I agree with these points and I want to highlight them.

I thought my attention was failing because I wasn’t strong enough as an individual and because I had been taken over by my phone. I went into a spiral of negative thoughts, reproaching myself. I’d say – you’re weak, you’re lazy, you’re not disciplined enough. I thought the solution was obvious: be more disciplined, and banish your phone.

When the godson used his phone during the trip, the author freaked out. But never did the author ask his godson what he was doing with his phone, just rawr phone bad you're an addict rawr! What if the godson was taking photos of the trip to share with his friends later? As much as phones can ruin lives, a smartphone is also a tool that can be used to make life better.

It is true that we need to fight for a right to disconnect. It's unacceptable that your boss thinks you can be contacted at all hours for a not on-call job. And we need to fight the dark patterns in phone games and social media, etc.

But, geez, the author should be embarrassed by his behavior. He was chastising complete strangers for merely privately marveling at the cool tour guide tech at Graceland. Complete strangers who were having their own conversation! And he butts in!!! To whine about all this technology!!! And he retells it like some sort of heroic moment. The poor godson must have been so embarrassed.

And I dunno if I can emphasize this enough, but his godson had an interest in Elvis when he was nine, and he asked if they could go to Graceland together when he was nine. The author didn't decide to take his godson to Graceland until he was nineteen. And he was expecting the same amount of excitement and enthusiasm?? Maybe the godson doesn't actually care about Elvis anymore. Maybe you should have taken him on this trip when it was actually relevant. Maybe you missed your chance to have a fun vacation with your godson when it mattered, and now you're blaming phones.

Disco trolls headcanon yapping

So, this line in Trolls: World Tour has always kinda bothered me and basically made me spiral one night watching it. How would Branch, a Pop troll who by all accounts is only learning about the other genres in the last 24 hours, know that Disco is an outdated/extinct genre? This is probably just a throwaway line to make the disco is dead joke. but............

Unless, of course, Pop trolls DO know about Disco trolls, and that they are now an extinct genre. Maybe because... For what they know, all that remains of the "disco" trolls have been living amongst them all along

Basically my headcanon boils down to Glitter trolls are Disco trolls that over time have literally been stripped of their genre.

Disco trolls would have left with the Pop trolls after the strings were divided (i like to think that unbeknownst to anyone their own String is hidden in the harp itself, which the pop trolls have, so they're compelled to follow). When the Bergens arrived at the troll tree, the Disco trolls began being picked off at a way faster rate than pop trolls (shiny shiny), establishing Bergentown's very 70s/disco aesthetic as they built their troll-eating society, while subsequently Disco trolls "losing" their own genre due to overconsumption. Eventually, while at the tree they develop the ability to have the iconic glitter farts as a defensive measure, and onwards they become known as Glitter trolls ✨

i decided to turn the toe beans of several sprunkis into footprint silhouettes to add to the challenge. it was supposed to be a simple guessing game for y'all but i later turned this idea into a sentry duty minigame concept inspired by my fav game (pmd2) so here's both from me hyee!!

this is so silly and out of character but im wicked and re-animator fixated rn so hear me out! (this would be maybe 2005 bc thats when the tour began. also danbert is already dating)

what if au where herbert is a very very closeted musical theater kid (idk i just think he would be)

and i think dan listens to whatever's popular so he listens to the wicked cast album and was surprised to really like it! then he hears that they're performing at a local theater or something so he drags herbert with him and herbert ofc bitches the whole way there about how this will be a "trite stage production" but then he stays silent for the show bc he's not an asshole daniel he knows proper theater etiquette.

intermission comes after defying gravity and herbert is actually very moved but won't admit that to dan when he asks how herbert is liking the show.

act 2 begins and herbert starts to see himself in the character of elphaba, always the odd one out, outcasted for being different, going against whats normal/good... i imagine he claps out of respect at the end of each song but after no good deed he claps very loudly and very fast bc hes excited! and dan smiles a little at him and then herbert plays it off as "just showing proper theater etiquette"

and then for good happens and herbert actually cries. not a lot but he does, dan notices and reaches over to squeeze his hand just as glinda and elphaba hug for the last time on stage, herbert locks eyes with dan and then turns his attention back to the show.

