Bungou Stray Dogs: Dead Apple and how “ability users” (opposite to “normal people”) learning to accept themselves through the acceptance of their own abilities is a queer metaphor of acceptance of own's sexual orientation and gender: an essay by me
#bsd#bungou stray dogs#About: Dead Apple. Watched this a while ago with a friend and it was a lot of fun!!!#If you're reading this: thank you so much for hanging out with me I had such a good time (ㅅ´ ˘ )♡#Next to general considerations: wow they were right that Bungou Stray Dogs movie sure can Bungou Stray Dogs#It's always nice to see the detailed animation and elaborate backgrounds of movies. The animation quality compared to the manga is–#definitely noticeable and it's nice to see. That said... I still like the season 2 art style more? And I'm speaking strictly of art style.#The s2 one looks more soft and smooth while the da one is so much more rough.#The plot is... Very bsd-esque I don't think there's anything to add.#In my opinion Kyouka's arc is the one that turned out best tbh. I really like her narrative development and personal growth in this movie.#I like the complexity of her state of mind. how full of contradiction she is. I especially appreciate the recurring small changes of–#expression that indicate how she thinks differently from Atsushi even if she doesn't voice them. The fight between her cynicism and her–#kind nature. It's all very interesting.#Atsushi's development is interesting too. Although all the open questions about his ability we still have kind of leave me frustrated#I don't feel very strongly about Akutagawa in this movie? I mean‚ he's there. The ss/kk scenes are always great and in character and a joy–#to witness no matter what they do. He just doesn't shine particularly? Or at least personally I dont find the “proving my strength against–#myself” narrative arc to be particularly interesting. Imo it was a lot better flashed out in the da stage play! With the complexity that–#the dialogues with Chuuya added to the character. Dazai attacking him. And especially Aktgw understanding that Rashomon wasn't testing Aktg#but rather only expressing that unstoppable rage that is also Aktgw's own. About that I checked out the play and I really liked it!!#I only watched highlights (aka: ss/kk and chuu/aku scenes) but there's some stuff I really like. I like the conflict between Aktgw and–#Chuuya and how Chuuya messes up with Aktgw at first maliciously and then amiably. It's interesting how Atsushi himself observes that Kyouka#and Akutagawa get along. And especially the sskk almost-handholding and Atsushi saying Akutagawa has a nice profile were cute akjdhbsawhjb#Next. Da really is shipping paradise (╥﹏╥) Sorry but... It is. oda/zai. daz/atsu. ss/kk. s/kk. fuku/mori. chuu/aku. It really has everythin#and the moments are so good!!!! What else. Wish we'd see more of Tsujimura. And Christie. And women in general tbh.#Also‚‚‚‚‚ Atsushi's tiger form in this movie is ATROCIOUS. I've said it before but it's crazy how a franchises that relies so heavily on–#fanservice came up with something this hideous. Man the movie overall was pretty but Atsushi sure wasn't. Firmly stand by the belief–#that only Akutagawa would find that form attractive.#Oh last note. honestly if we're ready to accept a movie where an antidote has effect AFTER the person has effectively died then we really–#can't complain about any kind of insanity the manga brings up#random rambles

Did y'all guys notice that if you listen to the BSD endings of Season 1, 2 and 3, these all are a lot like letters from one character to another.
For example,
Season 1 Bsd ending - Namae wo Yobu yo - if you were to listen to the lyrics (or read them), it totally looks like a letter or a dialogue or maybe a 'thank you' note from Atsushi to Dazai.
Similarly,
Season 2 Bsd ending - Kaze ga Fuku Machi - This most definitely feels like something Dazai would say to Odasaku. Coz it was bcoz of Odasaku, Dazai had made it into the light. The lyrics fit!!!! Like seriously!!
And, Season 3 Bsd ending - Lily - It's definitely Akutagawa speaking to Dazai!!! There's even a line that translates in English as "I want to be praised, I want to be acknowledged"
Like honestly, this one series turned me completely crazy!! I've never obsessed over one story for to long but this is the only exception!!! Not to mention, how the season 5 ending, Kiseki, carries the words from all the previous endings (S1 - S4)
The last stanza -
Boku no machi ni saita - Ending 2, Kaze ga Fuku Machi
Hana o kaze ga yurashita - Ending 3, (this I'm not sure, but maybe from Lily)
Namae o yonde kureta - Ending 1, Namae wo yobu yo
Sore ga boku no shirushi da - Ending 4, Shirushi
Like idk what I'm even supposed to say but this is an absolute masterpiece!!!

