Today, I decided to put the classic Sonic characters into a Robin Hood-like approach !

If I had to rewrite the character, I'd make Sonic a commoner who, after trying a career as a courier, saw his world invaded and practically annexed by the terrible Lord Robotnik. Rebellious at heart, Sonic will launch an active resistance by stealing the Robotnik's wealth to redistribute them to the Mobians (inhabitants of Mobius). All while remaining impertinent and distant but nevertheless faithful to his companions.

If I had to rewrite the character, I'd make our little fox a young scientist who uses his monk friends'books to develop new substances and technologies. But Robotnik's invasion pushes Mobian scholars to hide their knowledge before it gets destroyed, frustrating Tails into joining the resistance to have access to all the resources he wants. In doing so, he'll meet Sonic and co and realize that the fight goes beyond his own person.

If I had to rewrite the character, Knuckles would be another commoner who'd have lost almost everything in Robotnik's invasion. And to overcome his frustration, he explodes everything bearing the oppressor's symbol. Until Sonic rings his bells enough to decide him to join the resistance and use his super-force more intelligently.

If I had to rewrite the character, I'd like to make Amy the daughter of mobian nobility. She hates that her relatives funds Robotnik and let him destroy their land to preserve their little comfort. Inspired by the rumors about the resistance, especially their blue arrow, she secretly joins them as a spy while arranging to join them on the ground as needed, with her all-fashion piko-piko hammer.

If I had to rewrite the character, I'd like to make Robotnik a tech advanced invader endowed with means with blurred limits, who maintains his wealth by controlling nobilty via taxes and the threat of ending like the poor (aka transformed into robot slaves for ever without any possibility of coming back). At least, he could rule in peace without this damned resistance and this damn hyper-active hedgehog that galvanizes them.

We're nearing the end of a new year, school is out and it's freezing outside. So it's time to snuggle up under the covers with a nice hot drink and watch a Christmas movie. Let's leave the romantic comedies and time-travelling ghosts behind for now; this year, we're gonna crack some nuts !

In my pitch, Clara received a music box and a hairclip from the Uncle Drosselmeyer, an old family friend who seemed to have travelled all around the world. What she doesn't know is that Drosselmeyer comes from a magical clockpunk world that was invaded by the Mice directed by their King Tiberius IV. When she sees that her uncle and his Nutcracker aren't what they seems to be, she follows them in their world to search the Sugar Plum Fairy, who's the only one who can stop the Mouse King. During her travel, she'd learn to take other people's opinions into account and be more compassionate towards them.

In my adaptation of the story, Theo Drosselmeyer would be the nephew of Drosselmeyer, the royal clockmaker who found a way to travel between worlds. Alas, the Mice took over the kingdom by stealing most of the citizens' True Names, which changed their nature, memories and identities. If no one finds the Sugar Plum Fairy by the next Blue Moon, it will be impossible to give the citizens their True Names back. As they embark Clara, a Stranger, in their quest, her music box may be the key to freeing the kingdom…

In my imaginary scenario, the previous Mouse Queen had tried to bring her kingdom to live in peace with the Toy Kingdom and had therefore entrusted her son Tiberius' education to the Sugar Plum Fairy, who lives in seclusion. The little rat (I mean, oversized mouse) learned the power of Names there and used it to take over the Toy Kingdom by stealing the inhabitants'memories, identities and nature. Only the Fairy can break the spell, but if she does not do so before the next Blue Moon, then it will become permanent and Tiberius will be the kingdom's absolute master forever.

If I had to pitch a reboot of "Jonny Quest", I think I would do a semi-serial progression with solo episodes as a set up until concluding each season with a big story as a pay-off. And the first adventure would be the search for the truth behind Rachel Quest's the disappearance. (what ? "DuckTales" 2017 ? I don't know what you're talking about)

In my new pitch, I think I'd keep Jonny as a streetsmart brat who tends to follow his father in his expeditions. He doesn't remember much about his mother except what Benton and Bannon told him about her. He doesn't like to show it, but he deeply misses her and some episodes would be an opportunity to show him more vulnerable.