after the finale and the cast comes out for bows herbert gives a standing ovation for glinda and elphaba and woops a little (dan looks at him fondly and herbert doesn't make eye contact/denies he did this later)

and then when the show officially ends dan asks herbert if he liked it and that he hopes he's not mad at him for being dragged to a "trite stage production" and then herbert surprises dan by taking his hand and sheepishly admitting that it wasnt trite and that he loves him.

dan beams the whole drive home and herbert doesn't let him let go of his hand :-)

Tagged by the ever-lovely @ghostoffuturespast (read her answers here and give her works some love!).

Words I had to play with were quiet, sound, dark, and here. Three of these passages were picked from published work and 1 was picked from a WIP.

Quiet

The quiet pulls taut like a rubber band— first person to let go gets snapped. His foot thumps the pavement, a tic only found in musicians and people with more words than they know to use, but V continues to hold her tongue. She's waited roughly eight hours for this; she figures she can wait a little bit more.

Sound

The record spins a few times, searching aimlessly for sound. Then, as though awakening from the deepest slumber imaginable, it crackles to life: "Lost another day, to pointless drudgery…the slow chippin' away, of my autonomy…" It's about what V imagined out of a bootleg Samurai tape. The audio sounds like it's been ground through a woodchipper, music hardly hearable at times over the rowdy crowd they're playing for, and it's not helped by the fact that no one in the band sounds the least bit cohesive together. This is a recording from one of their many spur-of-the-moment reunion concerts in the 2010s, meaning everyone is playing this version of Buck Ravers to their own beat— both metaphorically and very literally. Henry struggles to match the others' tempo, Nancy hits a few errant keys here and there; even the usually steadfast Kerry is somewhat rusty, V wincing whenever she hears a note that's a bit too high or a touch too flat. The only one who doesn't miss a single step is Johnny. He screams every word into the mic as if it's holy gospel, feeding off the will of the crowd as they preach his lyrics right back to the pulpit. The collective energy reaches such an insane fever pitch that Johnny seems to singlehandedly drag the rest of the band back towards coherency, and by the time their opener wraps up, all five of them've fallen back into their familiar sync.

Dark

Night descends upon the city the same way it always does— abruptly and silently, the quick puff of air that blows out the candle. V's got a decent stretch of the 101 to herself now. She's parked off on the side of the road, weight propped against the seat of the Kusanagi, her back to the NC skyline in favor of studying the assortment of oil wells and pump jacks just beyond the chain link fence she'd stopped in front of. The sky above V's head is a blank black slate, no chalk-white stars shining or bleary-eyed satellites blinking through the clouds. Out here, it's just her, a red bike, and thousand little flames burning in the dark.

It’s stupid to say, it’s so fucking stupid to say, but V can’t stop herself, “Guess I meant…I-I dunno, a…a h-happier ending? For everyone involved?” Johnny only turns away, his expression clouded. “We were born under bad signs, kid,” he quietly reminds her. “Happy endings? Here, for folks like us? Wrong city, wrong people.”

Step by step playback for a dilemma I’ve made for myself!

1) I want to reblog a fandom meme post and go to add a few tags for it.

2) Realize right when I start adding tags the post mentions root beer which gives me Thoughts and a free trip down memory lane

3) I’m typing but I’m mentally not there. I’m checked out. Possessed by a version of me long gone though the feelings (apparently) still remain.

4) Regain awareness to find I added so many tags. I stopped myself from adding more but I could have kept going. I’m ranting/monologuing. I’m telling a memory from my childhood. I’m (over?)sharing my complex feelings on root beer and that it’ll inevitably be part of my downfall

5) Look back at the original post and realize most tags people have added were just fandom or character tags.

6) Anxiety kicks in - should I still post it? If I reblog it, not only would I have the most tags - I’d also be going off on a tangent that’s not even related to the fandom. It’s sitting in my drafts but I can’t muster the strength to delete it for some reason

7) Make a post about the situation I’ve created in my head in hopes it’ll help me decide what to do
