Here we are! My version of the older gaang!
I'm gonna detail some of my thought processes below the cut
Tumblr media
(Original for reference)
So for Aang, I had several gripes about his older version. The first and biggest one was that he looked wayyy to angular, so I softened up his feautures. Additionally, he's supposed to be about 23 in that drawing, and I mean, I thought he looked much much older than that (being 22 I think I have a little insight), so I tried to keep him a little uounger looking as well. Next problem was his clothes. To be perfectly fair I hated just about everything about them lol. Weird long-sleeve shirt under a vest/cape under a sash? It looked. Silly. I opted to keep his clothing similar to his Book 3 outfit, as I really liked it, and added his prayer beads(?), as well as a betrothal necklace! I feel by this point he and Katara would likely be married, and I liked the idea of Katara carving a necklace for Aang
For Katara, at first glance I didn't dislike her design, but then I looked at it closer. The short-sleeved shirt with the fur, implying that its made of quite a heavy and thick fabric sounds like a sensory nightmare. She appears to be wearing a shirt underneath, but the sleeves are clearly no longer than the topshirt, which seems. Weird and unnecessary. Skirt was okay, just a little boring, and she also is wearing pants underneath? So what I did was keep the general vibe, but made the top robe longer, and keep the bottom layer as just pants, trying to be more reminiscent of her old outfits. Gave the belt a little more ✨️pizazz✨️, and also gave her back her water pouch. I liked it, wanted her to have it. The last big change I did was I read up on Inuit tattoos, and decided to give her tattoos as well (Sokka was also originally going to get tattoos, but as it turns out the practice is almost done exclusively by woken and for women, so I decided against it)
Toph. I completely hated and have always hated the notion of her being a cop. It just. Doesn't really sit in line with her as a character imo. My other big gripe is they did nothing different to her hair! Anywho. So my biggest challenge was what would Toph actually do in the future? And I landed on pro-bending! I think she would have really enjoyed it, she'd get to Earthbend for a living (one of her favorite things), kick people's asses (another favorite thing), and make hella money (another favorite thing!) So I decided to put her in a pro-bending uniform, and try to imagine what early ones would look like (I figure she'd probably be one of the first pro-benders). Not much changed to be perfectly honest, aside from some coloring differences, more green trim denoting her as an Earthbender, rather than the neutral yellow/ reddish trim on the modern ones (also I realized only now that i covered her feet. Woops lol). I also chopped her hair short. I think she deserves it (eventually I'll get around to drawing a more up close version of her face/hair)
Zuko. Umm. His outfit baffles me. I cannot make any sense of it tbh. The shirt under the shoulder armor under the outer robe. The motorcycle-esque saddle bags. The skirt over the longer skirt. It all had to go lolol. I get that they were going for him being more like, adventure-ready/battle-ready, but he has a country to run! And is also trying to move away from the heavy militaristic/imperialistic image of said country. So I gave him a more relaxed, diplomatic looking outfit. Also. Where did his crown go? I put that back. He's the oldest of the groip, but still not quite 30. He's the only one that recieved any age lines, and it's just between his eyebrows (I imagine doing paperwork and sitting in meetings would make him furrow his brow a lot). Gave him the teeniest bit of facial hair, tbh I truly think the only one to grow reliable facial hair at this age range is Sokka lol
In my personal opinion, Sokka's original design is the best one. My least favorite part is probably the compression sleeve under the arm wraps, which seems redundant somehow. But overall not too bad! Still, I said I was gonna redesign them all, and I knew I could add a lil more sparkle to it. I wanted to take inspiration from Hakoda's outfits. Sokka really looks up to his dad, so I feel like modeling some of his clothing after him isn't a stretch at all. I also just personally believe that Sokka would wesr Uggs. So I've given him shoes similar to them lolol. Also gave him some facial hair starting to become similar to his dad's as well

Avatar Aang aka Master Katara's malewife lol.
