When I think of The Emperor’s New Groove, the four characters that come to my mind are Kuzco (ie “The Llama”), Pacha, Yzma, and Kronk. That’s perfect for the usual limited SSR, 2 SRs, and R introduced for new story events. Each of them could wear an outfit inspired by their Disney film counterpart. There could also potentially be a new twisted character introduced, but this only occurs for “hometown” (ie visiting other countries) events and Halloween events sooo 😅

For our Kuzco stand-in… Well, someone from a rich and influential background + has a ton of arrogance makes sense, right? So my immediate thought was Malleus or Leona, the royals. Idia or Riddle could also work, but they’re not quite as dickish. Of those, I think Leona works the best since he’s the most overtly asshole-y of the bunch and also it would be a little funny for the beastman to actually become a fluffy animal/j. Plus, he comes from the Sunset Savanna, which could be made into a reference about how Yzma’s original plan was to “snuff out the light” of the sun.

Something I’d really like to see is Kalim dressed as our Kuzco. He’s not a traditional asshole, but I think he could stand to learn a lot from being made more aware of how the less fortunate (like Pacha’s family) live. This might be valuable in connecting Kalim with the plight of the common folk, as well as get him to realize how some of the things he says/does are unintentionally very callous. The “snuff out the light” of the the sun metaphor also works for Kalim since he is usually so sunny + depicted as the sun, which contrasts with the moon (ie Jamil). The moon is also mentioned in the song lyrics, seeking revenge, reclaiming “[my] right”, and a world of darkness.

Pacha is very fatherly and kind, so I immediately thought Trey would fit in the best out of all of the “parental” students. (The others seem way too sarcastic or snide in underhanded ways.) Plus, that green poncho Pacha wears would look nice on Trey :>

Yzma has many potential candidates! I think Vil actually fits in a lot better as Yzma than as Kuzco, especially granted her obsession with maintaining her looks (very Vilcore) + penchant for potions (his best subject). You could also consider Azul, as he wants to maintain a certain public image and also seems to be good with brewing potions. On the more treacherous side, we could look at Jade (who shares the same best subject as Vil) and Jamil. There’s literally lines like “I’ve really stopped at nothing/Murder, treachery, and lying”. Jamil works super well especially if Kalim is our Kuzco for that moon and sun dynamic.

Himbo Kronk also needs a himbo to match! A physically strong yet well-meaning boy with a heart of good but not a lot of brains… It makes me think of Deuce or Silver. Jack and Sebek could also work here, but both of those guys are pretty (book) smart. Doesn’t have to be an exact match for Kronk though. I could easily see a situation where Sebek’s brazenness or Jack’s bluntness results in something stupid happening.

okay, by popular demand (and by popular demand, i mean 3 people and my inability to keep my mouth shut) i am here with my saiou/ousai relationship + mini character analysis. this is an elaboration on this ask i got earlier !!

i should mention that i’ve only ever played through v3 once, so there is probably a lot i am missing, nuance wise and what not. i also haven’t edited this well, so it’s kinda just a word dump (sorry), so i’m not sure how understandable/coherent it’ll be. nor do i know how original my ideas are; there’s probably someone who’s dumped their opinions exactly like mine somewhere… in any case, here is my conclusion on why i think saiou is a rather intriguing ship and why i’m personally drawn to them, individually n otherwise ✌️

ouma kokichi. god what a complex character. some might argue otherwise, but i think his character and his arc throughout the game is not only hard to crack/understand, but integral to the v3 plot and overarching themes presented. well never truly know what he was thinking, and so many have already fought tooth and nail to defend or oppose him. in my humble opinion, however, the way i see it is this: ouma’s overall goal was to unite everyone against an active, obvious threat in the killing game. the mastermind was hidden amongst them, as they decided found out on, and by outing himself as the mastermind, making himself a clear and obvious target, it encouraged the remaining survivors to build trust within one another and fight together. kokichi realized very early on that no one was going to trust anyone as long as there was a hidden mastermind posing as a student within their group. he knew they weren’t going to get anywhere if they kept doubting each other — so in a very unorthodox way, he united them together. they didn’t need a friend, he realized, they needed an enemy. and by default, he sort of becomes shuichi’s nemesis as most antagonists in the games do.

i was on tiktok the other day and found this comment that i thought made a good point, regarding kokichi’s character and why people hate him.

though i am biased, i think it’s fair to say that in a world without the killing game, kokichi would want to be friends with shuichi. or at the very least, he’d be intrigued by him and push shuichi’s buttons to figure him out. i think it’s funny and such a nice detail to notice, but just as shuichi (and us, by default) are confused about kokichi and his actions, shuichi himself is actually a mystery to ouma as well. in the eng version, kokichi had shuichi labeled “trustworthy?” on his whiteboard meanwhile in the jp version, it’s “tricky/can’t figure him out.” in both versions regardless of translation, i think it’s fair to say that kokichi is intrigued and wants to understand shuichi better. one part of their dynamic i really love is the whole “i’m gonna annoy because it’s so fun and you react to said annoyances in ways i thoroughly enjoy.” and it’s fun, and silly, but i think it’s also kokichi’s way of figuring shuichi out. shuichi is… an anomaly. he’s an ultimate detective who’s supposed to search for the truth, yet he is ironically afraid of what he’ll find out. he has a knack for discovering and unearthing mysteries (he can’t help but connect two dots together) and yet he simultaneously is hesitant to discover more. he wants to find the truth, but is willing to tell lies in the classroom trials. this is a really fun juxtaposition with kokichi, who is notorious for telling lies and skirting around the truth like it’s the plague. and yet, they both want the same thing: to find out the truth and be done with this killing game. one is searching for the liars within their group, the other is finding out the truths.

