Why I think Gem is such an Underrated 'character' in Secret Life
Since she was the newest player in the series I mean she didn't really know the stuff other people do for lore and shit, her whole task where she had to open the end portal she did some cool lore stuff with that but didn't take it too seriously, saying she had to use her OWN eye to fill the last ender eye slot, I mean thay itself has some shit about her orgins in the life series and if u check her different colour skins for the game it shows it did have some impact on her
Tumblr media Tumblr media
^ to continue on the stuff about her skin u can see how there is a skulk like texture going on her arm and stuff which is probably again, an impact from changing her own eye into an ender eye and messing with supernatural shitLike 4 episodes after this lore stuff she gets the bogeyman curse where she has to eliminate and kill almost everyone on the server, it turns into an apocalypse, and I personally think she's an underappreciated villan, After though everyone thanks her, everyone that she did kill and put I the apocalypse which could be some sort of aftereffect, but for Grian he's the only one (out of the people she talks to) that is 'mad' at her even though she didn't even kill him. The Finale is also so important to her lore and stuff, In the finale Grian attacks Her, Impulse and Scott, which makes it a 1v3 and in the end they end up killing Grian, her alliance with the mounders (Joel, Bdubs, and Pearl (well also Mumbo but Mumbo is already dead at this point)) is broken, including her alliance with her best friend Pearl. Which obviously had some impact on her because she THOUGHT that at the end Pearl would make a choice to try and be on friendly terms with Gem, Since it would be her characters first time seeing a perm death of her friend when Impulse dies she's obviously devastated and turned to Scott and went something along the lines of "he's dead Scott why'd they kill him!!" after Impluse dies, (and everyone else) The final 4 are Scott, Gem, Pearl and Scar (Scar being the supposed Villian of the whole series) and Gem had the least amount of hearts out of Scar, Pearl and herself, but had more than Scott, Scott asked her to kill him so that she could have a higher chance of winning, Making it to the final 3 and devastated by another death of a friend but also having much more materials to fight. She thought that "I can't kill Pearl, Pearl is gunna win this", And when she goes to fight with Scar, both Scar AND Pearl try to fight her. She feels betrayed and teleports away with an enderpearl, they both follow her, Scar and Gem fight it ou with Pearl just watching from the sidelines, When Pearl did join in Gem said "2v1 you guys are gross!!" Right before she died, The fandom is always saying she was such a hypocrite, but both times, she DIDNT initiate the fight, each time she didn't. have. a. choice. PLUS even if she did start the fight she was just mourning the loss of 3 of her greatest allies, Impulse and Scott who are dead and Pearl who betrayed her. I just find Gem such an Underrated 'Villan' because for Scar he was the "Villan" because it's what the role forced him to do, but Gem realistically in the apocalypse thing, could have only killed one Person and not led it like an army, She chose to lead them, Because she only had to kill one person and help the second person with the kill.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk
(This is all MY interpretation of how her lore makes sense, don't try and fight me)
Also if we think about the few lore implications with how they show how she didn't tell Impulse what she was going to go do, it could show that with her character, with Secret life being her first full experience it would have impacted her ability to trust and be honest.
(Again most of this is normal stuff that the creators do in the SMP I just enjoy writing lore for their characters based on how they act)

For Gem, of course everything's about honor. She's sparred with Pearl before! She knows that she has the capability to kill her. But when Pearl fights with her, she always cheats, and it hurts.
For Pearl, she's been through hell and back in this series. She knows you do what you can to survive, you do what feels right in the moment. 2v1ing is reasonable and logical.
In a fight, you do what's right, and they both have opposite definitions of that, and it's festering right before our eyes. Get ready for the climax bitches