I'm pretty sure that the engagement necklace is only a thing in the northern watertribe, but i had been plagied with thoughts along the lines of "what if Katara proposed ro Aang with a necklace and after his death Kya II would wear it."
So enjoy aang in Kya II's weird smiley face necklace and also a cringey comic in my poor rendition lol.

The video accompanying this project (turn the english subtitles ON ^^)
I don’t know if I’ve already told you, but I really, REALLY DON’T like live-action remakes of animated movies/series. Alas, it seems that no one shares my opinion given all the live works adapted from animated works still released. Their latest victim : "Avatar, the last airbender" !
Tumblr media
My new pitch : in a world with a Nimona-like level of techology, the Fire Nation has more or less conquered the world. Not by force, but by influencing long-term technological and cultural advances. Bending has become increasingly rare, to the point that many think of it as just legends. One day, two children of the Water Tribe find a hurt and amnesiac golem in their neighborhood. This new trio go on an adventure to restore the golem's memory and perhaps change the course of their world.
Tumblr media
Name : Aang (real name unknown) Age : unknown Species : Avatar Origins : Hevenly Realm Confirmed Bending(s) : Air Potential Bending(s) : Water, Earth, Fire, Energy
In my new pitch, Avatars are willless golems, emissaries of divinities charged with bringing order when spirits and/or mortals endanger the balance of the world. Often by eradicating three-quarters of all life forms. Their youngest is our hero, sent to Earth to restore the balance of the elements disturbed by the increasingly intensive industrialization. Preferably by drastically reducing the mortal population. Except that on arrival, he's seriously injured and ends up forgetting his status and all his Bendings except that of the Air. Picked up by Katara and Sokka, the newly named Aang will embark on a quest around the world to understand who he is, where he comes from, why and relearn orther Bendings. In doing so, he'll also develop a consciousness of his own, attach himself to this world that he knew only from afar and will try to save it without having to commit aggravated genocide.
Tumblr media
Name : Katara Age : 14 Species : Human Origins : Wolf Cove, Southern Water Tribe Confirmed Bending(s) : Water Potential Bending(s) : Healing, Blood
In my new pitch, the Fire Nation has more or less conquered the world by influencing long-term technological and cultural advances. Of course, each country would retain its cultural and architectural peculiarities, but the Nation's hegemony is felt. My Katara is one the few people who openly question this state of being, even though she's strongly reprimanded when she does so. She believes in the legends of nature spirits, elemental Bending and in the Avatar sent by the deities to protect the world. When a strange humanoid creature literally falls from the sky in her neighborhood, she collects it against the advice of her older brother. Feeling responsible for the little golem, they decide to accompany him in search of his lost memories. But under the influence of the newly named Aang, Katara discovers herself capable of waterbending ! Can she bring this art back to life ?
Tumblr media
Name : Sokka Age : 15 Species : Human Origins : Wolf Cove, Southern Water Tribe Specialty(ies) : bare-handed/remote/close combat, planning, adaptability Weapons(s) of choice : club, boomerang, machete, sword
In my new pitch, the Fire Nation has more or less conquered the world by influencing long-term technological and cultural advances. Of course, each country would retain its cultural and architectural peculiarities, but the Nation's hegemony is felt. My Sokka shares Katara’s skepticism about this, but is more discreet on the subject because he wants to avoid trouble. Although he likes to learn more about Water Tribes' culture and secretly learned to handle the traditional club and boomerang. Until he and Katara discover a damaged golem. Initially, he prefers to forget and move on; but ends up bringing it home under pressure from his sister. It's also Katara who'll encourage him to follow the newly named Aang in search of his missing identity. Firstly coming to watch over Katara and avoid diplomatic incidents, he'll eventually realize the extent of the situation and get more involved in the world's future.