this is one reason why i really enjoy saiou. one of the biggest themes for drv3 is the relationship between truths and lies. there’s the overarching “truth” of their world which is that it’s gone to hellfire and everyone but them are dead. the world ended. except, nope! that’s a lie! the *real* truth is that they’re in a killing game show. kokichi is known for telling lies, and so when he reveals the fire destroyed world outside and says that this is the truth out of the outside world, it’s ironic. kokichi knows there’s something else up, but he reveals the truth of the outside world to them (this, from what i understand/theorize, is ultimately to further everyone’s hatred towards ouma and help them form a close and trusting bond together, but the symbolism behind it is really interesting to me). “here is your truth,” he says, and they can’t dispute it as a lie because it’s right there in front of them. just like they couldn’t dispute gonta in the fourth trial.

except… what *really* defines truth? kokichi must’ve known the outside world was a lie, or that there was something more to it, otherwise why did he go through with his suicide in chap 5? to beat a dead horse: he tells a lie about the “truth” that is the outside world. we circle back to this lie vs truth theme in chapter six when shuichi starts questioning his sense of self. what is really true if he used to be someone else? if his memories and experiences are fake, does that make himself a fake human? a fake person? ultimately we come to know that it doesn’t matter — *he* gets to choose his own truth, even if there are lies buried beneath them. his memories may be fake, but his emotions and feelings aren’t. you cant fake the beating of your own heart or the pain you feel at knowing it’s all unreal, that it’s all a *lie*.

one thing i just thought was so so clever and genuinely helped me understand kokichi more was his friendship reward. for every friendship star completion thingy you complete, you get their underwear (💀) and a special skill to use in the trials. kokichi’s friendship reward is “kind lie.” he has a multitude of lies under his belt — real ones, hurtful ones, white ones, and ofc kind ones. you could argue his plan to deceive everyone as the mastermind was both a hurtful lie and a kind lie — he was ultimately lying for the greater good (imo). shuichi, despite being afraid of the truth, has no problem lying for the greater good either. i was so confused about the whole “perjury” aspect added to this game. i thought it was just another lame addition that didn’t make sense as a means of attempting to change it up a little in comparison to the last two games. but now i understand it’s greater purpose. lying is ultimately not a bad thing. not always, anyway. lying, as we find out, can help us pursue the truth. and i think kokichi knows this to be true in some ways, which is why he’s always acting so oblivious and naive at some times — or outright lying when he knows the truth is the opposite of what he’s saying. without a doubt, kokichi seriously helped move debates along during the trials. pretty sure whether you hate him or love him, people could agree to that. even if he appeared to be spouting nonsense or derailing the conversation, shuichi being the detective he is was able to slowly but surely understand (if only somewhat minimally) kokichi’s methods and thinking process. which is why chap 5 was so wild because it quite literally was all up to shuichi. kokichi single handedly put his trust into kaito to follow through with the plan, and shuichi to figure it out; NO ONE ELSE would’ve been able to figure it out except shuichi (except maybe maki but she was too stubborn to see thru to the truth). and that is like. holy shit??? that’s crazy to me and i think it shows that despite not trusting anyone and not knowing how it was going to turn out, kokichi took that gamble anyway. and it worked! except yknow. it also didn’t, in a way. all in all, the lying aspect of the trail grounds ties into the bigger overarching theme of choosing your own truth to live, and choosing what lies to believe in — good or bad.

side note: i think it’s so funny how mad kokichi gets when shuichi lies about seeing him in the virtual world in chapter four. had shuichi not lied, we wouldn’t have figured out it was gonta (or more likely, kokichi would’ve spoon fed the answer to everyone a bit more). gonta wasn’t supposed to have memory loss, and i have to wonder if not lying about kokichi would’ve made the trial go along if gonta still had his memories from the virtual world. in any case, when shuichi pulled the “yeah i actually did see you walk up the stairs��� — the fact he LIED (mr “i’m searching for the truth so we can live and find the culprit” detective) to notorious king of liars ouma kokichi was so funny to me. like girl. ofc kokichi’s gonna realize you lied. and he did and he got so fucking mad over it and kokichi being petty like that and just saying “yeah okay gonta’s the culprit” is so funny to me. bro was LIVID he decided to just up and say the truth to be petty 😭

moving on, i think the big three characters juxtaposed with shuichi is something to note. those three being kaede, kaito, and kokichi. mayyyybe i’m looking a bit too much into this but i want to mention their relationship with shuichi and their character designs because it feels very intentional to me. a while back i discovered shuichi and kokichi have inverted color palettes — black with light accents vs white with dark accents. grey-ish yellow vs purple eyes. but the eye color inversion also actually applies to kaito and kaede, who, just like kokichi, have purple eyes. here is my argument: purple is an important color to the story, as it overall conveys a symbolism for trust and truth. if you look at those three’s color palettes, purple is a notable color. for kaito, it’s dominating. kaede, she’s a bit more desaturated, and kokichi it’s like his accent color. barely there, but noticeable nonetheless.

