and he gets so so so excited, that's he's talking chris' fuckin ear off. until he has a moment when he realizes he's been talking for awhile. and he slows down. visibly embarrassed.

he's happy, he's smiling, and he feels so fucking guilty about it. what about all the people who were dead? who lost their loved ones? living in terror every day? does chris really give a shit about something so mundane and pointless? he's annoying, isn't he? it's best to just shut up and go back to what he's made to do. just be a good little lap dog and keep killing the bad guys.

Shoutout to the 1mil+ scoville hot sauce my friend made. A little dab of it on some food is unironically like getting a buzz from a beer or something. You dont really think of spicyness as a substance to take, but when it is this strong it is absolutely like taking a drug. Some not quite shower thoughts for the evening.

Giant puffball (Calvatia gigantea). These became puffball schnitzel with some mushroom gravy.

Orange mycena (?) I didn't look super closely but the appearance of the gills would recommend mycena over Omphalotus. Cool because they bioluminesce, bad idea to eat.

Xanthoporia radiata /alder bracket fungus. May try using them to dye some leftover wool, haven't decided yet.

Shrimp of the woods (Entoloma abortivum). Yum yum yum. Hopefully there will be more soon, but it's been dry. In the meantime I'm making another batch of popcorn "shrimp" by baking these with some Old Bay. My husband hates this unfortunately, as they smell great but don't sit well with his stomach.

I'm waiting for a good rain or two before going back out.

Bonus: giant cache of black walnuts. Leaving this for the squirrels.

Also traded some sweet Rosh Hashanah challah for a bunch of fruit from an old couple who live out in the countryside. They have an orchard they largely leave to its own devices and often find themselves with more harvest than they can use.

Tonight l'll be processing the apples and pears for apple butter and probably also pie.

May even fuck around and rack the wine I made from the grapes they harvested at the beginning of September.

Thanks @graveyarddirt for this lovely September hagging out idea. Not sure how well I stayed on theme, but I had a great time appreciating the plenty the Earth provides for us.