Tumblr media
Name : Toph Beifong Age : 12 Species : Human Origins : Gaoling, Earth Kingdom Confirmed Bending(s) : Earth Potential Bending(s) : Metal
In my new pitch, Toph will be the daughter of a Fire Nation partisan couple who, in addition to brooding her as if she were made of glass, encourage the Nation’s influence on their hometown. Although accepting and recognizing what the Nation has brought to them, Toph is lucid enough to question it. And people don't relly mind because she’s a poor little blind girl who can’t hurt a fly ! Of course, she'd stay the Blind Bandit in her parents back. When our heroic trio arrives in her city, she ends up joining them in order to escape from the golden cage in which her parents locked her since her birth. And just like Katara, Aang’s influence allows her to reconnect with her own earthbending (and maybe even the notorious metalbending, who knows).
Tumblr media
Name : Zuko Age : 16 Species : Human Origins : Imperial City, Fire Nation Confirmed Bending(s) : Fire Potential Bending(s) : Lightning
n my new pitch, Zuko (still Crown Prince of the Fire Nation) lost his left eye in an attack presented as a terrorist attack on the imperial palace. He thus serves as a martyr for his country. And even if he firmly believes in what he was taught, he is also aware that something's hidden from him and will therefore decide to conduct his little investigation with his uncle Iroh. One thing leading to another, Zuko will put more and more his education and everything he has been taught so far in question, until joining the Avatar team.

a list of head canons
I tried to keep them in somewhat chronological order.
If you read the others most of these are repeats I just wanted to put the safe ones in their own post.
HC: all of the kids have their own rooms on ATI, Aang and Katara make sure they know they always will have a place on the island no questions asked.
HC: Lin hates the cold
HC: Toph doesn’t hang anything up in the house. There’s no point. If Lin or Suyin want an award or art displayed it’s only allowed in their own rooms. Lin has a Hard Time when Katara puts her work or an award she got up in the hallways and in the living spaces of ATI.
HC: growing up Lin was always brought along when Toph went to talk to Iroh and she remembers watching them play Pai Sho and stealing sips of his tea, usually Jasmine.
HC: Lin starts teaching herself to sculpt stones into shapes and statues and gets really good at it. She actually makes a small sculpture of her and Suyin because Toph made a comment about school photos being useless to her.
HC: Iroh taught all of the Gaang jr how to make tea the right way and Lin’s go to comfort tea is always been Jasmine.
HC: Lin starts painting and drawing and is actually really good and it’s a private hobby she keeps to herself because it’s something she can’t be compared to her mother.
HC: Lin is the top student in all of her classes and her ProBending team wins the junior championship and even beats an actual Pro Team that volunteered to fight the junior winner after their win as just a fun match. She and Tenzin start dating when she’s 16 and he’s 17.
HC: Over her time in the force she redesigned the metalbenders uniform to be more protective and streamlined.
HC: She designed the mechanism to get her officers OUT of the uniform that anyone could pull when a few of her fellow officers were stuck in their gear when they were downed in a fire and ended up with severe burns because the healers couldn’t bend the metal off of them.
HC: She invented a blade that sits in the gauntlets of the uniform with another release mechanism that non benders can used to get the blades out should a situation call for it.
HC: When she’s handled her anger Lin tries to reach out to Tenzin trying to reconnect to when they were childhood friends and keep him in her life in that capacity. She even has gifts for Pema and baby Jinora. But Tenzin is Awkward as fuck and just ghosts her, only talking to her when their job required it. Lin Got the Hint and just quietly kept an eye out for the family without getting too close again.
HC: Lin grows close to Saikhan and his family, being invited over frequently for dinner and Saikhan’s youngest, Taiyo, looks up to her and is always drawing her pictures and making crafts that Lin keeps in her home office.
HC: Lin starts to teach the air kids better stances for fighting while they’re in the south for recovery and Ikki starts up with Aunt Lin then they all join in.
HC: Lin wears readers and especially starts needing them after B2
HC: Lin is the only one Rohan will Always listen to.
And ONE
BONUS SAD HC
(So y’all know I’m not feeling sick lmao)
HC: Lin was in the process of painting a family portrait of Tenzin Pema and the kids when she was killed. It’s their clothes and a little bit of Rohan that’s noticeably unfinished but Tenzin hangs it up at ATI anyway, cherishing her work.