kaede is our first culprit (except she isn’t since her plan failed). she is trusting and sweet and kind and encouraging. she is desperate, *desperate* to find the mastermind first thing because she is heavily determined to help everyone escape. her color palette is a mix of purple and pink, with pink being more prominent and her purple being a more lavender shade. she’s desaturated in color, especially in her eyes, and i want to say this is likely symbolic of her desire to find the truth, yet her willingness to deceive others simultaneously. she’s not a bad person, far from it, but when she “kills” rantarou, she doesn’t own up to it immediately. she owns up to it eventually, but she also doesn’t take advantage of the first blood perk as a means of further trying to find the mastermind. she is willing to lie about her plan to shuichi (even if it’s lie by deception/not telling) and willing to take a risk to find and kill the mastermind. this, i believe, is why her eyes are so desaturated in purple; she is telling the truth, but it’s watered down.

kaito is almost the complete opposite of kokichi, but also not exactly the same as kaede. out of the three, he has the brightest purple eyes and the most purple on his body. he is a living, breathing, walking example of trust and truth. he wants to find the truth so badly and would never even THINK to tell a lie. would never even consider murder, even if it was the mastermind. his hair is purple, his jacket is purple, and his eyes are purple as all hell. purple, in my opinion, is a huge color resembling truth and trust. he *trusts* maki just because he wants to. he *trusts* shuichi just because he wants to. he wants to believe in them because he wants to find the good in everyone. his trust in them help bolster shuichi into a better mindset, especially after kaede, and encourages him to keep going. kaito might not be the brightest, nor the most helpful in the trials, but emotionally he is vital to shuichi. because he *trusts* shuichi.

kokichi has the least amount of purple in his color palette, but i think his purple accents are the most important out of all of the purple trio. if purple is the color of truth and trust, then having that color reflected on kokichi almost seems ironic and misinforming. except it isn’t. ouma kokichi, the notorious king of lies, is actually quite good at leading everyone towards the truth. the only purple on him is in the dyed tips if his hair and his eyes— almost like the truth his bleeding out of him, or rather just barely visible that you can’t make it out unless you focus hard enough. after all, at first glance i imagine everyone would take in the checkered scarf and the fact black and white is so prominent on him. i think it’s symbolic to have purple as his eye color. it’s a nice character design aspect imo, but it also harkens back to that one saying “the eyes are the window to the soul” or something long that line. despite what kokichi might say or do, the truth is in his eyes (literally). it’s silent and unassuming, but it’s there. his eyes are actually a brighter and darker purple than kaede’s. not as bright as kaito’s, but still something to note.

with all this being said, shuichi gets a difference sense of truth and trust from each of them. kaede provides him an equal dose of truths and lies, kaito gives him absolute truth, and kokichi gives him almost all lies to find the truth.

and i really, *really* love the dynamic between shuichi and kokichi with this whole truth vs lie theme. kokichi, as we learn in his free time events, loves to play games. he’s a bit childish but still extremely mature. his way of having fun is messing with people (though not necessarily in a mean way. after all, he makes the stakes extremely high and concerning, like killing yourself if you lose — but he still purposefully rigs each game so they end in a tie, or with shuichi winning. hell, he STABS himself, hurts himself, in the knife game that is in the final FTE and holy shit if that isn’t foreshadowing for chapter five idk what is. he is willing to hurt himself to avoid others getting hurt. obviously this can get more complicated when it comes to chap. 4. you could argue he hurt miu and gonta terribly and he should’ve died if what i said was true, but i would counter argue by saying the killing game would’ve gone on and on, just like tsumugi wanted, without his intervention there… still a heart wrenching trial nonetheless and gonta and miu both deserved better imo. but what would danganronpa be without unfair trials and bullshit like that?).

it’s this push and this pull, this dance, if you will, between shuichi and kokichi. kokichi is a trickster pulling various stunts and never revealing his hand, and shuichi is a detective trying to uncover his secrets. i think kokichi gets thrilled at the prospect of being uncovered like that — he lies and he lies and he *wants* someone to catch him. after all, in the love suite hotel his entire thing is phantom thief being captured by detective shuichi…… the fact he still says “because i love you shuichi” is fucking insane, but that’s actually not the most important part here. during the love suite, he brings up playing games again, just like in the FTEs. “you weren’t bored playing with me, were you?” kokichi asks. and then “are you mad because i toyed with you? don’t worry. i’m always thinking about you!—“ (bombastic side eye 🤨🏳️‍🌈) “—you’re always trying your best to catch me. i really have to give it my all to win .” and then shuichi points out directly after that he seems to be enjoying himself, despite being a “cornered criminal.” and that’s when kokichi admits that he *wants* shuichi to catch him. ….. oh boy the connotations here are kinda crazy but…. it gets even crazier. i cant believe this part is voice acted but here i’ll just link the video so people can watch. (from 4:32 to 5:10) a lot of this, esp towards the end, is likely for the whole romantic love suite hotel roleplaying thing going on to appease the audience playing the v3, but even still it’s such a fun dynamic. again, the push and the pull. it almost feels like a game of tag, the thing going on between shuichi and kokichi. except it’s hard sometimes to figure out who’s running after who. overall, kokichi is a liar and it’s hard to tell what he says is true, and shuichi is a detective hungry for truths.

