I think Alan should never have trusted CN and Warner Bros because it lessens the chances of Villainous continuing...I mean since 2019 after the pilot episode came out, they don't release new content every 2/3 years and by force, many people leave the fandom and this risks the fact that Villainous will be canceled one day or another despite the fact that this show has a lot of potential and that it was popular in 2017-2019. (I hope I'm wrong but it can unfortunately be very likely if they continue at this rate!) The best thing is that Alan should have done like Vivziepop or Daria Cohen for example to make Villainous an independent series and could release the episodes once it's ready!
Uhm it's not so easy, anon. Not all animation is the same, some productions cost more than others, and also having internet presence beforehand like Viv's case helps a lot. Alan had absolutely none. He couldn't just release his shorts on YouTube on some random account and hope that it somehow got popular. There wouldn't be TV shows if it was that easy xD Besides, it's not like YouTube pays enough for a full blown animation production. They need to take donations (kickstarter, patreon) or sell merch, and you're entirely dependent on the audience and marketing, so it's not a safe bet. Even then most of the times it's not enough, animation costs A LOT if you want it to be of the same quality as Villainous is, for example. Also, Alan's dream was to have his show on CN bc that's what he watched as a kid.
There's no better or worse choice when it comes to animation, there are just choices with pros and cons. It's not an easy world at all, much less now. So all we can do is support the shows we like and they'll continue.

The Batfam sometimes say a verb in another language and then add the English-ing ending to it and it's weird to everyone but their similarly multilingual, many mental tabs open at once siblings who are well versed with the specific linguistic idiosyncrasies that Dick Grayson introduced into the family's vernacular.

Another bonus to learning a fiber art is being able to speak to others in a Lovecraftian language that nobody else understands...
...and also being able to read things like THIS:

Shoutout to child hosts of teen/adult-bodied systems. System spaces tend to be inherently not accommodating to people like us, and there’s still so much stigma surrounding child alters being “allowed” to do “adult things” in adult-bodied (and adult-minded) systems.

all it takes is one (1) singular and not even very good joke from dick to make bruce feel better. and why wouldn’t his favorite word be his son’s own name?

I really need bilingual Japanese short story books to not have romaji in them ever. The stories are written in hiragana/kanji with furigana and yet vocab lists have romaji. WHY. You're already assuming the reader can read at least hiragana! If they can't even read hiragana they probably aren't ready for short stories! So why include romaji?!?! Furigana is enough!

The idea that Shang Qinghua and Shen Qingqiu speak casual dialects amongst each other is one of my favourite scenarios to imagine. I love you, artists, for this gift. And then if - for lack of social correction - they ironically annoy each other with their teenage years popular phrases but let it slip on accident sometimes now?
I just want someone to ask how Shang Qinghua's travel was as he gets off his sword after a stormy flight, only for him to blurt out that the trip was 'bananas' or something and this instantly sends him and Shen Qingqiu into qi-deviation due to psychic damage.

......Oh my God where did I fall
This is Patalliro in 2023
Exams make people so desperate that they revive corpses
Tumblr media
Patalliro: Ah, Zachary, I hear the call of stocks, money is calling me!
Zachary: No.
Patalliro: Hmm... Zachary doesn't want anything to do with me anymore after that incident. But he's a handsome guy, if I'd introduced him to Bancoran, Zachary wouldn't have turned him down. And if Bancoran suddenly needs help with money.... HO-HO
Bancoran: Major Bancoran, MI6 agent, nice to meet you.
Zachary: L-likewise...
Voiceover: And although Zachary didn't even guess at himself, the cards stubbornly advised him to sleep with his eyes open and look around more often

i think it’s so beautiful how there are certain language features that we reserve purely for poetry and the like; there’s strict syntactical rules when speaking english day-to-day but if you want to play with them? bend them? break them? in the name of art? sure, go ahead. you can go a long way without impairing communication of your message, and on top of that—it just sounds prettier.

the confusion anglophone cognitive researchers of the first world create when they describe literacy of Latin script writing systems as general human literacy leaves a really obvious gap for whole language advocates to say "wHaT aBoUt ChInEsE??", only I don't think there's anything about written mandarin that would actually fundamentally contradict much of the research?
the claim by many researchers is that it's too hard to remember by brute force the 60000 odd words that a literate person needs to know for english — which is what the phonetic decoding is for, to ease the burden on memory with an extremely robust mnemonic tool. the only difference between hanzi and latin script would be the number of characters you have to memorize, ~3000 versus 26 (for english). and where children learning to read English will learn a handful of sight words by rote memory, the mandarin students would learn those characters as the sight words they often are. the modular aspect of both written and spoken chinese is probably what makes it doable yet hard, as opposed to nigh impossible. I assume it's only that first step of 3000 that's the real bitch, but after that it's all combining characters, like in english

