Not to be an idiot but why is Trump pushing for a ceasefire? I don't understand. Isn't the US arms sector raking it in hand over fist? and arn't poor muslims of colour the US's favourite target? What am I missing?

it has very little to do with anything about trump other than 'not being biden' -- for a long time now, a lot of the more pragmatic bloodless security state ghouls have wanted a ceasefire in gaza, because netanyahu is getting the usa mired in a forever war that's more expensive than it's worth and actively deleterious to their alliances with egypt and the gulf states, as the populations of those countries grow more and more agitated against their (us-friendly, israel-friendly) governments the longer this mass broadcast slaughter goes on.

however the biden white house has been for some time now exerting heavy-handed top-down influence over the state department to keep the war going against the advice of many of their own foreign policy guys because by all accounts biden and his allies have a genuine ideological commitment to zionism far beyond its utility to the imperial project. it's not too surprising that a replacement without this diehard ideological commitment would seek a ceasefire, because it's absolutely the correct choice for the longevity of us empire.