side note 2.0: i think a lot of people hate saiou because it feels toxic and i can sorta see where they’re coming from: from a very bare bones glossing over their character dynamic, i could potentially see how they got to that conclusion, but i don’t think that conclusion did any real deep diving into their dynamic and characters. so no, saiou is not toxic. and also, it should be mentioned the moment shuichi shows signs of unease in the love suite hotel after kokichi shoved him over the bed, bro was up and out. kokichi respect boundaries and understands a no when he hears one 😁👍

tldr: truths vs. lies. games. purple = truths and trust. chasing after one another. saiousai cool ✌️👍

Books and crumbs

Probably most speculative post in this little series, but nonetheless marked as spoiler. As always when talking about S3 locations and related content, appropriate level of discretion is advisable — due to the obvious sensitivity of this material, please tag it accordingly and share only with the fans consenting to know potential spoilers.

By now most of you probably have seen this post published on the Till’s social media on Friday. Super cute gesture and a lovely way to let the fans know that even the staff is shipping Aziraphale and Crowley (told you they have Muriel vibes!).

Technically the bookshop wasn’t the only off-set location, since we already know of some others, including the parallel film shoot happening on the same day, but still! Do you think that this display could be a Clue? Are we going to see a sword-fighting angel again? Let’s see if the books here (neither is currently listed on their website and wasn’t there at the time of the filming) might feed us some information crumbs.

The first thing I can notice about this display is an open copy of The Pilgrim’s Progress (already noticed on Aziraphale’s desk in the Good Omens: Lockdown special) open on yet another illustration by Harold Copping, this time titled ominously “In the Valley of the Shadow of Death” with a quote: “So he cried in my bearing, o Lord, I beseech Thee, deliver my soul”.

This fragment of the actual book could be potentially relevant to the plot:

���At the day of doom we shall not be doomed to death or life, according to the hectoring spirits of the world, but according to the wisdom and law of the Highest. Therefore, thought I, what God says is best, is best, though all the men in the world are against it”‬.

The book behind The Pilgrim’s Progress can’t be identified at the moment, but reminds me of the illustration of the War in Heaven for Milton’s Paradise Lost by Gustave Doré:

What can be easily identified here is a leather-bound copy of Angel Pavement, a 1930 novel by J. B. Priestley depicting the struggles of shopkeepers and traders of an imaginary London street in the wake of the Great Depression, additionally stirred up by a mysterious and charming newcomer.

Priestley’s social panorama of London depicts many perspectives, but focuses on the employees of the firm Twigg & Dersingham, suppliers of veneers and inlays to the cabinet-making trade, under No. 8, Angel Pavement (a small cul-de-sac in the heart of London’s commercial district). Interestingly, both BBC adaptations of the novel — a 1957 and a 1967 TV series — are considered completely lost.

The red spine is the only one I recognised from my visits to the bookshop in question — a leather bound copy of Dombey and Son by Charles Dickens. The 1848 novel tells a story of a wealthy shipping firm owner coming to terms with the death of the son he dreamt of continuing his business with and eventually embracing his daughter’s love when it seemed lost as well after years and years of neglect.

His boy had faded into dust, his proud wife had sunk into a polluted creature, his flatterer and friend had been transformed into the worst of villains, his riches had melted away, the very walls that sheltered him looked on him as a stranger; she alone had turned the same mild gentle look upon him always. Yes, to the latest and the last. She had never changed to him – nor had he ever changed to her – and she was lost.

The daughter eventually returns to reunite with her father after starting a family of her own, and years later the changed and aged merchant dotes on his granddaughter as if to make up for what he’s done to her mother by abandoning her due to patriarchal values.

Father figures and their sons or, in particular, daughters seem already pretty significant in the S2 context, as described in e.g., On Love and Sacrifices and Dysfunctional Family Dynamics, but they hit particularly close to the potential S3 themes in relation to both Aziraphale’s changing position in Heaven (and in Metatron’s eyes) and Jesus and his role in the Second Coming and the Last Judgement.

The big open book at the bottom is a first edition of Heroes of Folk Tale and Legend by Vladimir Hulpach (1970). Illustration by Miroslav Troup represents the monster Grendel, known from the Old English epic poem Beowulf in which he was slayed by the titular hero.

Grendel’s sudden appearance at the royal banqueting hall described on this spread is similar to the demonic attack on Aziraphale’s bookshop at the end of S2, but can also be seen as a foreshadowing of yet another danger to come and/or the beast from Revelations, the Antichrist.

He even looks similar to the engraving Anathema had hanged on her murder board, don’t you think?