In my imaginary pitch, Dr. Benton was indeed a government agent who went freelance after getting married. But during a case shortly after Jonny was born, Rachel disappeared and was declared dead. Benton tried to raise their son away from adventure and danger, but their family's good old strangeness got in the way and they've been traveling around the world every 4 days ever since. As the story progresses and revelations are unfold, Benton would become more honest with his sons and complete his grieving.

I had the idea that Bannon was a former foreign agent who was competing with Dr. Benton. Until the day the latter and Rachel saved his life during a complicated case. To thank them, he joined their ranks and their team. When Rachel disappeared, he helped Benton with little Jonny until he became a second father to him and later Hadji. Proeficient in close-combat and weapon use, he's more serene than Benton when their boys follow them or go on adventures on their own. Even if he also has his wolf dad side who' will do a'll go full John Wick onto anyone who dares hurting his family. (And no, I don't know if I'd let him being related to Jessie)

I imagined Hadji as an orphan living off small tricks and scams for tourists. He has actual powers (more like telepathy, slight premonition and receptive/projective empathy), but refuses to use them out of misunderstanding and fear of ostracism. As in the original series, he would be adopted by the Quest and would participate in the adventures. This would allow him to gradually accept his powers until he completely masters them.

Say… would you do it ? If you were given the mean to permanently get rid of an insurmountable obstacle, would you take it ? Even if it came at the highest possible price ? And what does it say about you if you’re willing to destroy a life for your own comfort ? These are the classic questions you’d expect from stories about deals with the devil. And one of the most iconic deals of the 2000s is the one with the Hell Girl.

Ai Enma, the Hell Girl

Unlike the original Ai whose strangeness comes from her lack of reaction; I decided to base my Ai's strangeness on inappropriate reactions. Kinda like Lacie Baskerville in "Pandora Hearts" if you've read the manga up to her appearance. If I had the opportunity to rewrite the story, I wouldn't have made Ai a human who damned herself out of revenge, but rather a creation from the Master of Hell to harvest the souls of mortals filled with hatred. Except that by dint of rubbing shoulders with us even for short intervals, she ended up developing a twisted and slightly sadistic personality, especially when she sees that her targets have well deserved their dark fate. But she would also show compassion on several occasions, even more so when her victims have done nothing to end up in hell. But she has no choice, she must fulfill the role granted to her by her creator. Until he decides to get rid of her, or she decides to rebel.

Wanyūdo, the 1st Assistant

In my new version, I think I'll add a small, medium, and large-scale fire control power to him. After all, it's a good addition for a demon that looks like a fire wheel. Other than that, I don't think I'd change his backstory or personality. Wanyūdo as he is in the original is already a pretty good character and I'm not sure what else I could bring to him. Maybe an obsession with road safety, as a former wrecked carriage wheel.

Ichimokuren, the All-Seeing Blade

In my rewrite, Ren can change parts of his body into razor-sharp blades (much like the weipons in "Soul Eater"). Except the more he transforms, the more he loses consciousness so he usually avoids doing it completely. He'd be the one who most easily manages to mingle with mortals -ironic for an object that has become alive. So yes, he still has trouble understanding their emotions, but he manages to take good care of their customers. Despite Wanyūdo's remonstrances who believes that their group should not get carried away by their personal interests. He'd also have a rather mischievous brother-sister relationship with Ai.

Hone Onna, the Bone Woman

I wanted to give her a greater use of her bones. She can actually make them come out of her skin at will and use them as weapons with more or less long range; kinda like Kimimaro in "Naruto". In my new version of the scenario, Hone Onna would be a vengeful spirit who specializes in tormenting people who mistreat women and children. So yes, bad parents and femicides, she is the one who'll take care of your case when karma catches up with you.

