OK not to Foxpost on main but as much as I appreciate the trope of the coruscant guard being like woefully underfunded and undersupported by the senate because they’re “not front line troops” and therefore “don’t need things like bacta or rations etc” and like I get where you’re coming from, but like…. they may not be on the front line but they are the most significant and final line of defense for the capital of the republic and more specifically the senate, who — and I cannot stress this enough — are the people who decide whether or not the coruscant guard gets money. The corries do the work of cops AND the secret service, and maybe throw in the national guard — imagine if the united states defunded the cops (seriously, imagine…), specifically all the cops that work in DC, AND the secret service because oh they’re purely concerned with domestic affairs and the security of the most essential elements of our republic, they don’t need resources. You’re talking about fucking upside down banana world and certainly not about the political priorities of a fading republic succumbing to nationalism, militarism, and fascism.
If I were a late era galactic senator, I would have funding the coruscant guard as my top fucking priority. I’d be signing off on building fucking cop city overtop of coruscant’s last nature reserve, i’d be giving them experimental bazookas and tanks and shit up the wazoo. Twelve types of alien police dog and two models from Space Boston Dynamics. Horses. Fox keeps trying to find a weapon they won’t finance for him and it’s not working, at this point he’s considering asking for a lightsaber just to see what happens. I’m not saying the coruscant guard should live in the lap of luxury or anything but they should probably have ample if not excessive access to the military resources they need to do their jobs — medical supplies, armaments, armor, etc. Because if politicians are one thing, that thing is interested above all in their own security, and the coruscant guard is literally their personal protective army, why would they not want their personal protective army to be well funded. “I’m chancellor palpatine and I’m going to deprive my slave gestapo of medical supplies so that their limbs fall off when they try to murder my enemies” come on man be serious.

It had been a busy day.
Part of it was Bail's own doing. He had needed something to distract himself from the ongoing investigation, so he had picked up all the work he had been putting aside during the past couple of weeks, and finally started to go through them. He was in the middle of going through the budget draft of ship manufacturing for Frigate-class ships, when the office's door's alarm lighted up.
Someone was trying to get in.
Emphasis on trying to get in. They weren't trying to break in, as Bail could see that they were trying to use their clearance on the door, but the reading kept being interrupted for some reason.
Bail frowned. He stood up and started to make his way towards the door, when the alarm shut down and the door slid open.
Fox all but stumbled in, his whole upper body pitching forwards as he moved, and he swayed still when he stopped and just stood there.
Bail was very thankful for having long legs, because he got to Fox with only a few quick strides, just in time when his swaying got worse and he started to list to the side, with his knees buckling. Bail managed to step to his side, so Fox would just easily fall towards him. He all but collapsed against Bail, his helmet diggin hard into Bail's chest as he let his head drop as well.
"Careful", Bail said, trying to take a batter hold of Fox, but as soon as Bail laid his hands on his back, Fox flinched and dug himself deeper against Bail. That was the last sign Bail needed to know that Fox was hurt.
When had this happened? Bail had not heard about any other operations where Fox would've been needed for the day, as they were busy with the attack on the Temple. Had something happened there? Bail had been under the impression that the situation was under control, and that there hadn't been any further attacks-
He could think about all of that a bit later.
"Fox?" He called. "Where does it hurt the most?"
Bail had learned to not simply ask if Fox was hurt, because almost every single time, if Fox just still had all of his limbs and his head attached to him, he would start to deny that he was injured in the first place, or insist that it was not, actually, even that bad. Fox did answer when asked what was exactly bothering him, even if he would try to downplay it anyway right after. At least it gave some sort of general direction for things.
Fox made an odd noise under his helmet, that almost didn't come out through the vocoders. It sounded almost like a whine.
"Head. Back. Arms. Hands. Legs", Fox muttered against Bail's chest. "Everywhere."
Alright, then. A little help, but a lot to be worried about.
"Alright", Bail breathed out. "Let's get you to sit down."
The few meters from the door to the office's couch took a lot longer than they usually did. Bail tried to keep most of Fox's weight on him, but it was still a struggle.
Bail couldn't understand how this had happened, and how any of the other Guards had not taken Fox back to the base immediately to be treated. They were all very protective of their Commander, and if they had been present, Bail knew that they would've taken action immediately, unless...they had not been there at all.
There was only one situation that Bail knew where Fox would be alone, that would end up like this.