The room is cold, the lights flicker, and the constant hum of the monitors seems to drown out any attempt to think. In the distance, the echo of other players discussing their decisions fills the air, but your thoughts are focused on one thing. The decision. The vote.

"Stay or go." That is the question that has been haunting your mind since you arrived here. No one really knows what will happen after tonight, but the option to leave has stopped being as clear as it seemed at first.

Nam-gyu is standing in front of you, his dark eyes locked onto yours. You have no idea when he approached, nor how he managed to make you feel so vulnerable. But there he is, in his usual position of power. He always knows how to make people follow him. What you don't know is why you are so willing to follow him too.

"You know what you have to do," he murmurs, getting a little closer. The tension in the air is palpable, and you can't help but feel the weight of his words. "Stay or leave." Choose."

"Whatever you decide, you'll do it for me," he says, his voice low and filled with a confidence that sends shivers down your spine. He knows you too well. You know that he knows how to make you feel small, how to manipulate your emotions, how to influence your decisions.

You look into his eyes, searching for a clue, an indication of what he really wants from you. But you only find that fierce, intense gaze, as if he were testing you, challenging you.

"And if I decide to stay..." you whisper, even though you already know the answer. "What do you want in return?"

He smiles, that arrogant smile that takes your breath away. Without saying a word, he moves closer, his hands gently resting on your waist. You feel the heat of his body, the beat of his heart, and something inside you crumbles. You can't resist.

"You don't have to say anything," he murmurs in your ear, the warmth of his breath sending shivers down your spine. "I just want you to choose what you desire most."

You don't fully understand it, but something in his tone, in the way he touches you, makes your mind go hazy. Fear, doubt, everything that had held you back before disappears in that moment. The only thing that matters is what he wants, what he makes you feel.

His mouth finds yours in a quick, demanding kiss, as if he were already claiming what he knows is his. You feel his desire, his control, and for a moment, you wonder if your decision was ever really yours.

"Choose O," he says, his voice full of power and persuasion, and you know that what he is really saying is "choose to stay." "Because I know what you really want."

You feel trapped, but instead of wanting to escape, you surrender. Because you know that in this game, in this world, Nam-gyu is in control. And in the end, you realize that you made the easiest decision of all.

The one about surrendering to him, the one about accepting his control. The one to choose to stay.

Putting aside your fears and worries to let him take the reins. Let him guide you to what you truly desire. Even though you know it could cost you everything, you decide it doesn't matter. Because if there's one thing you've learned, it's that some decisions can only be made under pressure, under desire.

"Alright," you whisper in his ear.

And he smiles. He knows victory. It knows you. And he takes you with him. To a place where freedom doesn't exist, but you don't need it either. Because after all, you only have one option.

Stay. With him. Because he is what makes you feel complete. And in return, he will give you everything you could ask for.

"You are mine," he whispers in your ear. "You chose to stay, you chose me." Now you are mine.

You nod, knowing there's no turning back. That there is only one answer to everything that is happening.

"Yes," you whisper.

Take the opportunity to go to the bathroom and you follow him, knowing that you are his. You can't help it, and you don't want to either.

"Let's go," he says, and you follow without hesitation.

You don't need anyone to explain to you what's going to happen. You know. You have known it from the beginning.

"Just go with the flow," he tells you on the way to the bathroom.

You don't need to ask why, or what is going to happen there. You just know that you have to accept their control, their will.

And you do it.

You enter the bathroom, and he follows you, the door closes behind you.

"I know you want this," he says.

"There's no turning back," he whispers in your ear, holding you tightly in his arms and pulling you closer to him.

"Take it all off," he orders.

And you do what he says. You take off the green uniform, the bra, and the panties, and you stand naked before him.

You can't help but blush, but he doesn't seem to mind.

"That's it, you're my girl," he says.

Nice to see the Undersiders in action again + Vista

Will say Victoria’s fights, while still good and interesting in things like Aura and the careful use of the Wretch, doesn’t have the same variety and fun stuff as Skitter. I do get that it’s kind of on the opposite end of the spectrum from Taylor’s “How do I use my ‘weak’ power (her words not mine) to take down this stronger foe?”, instead being more of a World of Cardboard situation with less control / mental stability. Tradeoffs I suppose, there will probably be some stuff to help it shine in its own right (Victoria’s internal monologue after accidentally hitting someone too hard with the Wretch in 6.4 was good)

That said, the rest of the team has a lot of fun stuff going on with how they can use their powers. Kenzie even got to drone strike Mama Mathers, which is perhaps the funniest way for that fight to be resolved

The fight with Cradle and Operator Red was neat. I mean, not for Rain, but at least that meant we got to see Scapegoat again- oh hes Fallen? Huh.

I like Chicken Little, even with just the bit we see. Lets hope third times the charm, Lisa.

Super Magic Dream Parade is… certainly something. Might go into the “niche characters to draw” pile

I like the subversion of what they thought was gonna be them destroying the portals and instead expanding them. The separation of humanity to different Earths felt like more of a backdrop/flavor so far, hoping this means we get to see more of the variance between the worlds

Arc 7

What felt like 3 arcs in a trenchcoat, this one took a long while to get through (partially because of school starting up again midway through)

I like the little mini trials as a sort of epilogue to the past 2 arcs in what is for the most part a transition period before I assume is the next big event with the group behind the portal attacks. Nice little moments for Rain.