Aya might be part of the next generation of Sokuku
TW/CW for Mentioned mental and physical abuse
okay hear me out! The sokuku line as I’ve been calling it consists of Fukuzawa-Mori
Dazai-Chūya
Atsushi-Akutagawa
So who will be next?
I think Aya and another new character/maybe a pre existing one. Take another look at the Sokuku line. Mori mentored Dazai (And Chyūa to some extent I think?) who in turn Mentored Akutagawa and Atsushi both are yet to mentor anybody*
If we take this into consideration this shows a pattern of Sokuku gifted (yes I'm calling them that because I have no other name for it) mentoring each other. Now we do know that Sokuku is probably pretty rare of an ability, (and its more of a power enhancer than its own stand alone ability) so it makes sense that the former sokuku member(s) might be (Unintentionally or Intentionally) seeking out the next in the line. Now we still don't know who came before Fuku and Mori, and how they met, but the sokuku line sets a clear pattern of how the members meet their mentors/mentees, all (Except Chūya) mentors met their mentees who were either starving, in severe pain, or had some sort of issue. Think about how Akutagawa met Aya. Bram died infront of Aya, and for her the world is ending due to Amenogozen. Aya is saved by Aku and is presumably going to be taken in by him. Why do I point this out? Because Aya might be next in line for Sokuku, if Aku mentors Aya the cycle will continue. Also if this happens we could see Aku stoping the line abuse on his side! The idea of Aya having an ability is great, but there is one twist idea to this, what if instead of staying with the ADA, Aya stayed with the Port under Aku’s care. Aya was entrusted to Aku by Bram, and as much as I love Kunikidad I don’t think he’s who Aya will end up staying with. Another thing to note is Aya was also abused physically and verbally by her father (and maybe her mother idk) but point is that almost all Sokuku users have come from Abuse or abusive places. Their pain and repressed emotions, I think may tie into how powerful their abilities are. I think this is enough evidence to safely say that Aya might be next in line for Sokuku!
now remember the asterisk I put after I said that Atsushi and Aku don’t have apprentices, well that was partially untrue, Aku and Atsushi kind of both mentored Kyouka a little, Atsushi more but Aku did do something. Why is Kyouka important now? Well she could also be next in line for Sokuku, Kyouka lived with the port (which was extremely abusive) for at least a few months, and was found by Atsushi/maybe Aku before Atsushi. Kyouka matches a lot of the criteria and the patterns that previous Sokuku gens had.
Now to address the idea that we might have a new character brought in for Sokuku. This would/could make sense, but with the massive cast BSD already boasts I really hope two already introduced characters get Sokuku.
This is all to say that I think Kyouka or a new character and Aya may be the next Sokuku generation, with Aku mentoring Aya, and Atsushi mentoring Kyouka or a new Charcter.

BSD episode Preview Spoilers (?)
I just saw the new episode preview and never in my life had i thought that i would breakdown a 30 seconds clip to an extent of deriving a theory out of it…. But hear me out!!!
The sword that Fukuzawa oh so dashingly pulled out of his own body is the time-space sword - the one weapon that had saved Fukuchi's ass all this while (the solid plot-armour he banked on) - that is now in Fukuzawa's hands!!!
What i'm trying to say is, Fukuzawa can end this whole fight by killing Fukuchi from the past and it would resolve this whole fight!!!
These few seconds cued me in for that:
Fukuzawa clearly intended to deal a killing blow to Fukuchi then and there, but then he was surprised for a split second… his focus was shaken there when he was supposed to finish the swing and end it there…
And then we see the flashback of the two fuku's younger days
There surely must be some mechanism behind the Time-space sword. Maybe for the wielder the time stops and then they can access to the past and all the future outcomes and then make the optimal choice, like Alcott's ability but not needing to be in a closed room.