So me and my partner came up with something after the last episode of Wild Life and I’ve been brain rotting about it ever since so I figured I might as well share about it here.
So we saw in Limited Life that the Watchers have started to… take more direct control so to speak. The return of the Boogeyman sometimes with multiple rolls in one session. The poem after Martyn’s glass death. Martyn’s finale betrayal and the heavy implication he wasn’t entirely there for it. Me and my partner have head canoned since that finale that Martyn, while originally a vessel of contact for the Listeners within the life series, has since been… corrupted so to speak. Spending so much time inside the games fighting to win every time made him lose his way a bit and let the Watchers start to seep in and try to take over as a way of fighting back against the Listeners. And with Limited Life they succeeded.
And then came Secret Life. The Watchers were celebrating and so sure they’d won they started getting cocky. Interfering further even as their control slipped elsewhere. Both a grab for further power and a way of showing off their success with Martyn. They sent the Secret Keeper to watch more directly. To give out orders and pull the strings on the drama from within it better than their rebellious little winner Grian ever did. After all the biggest enemy against him and them in general was now theirs right? Except he wasn’t. Not really. Sure part of him had been changed. Corrupted by the Watchers influence. He was more unhinged, more violent, more hungry for a win than ever. But he wasn’t lost for good. The Listeners could still fight through him. And they were determined to make it count now too. They guided him to Jimmy. Knew if he had a canary to fight for and have fun with it might soothe him. Bring him down to them again. Maybe he could even break the curse. That safeguard the Watchers had put on the weaker of the Listener influences in the world to keep their strength weakened with his early exits before the Listeners could really make things count, or so the Watchers believed anyway.
But the Listeners were more patient than that. And while Martyn was reckless he was having fun with Jimmy. Lighthearted playful fun in between the chaos he wrought on others. Like he’d used to have, back when Ren was around to have it with. Double Life had been a bigger toll on both Ren and Martyn than either let on. Perhaps the weakness that let the Watchers get to Martyn, though perhaps that was just a matter of time too ironically. And while the Listeners could not risk taking their vessel out… they could save Ren for a time. Take their vessel’s favorite out for a bit so he could relax and heal like they’d later do for Pearl and Cleo. It was a risk. But one they knew would pay off eventually. If they just played their cards right.
And then Jimmy died. It wasn’t first. The Watchers got cocky and pushed Lizzie down expecting Jimmy to die to Grian’s antics just as they had planned just a bit sooner than he did. Grian delayed just a bit too long by Mumbo. By the very tasks the Secret Keeper, one of their own, had given out. So Lizzie floated in the void as punishment. And Jimmy was soon out too. And the Watchers were pissed. So they grabbed their new toy and flung it at a wall, metaphorically speaking. Martyn snapped. Jimmy was dead and he was just as pissed as the Watchers for it, if for very different reasons. But deep down? He wasn’t really mad. He was sad. Heartbroken. He’d teamed with Scott in Limited Life to avoid this very thing. Scott was a winner and he was damn good at the game. It was as much him and his sacrifices and team playing that got Martyn his win as it was himself and the Watchers need for drama. Martyn hadn’t wanted to lose again. Hadn’t wanted to bet on a losing dog again even if he’d always be drawn to the people he was close to more than the people who would get a win. He never really lived up to what the Watchers tried to get out of him after that. Because the Listeners had guided him to heartbreak over wrath if just for a time.
And then Martyn was gone and we got to watch and listen as Scott once again made a sacrifice for his team only to for once have it not be the final step to his or his teammate’s success. The patterns were breaking. The curses and boons faltering. The Watchers were losing control more than they’d realized in their moment of cockiness. Now it was winner versus non winner and they couldn’t let Pearl win again. So despite their desires for a villain in Scar she was struck down and Scar was declared the winner. The hero of the story. All with no friends to his name. At least he thought so. But the Listeners knew better. Several people had been guided to him throughout the sessions. To try and make friends. They were always rebuffed. The Watchers wanted a different path for Scar. But the Listeners did not care. For they knew it was the thought that mattered. That would guide Scar’s heart in the future. Scar was punished for his victory. Trapped in that world with nothing but a girl trapped in the endless void he did not know existed for company. But loneliness would only further cement the path the Listeners wanted for him later. They knew it. Even if the Watchers were too impulsive to see how they were playing right into their hands.
And finally we get to Wild Life. Where no alliance is truly secure and the teams can barely even come up with names for themselves. Where every session is a new fresh hell for the players concocted seemingly at random with no rhyme or reason or ties to what came before. Each week a new torture as everything around them starts to fracture. Their minds and their hearts. The challenges they face. Their connections to others. Everything is exaggerated ten fold as the Watchers drum up as much food as they can forcing things much more extremely than ever before. They know they need the power though. Oblivious to the fact that by overfeeding they are shattering their food source apart. Turning what once was hearty steak into spun cotton candy sugar. Sweet. But entirely innutritious.
Ren was brought back with the explicit goal whispered into his ears to bring Martyn back to the Listeners. To warm his chaotic corrupted heart back to how it had once been when they were king and hand. More playful than violent even if that play had bred violence when Grian and the other Watchers demanded it. He was gifted back to the Listener’s vessel on a silver platter and he was hungry for it. Jumped to be back with him in a new form. Ready to steal victory for Ren like he’d failed to do so many times before. He was a winner now after all. Stronger. Fiercer. Violent. Feared. Wild. It was perfect wasn’t it? The wild card of the winners dragging the former king to his throne? But the Watcher corruption was strong as the world started to shatter. Ren’s attempts at plans and soothing were targeted so that corruption could be maintained and Martyn was set loose to cause problems for everyone even more so than the Grian or the Watcher vessels Pearl and BigB did. And yet still Martyn stays intently loyal to the man despite the betrayals everywhere else, because that’s his losing dog, and he will make him king again.
Meanwhile Scar was gifted two new friends for his new team. Two friends as clumsy and seemingly harmless as him. Jimmy and the one who had broken Jimmy’s curse. Surely he would be harmless too now. Would no longer get in the Watchers way like he had so many times before in seemingly every game. He was a winner now too. Surely he would back off. But if anything it just made him fight harder. Because he was lonely. And he was gifted friends. And he refused to be lonely again now that he had them.
Jimmy was always a Listener vessel. From the very start he’d been guided by them. But Lizzie was a bit of a unique case. Because the Listeners could not send one of their own the way the Watchers did with Grian they instead took two special cases to add to the fray when they needed it most. Not vessels, but simply untouched parties who had not had chunks taken from them like the other players, who when they played could be easily drawn back to the Listeners arms to be healed and comforted. Lizzie was one of these players, Mumbo being the other. And so while Lizzie had no guidance she was still very much a spy of sorts for the Listeners. A piece they knew the Watchers would ignore even if they shouldn’t. Disregarded as unimportant for their weakness and lack of strong food but strong in exactly the ways the Listeners needed them to be so that the other players could one day be like them. She had already served that role once before in unknowingly encouraging the Watchers to prompt her early death and breaking of their own curse on Jimmy, and perhaps even before in distracting her husband and stealing his wrath whenever she was on the field whether in her own body or not, and now she would play it again in helping to keep the boys alive and granting them the gentle love and care they required to heal from the unique punishments dealt to them.
Meanwhile Mumbo had a different task. While Lizzie was like the ocean, gentle on the surface but with the power to be all consuming when they needed her to be, cleaning and distracting with her presence around someone, Mumbo was rather the opposite. He was a cloud of smoke. Coal dust filling the air. Blocking out the eyes that sought to watch so intently. Drawing attention with his anxiety but never quite making strong enough moves to feed. Hiding what the Watchers should’ve been focused on instead with the drama he imposed in his own head but rarely held tightly to amongst others. Rarely doing more than a few paranoid words and always following those with stronger convictions than his own even when they countered the words he’d just spoken. So Mumbo was given to Grian. Half a peace offering considering the Watcher’s unique obsession with the man. And half a distraction for him. Something to steal away his attention so his fellows couldn’t try to force his rebellious spirit to serve them regardless of his wants. A poison in the already chaotic world to break it down further by keeping the one with the most direct control over the chaos focused on someone who clearly needed and wanted his attention.
And that was their goal. Poison this world. This cycle the Watchers had created. It would be painful for the players yes. But the Listeners knew it was what needed to be done. If they did not make the game unable to be repeated the Watchers would just start another one. And another. And another. Until the players themselves were so broken they were little more than puppets. At least this form of chaos had them causing it of their own free will. A painful free will none of them truly wanted to follow. But a free will nonetheless. One that hopefully could break them free so they could be healed piece by piece and allowed to return to the lives they deserved to live outside of all this turmoil.

