reminder that percy's rebellious nature. often linked to the lack of restraint he inherits from his father. could also derive from the abusive and toxic environments he grew up in. and him undermining the authoritative rule of the adults in his life was likely a defense mechanism. because it was the only thing he could control when every aspects of his life felt like someone was plotting his downfall. so.

arthur (prince of camelot) still has to study under a tutor bc yknow uther wants him to be very intelligent before becoming king or something bc its super important idk idc anyways merlin is doing chores in his chambers while arthur is squinting at a book and merlin eventually caves and asks him what he’s reading and arthur gruffly explains that its a collection of stories from greece that make absolutely no sense so merlin asks him to read them outloud to him. arthur of course teases him and calls him an idiot and asks how he could possibly help but does as he’s asked and reads the stories to merlin as he does his chores. merlin (being crushed under the weight of destiny and tormented by the prophecies that kilgharrah spews) understands the stories almost immediately and gets all excited and starts rambling about them with arthur. arthur is glad to have someone who understands so he can give something that reflects a hint of understanding to his tutor who accepts it and moves onto the next unit of education.

the thing is, arthur finds more stories in camelot’s library and brings them up to his room to read them aloud to merlin under the guise of completing his studies but really he just wants to watch as merlin’s eyes gleam when he understands whats happening and listen to him ramble on and on about them bc he’s gay. the stories stick with merlin though and he realizes that they’re cautionary tales, that the heroes who were told too much of their future doomed themself to fulfill them - that them fighting the prophecies led to their completion. merlin takes it to heart and gives a big “fuck you” to kilgharrah before forging his own fate and helping morgana with her magic and handing out an olive branch to mordred and now everyone can live happily and peacefully in an albion teeming with magic.

just imagine them being back in gravity falls again for the summer after a year and having breakfast at the diner and lazy susan is just gonna shamelessly call him handsome and flirt with him even more cuz hes the big hero who saved the town, stan laughing it up and being all flirty back with her but like obviously dying inside while ford's bending utensils, ripping the diner cushions leather and crushing the menu watching them trying not to explode.

when they get their food stan is just trying to avoid eye contact with everyone and eat but ford wont fucking let him. he'd sneak his hand under the table to rile stan up while glaring at susan whos just back at work living her best life and stan is stuffing his mouth to drown out all the moans from ford jerking him off lmfao

lucanis truly has a near terminal case of burned out golden child syndrome. caterina fucked both of these kids over so incredibly bad with the dynamic she enforced there, with illario being labled the perpetual fuckup kid where lucanis 'could do no (would never be allowed to do) wrong'. the way he admits in the first coffee date scene that the only thing that happened when he showed he could carry the weight of expectation was that more weight was added makes me so sad. you can hear it in caterina's voice in his intro mission that she's incredibly proud of him, but this is clearly a leandra and hawke situation where that pride never translates into relief or resolution or unconditional warmth or understanding or anything that really helps.

as much as I agree that jihl should've been a more major antagonist and had more time to shine, I really don't think she should've been the main antagonist purely because of how ffxiii criticizes the church specifically

having some old white dude like the pope dysley treat her, a woman in his command with great potential to take his place and who gave her all to serve the sanctum, like she's nothing to him and striking her down when he deems she's served her purpose to him is, in a fucked up way, fitting when you consider how the church has and continues to abuse women in favor of uplifting the patriarchy

final fantasy definitely needs more female villains, just not when the organization it's critiquing has historically been led by men. sadistic as she was, jihl was being used by the sanctum no less than cid raines and yaag rosch were (it's something all of them have in common as minor antagonists), she just wasn't given the same afterthought by the game fsr