For the ones going back to school/work, here's some chill chara-redesign of 3 pop culture swordpeople : Lion-O of the ThunderCats, Link the Hero of Hyrule and Oscar François of Jarjayes, from "The Rose of Versailles".

Inspired by the prompt lists from (in order) NoodleKing, Faith Schaffer and WynautWarrior.

Lion-O, inspired by the "Mystic" prompt by Noodle King in 2021 and the jaguarians from the french comic "The Legendaries". He uses his compass embedded in his sword to find and bring other jaguarians back home before humans ensalve them.

Link, inspired by the "Electric" prompt by Faith Schaffer in 2020 and the movie "Tron Legacy". One antivirus agent among others, he suddenly obtains the item "Master Sword" and uses it to fight the Ganon virus and save the virtual world of Hyrule.

Oscar François of Jarjayes, inspired by the prompt "Flower" by WynautWarrior in 2022. Armed with her thorn rapier, she does justice under the mask of the Versailles' Rose.

Among Nelvana's numerous productions and co-productions, not all of them have great ambitions in their animation and/or storytelling quality. And we can see that with our topic : "Mysticons" !

Notable changes : -each Mysticon obtains a spirit that they can fuse with and becomes their weapons; the girls can talk with their spirits by telepathy and once they obtains their own Codex part, the spirits can become their mount (the spirits have their original griffin mounts'names) -Em's totem becomes the Griffin; because given her connection with them in the original series, I think it's a waste that they're not her mystic animal -Zarya's totem becomes the Unicorn; because a wolf is pretty bland among a dragon, a unicorn and a phoenix (she also changes her surname to fit my rewrite) -their masks are not just accessories, they magically alter how people sees them, making them impossible to recognize unless being already in the secret.

Arkayna Goodfey, Mysticon Dragon Mage

In my new scenario, I'd like to make Arkayna even more proud, dignified in her role as princess but also vain and selfish. By becoming a Mysticon with Izzie and regularly heabutting with Zarya, she'd become aware of the world's realities and be more empathetic towards others.

Emerald "Em" Goldenbraid, Mysticon Griffin Knight

In my rewrite, Em wouldn't just be the protagonist's chubby self-effacing best friend. She would also be a huge craftmagic geek, namely the art of making magical objects or weapons (think artificers in D&D). Indeed, she's capable of making useful tinkering projects, repairing damaged devices and seeks to unlock the secret of her own blade's steel. But her passivity and shyness prevent her from truly expressing her talent and passion as she'd like to. Maybe with Topaz, things could change.

Zarya Moonstrike, Mysticon Unicorn Ranger

For my rewrite of the scenario, I don't really know if I'd keep the revelation of Zarya's original backstory (that I won't tell here because SPOILERS). But I'd like to keep her headbutting with Arkayna as much as possible. Which would contrast with their respective spirit who get along very well. I would also make her a gang leader who makes sure that other kids from the slums don't fall into serious crime. Piper would be her second in command, the idea being that they'd be too dependent on each other and would need to distance themselves in order to grow healthily.

Piper Willowbrook, Mysticon Phoenix Striker

In my new version of the scenario, I want to make Piper even more attached to Zarya and her abandonment issues more heavy. As the plot progresses, she'd learn to confide her fears to her friends and become more independent.

Today, I'll work on a series that you may have not known but still has its impact on french sci-fi worlds : "Skyland" in a Ghibli-esque style !

My new pitch : Centuries ago, scientists found a way to sent and preserve pieces of lands in the skies to escape a mysterious cataclysm. What we now call Skyland is separated from Earth by an impenetrable Sea of Clouds. Centuries later, as a tyranical consortium named the Sphere took control over water ressources and forcibly enlists people with strange powers called Seijins, most of people considers Earth a legend. When Mahad and Lena Farell gets on the bad end of the Sphere, they have to flee and get themselves searching for the legendary Angkor Block which would allow to cross the Sea of ​​Clouds and finally touch dry land. Will they get here before being captured by Oslo, leader of the Sphere's Guardians ?

