Queer Reads: Riley Hart

For an author with a wild amount of range, I bring you Riley Hart. 

Hart is a weird one, because I love some of her writing, and some of it just doesn’t do it for me, so this isn’t just a blanket recommendation, but everything in the little graphic are book I have enjoyed, so check 'em out. 

Hart does angsty books, low angsty books, sports romance to small town romance. This post shows some categories of the various books Hart has written. There’s really something there for everyone. 

I tend to go for more of the gritty, angsty stuff, so I particularly enjoyed Risk the Fall and On The Mountain, both standalone novels featuring MCs who are really going through it. 

Remember folks, read queer all year.

The existence of the Noelverse suggests that there is an alternate universe where Charlie died in the war instead of Noel and that there is an actual Noel who is still alive in one of those universes. Maybe he even goes by Charlie Dowd.

This also works in wider malevolent multiverse stuff but this was the context i first thought of it in.

I read @strangerhawke's absolutely wonderful "The Way We Connect" series last week and those fics reached directly into my brain waves, grabbed me by the neck, and threw me on deck of the Noel/Arthur/John ship. And because now they're literally all I can think about, I just had to draw something for the series!

I had a thought a couple nights ago right before I fell asleep about Noel and it was tragic and heart wrenching and miserable and I thought "I should write this in my notes app" and then i fell asleep like a dumbass

Twenty Days of Fluff - Day Ten

I figure I can't cling to this forever, so I may as well post it, right?

“Oh…” She trailed off, chuckling nervously and rubbing the back of her neck. “I uh, I kind of forgot about all that. Y’know, with, everything…”

“Nah, it’s fine, I can put it away for you guys, no big deal.”

Smiling softly, she nodded, re-situation Zephyr in her arms. “I’ll keep that in mind, thanks…”

It was going… okay. But Gods d***, Hiccup was right; Zephyr was really starting to be active.

She had set her down for a minute, to literally just put the food away. And when she turned around? Zephyr was gone.

So basically, the next who knows how long hand been spent borderline chasing after her. She’d ended up making it a game, as to tucker her out before her parents returned.

When they did get back however, her ‘friend’ Finely had decided to stop over.

“Oh, hey Finely, what… are you doing here?” she asked, raising an eyebrow as she balanced Zephyr on her hip.

“H-hey, Danny! I was just… coming to say hi, is all!”

“At my brother’s house?”

“Your uh, your mom said you were here…”

“Sure she did…” Thinking about it, she eventually replied, “Okay, fine, come in, just.. you have to leave before they get back, deal? Astrid is already pissed off at me enough as is…”

Apparently, the two teens had lost track of time, and while they were sitting, talking, Danny picked up on Hiccup and Astrid making their way up the porch.

“Shoot! Finley, go!”

“Go where?!”

“I dunno, f***, get— get under the couch! Zephyr, shh, it’s okay…”

…

“Hiccup! Astrid! Back— back so soon!” she exclaimed, having finished kicking Finley successfully under the wooden couch.

His face fell a bit. "Oh! Right, yeah...that's alright! You're not really close with them anyways, right?" Although, if she kept spending time with Finley, that might change. Fishlegs was close with his nephew, and would want to get to know Danny too.

"Thanks, but it's no problem if you don't get to it."

Zephyr was having a great time.

Sure, she teared up a little once she realized her parents had left, but she was cheered up easily and did love her Aunt Danny.

When Finley came to the door, Zephyr eyed him curiously, her thumb in her mouth.

Zephyr was nodding off in Danny's arms, the sudden movement jostling her awake and causing her to cry from the interruption and the sudden tension.

Hiccup and Astrid entered their home, smiles on their faces. Hiccup's smile fell seeing Zephyr upset, "Did everything go okay while we were gone?" His brows furrowed as he reached to pick up his daughter, the girl starting to calm down once she realized her dad was there with her.

Astrid tilted her head at Danny, crossing her arms. "You seem a little tense, Danny. Did something happen?"

learned today that renowned classical scholar Moses Finley was fired from Rutgers and had to leave the US after being investigated for communist sympathies by the House Un-American Activities Committee in the 1950s, and that he married his wife Mary in 1932 at the age of 20 years old and was married to her for 54 years before the two passed away exactly one day apart in 1986
