Gender in the workplace
A study from 2022 surveyed 15 different European countries to examine the relationship between gender of one's boss and gender discrimination in the workplace. They found that when a company has a female boss rather than a male boss, there was significantly less gender discrimination amongst employees. Female bosses were also deemed to be better at assessing the productivity of their employees, with the presence of more flexible work schedules providing a better work-life balance for their employees.
This is extremely important!! These findings are part of how we can begin to break down gender biases in the workplace and see an increase of women in male-dominated positions!

📝 An open letter to the President & U.S. Congress
đŸłïžâ€âš§ïž Don't Ask, Don't Tell 2.0: The Trans Military Ban Violates Equality & Readines
2 so far! Help us get to 5 signers!
We, the undersigned, call for the immediate repeal of the transgender military ban and demand the full restoration of the rights of transgender Americans to serve openly in the United States Armed Forces.
Why This Matters:
1. Unit Cohesion & Readiness: Transphobia erodes trust among service members, negatively impacting unit cohesion and operational effectiveness. Discrimination has no place in a military that thrives on unity, discipline, and mutual respect.
2. Impact on All Service Members: Policies that target transgender individuals create a hostile work environment, encourage misinformation about the human body, and reinforce harmful stereotypes about gender and capability. This harms transgender, intersex, cisgender, and female service members alike.
3. Historical Parallels: The transgender military ban echoes the discriminatory "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy (1994–2011), which harmed LGBTQ+ service members and was ultimately repealed because it weakened, rather than strengthened, our military.
The Reality:
- Transgender service members have served honorably throughout history, from the Civil War to today. Notable figures such as Pvt. Albert D. J. Cashier prove that gender identity has no bearing on a soldier's ability to serve with courage and distinction.
- Medical & Psychological Readiness: Gender dysphoria is not an automatic disqualifier for service. Many transgender individuals meet or exceed all physical and mental health standards required by the military.
- International Precedents: Allied nations, including the United Kingdom, Canada, and Israel, allow transgender individuals to serve openly with no adverse effects on military readiness.
Our Demands:
1. End the Transgender Military Ban immediately and restore the ability of transgender Americans to serve openly.
2. Ensure Equal Treatment by implementing non-discrimination policies across all branches of the military.
3. Provide Access to Gender-Affirming Healthcare as part of comprehensive medical care for all service members.
4. Uphold Military Meritocracy by ensuring that promotions and assignments are based on ability, not gender identity.
The United States military has always been strongest when it values the diversity, dedication, and courage of its service members. We urge you to take action now to protect the rights of all who volunteer to defend our nation.
Sign this petition to stand with our transgender troops and demand an end to discriminatory policies!

honestly. navigating gender as a black person has been such a head trip. i am desexed in my presentation as a woman with all my masculine traits giving white society further proof that black women cannot be true women. in my presentation as a man i am seen either as a sexual threat or as undeserving of my masculinity, with my feminine affect being used to justify barring me access to "true" manhood. like all things, it has been an act of personal reclamation to navigate something that is not and has never been innate, having to constantly reaffirm myself in the idea that my gender is not only my real lived experience but also the signifiers that i intentionally or unintentionally give off to others.
and then my boss calls me by my deadname and i have to think very hard about how detrimental it would be to do anything about it and i go just that little bit further insane lmao

there's a guy at work who's said some really creepy shit to women, myswlf included. my boyfriend told me to ignore it because the guy gets bullied a lot and he feels bad. how should i approach my bf about that? i thought he was the guy i wanted to marry but i don't want someone who lets other men talk to me that way.
Hi love. I'm so sorry that you had to learn that your boyfriend harbors these misogynistic values, especially if you otherwise thought he was someone you were compatible enough with to see yourself marrying someday. Validating how devastating that must be!
I'm incredibly glad, though, you clearly see that his thinking, not yours, is the problem here and that you're not making any justifications for his inexcusable mentality.
I would ask him why he thinks you should ask him why he believes this is the way you should handle this, and how he would personally deal with a gay man at work who made creepy comments towards him and his other straight male colleagues. Would he then care if he was bullied? Try to see as clear as day what his remark says about his life values and philosophy. Does he think that it's women's role/obligation to ensure men feel comfortable, or is he not emotionally intelligent enough to understand that being bullied is no excuse for treating others poorly?
This sounds like a case of someone who needs to go to therapy to learn to deconstruct his insidious patriarchy hardwiring. I hope that he can work on himself and change his beliefs/words and actions once he recognizes/educates himself on his blindness or blissful ignorance to the constant harassment women are expected to endure/how we are silenced when all we're declaring is our right to equity.
Best of luck! Hope this helps xx

Tragedies of patriarchy plus capitalist exploitation of labor. It can’t be reformed.
Did you know that after they switched to blind auditions, major symphony orchestras hired women between 30% to 55% more? Before bringing in “blind auditions” with a screen to conceal the the candidate, women in the top 5 major orchestras made up less than 5% of the musicians performing.