Theories and Headcannons Pt. 22
So new week, new theory about Doc's new poker game and the hermits decided to be used as the monarchs and joker for each type of deck. Innovated from the French-suited playing cards, Doc's poker deck has four suits, diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades, and each suiting having three court cards, King, Queen and Jack. This results in only twelve available spaces considering one hermit takes one court card each and leaves fifteen hermits unable to be represented by the cards. Nethertheless even with the limited representation of the hermits, each cards has its depth and lore.
Starting with the suit of diamond, has Doc representing its King, Gem representing its Queen and Scar representing its Jack. As diamonds is represented as a valuable material considering its bartering and trading value in Hermitcraft, being the main currency for shops, it's reasonable that Doc would be the face of Kings of Diamonds. Gem's reasoning is also obvious due to her talent considering both PVP and her building skills. Finally Scar, being the Jack of Diamonds is poetic due to his bartering (scamming) skills built from his charisma to trade for "diamond" tiered items with common items.
The court of Hearts is a different story considering its representatives are Rendog for the King, Falsesymmetry for the Queen and Bdubs as its Jack. With the symbol of Hearts often depicted as red and hearts in general epitomising the living flesh of a person, Ren as the King is perfect. As RentheKing in Hermitcraft Season Nine and the Red King back in Third Life, Ren deserves the position of King of Hearts. Second to the King of Hearts, is Falsesymmetry, the winner of Season's 10 demise. With hearts also depicting the life and soul of a person, it's also fitting for the winner to recieve the mantle of Queen of Hearts. The final court of Jacks is Bdubs, who in Season Nine of Hermitcraft was the assistant or right-hand man to RentheKing. Resulting in his title of the rank below the King, Jacks of Hearts.
With the court of Spades, majority of its court was already explained by Doc in his previous Hermitcraft 10 episode, (29) with the Jack of Spades being Mumbo, a spoon, Etho being definitively cool and the suit of Spades being objectively cool (in Doc's perspective), and Pearl fitting the role of Queen of Spades. But the reasonings run deeper than this besides Mumbo's spoon reasoning. Take Pearl, the Queen of Spades. Back in Season Nine, she was the Cleaning Lady, taking on jobs of cleaning chestmonsters and other messes with a price. Spades is often linked with the concept of cleaning so it was natural to pick Pearl. The final court card, Kings of Spades, is given to Etho and rightfully so because of his connections to Shade-E-E. Originally Shade-E-E was a "subscription service" and later evolved to a "gardening service" which entailed him using dirt and other blocks to create pixel artworks for the other hermits in saeson seven. And what else is connected to dirt, spades, hence the King of Spades being Ethoslab.
The final suit, Clubs, consist of King of Clubs being Xisumavoid, Queen of Clubs being ZombieCleo and Jack of Clubs being Grian. Although the listed hermits' connections to the suit of Clubs may be vague, there is a connection hidden between the layers of history the deck of cards retains. With majority depictions of a deck of cards using French-suited playing cards, other versions of the standard 52-card deck is found throughout multiple continents with German depications of the Club being an acorn. Acorns also being a symbol of strength and resilience, a trait Xisuma has constantly demonstrated throughout the decade Hermitcraft has been running. Cleo's connections of the suit of Clubs includes her role as an enforcing monarchy, the Queen, with a royal baton otherwise known as a sceptre being a symbol of royalty. Finally, Grian's relation to the Club are the multiple depictions of the suit of Clubs being of a plant. Plants and weeds like the clover and acorns are all edible to a range of bird species, both domestic and wild and with the fandom's collective decision to represent Grian has a human with avian features, it's his connections to birds that create his relationship with the Jack of Clubs.
These twelve court cards all with their representative hermits all have depth and lore leading their portrayal as the monarchs and Jacks of each suit.
---------
So this theory is finally here and I hope it made up for the multiple weeks without theories. Still have to cope with exams but soon I will be free from these shackles.