The burning of anger lit up inside of him. Bail had never previously thought of himself using blackmail or any other unsavory methods like that, but even he had his limits. It was high time he started to weed out all the unsuitable people, who thought it was appropriate to treat the Guard how they liked.
But first, he needed to tend to Fox.
They got to the couch. Fox looked like he was ready to just fall onto it, which would most likely just aggravate everything more, so Bail had to very slowly and carefully put him down and arrange his body so it didn't look like it hurt too much.
"I'm going to take the helmet off", Bail informed him, before he reached for it and gently lifted it up.
Fox had mentioned head pain just before, and Bail could see why straight away. He had seen enough concussions to know what they looked like, and the way Fox's eyes were dark and could barely keep track of Bail, even though he was right in front of him, told enough.
Bail took in a deep breath and then took a better look of Fox as a whole.
Another immediately noticeable thing was his left arm. Fox was holding it close to his abdomen, and the commlink on his vambrace had an error-light on, as that entire piece of armor seemed to be slightly dented inwards. That explained why he had difficulties getting the door to read the clearance. It was either that the device didn't work properly, or Fox had difficulties keeping his arm still, or both, as Bail was already sure that the arm itself was also broken.
Bail glanced down, and held back a grimace and then a snarl. If the arm was probably broken, Fox's left leg definitely was, as the foot had rotated inside in a way that was clearly forced. No wonder he had been stumbling, with both the concussion and this.
Head, arms, hands, legs. Back.
The armor was not fastened properly, so Bail had an easier time getting it all of, even with Fox sitting up. He still ended up jostling him a little as he took off the backpiece, and every sharp breath Fox took in only served to fuel the anger more.
Bail carefully rolled the blacks up. He didn't need more than a peek to see the deeply darkened skin as bruises were already starting to form.
Bail never stopped to be both impressed and horrified of the way the clones were able to just push the pain aside. He almost hoped that some of it was because the concussion was making Fox confused enough to ignore some of it.
Bail tried to breathe in deep. He hoped it would've get the anger at bay for a moment longer.
It did, in a way. It pushed it down, but at the same time, gave it enough air to grow.
Fox looked at him then, his eyes wide, and even though Bail was almost scared to touch him, he had to. He needed to.
So he took Fox's face into his hands.
"What happened?" He asked, stroking his thumb over Fox's cheek.
Fox let out a wavering breath.
"I- we got a suspect brought in", Fox started, his voice stammering bit at the start. "She requested a visitor, a Jedi. It was- in her rights, so, we brought the Jedi in, and she- we saw though the monitor her strangling the suspect, so we took her in. We had to."
He sounded almost pleading at the end, for a reason Bail didn't yet understand.
"I know", Bail said. "I know, you were just doing your job."
Fox swallowed, and grimaced, pressing his eyes shut tight for a moment. Bail ran his thumb over Fox's cheek again, and Fox tilted his head more into the touch.
"I-" Fox started. "Admiral Tarkin told us that this was not a Jedi matter anymore, and we couldn't let anyone else in. He ordered us not to let anyone in. But then Skywalker came and wanted to go see her, and-"
He grimaced again, and Bail wondered if speaking was aggravating him. He started to lean forward, and Bail let him fall to him again, tucking him against him as gently as he could.
"What was Skywalker doing there?" Bail asked. He hadn't thought that the Jedi would put him out of all people to investigate a crime like this. Skywalker was a capable Jedi and a General, but what Bail knew about him, he was not the most experienced in situations like these.
"She's his Padawan", Fox said against Bail's shoulder.
"Tano?" Bail asked, perplexed. "You arrested Ahsoka Tano?"
Fox stiffened.
"We had her on camera", he said. "There was no one else in the room. We didn't hurt her, we just-"
"Of course you didn't hurt her", Bail hurried to say. There had been a desperate edge sneaking into Fox's voice just now. "I know that."
Bail had to admit that he didn't know Ahsoka Tano too well, but from the impression he had gotten, he wouldn't have suspected her first, at least not without any evidence.
Well, it seemed like there was evidence, wasn't there?
Fox's right hand closed around the front of Bail's shirt. Bail held him as tight as he could.
"I told Skywalker", Fox said. "I told him my orders. I told him. He didn't listen. He got in. Tarkin found out I failed. One of his guards kicked me down. I think I- I think I broke my foot more."
Bail frowned, something like dread starting to trickle in into the anger.
"More?" He asked.
Fox didn't answer. He just curled up against Bail, and Bail heard his breath hitch.