Yamada’s missing after the portal incident? Damn that sucks hope they can mamage without her- RILEYS MISSING TOO WE GOTTA GET THEM BACK

Jokes and blorbos aside, those two being missing are pretty bad for a lot of reasons, both within and outside Breakthrough

Victoria’s meeting with the other therapist was rough, though for understandable reasons. Never really thought of the implications before on her being potentially Ship of Theseus’d from stray cats

Victoria getting to see a bit more of the ugliness going on in Breakthrough, starting with Chris lashing out. Completely reasonable for him to, but damn went right for the gut with the Amy mentions

Speaking of things tied to Amy, hi Marquis! I just drew you! I can’t tell if he was doing it on purpose or he just did the equivalent of accidentally hitting every negative dialogue option but damn

A lot of buildup towards what I can only assume to be Teacher’s Cauldron making a play, especially with the Nieves interlude. Not sure what his goal could be supporting an anti-parahuman movement, other than ig weakening his main enemies in Citrine and Tattletale.

Eclipse

As someone whose first experience with Worm was making a character who was a former Boston Ward, I was excited for an arc that was at least in part all about Boston

Ashley’s trigger is tragic. I had a feeling any trigger involving pure destructive power like that was either bad leading up to the event or in the direct aftermath, and that was both.

Interesting to see how many different players there were in the Boston Games, as well as the more familiar faces like Accord and Blasto. I liked the bits of their dynamic and personality in Worm, and was glad to see more of that and how their rivalry started here.

Look. I still hate Carol. But I can’t lie, some of her lines during New Wave’s fight with Damsel were kinda cool. Now just keep that kinda cold energy for villains and not, y’know, your daughters.

Poor original Damsel, fought like hell against heroes, villains, and her own powers half the time, and didn’t even get a seat at the table. Not to mentioned played from the start by J. Maybe. Never did get confirmation he was actually a spy iirc.

Oh hi Jack! And yay Riley! Nice little tie in back into the Worm timeline. Well, nice for us, horrific for Ashley. Again, poor original Damsel.

irl was doing some labwork and decided to put this behemoth of an interlude on the audiobook to listen to in the background and that was a wild experience

The dinner was just painful to listen to. The way the parents were more focused on themselves or how things looked vs their daughter literally bleeding… like I wanna say it bordered on over the top but like with the bullying in Worm this kind of stuff and worse does happen. Glad she got out of that… right?

The little callback to Victoria doing the whole crisis point thing in Arc 2 was nice, though

Everything was going so well with the foster parents and then… that. Honestly didn’t fully get it at first until reading the comments on the website and… yeah. It’s not her fault, she was 8, she was traumatized and afraid of being separated from them and then the poorly worded search. Keith could’ve handled things better but it was also traumatizing on his end. Just an awful situation overall.

Honestly, I don't think I ever thought about it, at least not in a more "analytical" way.

I think it genuinely depends on what point in their relationship you're looking at.

Like Nightwing and Robin, they are brothers. I can see it like a mentor-apprentice relationship and a bit of a father-son relationship, but they seem more like brothers to me.

I'm not going to lie, this may be a little influenced by my own relationship with my brother, we have practically the same age difference as Dick and Damian. I am the older one, and I am adopted and he is a biological son.

And I always notice similarities between our dynamics (leaving aside the whole being heroes thing, lmaoooo), but the way Dick knows how to advise his younger brother (and his father to be able to understand his youngest son), more from experience... Well, it's something common among siblings, even more so if there is a significant age difference between the two.

Now, like Batman and Robin, they're definitely going more towards a father-son dynamic.

Even when they want to project Bruce and Dick as brothers, for me within the Batman and Robin dynamic there is always more of a father-son relationship. Same thing goes for Dick and Damian.

As Batman, Dick takes on a more mentor-oriented role for Damian, also, perhaps unconsciously, he seemed to mimic certain behaviors Bruce had towards him when they were the original dynamic duo. Not hero dynamics, but when they were out of the mask.

Also, we know that Dick wanted to adopt Damian, but he was afraid he wouldn't be a good father to him.

Now, like Dick and Damian, I personally do see them as brothers again, differently than they are when they're in costume tho.

There are many older siblings who raise their younger siblings, this is unfortunately all too common. In some ways, they resemble parents more than siblings, but still, they maintain a line that distinguishes these roles from each other.

I feel like this is the relationship between Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne.

Dick is definitely his older brother, but he treats Damian like his own son.

Damian is definitely his younger brother, but he sees Dick as a father figure.

There is a father-son relationship in the form of care and protection, but a trust that only exists between siblings to tell them secrets that the parents cannot know.