i think something like season 8's moon big thing is going to happen again this season-
in several magical mountain people's recent episodes (i remember mumbo mentioning it a couple episodes back and grian as well? not sure who else) they've mentioned that something weird/something big feels like its happening in the world (grian even made a straight up moon big reference) but i think this time it's going to be something with the ocean
this kind of starts at the very beginning of the season and follows through. in grian's very first episode he calls magical mountain a volcano and that idea has followed through and now they're hollowing it out. in another episode when he gets flung up in the air he makes a moon big reference. soo early season ideas/references seem to be following through to now
in episode 2, grian gathers a crowd of people (gem, etho, impulse, skizz, ren, cleo, cub) and they all just chat and fish and make jokes about how the ocean can get you addicted to fishing and pretend the ocean is a higher being that will provide fishing rods to those it sees worthy (we also see it a bit in the end of grians episode 1) eventually leading to ren saying "i don't know why im doing this but i don't want to stop" and cleo agreeing. etho originally had also been skeptical but quickly got dragged into the shenanigans and very happy with getting lily pads for some reason? it's just a fun random interaction but some of those things can lead to lore.
etho also says in this interaction "dont drink the koolaid" because gem randomly suggests to all eat a pufferfish which i don't fully understand the phrase but it comes from a guy who made a cult and lured his followers out into a jungle (etho loves jungles) and because cults always have a like Date where they believe their higher power is coming to save them and commit mass suicide on that day, the guy made a lot of poisoned koolaid and everyone died. so cults
in gem's most recent episode (19) she builds an artists house and says the artist looks out on the water for inspiration but as a result has become quite paranoid.
in season 8 they have a cult of people not sleeping because they think the moon is a higher power come to save them or something and early season 10 was a cult of people fishing, not to mention that certain patterns seem to repeat every other season (season 7 and 9 were both really long, in season 9 people were nostalgic for season 7 and in season 8 people were nostalgic for season 6 and certain storylines that could have some parallels drawn not to mention that everyone compares season 7 and 9 for the length and says that they were incredibly long perhaps suggesting that this season might be a bit shorter? its also the fact that in season 7 and 9 everyone built Starter Bases and then moved out to larger bases but in season 8 and now season 10 they seem to have made starter homes and expanded on them while still living out of their day one builds)
basically, tldr: something big is happening and i think the oceans doing it
theres something in the water and its making the freaking frogs gay (its making the block people all do __punk or east asian vibe stuff and bureaucratic/public service-y)