If this actually happens, the whole fight up to this point can be reversed by strategically putting the sword in the past to either stop an event or to kill Fukuchi earlier only. Though i wonder if that could cause a problem since Fukuchi would have the sword in past
But the possibility of this happening is high because that's what Fukuchi did in the very first fight with Akutagawa and Atsushi, where they had almost won but were defeated by the ability of the sword…
The restriction of till what time in past can the sword go or how much distance the space aspect could cover would build the story from then on…
But this would be enough to end this season on a uphill note if not completely resolve this conflict…
Any thoughts?

Natsume, Mori, and the Cycle of Succession
What if Natsume was to Mori as Mori was to Dazai?
In Chapter 50, it shows how Mori and Fuku met. Fuku remarks that he is starting to establish the ADA, meaning (according to the events of Untold Origins) Fuku and Natsume had only recently met. It can be assumed that Natsume had known Mori prior to meeting Fukuzawa, since he knows the location of Mori’s clinic and goes out of his way to make sure Mori is safe.
Later in the chapter, Mori explains that he is part of the Tripartite Tactic. This not only further pushes the idea that Natsume knew Mori before he knew Fuku, but also brings in how Mori actually became Mafia Boss - it was Natsume’s plan.
When Mori explains he is involved in the plan, Fuku reacts in shock. The Tripartite Tactic has three branches, the government, the ADA, and the Mafia. Fuku assumably knows Taneda due to the fact they are both government workers. This means that if Taneda runs the government branch, and Fuku is supposed to run the ADA branch, that leaves one last branch for Mori to run. Basically, Fuku has a surprised expression because Mori must overtake the Mafia to become part of the tactic.
Asagiri is a huge fan of parallelism in his work. The best example is the three “soukokus” - Natsume put together Fuku and Mori, Mori put together Dazai and Chuuya, Dazai put together Akutagawa and Atsushi. As all the partnerships go, it is created by the mentor. Mori guided Dazai into “darkness”, as did Dazai to Akutagawa. Perhaps as Natsume did, guiding Mori to take over the Port Mafia. Natsume might have taken Mori under his wing after seeing how cunning he was in the army.
However, I think it would be even more interesting if Natsume worked with Mori to get his “immortal regiment” passed by the government. Natsume is a government worker/has influence over the government (I’m not sure which one), so it would make sense if that was how Mori got people on board to steal a whole child (Yosano). Mori was only 26 at the time, and (from what is currently known) did not become a street doctor/information broker until after the war had ended. From what is shown, Yosano was living a pretty standard life before she was enlisted, and her ability was unknown to most. How would Mori know about this young ability user that worked at a confectionery store? It starts to add up when Natsume is included into the equation - he is described as omniscient. Perhaps it was Natsume that led Mori to Yosano. (I wanted to add preemptively that none of this is meant to undermine the abuse Yosano faced from Mori - he put her through hell and back.)
I’m not saying that Natsume was abusive to Mori in the same manner that Mori was to Dazai or Dazai was to Aku, but Natsume is definitely still very cunning. In Untold Origins, he feigns getting capture - putting a child (14 year old Ranpo) in immediate danger to produce the results he wants (Fuku & Ranpo working together). He definitely has the same “end justifies the means” view as Mori. I certainly believe that Natsume has had a very large impact on Mori, which is why Mori holds Natsume in such a high regard.
This is all just theory and speculation. I’m probably looking into all of this waaaay too deep, but hey - thats mental illness baby!

