au where drarry are neighbors and harry grows all sorts of things for potions, cooking, regular plants/flowers that he thinks are pretty. draco asks for ingredients, showing up at his door looking both haughty and shy, pretending he's not looking at harry but he IS, and always notices the smudged, forgotten dirt behind harry's ear that he kinda wants to clean off...

they behave like polite neighbors; it's a transactional business relationship. draco buys ingredients from harry, and every 2 weeks harry buys a calming draught potion from him.

"helps me at night, you know", he explains after the 3rd time. draco then brews heightened ones just for harry, and tosses a few other potions his way (for a hefty neighborly discount ofc). harry invites draco over more, cooking meals made from his garden and packing leftovers. he even leaves flowers at draco's doorstep.

their relationship develops so naturally - draco is at harry's most of the time, only going home to brew or sleep. they'll eat, play chess, talk quidditch. draco sleeps over sometimes, accidentally, but it's so... domestic to be cohabiting.

draco realizes he's in love while watching harry doze off during a movie, bc wow, he feels safe around draco to do that. harry realizes he's in love when draco rushed over to take care of him when he fell off a ladder, tending to his cuts and bruises with gentle care. their first kiss is explosive, not quite biting with urgency; it's slow and tender that leaves them tingling with warmth, their hearts bursting with fullness.

I can't imagine being anywhere near as insane as Trump supporters because my dad told me that he, earlier, drove past a guy putting a "Harris Walz 2024" sign outside his house and decided to yell out at him "TRUMP 2024 YOU COCKSUCKER" and flip him off. And he laughed when he told me because he thinks that yelling at a man (emphasized man because he thinks men should be "better" than women, and "better" would be voting for Trump in this case) who is voting for a "whore who slept her way to the top" (his exact words) is funny. And expected me to laugh with him. And got angry when I didn't and just stared at him in disbelief. Even though he already knows that I don't like Donald Trump. These people fully expect others to find their weird ass derogatory words and behavior FUNNY. Donald Trump is leading a cult of old people who he brainwashed into being delusional with him.

I don't think we, as a community, talk enough about the trauma Harry went through. I mean, his sister tried to kill herself when he was 8/9 years old (may is also a whole situation on itself, I could make the same post about her, just more intense) then someone pointed gun at him when he was around 11(?). THEN, there is the whole "his mom nearly got beaten to death" thing, and after that, he got kidnapped by the guy that nearly killed his mom and now, in the new season? The whole mom and other important people in big danger thing again.

I know there are characters with more traumatic things, but he still has some, which I've never seen discussed in the fandom

thoughts on Ginny and Harry as a couple?

There are a lot of people who find their romance in HBP forced. I don't think it's forced so much as underwritten, and the books don't get the chemistry quite right (though the movies certainly don't, either). There's potential, but they just don't get enough actual scenes of substance (besides Harry thinking she's pretty or feeling jealous of Dean) for a lot of readers to buy that they're not only in love, but deeply enough in love to break up, get back together, and wind up married.

That's not to say I don't see the appeal. There's a very cool scene in Book 5 where Harry's doing a woe-is-me-Chosen-One act, and Ginny effortlessly puts him in his place about it by reminding him that she was possessed by Voldemort at eleven, which is a rare glimpse into her character and also a great synecdoche for their relationship — Ginny is a grounding presence who, like Ron and Hermione, isn't going to be awed by his past adventures because she knew him before they happened. In that respect, Ginny's probably one of the few women Harry could feasibly wind up with, because he only ever seems comfortable around people (let alone girls) who can see past the Chosen-One schtick and treat him like a normo (see: Ron, Hermione, the Weasleys, Luna, Hagrid). True to type, he doesn't get interested in Ginny at all until she's ditched her celebrity crush and ceased to view him as an idol, because in his heart of hearts, Harry wants to be a normal boy, and it's stressed over and over that part of what he likes about his relationship with Ginny is how normal it feels. He kind of has a horribly supercharged version the celebrity dating problem: after the Battle of Hogwarts, anyone he meets is going to know him first as Harry Potter, Chosen One, Boy Who Lived, and Actually Fucking Resurrected Messiah of the Wizarding World, which is... I mean, it's possible that there are witches out there who could get over that, but Harry's not an extroverted guy, and I'm not sure how he'd go about finding them. Ginny's the one who's been there since the beginning, doesn't need anything about him or his past explained to her, and actually likes him for who he is.

