I hate the "as a girl whose grandmother was a slave, can I just say not cool?" line from hazel in moa it's the worst line of dialogue rick has written in his life. But like what the fuck. what kind of insane lore drop is that. hazel's grandmother was an enslaved woman. marie levesque cast a spell to meet the god of riches so that she could finally know what it was like to live beyond the indigence and suffering of her mother. marie wanted to be a queen, not a slave like her predecessors. she wanted pluto to give her all the riches beneath the earth

and then the earth enslaved her body. gaea possessed her and through gaea's influence marie forced hazel for six months to overexert herself to the point of collapsing to raise and reanimate alcyoneus. gaea worked hazel like a slave

it's so explicit here. this is SLAVERY. gaea was using hazel's forced labor for material wealth and power. she was only 13. her grandmother was used and her mother was used and hazel herself was used, they were black women exploited for what their bodies could provide in service to the hideous intentions of monsters in power over them. hazel broke free from the cycle and saved the world all by herself by choosing death - it was the only way out

and even in her second chance at life she's actively fighting to die again. she's an instrument of the gods being used to achieve an end that is supposed to kill her. she was convinced that freeing thanatos would result in him taking her life. she didn't know throughout hoo if her father would kill her when the main quest succeeded. even nico didn't think hazel was going to live. she didn't WANT to die a second time. but she fought for the world and for her friends anyway

by the end of marie's life she was only skin and bones. gaea used her body until she didn't need it anymore. marie was the daughter of an enslaved woman who dreamed of being a queen and instead the earth goddess robbed of her life and dignity. and her soul would have been tortured further in the fields of punishment if not for hazel's unfathomable selflessness and bravery to negotiate for mutual asphodel. hazel never even saw marie again after that. what was it that doomed the levesque family? that marie asked the god of death and riches for too much? she deserved even more than what she asked for. as much as I love batgirl 2024, I have to admit the lack of Barbara Gordon mentions in the whole series so far, especially with the first arc having such a big theme of motherhood/daughterhood and the things that comes with it, makes me soo sad. Barbara was the first person Cass actually considered as a mother! Barbara, although she wasn’t the best at it at first, truly did try to understand and love Cass unconditionally even when she was separated from the Bat mantle! And that panel where Cass overhears Barbara tell Dick that she doesn’t know how to really care for Cass could’ve been the perfect parallel to the whole “is a Mother just being connected by blood? No, Something more is owed/Being a daughter is more than being connected by blood” lines that Cass says in the last (current) issue because Barbara, though she did not physically bring Cass into this world, has sacrificed SO much for her, and in return Cass gave so much back.

melinoe hades 2 is such a good protagonist. like the writing is so.... they're not afraid to show her as both a really single-minded, callous, somewhat black and white morality person, as well as showing how she can be kind, or uncertain of herself under the pressure she's under, or a bit silly at times. she's so endearing, and you can FEEL that she's going to have such a neat arc whenever all the set up with the olympians and mortal stuff pays off

the fact that you have to have these arguments with prometheus, where she's just willfully denying that he has a point bc her entire identity is based around never questioning her mission... i love her so much, in conclusion i'm this cat

Matilda and Vertin are great friends (considering what they went through together in the Breakaway incident).

My culture does the cheek greeting, but we usually reserve it for our close friends and family, not strangers. I heard other cheek greeting cultures tend to do the same. Since they are good friends, Matilda may greet Vertin with a cheek kiss whenever they meet (ever since they were little).

Now consider this situation:

Matilda is back from Haight Street, and Vertin and Sonetto meet her as she returns. Matilda approaches Vertin, kissing both her cheeks in greeting. Vertin kisses her back, shocking Sonetto (who has yet to try the "Italian Cheek Kissing Greeting" with Vertin). Vertin thinks nothing of it since she is accustomed to greeting Matilda this way, while Sonetto is absolutely devastated.

I was aware of the cheek kiss greeting but this is a great idea or headcanon. Matilda is very casual with those she cares about, and well Sonetto wants to be casual but she's Sonetto.

I love Matilda's and Vertin's friendship, though Matilda is a bit jealous of Vertin, they're still good friends despite everything. Plus, how can you dislike Matilda? We love Matilda in this household.

Not only is Sonetto devastated about this, not like she thinks they're very close or jealous of Matilda (she kind of is) but she does envy the closeness, but also Matilda wishes to greet her that way too and it's quite comical to see them be so tense.

Vertin goes to talk to Matilda and suggests that she also greets Sonetto that way (you can't tell me Vertin isn't aware) and she receives a comical response following the lines of "She's-- That's not-- We're not... Ugh!"

Devastated Sonetto gets even more devastated because Matilda "doesn't consider her a good friend", so you can imagine she'll be down the rest of the day. Poor Sonetto.