1 Year anniversary of Boonboomger episode 1 premiere, The series that I never had any single thought that I gonna love them that much when I saw them at first

This time of last year, My life was pretty good. I enjoy my multifandom fangirl life as always, Taking with local friends, Discussing with western friends on discord, Playing some games, Building gunpla, It was a normal life but good. For tokusatsu that I love (and usually have a main focus on Kamen Rider) for more than 10 years now, I was on the hype train of Kamen Rider Blade 20th anniversary event. It was so happy that my favorite series had a spotlight again and still love by the communities. But in fact, I was pretty much on a faraway position from toku fandom since a long while now. I knew that Kingohger was a peak (I have some goods too) And Gotchard came to the half of series. But that time I was too faraway to ride on the hype train. Maybe because toku fandom wasn't my main focus fandom like I used to be. I was just enjoy some information about them when it come to my timeline and go to check if something fun happen.

When I heard a news about Boonboomger at first. I laughed a little from how funny the name is and made fun a little. Like Boom Shakalaka or Boom-Boom Shake (I'm in D4DJ fandom too). After I made a joke, I went back to my main focus fandom again because I thought "Well, Nothing gonna change. Know some news and look at them from far place like always. And my focus in toku fandom are usually Kamen Rider anyway" And when they appeared officially, People laughed at them because how funny the tire heads are. I was surprised too. Yeah... It was crazy design. But I always think that design isn't the most important thing. The story are. So I was waiting for the next information. Then February 18th, The cast revealed. I giggled again, For the third time. Because how the character name are too literally car-related names. Tire, Chassis, Mirror, Lock, Work site. But yeah... Still a normal thing in anime or media that sometimes the character names will bring from something that match the theme of story. So I was like... Okay lol. But the casts visual are so good. I admit.

Finally, First episode premiere. I looked at them from faraway position as usual. I knew that people still so impressed of how Kingohger was that much epic. So I assumed that Boonboomger that go back to simple way might not able to catch their attention that much at first... Or maybe not? How Sentai decided to go back to simple way after all of the craziness for many years might be a good thing, Let us rest for something more simple like a good old days. And after I checked a feedbacks, I was surprised and happy that how the audience like them after many laughs on them. Well, Simpleness aren't bad thing at all. But I will end up just checking on them from faraway again, right? Well, On the same day production blog was update too. As I checked a feedback from audience on Twitter, One tweet that captured one part of that blog caught my attention and it tickled my curiosity. That sentenced said that the blue "loves" (大好き) the red. Since I'm also long time fujoshi for many years that have lots of ships in toku fandom too, I was wonder a lot. Why they put that word so blatantly? Normally about shipping in toku, Just put something like have a strong bond, Strong interesting on other, Or trust that person a lot, is enough to gain an attention from fujoshis. But "Love" Huh??? This caught me off guard. I was like "Well, I'll keep check on them because I'm so curious right now"

So, I went back to main fandom like I always do. But keep checking on Twitter and Facebook every week after the on-aired. I found that they really keep caught me off guard. Outside of how normal but fun to watch story. The dynamics of the characters that interesting. And as my curiousness was on that certain blue boy, It kept escalated lmao. The "Unfair", "Trust your judgement", "Don't leave me behind" all of them came after the word "love" on production blog. They caught my attention and won't let me go because my fujoshi sense was tingling so bad. And his character settings have lots of my favorite tropes too. That time I still thought that "My interesting on them might be not that hard". But then, My local friend that I knew for many years but didn't talk to each other that much for years started addict to Boonboomger. She drew lots of BBG fanart. And of course since she's fujoshi like me, She drew fanarts and spicy fanarts of red and blue too. And those fanart kept come into my timeline. Lots of male friends joking about them too. Everything was too perfect for me to... Maybe comeback to toku fandom again? One day on May, That local friend decided to make a first Tiremeter doujishi. And when I saw that announcement, Even though that time my interesting still wasn't on the super high level, But I was like "I have to get one!" So I DMs to her since many years. We reconnected from the love for them. And then after that for a bit while the plushies was on sale and I decided to bought it. That time I was like "Well, Point of no return for me. Maybe I love them now."

I went to Japan for Kamen Rider Blade 20th anniversary event on August, But I enjoyed Boonboomger stuffs too like watched the on-air real time, Went to eat at Sentai Restaurant and buy some merches. After that I checked on the latest episode every week and enjoy the overall aspect of the series. The lovable characters, The simple but fun story. And they lit my fire to back to toku fandom for real since that time current main fandoms was on stable (and had too little things to enjoy) status. So yes, Toku fandom became the main fandom again since many years. And after that Gavv was able to caught my attention from the design and how cute Gocizos are too so, Fever time! I connected to lots of friends who have the same interest. Even in JP communities too. Since that local friend help me (or drag me) to this rabbit hole, I have to help her access to JP communities to buying doujinshi too. And with our power, It was successful (But our wallet are completely defeated)

The fire that Boonboomger lit inside me wasn't only the feeling of excitement since long time, But my development and improvement too. I already got lots of confident boost about my drawing from previous fandom. When I saw my friend made a second doujinshi, I said to her that I wanna join drawing the extra pages too. That was a first time in my life that I could break the limit of my drawing and the old thought of "My work will never be able to sell" and I was so proud when I saw my arts as a form of doujinshi in my hand even though it was just an extra pages. After that my will to improve my art skill became stronger and I keep on going until now. I even think about what if I revive my fiction writing skill that I left it dead for 8 years too? Well... Maybe. And another one is... Yep, Me came back to Tumblr because I wanna yap about my bois! This maybe a little improvement of my English skills.

