It's very unfair that I can't have other party members romance each other In my main game where my Tav is in a romance with Karlach I should legally be allowed to have Gale and Astarion and Shadowheart and Lae'zel romance each other like why? let me do it damn it

something liberating about realizing that otherwise fully gender-conforming, fully cisgender-and-heterosexual men are considered "not real men" and gnc for *checks notes* being a human person? with a personality? feelings and thoughts even. like. okay then if NOBODY gets to be a real man i guess EVERYONE gets to be one. if they want to. no need to worry about that. the game was rigged since the start anyway 👍

"mimic"
Tumblr media
oc x canon (mild) word count: 0.3k
Kotetsu waves Yamato over as he's spotted across the street, seemingly excited about something. He does, Tae repeats that sentence in Kotetsu's exact voice while Izumo snickers when Yamato stands before them.
Yamato's expression in response is vaguely amused but unsurprised, then does the same after clearing his throat. Kotetsu and Izumo are both really impressed, giving him their praise.
Yamato says that "mimics" aren't uncommon among reconnaissance type nin and Tae corroborates; Kotetsu huffs that Tae's not so special after all and gets his cheek pinched by the jonin in question. Izumo points out that it's still a cool quirk to have, if not a nice party trick to have up your sleeve, then asks if they both had more voices to show.
The men agree to entertain their peers for a while with a variety of them, even copying some of the people in their life like Genma or the Fifth herself; hearing Gai's voice come out of Yamato with a fiery expression to match had Kotetsu and Izumo in stitches. Tae had a wide range between high and low, but Yamato's impressions seemed to be more accurate if he went lower.
Yamato mentioned between coughs that he used to be able to mimic more feminine voices too but after a certain point it got harder, then impossible. He met Tae's gaze on him with a small smile and watched the cogs slowly turn in his head in trying to decipher his little hint. Before any questions could be asked, though, Yamato offered to buy lunch for the gang and there were no complaints.
If the boyfriends noticed their little exchange they didn't make a big fuss out of it; Kotetsu and Izumo were, however, giggling and elbowing each other while they walked ahead to give the budding "lovebirds" some "space" together.

i just think solo and illya's overwhelming trust and faith in one another is the most sweet and true form of romance that has ever existed and the fact that they always know that each other will be both honest and reliable in the mess of whispers and backstabbing that is espionage makes me insane every single day. every time i think about how blatantly illya trusts and favours solo over everyone else i want to chew off my own fingers. they trust each other so perfectly and they're so in sync and i'm soooo normal about it!!!!!

My memory of The Birdcage (1996) is always that it's more dated and more difficult to watch than it actually is. You hear "drag-themed comedy from the 90s based on a musical from the 80s based on a play from the 70s" and you brace yourself just a little, right? But the film has a strong gay perspective, so the fruity fag jokes mostly come off as warmly affectionate. There is a surprising amount of poignancy in Robin Williams' portrayal of Armand, grudgingly agreeing to his beloved son's request that he go back into the closet for an evening ("do me a favor and don't talk to me for a while"). The drag club's staff attempting to redecorate the apartment with stuff straight people might like (a taxidermy moose head, an enormous crucifix, and Playboy magazine) is extremely funny. Albert's histrionics are a point of tension because he does often come off as a stereotypically pathetic/comic figure, but towards the end of the movie he makes it very clear that he's aware of how people see him, and asserts that trying to copy a stoic masculinity he doesn't possess for the sake of social approval would be more pathetic. In the 1983 musical adaptation, they give "Albert" (Albin) the only good song in the whole show, "I Am What I Am", which Gloria Gaynor covered to the delight of gays everywhere. Apparently Nathan Lane wasn't (publicly) out yet in 1996, which is amazing because it means that at one point in this movie you're watching a gay man playing a straight man playing a gay man playing a straight man, in a movie about how it's important to be yourself, an absurdity that does seem to encapsulate the state of gay America in the 90s.