A list of all my AUs
Inferno's Embrace - Canon divergence, Azula was badly injured and loses connection with her bending. Following that she unwillingly gets help from the Gaang & Co.
This is a story about reconciliation, acceptance, redemption and recovery.
Aged up, Azutara enemies to lovers + a lovely slow burn (it's not a taunting slow burn, more of a cute build-up and discovery of oneself). Probably as canon as any of my AU's go. Darker and adult themes.
Avatar Azula - Canon divergence, the Avatar spirit has reincarnated into the Princess of the Fire Nation. And with Sozin's comet approaching and with prophecy deeply severed. Azula has to make the right decisions with the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Aged up, Azutara frenemies to lovers. Similar world-building to 'Inferno's Embrace'. Darker and adult themes
Descendants - Azula was born in the Fire Nation (a country that has been locked away). And in the last 2 decades, The Isle and the Fire Nation were trading buddies. (That is how the VKs knew the FN kids)
Katara is from the South Pole but goes to school in Auradon.
Azutara, slice of life, with quite a lot of fluff, and a pinch of angst for any Isle backstory. World-building goes crazy in this AU. And any existing character will probably get a redesign and will be rewritten (Princess + Villains)
Malevie + and probably any other existing canon ship

The Gaang - Africa and Europe
For some reason, DeviantArt is really not working on my desktop, so I’ll just be uploading here for a while.
Anyway, Someone else’s fan art inspired me to experiment with a reinterpretation of Avatar: The Last Airbender. What if the creators had drawn the bulk of their inspiration from Africa/Austronesia or from Europe? This is the start of what I came up with (I also have Suki in the works and may include the Order of the White Lotus at a later time).
I kept the characters’ associated colors and identifying features as much as I could, for familiarity’s sake.
Aang
The inspiration for African Aang is drawn from the Malagasy people–specifically from the Merina and Betsileo peoples of the highlands of Madagascar. His outfit is inspired by a folk band that represented the closest thing I could find to 19th century Malagasy semi-formal dress. The Malagasies originated in Austronesia, sharing a genetic and linguistic ancestry with the peoples of Indonesia, Australia and Melanesia. Since the Austronesian peoples were historically nomadic to varying degrees (island hopping, after all), I thought it would be appropriate to make Aang Malagasy. Madagascar is also strongly influenced by bloodlines from both India and mainland Africa. Actually, they have a disproportionate number of beautiful people, imo, with some of the most contagious smiles in the world.
Somewhat similar is the European version of Aang, whom I have made Romani. The Roma are originally descended from people groups of northern India, and are traditionally nomadic. Their connection to India–the Himalayan region in particular–and nomadic roots made the Roma the perfect inspiration for a European version of Aang. Like the Air Nomads, the Roma were subject to genocides that attempted to eradicate them. Today, they are still one of the most discriminated against ethnic groups in Europe. They also suffer subtle but notable discrimination in the US.
Sokka and Katara
I drew my inspiration for these two from Melanesia–especially the Solomon Islands–and Australia. Because Sokka couldn’t be without his boomerang. Melanesia is tucked right up in between Micronesia, Indonesia and Polynesia. The Pacific Islands in general were influential on the worldbuilding for the Water Tribes, so Melanesia was a natural choice for recreating waterbenders in this re-imagining. Sokka does not always wear Aboriginal body paint. I just wanted to show what it looks like when he does put it on.
European Sokka and Katara are inspired by the Sami people of northern Scandinavia and Russia–the same people who inspired both Kristoff and the Northuldra people of the Frozen franchise. There is some Norse influence as well, particularly in Sokka’s choice of weapons. If I draw Pakku at a later date, he will be more heavily influenced by Norse culture. Of this set, I am least satisfied with Sami Katara. Her eye got screwed up in the inking process, so I attempted to fix it in Photoshop, with mixed results. It still bugs me.
