some commentary under the cut

how it started.. i wanted to do something symbolic, somethin abt the tragedy of lights character while also being very aware how terrible he is. i reeeeaally wanted mikami's writing to look like wings from light's back, but it didnt really translate as well as i wanted it to -_-

everyone is giving something to light while the shinigami observe. Misa, her eyes and her book. Naomi her identity, (this may seem like an inconsequential moment in lights story but i think its soo important for showing how thin the line is for him getting caught, and how conniving he is. and also i like her) L is giving... himself. i cannot go into detail for this it'll get too long. Mikami giving his worship, the names he writes forming the wings of his god.

the bottom corner has a burning photograph of Light's family, accompanied with a blood stained hand print on their faces.

happy holidays :DDD this was a lot of fun to make!! it's been a while i did some video editing (+ the tiniest bit of animation) and i enjoyed going back to it. complex backgrounds are definitely not my forte but it was good to get some practise in

i tried to capture the atmosphere of the original writing, and it ended up going in very old-anime-nostalgia direction; i hope it came through! also hope you dont hate yellow anime subtitles kfmldsl;;as

what draws you to Naomi as a character? what Situations™️ would you throw her into given the chance?

i feel a lot of my love for naomi comes from Second Chances by Spades 44 (where naomi + matsuda + raye + L + watari all work together to solve cases), and i haven't actually read Another Note yet (just absorbed some of it through fandom).

on the most basic of levels it's "omg cool woman" - competence is attractive and all that. on a slightly deeper level, i like that she's not pure stoicism but emotional (to possibly a fault?). the friction between her 'role' as almost-wife and her career is really interesting too, and i don't get the impression that she wants to give up on either. it's not really a revolutionary topic per se, but i think that conflict between expectations and passions is always a bit relevant

that being said. i think it'd be fun to see her in more light hearted situations! maybe something with a friendship with L? some kind of fluffier au? it might be really funny for her to be some overstressed manager in an office job honestly. go wild, santa.