In all the journals you've read, what are your favorite stories?
Oh William Abbe’s is absolutely my favorite journal as a primary source for the stories he shared. He had his flaws made plain in his writing, like all of ‘em, but he also really focused on the social world of the whaleship which is what I care about.
He gave everyone nicknames. Once members of the crew tried to stir up a fight between a man named Charger (known for his slow movements) and Raw Eggs (known to be a chronic prank-farter and had such terrible eyesight that he once said the rising moon was a lighthouse), saying they’d give Charger a shirt if he fought him. When Charger reached down to grab Raw Eggs, Raw Eggs caught his hand and just started vigorously shaking it with a grin as if they were making introductions, thus diffusing the entire fight.
Abbe would sit on the hatch during idle hours in the watch, telling everyone stories by weaving together the plots of different books to make his own and everyone, including his superiors, would gather round to listen.
There was also this whole game he had going on with the captain’s wife aboard which I was reading like a straight up soap opera…I was on the edge of my seat.
Another story I like is when wet-blanket Charles Nordhoff signed on a whaler, and at one point they heard an eerie sound below the waves while they were all sitting in the focsle. All the men were like ‘ohhh it’s a ghost!!’ and Charles was like ‘it’s not a ghost; it’s a humpback whale’. And they were all like ‘no it’s a GHOST and it’s coming from YOUR berth so that means something terrible is going to soon befall YOU’ and others were like ‘share my bunk Charles because you have a ghost in yours, don’t sleep there’ and he was like ‘it’s a whale ghosts are fake’ and then they were all like ‘you don’t believe in GHOSTS? Do you even believe in GOD?’ and then everyone hated him because he didn’t believe in ghosts.
And I love whaling wife Azubah Cash raising her baby, who was born during the voyage, saying that the little whaler’s first words were ‘deck’ and ‘cap’. When he grew up he became a sailor too, at least for a little while.

The amount of times this jackass negs her is off the charts. Like this isn't even the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last. I remember being okay with this ship when I first played T&T, but I can tell you with certainty I fucking hate it now.
#he's also way more fucking sexist than i remember. she even calls him on it MULTIPLE times#but it's not even this case#the language he uses to refer to women & how he treats them vs men is stark in 3-2 & 3-3#like in 3-2 he says ''a man's word is everything'' and then in the SAME SCENE says that Desirèe is a liar#who can't be trusted bc she's covering for her husband. so men should be taken at their word but women shouldn't? ok#there are more examples too i can't think of rn. i know he calls Maya ''chick'' at one point#god. i used to like him when i was younger. but now i'm older i definitely do not#i've seen some defenders say ''it's only the localization!'' but that's an irrelevant argument#the localization is the version we have and are discussing. we aren't talking abt the JP ver. it doesn't matter.#''well but Edgeworth calls Mia a bimbo / Apollo calls Athena tiger!''#that was shitty of Edgeworth and it was ONE time he was sexist in his era of shitty evidence forging vK behavior#and Apollo was never negging Athena + the nickname isn't the issue the patronizing is#(and tiger is WAY less patronizing than kitten be fr)#''you just hate him bc you're racist!!'' no i hate him bc he's a sexist asshole. and i hate you for implying that being a sexist asshole#is a trait inherent to hispanic people. my hispanic ass doesn't appreciate that you dickweed.#anyway. this dude sucks. tempted to replay 3-2 and 3-3 (ugh) again just to get a misogyny compilation#but idk if i'll have time before the AAI collection releases#(i want to finish this replay of T&T before then)

btw I made that playlist I was talking about before
It's effectively finished but I left a small buffer before reaching the 5000 video cap on YouTube playlists, to leave room for if I find anything else. Not all of these are media I have personally seen, but I thought it would be a neat way for me (and you!!) to get into more shows and stuff. I'm already falling in love with Princess Guinevere and the Jewel Riders for example.

I know that this is very silly and unimportant and I understand why people do this, but I just do not like it when animals that cannot physically produce emotional tears are depicted in clear emotional distress, with tears.
I know that these animals are anthropomorphised (the broader sense, not the furry sense), but for some, unknown reason, this really bugs me.