Toph
For Toph and Zuko’s African designs, I drew inspiration from some of the wealthiest areas in Africa in the 19th century. For Toph I chose Ethiopia, which by that point was very heavily influenced by both Middle Eastern and European fashion. Toph’s travel and fighting outfit therefore didn’t go through an extensive redesign.
European Toph comes from a traditional Austrian-style family. She probably borrowed the dress from a servant’s daughter, and keeps it hitched up for freedom of movement. Out of all these characters, I think Austrian Toph looks the most anime. More anime, ironically, than she does when I draw her in her original Asian design.
Zuko
For African Zuko, I chose Mali to inspire his redesign. Mali was once the most powerful empire in sub-Saharan Africa, and was an extremely valuable trade partner for Europe, Northern Africa and the Middle East. In the 19th century, military attire was influenced partially by Arab fashion and partly by standard African fashion of that region. I chose to draw Book 1 Zuko and Book 3 Zuko to get the broadest representation I could without drawing him half a dozen times–which I could easily do, as he goes through the most physical changes in the series. Tried to make the phoenix plume work; I couldn’t.
European Zuko had to be British. The British empire was at its height during the Victorian era. I referenced historical European martial arts (HEMA) for Zuko’s weapons. HEMA does not use dual swords. Instead, dual wielding is done with a rapier and a knife or dagger.

not to blog about atla on main but i really want to know how popular the Ember Island Players’ ‘The Boy in the Iceburg’ was in universe/in the fire nation.
for how many kids (and adults for that matter) was this play their only source of “in depth” knowledge on the gaang, beyond them just being enemies of the fire nation. my guess is that the play debuted maybe a month at most before Sozen’s Comet, which means it would be a very fresh memory for those who’ve seen it. and it was established that the play had a bit of a fan base (i.e. the kids cosplaying).
how many kids, who were too young to remember before Zuko was banished, had this play as their only real chance to “get to know” the traitorous exhiled prince Zuko, and then suddenly he’s their firelord. what about that one kid who told zuko his ‘zuko scar is on the wrong side’. do they ever realize they were talking to the actual prince/(now)firelord zuko? can you imagine finding out you told the current firelord that his completely genuine scar was on the wrong side of his face. i would never want to show my face again.

I just finished having my friend watch atla! Her interesting takes:
A lingering dislike of zuko, much to my dismay lolol
An intense hatred of momo, which cracks me up
Adores girlboss katara, which i wholeheartedly agree with
Sokka seemed to grow on her as well, though not as much as he did on me
Overall she said she enjoyed the show, and we're gonna start korra next time we hang out :)

Color in RWBY’s Designs
I’ve been trying to reblog this post for a good 10 minutes, and Tumblr just refuses to let me, and I don’t think I’m blocked, so @strqyr , have a reply
Tumblr media
...
Okay, ignoring the out-of-left-field (hah) pivot to politics that cropped up in the comments -
I’m not an artist, but I do follow a few that discuss character design and have attempted some recolors myself, and when it comes to the various designs and colors of the RWBY girls, it’s not so much about the in-universe importance of color, it’s about the more meta principles of character design. Once again, I’m not the most qualified person to talk about this, so excuse me if I get something wrong or ramble.
In visual mediums, a character’s design, more specifically their silhouette and their colors, is what makes them stand out and memorable to an audience; in a lot of cartoons and anime, you’ll likely be able to recognize characters by their designs long before you remember their names, and even if you don’t know their names, seeing the silhouette or even color palette of that character can bring their image to your mind. For example, I haven’t seen an episode of Sailor Moon in my life, but show me Usagi’s silhouette, and I can tell you exactly who that is. I can show you this, and I would bet that 99% of you can tell me what character this is meant to represent despite it literally just being 5 rectangles.
Tumblr media
(On a slight tangent, in action shows, colors and the smart placement there-of are doubly important, as they help with keeping track of a character as they move through a cluttered environment and interact with other characters, and keep track of how they move their bodies in that space. To use a specific example from RWBY itself, check out the Nevermore fight from Volume 1 - despite all the debris flying around the screen and the amount of wide shots, it’s easy to keep track of how the characters move around the screen. Yang’s gauntlets help direct your eyes to her punches, and the splash of red in Weiss’s collar makes sure she doesn’t turn into a white blob moving around the screen.)