"Fox?" Bail pressed on. He had to know. "What do you mean by that?"
Fox pushed his forehead hard against Bail's shoulder.
"Skywalker didn't listen", he said. "He demanded to be let in. I told him no. He didn't listen, he forced himself in, I couldn't- Tarkin didn't listen when I told him-"
He stopped, and breathed, almost heaving.
"It hurts", he whispered. "Nobody listened to me. It hurts."
Bail held him as tight as he could, stared at the wall of his office, and saw red.
---
Bail got the recording of what had happened in less than an hour.
The Guard was very willing to give him anything he asked for. They had all seemed just as angry as Bail was, and has kept apologising over and over again, for letting this happen. For leaving Fox alone. It had been in between rotations, and Fox had taken it upon himself to watch the security point for that one moment. During that one moment, Skywalker had come in, and started to demand to be let in.
It wasn't their fault, and Bail said so every single time. Skywalker was a Jedi. The Guard should've been able to trust a Jedi not to hurt them.
Bail watched Skywalker and Fox talk. He watched how Skywalker got more and more upset with every single second. He watched how Skywalker lifted his hand and pointed it towards Fox on the other side of the security glass. He watched Fox tell Skywalker no.
He watched Skywalker threw his arm towards Fox. He watched as the whole panel around the glass bent and broke away, the glass shattering. He watched Fox being flung across the room and crashing hard against the far wall, shards of the glass raining all around him. He watched Skywalker not giving any of it a second look as he made his way inside.
He watched Fox lay there, dazed, before he rolled on his side and just managed to push himself up when two officer guards strolled in, with Tarkin soon following them.
He watched the guards kick Fox down and beat down on his already battered back one, two times, before the recording cut.
He couldn't stomach watching it for a second time.
There was a request to enter coming from he door. Bail pressed the door open.
Padmé stepped in, with a tight smile on her face.
"I'm sorry it took me a while to get here", she said, as she sat down on the chair on the other side of the desk. "Things have been...hectic."
"I can only imagine", Bail said.
The anger had stopped burning a long time ago, now. Now, Bail felt like ice.
He leveled Padmé a look.
"Anakin has had a hectic day as well", he said.
Padmé was an intelligent woman. Bail knew that she would be able to connect all the implications and come to a conclusion on her own.
She did, as the smile dropped away from her face.
"What happened?" She asked. "Did...did something happen at the prison?"
Bail almost had a feeling that she knew already, on some level.
"Yes", Bail said. "He attacked Fox when Fox didn't let him in."
Colour drained from Padmé's face. She opened her mouth, closed it, and hesitated for a moment before she opened it again.
"Is he alright?" She asked. The correct question for the situation.
"No", Bail answered bluntly. "No, he isn't. He got seriously injured by Anakin, and then injured further by Tarkin because somehow, an armed Jedi attacking him means that he failed to follow orders."
Padmé shook her head.
"I can't believe it", she said. "Are you sure-"
"It's on record", Bail said. "And before you mention it, yes, I am aware that Tano was innocent and framed. That didn't happen here."
Padmé didn't say anything to that, even though she looked like she very much wanted to.
Bail stood up.
"I asked you to come here as a courtesy", he said. Padmé blinked at him.
"Courtesy?" She asked. "For what?"
"I'm warning you in advance, because you are still my friend", Bail said. "I am reporting Skywalker to the Jedi council and asking them to demote him. He is not suitable to be a Jedi."
"Bail", Padmé said. "Can we talk about this-"
"We cannot", Bail interrupted her. "I am not going to let this happen again."
"It's not going to happen again!" Padmé stood up as well. "Anakin was just worried about Ahsoka. Bail, please."
"That doesn't give him the right!" Bail almost felt bad as Padmé flinched at his voice, but not quite. "I have kept your secrets, Padmé! I did that because you are my friend and I care about you, not because I wished to shield Skywalker!"
He went around the table and stood in front of her.
"He is going to face consequences for this", Bail said. "And you will not interfere with it. If you try to, my loyalty for you is over as well."
Padmé drew in a sharp breath.
"You wouldn't", she said.
"I would." Bail looked her straight into the eyes. "And I advice you to look hard at your choices. This meeting is now over. Leave my office."
He could see from her eyes that she understood him to be serious. Padmé walked out of the office without saying another word.
Bail stood there for a moment, before he took his commlink and his cape.
First, the Temple. Then, he was going to the Guard base to see Fox.