based for asking fukuzawa to adopt everyone in the mafia.... he's so Dad
so father coded. boom, helps Q with their ability, chuuya with corruption, makes kouyou feel safe and let her guard down, helps akutagawa see his own worth and feel safe, JUST to mention a few things
whats a few more kids when you already have like 12? single (widowed) dad fuku for the win
Exactly! The Mafia is so full of traumatised kids/orphans. I'm sure even Koyo would like him. Fukuzawa is so father -coded. And God knows how much those "kids" need a responsible father figure

BSD! OC! Ayato Satoshi |P4
-
Fyodor's assassination plan involves using his classmates 'trust of Koro-sensei to save them' against him
First using kaede as a 'hostage' using a 'KS'-gun self modified for a real bullet, while subtlety threatening his ability (which his classmates don't know about)
Without hesitation, he pulls the trigger and simultaneously trys to touch her only for Koro-sensei to swap her with a tentacle
This continues for the rest of the day with him unknowingly trying to use his ability on his classmates
As earlier preparation, he had gradually gotten more touchy with them, to the point where it was even routine
Nagisa even went full into it, constantly being physical with Fyodor
Some of them are even in on it for a cut of the money, as Fyodor doesn't really want it at first
(Later on, he uses it to fund his organization)
If anyone's asks how he does it, he'd say he melted down the Anti-Koro-sensei material into a thin paste which he submerged his hands in daily like hand cream
(He still did this but uses it as an excuse even if it doesn't work)
This is also used to wash his hair
-
His weapon in the Junior High Exams is a spear
During the Gifted War, the fight against Kamui is replaced with Nagisa
Cognitive! Punishment looks like the dead apple version without the gem
His 'Fyodor outfit' is just his PJs, though his blanket is used for his original Hinata outfit
Even though it irritates his eyes, he wears Purple eye contacts as Dostoevsky. His natural color is Maroon
His Shadow's right hand has the Ability gem, though he often hides it under a projection
His mutated form would be a giant rat with butterfly wings, he'd even wear his treasure in the boss fight
Despite the difference in appearance of his Shadow and Ability, Punishment is simply an 'Astral Projection' of his Soul/Shadow, which is why his Shadow has a physical form and yet Punishment does not
As Brazhnik, the Butterfly Miraculous is worn under his shirt, the one on the outside is a mimic/fake
Despite having a similar grandiose love language as Dostoevsky, he greatly prefers simple yet meaningful things in return
-
When 3-E were using Koro-sensei's pool, he asked his classmates if he could borrow a spare swim top, as he is uncomfortable bare chest
He also refuses to use the pool and says he can't swim, however Koro-sensei tries to encourage him but stops after Fyodor's fear response at the pools edge
This is because of when he was repeatedly dunked into his Church's Baptism pool to 'purify his curse'
He can hold his breath for a decent amount of time because of this
-
When he originally ran away from home, he was still in his indoor outfit but put on his cardigan because of the winter's cold
During the war, Fuku was murdered by Punishment in front of Yozo, under Fyodor's orders to break him
He used her death to show Crime and Punishment's true nature
If he awakened to a Persona, it would be the same as Adrik's, yet he would be a Navigator with Brazhnik's mask
(Boss fight/Passive)

I keep thinking about that moment when Akutagawa called Atsushi "stupid".
"Stupid" which could be changed to "Idiot" and then translated to "Baka" in the anime (I'm not sure. For the sake of this post, just think about it).
So, one thought led to another:
In the aftermath of the Dracula virus, the ex-infected Port Mafia members are resting in a large infirmary. It's open for the ADA to enter and leave freely, since the building was damaged in the battle and no one wanted to cover up the huge hole in the wall. Yosano was also needed there to help tend to the wounded and check the conditions of the cured mafiosos, and she refused to do so without a member of the Agency at her side.
Akutagawa was the first to wake, which was surprising since he was turned first. He felt well-rested, like he never had before. He was always pushing himself to the limits after all, just to gain his approval. He did not have time for relaxing activities, and the only reason he slept at all was because his sister was a terrifying force of nature when she was worried.
Gin! Akutagawa immediately sat up, concern for his sister bubbling up. Vague memories of her at his side surfaced, her face contorted unnaturally in a way that sent chills down his spine from just remembering. His sister wasn't supposed to look like that. She looked terrifying at work, but at home, where it was just the two of them, the soft kindness on her face spoke louder than her pretty voice.
He was ready to bolt up from the bed to see her, when a familiar boy stepped into view.
Jinko looked exhausted at first. There were bags under his eyes, and some of the naivety in them that Akutagawa first found revolting was gone. He looked like he'd been through hell. He's starting to look like me.
When their gazes met, the relief that spread across the younger's face surprised him. It was quickly covered up as Jinko walked forward, but he could still see traces of it in the golden hue of his eyes.
"You're awake," Jinko breathed.
"Naturally. What did you expect?" Akutagawa replied, raising an eyebrow.
Jinko looked annoyed at first, then amused, and then he snorted. "I'm-I'm not sure, but, uh, are you–pfft–raising an eyebrow right now?"
Akutagawa immediately activated Rashoumon, the black demonic cloth piercing the ground beside Jinko. To his satisfaction, a brief squeak left Jinko's mouth as he stepped away.