RWBY specifically is a show that quite literally advertised itself and its character on the premise of color. The show is named not just after the main characters, but the main characters’ colors. The first trailers were the Red, White, Black, and Yellow trailers. Their original designs, while of course using other colors in the palettes, give an overall impression of red, white, black, and yellow, making the characters pop against the stark black, red, and white backgrounds of the trailers, as well as stand out against the background characters that were literally empty black voids of silhouettes. Their initial character designs are tied completely to them representing a specific color, and this color gimmick also makes the girls stand out as characters. Ruby’s red cloak and ruffles, Weiss’s white side ponytail and dress, Blake’s black bow and tuxedo vest, and Yang’s fiery yellow hair and gauntlets are instantly recognizable from a glance, and that’s a sign of good design that makes them distinct.
So, when you get to the later volumes and suddenly the characters are wearing less and less of their original, iconic colors on top of getting new silhouettes, it makes them start looking less and less recognizable as the characters they were originally designed to be, and more like completely different characters. Lets look at Blake and Weiss as an example. If you’d never seen RWBY, could you tell me if these were the same characters?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Alright, let’s fill in the details.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They look like two completely different pairs of characters. It’s not even the clothes themselves, but the colors and shapes of their clothes combined with the radically different hairstyles make the V7 designs look very much unlike the original designs. The girls got alternate outfits in V2, but they all fit the general silhouettes and color schemes of their typical outfits, and were still very much recognizable as the main team, just with new clothes. Such a drastic shift in what types of clothes and the colors they wear in V7, on the other hand, makes them look like different character designs. If you’re going to change what a character is wearing to something very different, keeping the colors consistent helps with keeping them recognizable as the character they are.
Now, changing the design of your character beyond the specific clothes they wear isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Characters change as they progress through a story, and in visual media, changes to character design can be used to signify how they’re changing or how they’re reacting to their environment and new situations. For example, in the S2 premire of Avatar, Zuko cuts off his distinguishing topknot to represent his fall from a Fire Nation prince to an outlaw on the run, and in season 3, the GAang don red Fire Nation clothes as a disguise, ditching their usual blue, orange, and green clothing. In the Owl House, Amity dyes her hair purple to represent her making her own choices rather than letting her family control her life (and I picked this up from gif sets, without having even seen the show). Design changes, even to hair and color, can be used to represent change - and RWBY has managed to do this fairly well in the past! For example, Weiss’s V4 design is very different from her original design - her sleeves and collar are tight rather than poofy, her colors are muted and overrun with greys and blues, her whites are mostly hidden and her red is nowhere to be seen. This works, though, because it represents Weiss’s current situation - she’s being controlled by her father, her individuality represented by her whites and reds being driven out, and her dress is mostly tight against her wrists and neck, like shackles and being chocked. It’s a good way of showing a character’s changed situation, while keeping her recognizable from her side ponytail and poofy skirt remaining the same.
The latest redesigns of Team RWBY, however, don’t do this. They change radically, in color, hair, and clothing shape, and there’s no clear reason why. Why do they change how they look so drastically? What prompted them to style their hair so differently, to cut it so short? Why have they decided to choose different colors to wear? To circle back to the initial post, what part of their character development has changed them from the color they were representing to the color they’re now representing?
For more specific question/examples - what prompted Blake to cover herself in a heavy white coat in V4, when she was heading to a tropical island to recover? Why does she wear a bright white coat for official Huntress business when she’s meant to be a ninja? Why does she cut her hair so short? Why does Weiss cover herself in blues and greys in V7 when blues and greys were used to show her unhappiness and imprisonment by Jacques, rather than returning to lots of whites? Why does she go from a sleek ponytail to a thick heavy braid? Why does Ruby replace her cape and start styling her hair differently? Why does she go from a poofy skirt with ruffles to a very sleek, low volume skirt? Why does Yang not wear any yellow anymore? Why do none of them seem to wear anything suited for the cold? None of these questions have real answers. We can speculate all day, but at the end, that would still just be speculation.