Fox's Wonderful Day (redux)
Corrie Week, Day 7: Free Space Fox Day
I'm going to be incredibly self-indulgent by reviving and expanding a cracky thing I wrote a few years ago.
-
It was Race Night in the lower levels, and Fox had deployed extra teams to keep watch in hopes of finally catching a break.
He hated Race Nights. Or, more specifically, he hated that the illegal podracing circuit seemed to have no regard for the safety of those around them.
It was one thing to put your own life in danger with stupid stunts and souped-up racers, but to put ordinary citizens at risk with dangerous speeds, illegal maneuvers, and no regard for public or personal property. Race Nights always saw an increase in injury reports and property damage. And, of course, there were all the connections between the racing circuit and some of the most unsavory criminal organizations on Coruscant. Fox was sick of it.
They were rarely able to net any leads, but this time, somehow, they caught a big one.
Nika Skye was one of the kings of the raceway. And one of the most dangerously reckless ones. Fox had a list of all the crimes that could be laid at Skye's feet. Even if he was never caught, even if none of the charges stuck, Fox still wanted that proof.
"Fox! Sir! I got 'im!"
Hound's voice crackled over the comm, followed by a vid clip of Skye arm-in-arm with a beautifully-dressed woman. Far too beautiful to be safe in that neighborhood.
Skye turned his head to smile at his girlfriend just as the lights of a passing speeder framed them.
Fox stared. He played back the clip. He played it again. He paused it just as the light fully revealed Skye's face. He grinned.
"Stay on them, Hound," he ordered. "Do NOT lose them! I'm on my way to you right now!"
He was already running out the door. Guardsmen flattened themselves against the wall as he passed, and he knew they'd be worried to see their Commander running, but explanations could wait. This was too big, too important for decorum.
Hound kept him updated as be broke a few speed rules of his own in order to catch up.
"Uh... sir?"
Dread curled in Fox's stomach at the Trooper's sudden reluctant tone.
"You didn't lose them, did you?"
"Oh, no sir," Hound reassured him. "It's just, uh... they've gone into the Nookie Nook."
Fox's grin grew even wider as he swung around a final turn, using signals and staying aware of everything and everyone around him.
The "Nookie Nook" was the unofficial name for one of the small, public gardens that were scattered through this sector of Coruscant. It was in slightly better shape than most and provided a little shelter for those seeking to get high... or those seeking a different kind of thrill.
The most important part of it was that it was a public garden. Coruscant had laws against public indecency. Very minor ones, for the most part, and as long as everything was consensual, the Guard was willing to turn a blind eye to a little bit of public sex, but not this time.
There was nowhere to park, of course, so Fox simply found an out-of-the-way spot, parked, and put his Guard placard in the window.
Hound was standing with his back to the entrance of the Nook, fidgeting. Grizzer sat beside him, but stood to wag her tail as Fox approached.
"They still in there?"
Grunts and moans answered him before Hound could.
"...Yessir."
"Don't worry, Hound, I've got this."
The tiniest of giggles escaped him. Hound froze.
"Uh? Are you- I mean, yessir!"
He stepped out of the way. Fox gave him a reassuring pat and moved in. He made sure his helmet was recording- for evidence- and then hit the lights on his helmet.
"Coruscant Guard! Come out with your hands up!"
Screaming. Swearing. The desperate rustle of clothing and displaced foliage.
"Go away!" an all-too-familiar voice snarled. "This is none of your business!"
"Public indecency is very much my business, sir." Fox struggled to keep his tone calm and bored. "Now, step out and prepare to be arrested!"
There was more arguing, of course, but eventually the couple stepped into full, inescapable view.
Anakin Skywalker looked furious and ready to strangle him. His girlfriend, Senator Amidala, at least had the decency to look mortified, trying to shield her face with one hand while the other kept her dress held in place.
"You can't do this to us!" Skywalker growled. "Do you know who I am?"
"Nika Skye," Fox answered. "Street racer responsible for multiple accidents, injuries, and property damage."
Nika Skye. Of all the stupid, ham-fisted aliases he could have picked... but then Fox hadn't really thought about it himself until he got a good look at him. The promo images and candids always showed him in his racing helmet. Ha. Apparently even an idiot could learn a thing or two from his betters. Wait til Rex found out.
Skywalker blinked, appearing caught off guard.
"Well, yeah! That!" he said. "Except I never hurt anyone! I'm just an ordinary citizen, enjoying a night out with my wife."