Didn't I give away my coat?
Akutagawa's eyes widened as he reached behind his shoulder to grasp at the familiar leather. He had only just realized the coat was there, the familiar weight of it as natural as... well, not breathing, but maybe the constant ache of his lungs.
Which, now that he thought about it, was gone.
His hand trailed down to his chest, gripping the front of his shirt as he took in the first deep breath of his life without feeling the rattle in his lungs and the strong urge to cough. The feeling was so foreign, so nice, but strange, all the same, and for one bizarre moment, he wished he had his sickness back. Then, he realized he didn't have to die.
He didn't have to die anymore.
He didn't have to leave Gin, and Higuchi, and Tachihara, and Hirotsu-san, and Chuuya-san.
He didn't have to die.
"The Dracula virus, when it revived you, seemed to have fixed your lung problem," Jinko explained as he took a seat next to him. "When Yosano-sensei healed you, the effects stayed."
Akutagawa couldn't speak for a shock-filled minute. When he recovered, he turned to Jinko.
"Where is my sister?" He asked sharply. Funny, how he hadn't noticed the change in his voice before.
He realized that Jinko probably didn't know he had a sister, and opened his mouth to clarify, when Jinko snapped his fingers.
"Oh! Gin-san! Don't worry, she's here. She's just asleep," he said in a reassuring tone. "She and the others are recovering quickly. Yosano-sensei said they might wake up later in the day."
The relief of knowing his sister and his friends are all safe drowned out the strong urge to ask him how he knew Gin was his sister.
They sat in silence for a moment. Akutagawa was never good at small talk, but he could feel the tension hanging between them. The last time they had seen each other, Akutagawa been speaking through the pain in his throat, telling him to save himself. Jinko had reached out to save him, a fruitless act, but the honest concern and fear for his life had left him feeling... somewhat satisfied. Because Jinko was good, and kind, and the light that so many others seemed to rally behind and follow, and it both pleased and scared him somehow that his kindness extended to him.
"You know," Jinko started, "your last words were pretty dramatic."
Akutagawa scowled at him. "What do you mean, dramatic?" He ignored the shakiness of Jinko's voice when he said last words.
"'Idiot. Hurry up and go'," Jinko recited. The words sounded as if they were spoken more than once. Akutagawa decided not to think about the implication behind that.
"Well, you are stupid," Akutagawa said bluntly. Jinko rolled his eyes.
"How many days has it been?" Akutagawa asked.
"Three days since the last fight," Jinko answered. "Unfortunately, Fuck-you—I mean, Fukuchi escaped, but now that the Hunting Dogs are helping us, we might be able to corner him soon."
Discontentment, frustration, and anger rose up within him. That bastard isn't dead yet? And why were those Hunting Dogs helping them?
"To be honest, they aren't so bad," Jinko said. "They were just doing their jobs, after all, and Tecchou-san and Teruko-san were actually pretty nice, if you ignore Teruko-san's ranting about how she'll rip out the tendons of the rest of the Decay of Angels. Jouno-san, though, he apologized once, to both Yosano and Kunikida, then decided he was too good for any of us to speak with him. Only Dazai-san seemed to be the one getting through to him, honestly."
Tecchou? Teruko? Jouno? Who the hell were they?
"Dazai-san is back?" Akutagawa asked, shocked. He decided to ask about the other three later.
"Yes. His charges were mysteriously dropped, and now he's been pestering Jouno-san about the Hunting Dogs' methods for an hour now. Tecchou-san says he's impressed at how Jouno-san managed to keep himself from shooting him." Jinko sighed in a world-weary way.
After a long silence, Jinko spoke up again. "My name is Nakajima Atsushi."
Akutagawa blinked. "You have an actual name?"
Jinko looked irritated. "Of course I have an actual name! Did you really think I was named Jinko at the orphanage?!"
Akutagawa nodded. "Fine. You have a name. But, unless you defeat me in our battle a few months from now, I will refer to you as Jinko."
"Don't."
"Nakajinko Atsushi, then."
"I–No!"
Just then, a hilarious thought crossed Akutagawa's mind.
"Bakajinko Atsushi."
"I'm going to kill you."
"Been there, done that."

