The title isn't much of a spoiler, I mean you find out pretty quick that the red hair the protagonist is interested in is kind sort of vampire. I read the book this is based on a long time ago. Back when I wasn't allowed by my parents to read horror books. I had to stay in the library and read it there. Let's hope the adaptation is good.

Un regard sur : L'arracheuse de temps (film)

L’arracheuse de temps est un film québécois sorti en 2021. C’est un conte moderne (créé par Fred Pellerin à la fin des années 2000), mais l’histoire se passe au Québec d’antan (il y a 100 ans). Le film commence dans les années 1980 avec une grand-mère qui raconte une histoire rocambolesque à son petit-fils. L’histoire parle de la mort qui arrive au petit village et la façon dont la grand-mère…

The Finish Line

As of last night, the final cut of The Memory Keeper has been submitted. The past week was spent polishing the sound design (so much sound design), including the addition of a song, as well as finalizing the color grading. 

Ethan, the primary producer, and I also completed the dialogue and music cue sheets, respectively. These documents are used to ensure we have all the rights for the soundtrack, as well as help with subtitling and any translations. 

Now, we just wait for the premiere!! May 9th, in Portland, our festival will go live. I am so excited, and so so proud of everyone who worked on this film, as well as the other films within the festival/class. Thank you for all the support!

French side of Youtube

Il paraît que ça manque de recommandations de chaînes francophones sur youtube qui ne datent pas de 2010.

Sans prétention de complétude, voilà mes recos de youtubeurs (chaînes actives et pas craignos) :

Linguisticae - Chaîne de vulgarisation sur la linguistique en général et souvent la langue française en particulier. Membre des linguistes atterrées, collectif auteur du tract "Le français va très bien, merci". Rageux contre l'Académie Française, comme nous toustes.

L'Histoire nous le dira - Youtubeur historien (et québécois), chaîne très riche avec des séries sur des pans complets de l'histoire (occidentale majoritairement).

Nota Bene - Pour rester dans le thème histoire, la chaîne de vulgarisation historique la plus connue du youtube francophone. Travail de recherche bien sérieux (grosse équipe) derrière chaque vidéo.

G Milgram - Mon youtubeur préféré du moment. Sa mission : s'attaquer à l'emprise des modes de pensée pseudo-scientifiques et anti-scientifiques. Tout est sérieux, sourcé, et fiable, et présenté avec humour. Tu veux savoir pourquoi l'état français utilise l'argent du contribuable pour mettre de la potion bleue à base de fémur de geai dans les éoliennes ? C'est par ici.

Scilabus - Youtubeuse sympa qui depuis ses propres études supérieures en physique a monté sa chaîne pour expliquer ou démystifier des phénomènes du quotidien par des expériences et explications scientifiques. Elle enseigne à Polytechnique Montréal aujourd'hui.

Notseriou's - Chroniques cinéma humoristiques, parfois bien nostalgique (Arthur et les Minimoys a un spinoff officiel et c'est un film d'horreur ??)

Joueur du Grenier - Oups ma liste se transforme en liste de 2010.... N'empêche que JDG est toujours là, toujours sympa. Thème jeux vidéos.

LinksTheSun - Pareil, ça c'est de la chaîne durable depuis bien 15 ans. Films, livres, pop culture....

Le Fossoyeur de Films - Allez, une dernière et après on arrête l'archéologie. Chroniques cinéma, et comme pour ces trois dernières chaînes, a grandi avec ses créateurs et se prend moins au sérieux qu'à ses débuts.

David Castello-Lopes - Plus journaliste que youtubeur, mais si vous voulez plus de tubes par l'auteur de "je possède des thunes", c'est par là. Voir aussi sa chronique "Suisse ?" sur 52" RTS, "Intéressant" sur Arte et "Historiquement vôtre" sur Europe 1

Monsieur Phi - Docteur en philosophie qui vulgarise très bien ce sujet pas forcément facile d'accès.

Can I ask what’s the general opinion on the Marseille accent? What do Canadians think of it? Is it fancy? Or rough?

ouhh what a question anon! i'm tagging @givemethedamnflowers so she can help me out too if u want to <3

also i don't speak for all Franco Canadians / Québécois. fiy. ya know.

as a Québécoise first and foremost (Canadian comes 2nd in how i view my identity), and as someone WHO HAS A MOREAU FROM MARSEILLES in my close family, i love the accent. to me it's somehow much less grating than the Parisian accent (not the international French accent, that one's ok) despite being much more pronounced and how do you say... quirky? not weird, but like it's definitely peculiar. special! i like it a lot. it also makes me love Jean Moreau even more because it adds character, an edge, another area of fondness. i personally think it's very easy to spot, but contrary to the north of France, it's easier to understand.

i would say the most northern accents are much rougher, more difficult to understand than Marseilles or Paris, also because of the disparity in colloquialisms and regional expressions. but i do love them so. Bourgogne?? Normandie?? oh how lovely. and then down down down down south, neighbor to Marseilles, l'Occitanie (a fave)!!! oh and la Corse!!! so so beautiful to me. music to my ears. maybe bc, as Québécoise, like i said, i feel a little kinship with those regions' accents, bc the Paris/Île-de-France spit upon our accents as shitty, ridiculous, "not real French" or generally make fun of us, like we're somehow less smart bc of the way we pronounce things and speak with our accent. in my experience! and trust me, i've had a lottttttt of 'em. so the little scene where Jean keeps being annoyed by Thea calling him 'Paris' when he's from Marseilles? ACCURATE & GOLDEN! made me smile.

that being said, as it has been discussed many many times in the fandom, characters like Neil, Kevin and Jean, and even Andrew and Nicky, have such wild backgrounds, with how much they move around geographically + their mixed heritage, that all of them must have unique accents you can't really pin down. Jean left Marseilles at 14, was homeschooled, then forced to learn Japanese then English, in West Virginia, from native Japanese speakers. he doesn't have the Marseilles slang, the refs; his French is stuck at that level and it can't progress, and he also probably loses a lot of it, breaking down over time. finding his words must be a a nightmare. imagine trying to translate a word that isn't even considered French nor translatable outside of Marseilles' region!!! also, how old were his parents? what generation of slang has he picked up by default? or was he, sadly, taught international French?

SO MANY QUESTIONS! UGH! aftg & languages, French specifically, give me a headache (and heartache) every time.

i would say, watch films and series! please! from every part of the Francophonie around the world! Belgium, Louisiana Cajun, Acadia, Québec, Marseilles, Niger... it's a beautiful language, despite his devastating shameful hand in colonization and racism. the way the people forced to learn and speak it to survive have all found ways to make it theirs in infinite ways that help the language evolve and become richer. French is as much theirs now, if not more. French is much more that than the Republic. French is not Paris.

Trop drôle comment je savais que Denis Villeneuve était québécois parce que bah j'ai vu Incendies (super film, super pièce bref) mais je m'étais jamais dit "bah du coup il parle français" et là je le vois en interview parler en anglais avec un GROS accent québécois, puis français avec un accent québécois, genre quelle idiote je suis parfois.
