a character in a story is simultaneously idolized and abused. a chosen prophet destined for martyrdom. a child prodigy forced to grow up too fast. a powerful warrior raised as nothing but a weapon. there's just something so uniquely messed up about singing someone's praises whilst destroying them.

ive been thinking back to the genesis war when the mask called Ororo rootless and fickle and so far that’s been true. they need to explain why she’s left the Aarakki or it’s going to look like she’s still rootless and hasn’t grown from the genesis war or the resurrection of magneto.
Not explaining changes in Ororo’s status is a common theme in almost all of her arcs. I would know I got into comics specifically the x-men through her reading order specifically, the amount of times I was confused based on Ororo herself was so often I’m no longer phased by it.
I need marvel in general to do write by the Aarakki, I and so many others (actual minorities) identify with them so much. X-men red was one of my absolute favourite comic runs ever not just because of Ewing’s work on Ororo but the development of the Aarakki and their culture. I’ve been waiting for an update on them since post the genesis war and frankly its lazy of them to still have not given us anything on them.
and what was the importance of mysterium??? like where did that go
Ororo, how did you get here?
I wonder if we'll get a solid, in character explanation for why Storm would become a cop (Avenger) again. I'm writing an analysis on From The Ashes (so far) and while I'm clear-eyed about where most characters and books are at, I really need to know if they're even going to bother explaining why Storm would leave Arakko (oh yeah, there's still a million mutants on the red planet) and if they do to what degree. Sure she can just bail off screen but it'd be deeply out of character. She's a member of the Great Ring (or at least she was, occupying Magneto's empty Seat of Loss after she yielded the Regency to Lodus Logos.) She's the most impactful political and cultural figure in a generation. She was the leader of the winning faction in the Genesis War. She had a lover, who was caring for two orphans. I think they were living together. She was happy. I can't recall any ties to Atlanta, but it doesn't really matter. Without serious explanation she's going to look fickle, like she's shirking her duty. A duty she chose, too. Fought multiple wars over. She's getting a solo book, there's totally room to do it properly.
Tumblr media
The other big ting for me is Magneto. The First Krakoan age put him through the ringer - his character arc was objectively given the most attention and subjectively the most satisfying. Even without Uncanny X-Men #700 he was poised to shake up the status quo but when you include his chat with Charles that's a promise. A promise that needs to be paid off. Not just any old promise either - it's an ideological breakthrough five decades in the making! He's been kept in the background so far and I haven't really been able to judge whether that promise is being kept or not. I hope so but my expectations are low. It would be such tonal whiplash I can't even think of an analogy.
Interestingly both Max and Ororo were Of Arakko last time we got a close look. Magneto died defending Arakko, he has friends there. He is literally one of the society's heroes for slaying Tarn the Uncaring and The Hour Of Magneto/Judgement Day.
Tumblr media
Yeah, that's right. *AIR HORN* *PUMPS FIST* He cares about the Arakki and they care about him. He'd want to pay his respects to the Fisher King and generally see how it's going. He lost his place on the Great Ring when he died and Vulcan blew up his house, but neither are especially important. Both planet and culture are dear to him. After X of Swords, in that brief period when the Arakki were on Earth, it was Magneto meeting with Isca about teething problems. 'Twas Magneto who spearheaded the Terraforming Operation, handling the communication/logistics and harvesting enough iron to bring the planet to life from the Khyber Belt. While he was doing that, Ororo was fighting Nameless to the death for the Noontide Seat.
I could honestly go on, but my point is these two especially are invested. (Roberto Da Costa too, but it seems the New Mutants are represented by Magik alone and Cypher looking like an idiot.) If that continuity is disregarded I'm going to have a problem with it. Honestly, if Arakko is there and not being used in any stories I'll be scratching my head. How do you go from terraforming planets to hated and feared on Earth as anything other than a regression? The geopolitical implications of it being there pretty much break the world they're selling us. They're telling us it's so dangerous for mutants that they're developing secret hand signals and Underground Railroad'ing. At least some mutants would move to fucking Mars. All countries would be at Defcon 1. Did the entire galactic council just forget Sol exists?
I'll stop there, save some for the actual essay instead of the rant lol. If you're enjoying it I couldn't be happier for you. I am struggling to, though, and I'm very wary of heartbreak. Maybe that's on me for how I manage my expectations. We shall see.