In my revision, Mahad and Lena would be orphans who survive on small deliveries between the different sectors of the Babylonia Block. Even though he dreams of becoming a rich and famous pilot, he can't get himself to leave his little sister behind. When Lena's powers are discovered by the Sphere, they have to flee and find themselves searching for the Angkor Block which would allow them to cross the Sea of ​​Clouds and finally touch dry land. Over the course of the story, Mahad would evolve from the sassy and oblivious little jerk to a more mature and thoughtful young adult who would let his sister stand on her own two feet.

In my rewrite, Seijins are mages capable of contacting spirits (presented here as little glowing lights) and using them to influence the world. But they're mainly under the control of the Sphere which "disposes" of any dissidents. When Lena Farrell accidentally demonstrates her powers, she and her brother Mahad find themselves involved in the resistance to find the legendary Angkor Block and open the passage to the Sea of ​​Clouds. Over the course of the story, Lena will become more assertive, less dependent on Mahad and will gain greater control over her powers.

My version of Oslo will be a high-ranking Sphere officer, specialist in spirits' corruption and manipulation, responsible for tracking down Seijins not yet enlisted and implementing the fascist demands of his superiors. Well aware that the Sphere must be dissolved, Oslo seeks to gain not only power but also influence and information on the legendary Angkor Block. And he believes that young Lena Farrell, who has developed powers beyond normal, is the key to Skyland's freedom. But his noble goal is tainted by monstrous acts and far too costly in the long run sacrifices.

For the first of my new Redesign series, I'll be working on a series that I wouldn't have thought I'd deal with but which kinda provoked me with its season 7. The face of French animation in the 2000s, of pseudo-girl power facade and weird fetishism : “Totally Spies!”

If I could rewrite the story, I'd give an actual age difference to the girls. I know it's more convenient for the series that they'd be in the same class, but I'm partly basing their characterization on their presumed maturity. So it's simpler with a one year gap between the three of them.

I'd also take a "Kim Possible"-like approach, with heroines who are freelance vigilantes in the open and whom individuals can contact to save the situation. Jerry would act as their manager, filters requests and ensures that the missions do not interfere too much with their studies.

If I could rewrite the character, Sam would be both the team's leader/mom and Q. She's the one who "tinkers" all the iconic gadgets in the series. And she is very proud of her babies, especially her mini-drone assistant, EK-0. She nonetheless remains experienced in combat and manages to defend herself well. My version of Sam would have trouble understanding emotions (both her own and others) but always has the best intentions.

Hates : her work being destroyed, poorly-made forgeries, abusive clients, meat, Mandy, people messing with her hair

Even if I remind you that being interested in fashion is not a fault, it's not enough to give personality to a character. So even though my Clover carefully follows her favorite designers' latest collections, she'd prefers to feel comfortable and tends to dress in a slightly original way. She's the costume designer for their high school drama club, the disguises for their missions, and the expert in document forgery. It was also she who developed their spy outfits with Sam's technological contribution. To finish on her personality, I want to make my Clover less "unbearable princess". I know it can be a character's strength to be so imperfect, but in the episodes themselves, it's just annoying. My Clover likes to help others feel good about themselves and sometimes that means to change some parts of their wardrobe.

If I could rewrite the character, Alex would be the actual baby of the bunch (even though she doesn't like being babied). She would be a real powerhouse who participates in almost every high school sport. But also the 2nd best in biology after Sam because she wants to become a veterinarian - or a keeper in a zoo, she doesn't know yet. On missions, she is the most athletic of the trio and the one who knows best how to survive in the wilderness. She also serves as a model for Clover and a test subject for some of Sam's gadgets. But more than anything, it's her good humor which manages to make the trio a united group which cand overcome any criminal.
