Smoking a cigarette in the snow, on my break at work. I take the last puff and as I blow it out a man I've never met tears past me at mach fuckass on his four wheeler. Does some donuts, ofc I'm smiling. As I lean down to press the ashes against the snow, he slides the tail end of that 4 wheeler directly in front of me, spraying my ankles with snow. He asks if I want a ride, and the glee is clear in his voice. I say yes through my laughter, only if he can make it quick, baffled and excited this is happening to me on my break. He tells me where to sit and how to wrap my arms around his waist, and tuck my head against his shoulder. And he TEARS OUT OF THERE. We fly through the snow. I lean with him as we make a sharp turn, I scream and laugh as we spin and the snow is flying and It feels especially clear in this moment that I'll never be 22 wishing I could play in the snow during my lunch break again

there is something so horrible about destroying churches, or any place of worship. im not even religious. it’s about the fact that people were so devoted, put so much effort into building and decorating and just experiencing this part of their life, that they hold so important. and all that effort is taken away by a fucking bomb

Calling Snape a stalker, creepy, a racist, or a homophobe (which drives me crazy because he’s literally the only man of his generation who could pass as queer-coded and is especially marginalized and attacked for his appearance and for not fitting the alpha-male standards) or a woman-abuser (when canonically the characters he’s shown to be the least aggressive and most accommodating with are always women, while his relationships with men tend to be much more conflicted) just shows a complete lack of reading comprehension, not to mention blatant classism and a total ignorance about how power structures work and how they impact the lives and decisions of people in vulnerable situations. And when Marauders fans come in trying to whitewash their high-born heroes by making things up that don’t happen in canon, or when they fail to respond to a well-supported argument about class dynamics, it tells me one thing: the rainbow flags and Rowling hate are just a facade, and they have no real understanding of how discrimination and social inequality actually work at their root.

Ok here's the thing that I think. I don't think Lucanis's trepidation at a relationship with Rook is because of Spite at all. Ok maybe a little bit, but I keep going back to the coffee date because that scene has literally embedded itself into my psyche but also because... he flirts back! Whether you read the scene as Rook flirting or not, Lucanis is! Just as much as people might say he flirts with Neve or Bellara or Davrin early game, he does the same with Rook! So Spite isnt really a consideration for him when it comes to those early game fun banters with his colleagues BUT after that in act 2 is when he starts getting reticent WITH EVERYONE. But beyond all of his personal problems at this point, I think he's genuinely falling for Rook if you keep choosing the "flirty" (in quotes because you're actually just being nice) options and I don't think Spite has anything to do with his fears. I think it's the possibility of this being his big life-altering love! Spite's like/dislike of Rook doesnt influence the fact that Rook could be It for him. And that's scary just in general esp with his background of not really having a cvonnection to anyone before.

imagine you’re plastered and an extremely hot, successful pirate/small-business owner is flirting with you. and you’re trying to get down to business when you keep getting interrupted by your adopted teenagers.

and after, like, the third time they come to interrupt you, you’re about to lose your patience because why won’t they leave you alone??? what is going on?!?!

and they say it in the most genuine way— there’s no judgement or passive-aggression to their words.

and you just have this feeling of “oh. these kids really look up to me.” they want to protect and love you in the same way that you’ve shown them protection and love. when they see you, they only see the best version of you— and you haven’t lived up to it. but you suddenly realize that you WANT to live up those standards… for them. you WANT to be what they see you as.

juanki & ferru: the lore

(or, why i am so abnormal about them.)

they've known each other since they were kids in valencia - juanki played youth tennis with ferru's older brother (who was a junior champion) and later ferru spent a year at the academy

"Even when we were little we played together… we have been friends since we were small."

they're self-described best friends + were joined at the hip on the circuit

tennis club unveils a statue of juanki in his hometown? ferru is there. ferru's family throws him a surprise birthday party? juanki is there. holding clinics. going on retreats. traveling to and from tournaments together. coordinating which tournaments they enter so they can travel to and from tournaments together. ← YES, REALLY.

in ferru's own words, "it's always better with him." ok.

they didn't actually play each other that often - their h2h is 7-2 in ferru's favor. they did famously meet in back to back finals in 2010 - appropriately, juanki won one and ferru won the other. :)

in 2009 juanki was called up to the davis cup team for the first time in 4 years. first he was supposed to be a reserve, then he was supposed to play a dead rubber. then fernando verdasco melted down, the fifth rubber became very live, and he ended up single-handedly saving the day and sending them to the sfs.