Tis I, here to assist with in thou battle against inspiration block! HCs for Aku, Sushi, Ango, Fuku, and Kuni w/ a gf that edits pictures as a side job & gets a new program. She asks them to take a photo with her to practice & get used to it. 5 minutes later she’s laughing uncontrollably, wheezing “I’m sorry wrong button” & when they look at her screen it’s the pic she just took but it’s utterly distorted and in inverse colors.
[Hello, noble sir/ma’am/entity. Thank you so much for the assistance thou has provideth in my quest, im eternally grateful although being a lit student, I must say it should be ‘thy battle’ instead of ‘thou’ asfhgk sorry i couldn’t stop myself xD]
Ryuunosuke Akutagawa:
“Test it on something else.”
“Come on, Aku ~ Please? Be a supportive boyfriend!”
He scoffs at first, but doesn’t last long in front of your pleading face, and you silently to yourself, because ‘holy shit, I just got the silent rabid dog of the mafia to do my bidding!’
It’s just a selfie you quickly take with him on your phone, but it will do. Though, looking at it, you realize he didn’t give you much to work with, with that deadpan expression and all.
“Are you done yet?”
“Patience. And I thought you weren’t interested?”
He growls and mumbles something unintelligible under his breath, and averts his eyes. You just stifle a laugh.
You were almost done, and confidently hit one of the shortcut keys on your keyboard, seconds before realizing that you had yet to program and define them. Naturally, the result was something quite unexpected.
He comes back into the room on hearing you dissolve into fits of laughter, and asks you what’s wrong. Not being able to stop laughing long enough to even reply, you just point to the screen and continue to shake. He looks at the screen, and then back at you with the most ‘done’ expression on his face.
“I’m…pfft – sorry, I, haha, I hit the wrong key!” And you continue laugh. Because there on the screen was Akutagawa, except with a fish-eyed effect that made him look ridiculous.
“That’s…that’s not what I look like.”
“Are you suuure –“ you begin slyly, but he gives you one look that makes you laugh even harder and you raise your hands in mock surrender, “Alright, fine, fine!! I’ll delete it! …Maybe I should try giving you eyebrows next time.”
“Absolutely not!”
Atsushi Nakajima:
“Of course, I’ll help you! Here, hand me the phone.”
And he clicks a picture of the two of you, him behind you smiling brightly and you doing a victory sign.
It comes out so perfect that you almost don’t feel like even touching it.
“Damn, Atsushi, how are you so good at everything?”
“Not as good as you. Now work your magic.”
So, when five minutes later, he comes back to find you dissolving into peals of laughter and almost falling off your chair in the process, he is…confused, to say the least.
“Is…something wrong with the photograph? Did I make a mistak – oh.”
The picture displayed on the screen had completely inverse colors, and while you both looked ridiculous in it, Atsushi looked especially striking.
“I hit the wrong button by mistake, but pfft, by God, it’s the best thing I’ve ever done!” you say between fits of laughter, “Just look at you!”
He rolls his eyes in pretended annoyance, “Shut up, it isn’t even – stop laughing!”
“I physically cannot!”
It’s quite a few minutes later that you calm down enough to be able to form coherent sentences. “You know, black hair kind of suits you. You should think of dying it sometime”
“Yeah, right…” he says sarcastically, but then looks like he’s actually giving it some thought, and you dissolve into laughter again.
Sakaguchi Ango:
“I haven’t slept in days, (y/n), I’m not sure if I’m the best person to model for you.”
“Come on, Ango, it’s not fashion show. I just need to test out this software. Now, come here.”
The photo came out fine, although, true to what he said, he did look a little pale and haggard, with slight shadows under his eyes. You frown when you look at that. You really wish he would get some rest.
When you hit a particular key, though, you had not been expecting that to happen.
Ango sees you shaking with laughter and shake his head, “What’s wrong? Do I really look that ridiculous?”
You shake your head, not being able to speak due to the laughter. Instead, you just point to the screen, and he comes over to take a look. On the screen, there’s the photo you just took of the two of you, except your faces are elongated, making you look more like slabs than human beings.
He gives you a deadpan look, but then fails to suppress his own laughter. “Just…how?”
“I pressed the wrong shortcut key by mistake.” You say in between bouts of more laughter, “But I do not regret a thing!”
He shakes his head and smiles, “Nicely done. I seriously wonder sometimes how you still have a job.”
