I think a key part of the Ranchers as a ship that gets me that a lot of folks either miss or aren't as into are the fact that were it not for being put in a situation together they would not have gotten together. Like in canon it's the soulmate mechanic and the fact Tango got them blown up that gets them together. They don't see the other and get a crush or really have anything in common. It's all the Situation. When they're in an au if they just like each other after idk, meeting on the street, it doesn't feel like the Ranchers. That's any ol ship y'know? You gotta be throwing these nerds together in a life or death situation and making them stay in close proximity before the slightest hint of a crush is gonna make sense with their dynamic.

Titch got bullied in school and at home he was too focused on trying not to disappoint his dad to ever be vulnerable. don’t focus on that this isn’t a sad hc my point is that every day Titch takes a little bit of time to just sit curled up in Derek’s arms and breathe and let himself be vulnerable and be warm because he doesn’t let himself do that anywhere else. and also to just rest because he is chronically terrible about taking breaks.