"We're so sorry for the trouble, Commander," Amidala said, voice dripping professional sincerity. "It won't happen again, I promise. If you'll just let us go-"
"I'm afraid I can't do that, ma'am," Fox said. He hoped the Jedi couldn't sense his glee. "Public indecency is a crime on Coruscant. And there's also the matter of Mr. Skye's multiple traffic violations, involvement in an illegal racing ring with ties to the Black Sun Syndicate-"
Amidala gasped. Skywalker just looked annoyed.
"-as well as damaged property, speeders, and personal injuries related to those traffic violations. Once we're back at the station, you'll be allowed to call an attorney."
"You won't take us in."
There was a pressure to Skywalker's words, an urge to obey, but Fox ignored it.
"We can also provide an attorney for you, if you don't have one of your own," he concluded. He was willing to bet that Amidala, at least, had a whole fleet of lawyers at her beck and call, and he knew the Jedi had some of their own as well.
"Did you hear me?" Skywalker's glare intensified. "I said you won't-"
"Come with us, sir. Quietly," Fox told him. "Resisting arrest will only make things worse." He reached for the binders on his belt.
"Ani." Amidala placed a hand on her boyfriend's arm, but he shook it off, still glaring.
"You'll regret this, Commander," he said. "I'll have your job for this."
Fox rolled his eyes. "Good luck with that, sir. I've been trying to get out of it since the war started."
He did, in fact, get to put binders on Skywalker, citing him as a flight risk. It was one of the greatest moments of his life.
Hound and Grizzer provided backup as they made their way back to the speeder.
"Are you sure about this, Fox?" Hound asked, as they headed back to headquarters. He'd twigged to Skye's true identity as well. "We could get in a lot of trouble for this."
"The Jedi aren't above the law," Fox told him. "And that goes double for Skywalker. Arrogant little shit has been a vibroblade in my side for too long. Flaunting the laws. Acting like he's better than us. Taking advantage of his 'friendship' with the Chancellor to make everything better for himself with no regard for anyone else-"
"Yeah, okay, I know," Hound interrupted. He shifted on the passenger seat, Grizzer in his lap. "But this is gonna bring in the Jedi-"
"I'm counting on that."
"And probably the Chancellor. Like you said, they're friends."
Fox paused. That was a big concern, and the only dark spot in this otherwise wonderful day.
"I'll handle it," he said. He was not giving up this chance for a little payback.
-
Skywalker's story changed as soon as they were in the Processing Room.
"Look, Commander, you really don't want to do this," he said. "I know the Guard doesn't see a lot of action here on Coruscant-"
The thunderous whoosh of indrawn breaths from the listening Guards drowned out his next words.
"...Anakin Skywalker."
Fox refused to rise to the insult Skywalker had carelessly flung at the Guard. Chances were he actually believed what he said.
"And yet your ID says you're Nika Skye."
That earned him another scowl. "Are we really going to play this game, Fox? I know you can't be that stupid."
Fox muted the general chatter feed. Guard opinion of Skywalker was mixed, but mostly positive bordering on indifferent. That was being revised downward fast.
"Lieutenant Rattle, add possession of false ID and lying to an officer of the law to the list of charges," Fox said.
"Mmm," Rattle murmured. Her hands shook more than usual as she added the charges.
"I OUTRANK YOU!" Skywalker roared, making everyone flinch.
Amidala, who'd been on a comm call, turned to look at him.
"It's okay, Ani, I'm handling it," she said.
"You may outrank me, General, but you don't outrank the law." Fox had taken an involuntary half-step back at Skywalker's outburst.
Skywalker closed his eyes and took a deep breath in an apparent effort to calm himself. When he looked at Fox again, his eyes were still bright with rage, but a smile was plastered across his face.
"At least let Pad- Senator Amidala go," he said. "She's an innocent in all of this."
Fox arched a brow, not that Skywalker could see it. Amidala was many things, but innocent wasn't one of them. She was in deep with Skywalker and his schemes, and was probably one of the reasons they hadn't caught him until now.
Still. She was a Senator, and that would be a whole political mess of its own. He tilted his helmet.
"She'll stay here until her security team arrives and then reassess," he said.
Skywalker huffed, rolling his eyes. "Finally! Some sense! I guess I'm so used to Rex-"
"Who's your emergency contact?" Fox interrupted.
"My what?" Skywalker's frown seemed more confused than angry this time.