pearl and cleo have fundamentaly changed after limited life, pearl found a family to fight for, finally laying dawn the title of lone wolf while cleo, who maybe hasn't changed much personality wise, has turned human, very clearly flesh and bone since last episode
lizzie in secret life, is an outsider, almost like she's taken over pearl's curse of loneliness, gem on the other hand thrives as a zombie, or so it seems at the surface, only time will tell if the massacre was worth its price
so maybe the body and soul imprint on each other, maybe you can't split the two exactly without leaving bits and pieces disarranged, maybe lizzie and gem took pearl and cleo's defining traits after limited life
maybe months from now, when everyone has forgotten about zombies and betrayal, rendog will awaken with an unfamiliar fury consuming him from the inside out

Impulse has literally just confirmed Life Series....
To put you in the loop for anyone who doesn't watch their phasmophobia streams;
They're recording the life series quite possibly tonight (Tuesday night) cuz they usually do a phasmophobia stream each Tuesday, however Impulse said recently (I'll link the video) that it was gonna have to move to a Friday. Whenever a life series is on they generally record on Tuesdays, but Impulse basically confirmed it by saying it was the 'worst kept secret on the planet'.
Jimmy, on the other hand, keeps denying... But it's ok Tim. We know you tried.
So this is the vid (below).
Oh yea and if anyone has any suggestions of who they'd like people to ally with put them in the comments!

