So there's this Moment in the beginning of the Zimvoid arc where he's going on about how he's the only Irken to show up on Earth and when GIR is like 'but tak!!' he has zero recollection of who she is, which like. on balance I do enjoy, because much of the zatr/zatp appeal in my eyes is the coolest girl you know trying and failing to be the ultimate archnemesis of the most embarrassing candidate imaginable, and lacking object permanence wrt one of his most formidable enemies is a very Zimcore thing in general, but at the same time, in Tak's particular case I'm not so sure the characterization is accurate, based purely on the way he treats her in her one flagship episode.

For one thing, he refers to her by name—which wouldn't be all that notable, except in the grand scheme of things, Zim doesn't really address all that many people by name, enemy or otherwise. Granted, some of this is probably just that she's Irken, who all seem to get tiniest sliver more notice from Zim (if not exactly respect), but there's also a Tone to it—a certain je ne sais quoi in the way he tells her 'It's over, Tak!' that reminds me of the way he addresses Dib and the other rare enemies he views as adversaries rather than mere obstacles

Even more unusually, he actually acknowledges her skill and calls her good ('Not as a good as me—but still good!')*. This isn't ENTIRELY unprecedented, given that Zim does have a pattern of inflating the abilities of the people he's bested by in order to maintain his ego, but even still, it's not all that often he straight out comes and says that someone is a worthy adversary—even with Dib, this aspect of their dynamic is more of an implicit, obvious truth than something he'd ever articulate.

All of which is my long way of saying that Zim seems to have a surprising degree of respect for Tak, at least insofar as he can be said to have respect for anyone, which is... interesting. And definitely something I'll be thinking more about

* tangential addendum to this but I'm also reminded of the "you're a worse pilot than I am (wait...)" quip and the fact that makes out at least two occasions where he's directly compared her to himself. Hm!

phil has followed him on instagram since i wrote that paper—dnp saw pj's stage show that chris was in, phil followed chris again afterwards, and shortly after that was a day where chris was juggling oranges in an insta story with pj -> phil tried juggling oranges in his own insta story later the same day so like. i think there's a chance they're all on okay terms now.

ultimately i think being in the public eye is something that really hurt chris & like. i'm glad he and pj are still friends. and odds are we'll never know but i really hope there's been some kind of private reconnection there with dnp too.

i like the idea of shelby/otto for a lot of reasons (they’re hypercompetitive prodigies with similar senses of humour) but the main one is that i do think they just Get each other in a way the other core four pairings don’t. they’re selfish and ambitious and covetous and sometimes mean and so, so desperate to pretend that they don’t care what anyone else thinks of them; nero makes a point of asking otto what he really has to go back to in book 1, but the same applies to shelby. everything she has she’s built for herself. everything otto has he’s had to claw away from that unshakable truth that he was born with his fate already decided. they would never, ever last long term because i think they’d turn on each other in order to protect themselves, but equally i think they would always regret not giving things a go at least once. loving each other would never be enough. they’d always try too hard to hate each other.

mind you this is me having some fun BUT for loumandaniel, they're an important trio and louis tied daniel to their relationship. ive said it before but louis invests in people and investigative reporting was a burgeoning market in the 70s. so have loumandaniel become friends during that time instead which can tie into daniel and his reporting on the aids crisis with his two vampire friends/lovers. i reallyyy like the idea of them being involved during that time. i like 'armand/daniel started having an affair behind louis and alice's back' so the relationship did happen already. also controversial but the chase isn't that important where it resides in the book imo and they could move that to armand following daniel around on the vampire lestat tour post-turning instead. either way i think louis is a lot more involved in potential past dm since daniel's THEIR BOY yknow??

anddd that's been a theory that louis and armand are in amc's version of the loumand trinity gate era of the books. it follows louis' merrick arc that the show did in s2e5 ie louis heading towards healing which could account for the second interview. the show timeline can run wild since they have the full scope of the books whereas anne was still working that out. so yea, others have wondered if loumand didn't have a period of separation, got worse in each others absence, and came back together bc only "your kind can understand that loneliness (something armand tells lestat in 1790s paris). i agree since louis is heading towards letting his guilt go after dubai, which is said about his time in trinity gate.

I love shows written in 2007. where else am I going to start shipping two guys knowing full well it would never happen in canon but then see them KISS because one of them idiotically thought that exchanging saliva might cure a viral poison and it's played off as a comedic gag (because obviously they would never ACTUALLY kiss and they're both disgusted by this and that makes it funny) but regardless of mildly homophobic intentions the end result is still them kissing. you can't do that shit now, you have to either go all in on a gay relationship (which can be boring) or not go there at all (which can be disappointing) or else you get an uproar about queerbaiting. in this case I think maybe I would like to be baited.