#tags as a way of talking quietly lawl but now im thinking about how im convinced my sister is going to become a nazi lawl. except#not lawl. because. 😟.#the things she says make it sound to me like she at the top of the slip and slide about to go down#she claims she was 'peer pressured' into being nonbinary. shes a tradwife wanna be. she truly believes that females are biologically#inferior to males and seems to strongly believe in harsh patriarchal gender roles and nuclear family type shit#she genuinely believes that the blm riots were Wrong is genuinely believes illegal immigrants from the south are a threat#shes more worried about ~the economy~ than basic human rights from how she was talking about considering voting trump for lower#gas prices. and recently we got into an argument where she said she cares more about her convenience and her economic stability#than human rights or climate change. she nearly worships car centric united states and is very anti-public transportation#(even when i try to explain to her that public transportation becoming more wide spread would likely lower gas prices and traffic-#-making driving better cheaper and more convenient for her. but she insists that public tranwportation is bad because she personally-#-dislikes using public transportation and insists that her opinion is the correct one and that everyone else feels the same)#shes also extremely ableist. one time she compared people with genetic disorders that they could pass on to children to breeding#dogs with health issues. before then trying to say that she doesnt agree with stopping people from having kids and just wishes there#could be a way to prevent those disorders from being passed down. shes also repeatedly said that she doesnt care if disabled or#vulnerable people die from preventable diseases especially covid. shes an anti masker now and goes in public while sick without one#she also doesnt believe that workplace discrimination is real esp for disabled people. and she will not listen to reason at all with that#shes also one of those kinda 'transvetigator' type of people in a way. she believes trans women should not be allowed to compete in#sports with cis women. she also believes that she can Always Tell if someone is or is not trans (despite obviously the racism present-#-is believing that considering Everything if youre reading these tags you already know exactly what i mean.)#basically. im absolutely convinced shes at the start of the alt right pipeline and that in a few years she will probably be a nazi#and i dont know what to do about that at all because. she hates me. she thinks im stupid and ugly and worthless and never listens to me#it makes me miserable being around her. any time she shows up im immediately stressed and anxious and angry and im basically#always scared of her showing up because its impossible to be around her. anytime shes around i shut down#and im always so relieved when she leaves. and i didnt even fully realize to what extent until recently#2/3 of my most recent suicidal moments within the past few years were caused directly by her and im sure there will be more#it feels so awful to be a gnc disabled person around her because she genuinely acts like im sub human and worthless its so obvious#in the way she talks. she once told me that i embarrass her because i dont shave my legs. like how does that effect you in any way#she still claims to be like. 'liberal' ish i guess. but to me it just feels like a ticking time bomb until shes claiming all non white peop#are evil rapists trying to target pure innocent white wombyn.

Here's the relevant wording from the SDA, section 14(2):
It is unlawful for an employer to discriminate against an employee on the ground of the employee's sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, intersex status, marital or relationship status, pregnancy or potential pregnancy, breastfeeding or family responsibilities . . . by dismissing the employee.

AN OPEN LETTER to THE U.S. SENATE
Women deserve equal pay! Pass S. 728, the Paycheck Fairness Act now!
393 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!
Women—especially women of color—are the backbone of our nation’s economy. But they are consistently underpaid and their work is undervalued. Action on equal pay is sorely needed to address these inequities, but Republican Senators have blocked vital legislation, S. 728, the Paycheck Fairness Act, that would achieve critical progress. The median annual earnings for women working full time, year-round in 2022 was $52,360, or just 84 cents for each dollar earned by men, with much wider gaps for most women of color compared with white, non-Hispanic men. All women—regardless of the number of hours worked during the year—typically made $41,320, or 78 cents for each dollar earned by all men. Discrimination is one of the factors contributing to this gap, leading to thousands of dollars in lost wages for women over the course of their careers. That’s why we need the Paycheck Fairness Act. The Paycheck Fairness Act would strengthen existing equal pay protections, prohibit retaliation against workers who discuss their pay or challenge pay discrimination, limit employers’ reliance on salary history, and much more. These robust measures would bring us one step closer to equal pay. Women and families cannot afford to wait for equal pay. We need to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act now.

Subtle Discrimination Against Women in the Workplace
I’m pretty blessed to work in a space that’s more open and accepting of women professionals than most. It’s a place where ideas flow freely, and women are seen and heard. This kind of environment isn’t just nice to have—it’s a game-changer for a woman’s psyche and confidence. But, workplaces like mine are an exception than a norm. Most workplaces have undercurrents that discriminate against

What Is Gender Discrimination In The Workplace?
Tumblr media
Gender discrimination in the workplace refers to any treatment or harassment based on a person’s sex or gender that negatively impacts their employment opportunities or working conditions. This can include things like paying a woman less than a man for the same job, denying a promotion to a qualified woman because of her gender, or creating a hostile work environment for a woman due to her sex.
Gender discrimination can take many forms and can be subtle or overt. For example, it can be as simple as a comment about someone’s appearance or as serious as sexual harassment. It can also be directed at individuals who identify as non-binary or transgender and can be based on stereotypes or assumptions about what certain genders should or should not do.
One of the most common forms of gender discrimination in the workplace is the pay gap. According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) and the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), the national gender pay gap in Australia has fluctuated over the years but remains present. Various factors, including occupational segregation, differences in working hours, and discrimination, can influence the gap. Gender discrimination can have a detrimental effect on a person’s career and mental and physical well-being. It can lead to a loss of income, a lack of opportunities for advancement, and a hostile work environment.
Employers can take steps to address gender discrimination in the workplace. This can include implementing policies and procedures to prevent discrimination, providing training for employees on the issue, and taking steps to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and with respect.
It’s also important for employees to speak up if they feel they are being discriminated against. This can be done by reporting the issue to a supervisor or human resources representative or by contacting an organisation that deals with workplace discrimination.
Overall, gender discrimination is a serious issue that affects many individuals in the workplace. It’s important for employers and employees to be aware of the issue and to take steps to address it to create a fair and equitable work environment for all.