so when in the final ferru came back from 1-6 2-6 down to beat radek stepanek he immediately raced over to throw himself in juanki's arms, rip alberto costa who got in the way. then of course he dedicated the win to juanki.

the davis cup is just… a whole thing with both of them. so it's appropriate that now etc.

speaking of tournaments that are a whole thing with both of them. after juanki bought the rights to the valencia open, he invited ferru to share them. true love is (checks notes) co-parenting an atp 500 tournament

so when juanki decided to retire he chose valencia as his last tournament 

he went out in the first round. ferru won the entire tournament in his honor. <- they said it, not me.

immediately after ferru's match winner he ran over to find juanki in the stands for a hug so long i had to split it into two gifs

then he dedicated the title to juanki. ("Este triunfo forma parte de ti, te lo dedico exclusivamente para ti.")

they also entered for doubles and made it all the way to the semifinals despite the fact that they had never played a doubles match together before

after their first doubles match (and surprise win) there was a big farewell ceremony during which ferru gave a speech about how juanki was destined by the stars to play tennis and visibly fought back tears as juanki stared soulfully into his eyes.

they got married three months apart, which could mean nothing

when ferru retired in 2019 juanki wrote him a lengthy open letter about his feelings

and threw him a personal tribute celebration. you know, in addition to his actual retirement ceremony.

specifically he held a day long festival of ferru at the jcf academy that included, in decreasing order of normality:

to this day when they play each other in legends events ferru is out there saying things like I JUST HOPE I CAN PLAY AS WELL AS YOU <3 never mind the aforementioned 7-2 h2h. this man is down just as bad as carlitos and it's been TWENTY YEARS

meanwhile ferru is constantly dropping by the academy for funsies. and in carlos' box. and at his practice. and that's BEFORE you get to the davis cup. 

in summary: what if the royal spanish tennis federation paid you to co-parent a grand slam winner with your boyfriend <3 that's what we call a happy ending!

the thing about dan and phil is that they did hard launch. like they did do it. 15 years ago without yet knowing who exactly they were hard launching to (millions of people years in the future). but they did do it. did you miss the memo? did you not hear?

I think you’re exactly right! In my head, at first, he’s totally cool about it. Like if his wife’s water breaks or contractions start, he’s holding her hand and coaching her through it.

But then labor really kicks in.

Honestly I think Feyd would feel so fucking helpless and that would frustrate him to no end. There is no enemy for him to vanquish. He can’t solve his wife’s problems with his blade or with his wealth or through intimidation. He just has to endure this with her as she’s doubled over in pain and crying out and cursing his name. And her labor seems to go on and on and on.

And as a result he would snap and bark at anyone who came near her. On a normal day everyone is afraid of Feyd, but now they’re absolutely terrified. It makes it hard for his wife to receive treatment because he glowers at the physician and the servants who bring his wife ice chips. Eventually his wife has to send him out on a walk or an errand or something — anything for him to relieve his molten-hot anger.

And, of course, he would be a good little soldier and obey. Feyd would stew the whole time and probably reflect about his wife’s pregnancy and his upcoming role as a father. And right as he’s wondering what the hell he just got himself into, a servant fetches him to let him know that his wife has started pushing and the baby will arrive sooner rather than later.

Harkonnens know well that labor is just as taxing as battle, so the physicians allow Feyd’s wife to labor however she pleases. His anger would transform into absolute awe and admiration, watching as his wife works through each contraction, body shuddering, covered in sweat and reddened in the face. And he would think that his wife has never looked more beautiful, that all of his victories pale in comparison to the slick thud of his child sliding into the physician’s hands, his wife’s resulting cry of exultation.

Feyd has never felt so many things all at once, or so deeply. It crashes into him like a fucking sucker punch. He uses a ceremonial blade to sever the umbilical cord, the tether between his wife and his son — who sucks in his first breath and releases it with tumultuous fury, bloodied and bruised from his own battle.

And then the physician is handing his wife the infant and Feyd’s entire world shifts. There is nothing more magnificent as his wife, smiling despite her prior agony, holding the babe to her chest as he squirms and writhes and wails. Feyd realizes with dizzying certainty how his family had failed him, had looked at him as a helpless babe and still wreaked havoc upon his life — and how he would never allow the same fate to befall his son. No, Feyd would do anything for his new family and, as far as he was concerned, his only family.