Why does Lillie in Pokemon change her hair and clothes? To prove that she’s not just something for her mother to control and dress up to her ideal of beauty; that Lillie can make her own choices and is ready to stand on her own two feet and do what needs to be done, rather than relying on Repels and the player character.
Why does Blake cut her hair and start wearing so much white? ....
Why does Persona 5′s Akechi’s palette switch from bright white, reds, and golds to dark blacks and purples? To show the tearing down of the Detective Prince façade to the true darkness underneath.
Why does Weiss start wearing so many dark blues and greys? ....
I could go on, but I think I’ve made my point. Things just change on RWBY, key aspects of their designs like their hair and colors, and for the most part, there just seems to be no reason given to change. I’m not saying things like colors can never change, clearly they can, but for character design, especially in a show so heavily focused on colors and how characters are represented by their colors, it’s not a thing that should be taken lightly; if a character has grown so dramatically that the manner in which they express themselves as a character has changed, like the original poster is implying it can, it should be clear to see why this character has changed in this manner.
Without a good reason for it to change, it feels unnatural, like the character isn’t the same character - so when RWBY’s colors seem to be changing without good reason, creating designs that don’t look right for the character they’re meant to be in the situations they’re meant to be in, it causes people to want to revert back to the original palettes. Not because they’re denying individuality of the characters, but because the characters are no longer designed like the individuals they once were, and artists want to bring that individuality and striking design back through the use of the colors these characters use to define themselves.

hii!! i freaking LOVE your airbender oc >:( so here goes questions: does she have an animal companion? how skilled is she?? the survivor airbenders have a shelter/community??? SHE "LIKES" ZUKO????!! (i saw the tiktok) that's all for today, thanks 😙🍃
A HHH THANK U!!! My atla ocs have a special place in my heart uwu im probably going to redesign her a bit, since she was originally a self-insert but now she's more of a completely separate oc
B UT ANY WHOOO HERE WE GOOOOO
1. Sori doesn't have an animal companion because that's another thing to keep up with, she likes to travel light (but like post-defeating the firelord she definitely sneaks rides on Zuko's dragon)
2. I wouldn't say that the airbenders have much of a community post-fire nation attack? I think they're way more spread out, and less trusting because some of them have tried to sell each other out to the fire nation. Finding other airbenders in one place would be hella rare, let alone ones that will even admit that they are airbenders in the first place. (Like I headcanon that Tylee is an airbender, but her family had long since tried to cover up their heritage, so she doesn't even know)
3. She ran into Zuko and his uncle while they were on the run, so Sori is closer to them than she is the gaang, (at least at first, when she finally joins them tho her and sokka immediately vibe since they both have a dry sense of humor)
She likes to tease Zuko a lot since he's constantly taking himself so seriously, she wants to see him loosen up a lil, ya know?
She also takes a lot of issue with his lack of self worth, like the moment she finds out about how he got his scar she is ready to throw hands. She sees a lot of herself in Zuko's struggles with his identity, so she wants to help him with that. But she sucks at taking her own advice when it comes to that kinda stuff, and is pretty evasive when it comes to sorting out her own shit.
As for her liking zuko? I think she might have had a crush at one point, but a certain waterbender oc that I have might have caught her eye 👀👀👀
O H AND 4. BECAUSE I COMPLETELY MISSED THE HOW SKILLED IS SHE QUESTION
I'd say she's got alot of raw talent. She grew up teaching herself airbending, rather than having any elder monks or a community of airbenders to learn from.
Her airbending style has way more offensive elements to it than defensive, since she's had to really fight to stay alive for most of her life. Sori is more willing to do harm with her airbending than Aang would. Like Aang usually fights to subdue, while Sori fights to survive, and if that means severely injuring someone? She'll do what she feels she has to.
