the windows are glazed and the leaves heavy, almost midnight as you drive me home only to turn around and take the highway back to yours to curl up together under a bare comforter while the breeze comes through the curtains.

30 degrees outside and we are sweating under pink lights...

in the heat of summer, i had pleaded, from the heart, that you not self-destruct nor disappear, as i slowly reconsidered my own plans of running far.

and now as the snow creeps down the mountains, as frost shrouds the windshield, ices the sidewalks, as the fog settles above the rooftops, and the aurora begin to streak between the stars -

now as we are curled together, fresh from the shower, apple cider on the counter, he asks me:

"how's this for not disappearing?"