Everyone is predicting Gem to win because of the Shiny girlies going on a rampage and racking up a ridiculous amount of hearts, but…
I propose Scar might win! Not only would it be Objectively Funny, but he’s third place in the heart count right now and has been surprisingly survivable this season. Ran circles around the wither, avoided Gem’s boogey curse for an impressive amount of time, he’s been holding in strong! Not even to mention that he managed to get second place in 3rd life… Although I do admit a lot of that is probably Grian’s babysitting.
Anyways, Scar has a genuinely good chance to win this season so yeah!

I love Ren presumably using "we" and "us" because he's acting as if both his and Tango's souls are still present as he is possessing Tango, but also like lore-wise. Just considering it in lore is like.
I'm reading this whole thing as Ren taking over Tango when his character didn't really need to have a sub. In Pearl's case during Limited Life, she was taken out because she didn't have enough time to recover from how much Double Life affected her and Cleo just. Idk needed a break from their messy family drama or something. However with Tango and Ren, Ren was acknowledging Tango kore than Lizzie or Gem addressed Pearl and Cleo. Ren even explicitly says that he feels like something inside him (as much as that sounded. Horrible in the moment. Goddammit he can't escape the innuendoes, can he?).
Idk I've just been....thinking about. I'm not the smartest when it comes to this #Lore stuff, and idek if this is coherent but MAN. The idea of Tango vaguely knowing something is up, but not really being able to do anything about it is just.

calling it here, Gem's gonna live up to the GeminiSlay title and win secret life. 3/4 of the four past series have been won by someone who is either scott or associated with Scott, and no offense to Impulse but Gem's the better fighter.

Random Empires Ideas
A small collection of theories and Headcanons for Empires
1) I don’t know if this is just me pushing a Nature Wives Agenda, but it feels like there’s no way that Shub’s corruption arc doesn’t end with a “I know you’re in there” fight with Katherine. It would be so satisfying.
2) Thinking about Gem’s whole deal, I’m starting to develop an idea where she’s an ascended god, like Pearl. Right now, I’m thinking she was a normal person with a ton of pressure and responsibility, and since she has ascended, she’s able to live the lives she thought she never would be able to. Also, I like to think that if Gem is a God, then her church is her subtly building up a following for herself.
3) I like to think Pix is in the same boat as Gem, although I think of him more as an old god, who is just vibing on earth now, cause he can. Basically characters who routinely break the fourth wall
4) Every time False releases a Hermitcraft video, I get a little more nervous, because given her last empires video, when we don’t see Empires False, she is possessed, and I don’t think whatever entity is possessing her is very nice.
5) I don’t have a concrete idea, but somehow, the defeat of Evil Sausage is going to depend on Pearl. Definitely Saint Pearl, maybe hermitcraft Pearl. I suspect Pearl placed Sausage (And maybe Oli) in this world for the specific purpose of defeating Evil Sausage.

Theorious and Headcannous Pt. 15
So this Life Series theory is that Gem's and Lizzie's substitution as Cleo and Pearl respectively were a sort of testing by the Watchers for new contestants in Limited Life.
For some context, in session six, Limited Life, ZombieCleo and PearlescentMoon were unable to participate in that particular session and so GeminiTay and LDShadowLady substituted for them resulting in many shenanigans and deaths.
So this theory basically stems from the fact that both Gem and Lizzie become participants in the next season of the Life Series with Lizzie returning for her second season and Secret Life being Gem's first official season.
Through the amount of bloodshed, betrayal and overall chaos harvested throughout Limited Life, the Watchers decided to run a small experiment. To test new contestants without any context and transport them to the confined world of Limited Life and see how well they would adapt and generate chaos that the Watchers could feed of. So then these two subjects were Gem and Lizzie who sprouted and developed seeds of chaos by Gem being the Canadian gremlin she is and Lizzie with the Grian kill.
The Watchers deemed their presence worthy to summon them to the next installment of the Life Series, Secret Life.

You know, I was talking with a friend about Geminitay in @chrisrin Au and something came to mind.
The beetles in Steven Universe are rare, and wear long dresses which in Homeworlds culture implies a very high status
They are very small and weak so they MUST have some very powerful mental ability to be such high status, Homeworlds society is based on roles and use and the earth and heaven beetles wouldn't have been made if they didn't have some op ability to offset how weak their body are.