"Who should we call at the Temple to alert them to your circumstances?"
It was like flipping a switch. Gone was Skywalker's arrogance and bluster. It was replaced with fear and anxiety.
"Oh, uh, that- that won't be necessary, right?"
He was looking anywhere but at Fox. Interesting.
"It's- it's High General Kenobi, sir," Rattle supplied.
Skywalker flinched. "Here?! He can't be! He's supposed to be in a meeting with the High Council!"
Fox's grin returned.
"Thanks, Rattle. I'll be sure to give him a call and let him know his former Padawan is safe."
And wouldn't that be a fun call. In a meeting with the other High Generals? And Fox could interrupt? The day kept getting better and better.
"Wait! No!"
"Burke, Boot, please escort General Skywalker to holding," he said. "We wouldn't want anything to happen to him before General Kenobi gets here."
"Sir!" They said in tandem, moving to herd the suddenly worried Skywalker to the cells.
"Commander Fox," Amidala said, holding the comm to her chest as she spoke. "I know we've caused unbearable upset for you and your Guard, but-"
"Senator Amidala, ma'am," he said. "You're free to leave once your security detail arrives. What you do to help your 'husband' after that is your business."
The already pale Amidala went chalk-white at his words. About the security detail? Or- shit. He'd thought Skywalker was bluffing about the wife thing. The Storms had truly blessed him on this day.
"Please," Amidala whispered, her eyes wide. "You can't tell-"
"If you'll excuse me, ma'am, I have a lot of work to do. Have a good night."
He dipped his head in acknowledgement and headed back to his office. There was so much to do and all of it was good. If there was a slight skip in his step as he walked, well, no one would believe it.

T, 21k, Wangxian
Summary: If it hadn’t been for Wangji’s definite preoccupation with that one particular guest disciple, Xichen might never have noticed the… discrepancies. Kay's comments: Was craving some slightly dark Lan Clan and revisted this story recently. I really loved the angle that something was clearly a little off with Wei Wuxian's education. He's a celestial fox, who should have been seen as a boon by the Jiangs and yet, something was wrong. Not friendly to the Jiangs and the Lans are darker, since they are dragons and give in to their hoarding instincts. Featuring a smitten Wangxian during the Cloud Recesses Study Arc. Also, really fun to have the story from Lan Xichen's POV! Excerpt: He bows to Xichen like they were equals, like they were both heirs to one of the major sects. When Wei Wuxian certainly isn’t. Come to think of it… Xichen tilts his head in thought. Wei Wuxian bows to Xichen just as Jiang Wanyin does, the exact same angle and depth and time holding the bow. Almost like Wei Wuxian might have copied said bow straight off his brother. Almost like he might not have been taught differently and was certainly never corrected in his behavior. It is at that point, after their first few interactions, a few conversations full of bright, genuine laughter and just slightly off manners, that Xichen starts noticing the discrepancies. The discrepancies of someone supposedly raised amongst gentry – alongside an heir to one of the major sects, no less – but who so clearly doesn’t have the expected ease of a firm and steady education, certainly not in regards to sect politics. It is something anyone of the main houses would be expected to know, but which Wei Wuxian simply doesn’t, committing faux-pas after faux-pas, though never grave enough to be confronted about it and also clearly without intent, but rather because he simply doesn’t seem to know better.

Small note: the ghostly trio used to be less friendly towards Casper, so Stretch (in my version Edward) in the cut line he expresses aggression towards Casper and his friends. Now Edward treats his nephew very well, but his friend Fox he treats very negatively. They have a feud. There are two more images of the other two uncles attacking Casper's friends. I didn't post them, because they don't fit into the new canon, and they are worse preserved, in my opinion.

I really need to go to sleep but I also really need to get this out of my mind
Force Ghost Fox, wandering around the Galaxy. His brothers cannot see him. There aren't left any people who could see him, anymore.
He visits Bail and Breha, too, and sits with them and wishes that he could reach out, that he could tell them that he is right there.
He watches their daughter as well. A cute, tiny little thing. He sits besides her cot at nights and hums at her, even though he knows she cannot hear him. He watches her sleep as he does so, and he wishes that she was his, too.
One night, she awakens, and her little face scrunches up like she's going to cry. Fox shushes her, out of instinct, no matter how little it will be of help-
She stops, and looks up, and Fox swears that she is looking straight at him.
No, no, she cannot be. He is just imagining it.
Then she smiles, and reaches towards Fox.