When you look at it that way, it's not surprising he married his high school girlfriend. She's one of the few people still alive who doesn't see him as a demigod.

Harry sat in his seat at the theatre, feeling uncomfortable as ever. But whenever he squirmed, even the slightest, his teacher would look up from her seat next to him and lock eyes, lips pressed together in a silent don’t you dare make a single noise or you’ll be in big trouble, boy.

Harry sighed softly, looking over at the stage. Any time now the whole show thingy would start, and the faster it did the faster it would end and he could leave along all his classmates. He couldn’t at all understand why everyone in his grade was forced to go watch people dancing at the theatre, they had never done that before, but here he was. His classmates whispered to each other and giggled every now and then, but no one looked over at him. Not once. How much he might hate it, Harry was a lonely ten year old, and he couldn’t see himself ever making friends in the future. He sighed again. He was destined to being lonely, he had to face it.

Now, now something was happening on stage. Harry straightened his back and stared as the lights turned on, and kids his age and older entered the stage. They all seemed to know exactly what to do and where to go, as they split up in pairs. Harry was disappointed at first. Kids his age? Wasn’t this supposed to be a dance to take seriously?

He quickly learnt that this, in fact, was a dance to take very seriously. Harry could barely breathe as the music began playing, and only seconds into the performance his knuckles whitened as his hands balled into fists in his lap. Harry leaned forward, not being able to take his eyes off of what he was seeing.

Harry wasn’t educated in different types of dances or different genres of music, but he didn’t need to know much more than what he was seeing and hearing and feeling in the moment. The music was quiet but so loud, and the dancers moved slowly, softly, gracefully. Two boys in particular caught Harry’s attention very quickly. They were dancing together, their backs to the rest of the pairs on the dance floor. Every pair followed the same choreography, but these boys were the only two boys on stage, dancing together. Could you do that? Harry tilted his head and watched with interest.

Both boys were his age. One of them was a brunette, his hair curly and put up in some kind of small ponytail. He was smiling softly the whole time while he danced. Harry felt a tug in the pit of his stomach at the sight of him.

The other boy was staring directly into the brunette boy’s eyes, his mouth in a thin line but his eyes smiling, glittering in the stage lights. There was something mischievous about his expression. Harry forgot to breathe for a moment, and quickly, all his attention was on this boy. He was blond, his hair kept neat and tidy, so unlike Harry’s own. His eyes, still focused on his dance partner, were dark, but when the light hit right they glowed silvery.

Harry was still not breathing. He leaned forward, in a desperate attempt to come closer to the boy on stage. The brunette seemed to enjoy the dance with his whole being, and so did the blond, but there was a difference. Harry couldn’t really pinpoint what exactly, but there was something. He kept his eyes on the blond, saw the way he hastily tilted his head to force one strand of hair out of his eyes. Then he smiled quickly at his dance partner, looking nervous as he bit his lower lip and took the brunette’s hands. They started dancing even faster, facing each other. The odd feeling in Harry’s stomach grew stronger and turned into something else. Stop the dance, he thought, growing more and more frustrated by the second. They can’t touch like that. He knew boys couldn’t touch like that. That’s what Aunt Petunia always told him.

So why were those two boys looking at each other like that, holding hands lighter than the other dancers in stage, trembling like that as they spinned around and took swift steps over the stage… it was hypnotising to watch… Harry furrowed his eyebrows. Why was the brunette so close to the blond, why, why, why? Why wasn’t Harry a dancer? Why wouldn’t Aunt Petunia let him have hobbies, oh God, why didn’t she? He’d do anything to be on that stage right now, and he couldn’t figure out exactly why.

I’d be in the brunettes place, he reasoned to himself. I don’t know why, but I would. Maybe I could dance like him. Be as graceful as him.

Catch the interest of another boy like him.

Maybe that’s how friends were supposed to be? Close, nervous around each other? But it seemed wrong. Why wouldn’t Aunt Petunia let him be close to boys like that then? Why would she tell him off for looking at boys for too long? He only wanted to make friends. That couldn’t be the reason she stopped him, right? Harry was so confused.

And so… so curious of the blond boy, and he couldn’t for the life of him figure out why.