I, Who usually mainly attract to Kamen Rider and enjoying Super Sentai from a bit far away compared to Rider (I grew up watching early Heisei Rider before knowing Sentai for a pretty long while so), Finally found Sentai series that I really love, Found actual oshi that I stan a lot, Found OTP that made me excited and brainrot so damn bad since Build. (As I said before that I'd never into toku ships that hard since the best match bois) Found the 3rd IRL person that I stan a lot since last time that was 10 years ago. And I feel really thankful to meet them and everyone that came to my life because of them.

I'm a person who have to take lots of time to like something a lot. But if I really into that thing I'll keep into it and never change. Since my fever time on Boonboomger still strong so maybe I need lots of time to find another series that made me crazy like this again. I don't know if Gozyuger gonna be another wave of my craziness again or not since I need a time to know them a little. But I think I'll enjoy a new series from a little faraway position like always. I’m sorry but I still fail to see how random people on the internet shipping characters that are not real has any effect on reality or real queer people. And I’m still not “changing their sexuality” when I’m not writing cannon. Nico is still very much cannonicly gay. Only Rick (or maybe Mark nowadays) could ever change that and I don’t think they ever will.

I’m very sorry for those awful things people said to you and others, that should have never happened. But that also correlates with my point. The people that say those things themselves have a “fiction is reality” type of mindset. They see fictional lesbian characters shipped with men. They think this means all lesbians both fictional and real people are really just “bi with extra steps”. Meanwhile if they would ever realize that fiction is not reality then when they see fictional lesbian character with men they would not associate that with real life lesbians at all and also realize that that character is very much lesbian in the cannon and that no amount of fandom shipping could ever change that because the fandom is not writing the cannon.

And as for the tags : back in the day right before ToA came out I was obsessively reading PJO and HoO over and over again they were comforting for me while I was in the trenches. And when ToA came out I just noticed a whole bunch of fallacies and inconsistencies and flaws. Some parts of ToA were fun for me tho but most of it just didn’t feel the same it didn’t spark joy within me like HoO and PJO did. Partially because Rick’s writing has changed a lot over the years and also because I was growing up and naturally changing myself. I started noticing the flaws in PJO and HoO more often too it wasn’t just ToA.

And as for the hints of Nico having crushes on Annabeth and Juniper :

This is from battle of manhattan when Percy Annabeth and Nico are trying to leave on the phase to get back to camp halfblood for the battle about to happen: Nico being cross with everybody but Annabeth, saying “fine I’ll go back to the camp that also hates me to help you fight ina battle to save it. But only for you Annabeth specifically”.

And this is from the last Olympian right after Percy threatens Leneus the satyr to help in battle of manhattan and Juniper and Nico happen to be there and they start talking about Grover being missing soon after this Nico aPercy and Mrs. Olearly go to mays house: Nico being very flustered and uneasy about Juniper talking to him kindly but also grueling him about Grover and Percy asking if he came there just to see her and Juniper putting her hand on his shoulder

“Authors don’t decide to make important characteristics like sexuality on a whim” well Rick very much did do that. Like. A better author or creator probably would not have done this on a whim and would have put more thought into it. But there was no indication at all of Nico being gay before House of Hades. At all. Trust me a while back I went and looked. I reared all the books with the purpose of looking for Easter eggs that Nico is closeted gay. And I found nothing. Zilch. Nada. In fact I found evidence that proves the exact opposite. Evidence that proves Rick was originally writing Nico as straight in the first 5 books and possibly even Son of Neptune. Hence the two screenshots above from BOTL and TLO. Mark of Athena itself is actually up in the air. And it kinda sucks that Rick did that. But he very much did do that while he was writing Mark of Athena and wasn’t sure if he was going to officially make it cannon or not until he was writing House of Hades and decided to do it.

And I do agree that Nico being queer was important to his character arc and plot as well as Nico and Jason’s dynamic. However it was not planned in advance like you think it was. (And also I’ve seen many real queer people saying they way Nico was forced out was traumatizing for them to read and would have appreciated it more if Nico came out on his own accord and was not forced out and very much agree with that.)

There are many flaws in Rick’s writing. Some things are insensitive and some things are just downright problematic. And it’s all of his writing not just ToA I mean all of it. And it is deserving of critique. I know he’s made some progress over the years and is not as bad as he used to be about this stuff but still.

Rick really did not plan Nico’s sexuality in advance. He really does a lot of his writing on whims not just sexualities of characters. There is very little in his series that he would have planned in advance.

I think while Rick was writing Mark of Athena he had the idea to make Nico gay but wasn’t sure whether to go through with it. He was writing books for Disney in 2012-2013. Disney. A large corporation known for being homophobic especially before the last decade or so. He wasn’t so sure about doing it. But he wanted to show support for queer kids at that time cause there was a lot of gay marriage rights being discussed at that time.

And while he was writing House of Hades he wrote himself into a corner. This was his thought process: He had this idea for the scepter that raises the dead to help them in the actual House of Hades while they’re fighting the shadowy giant. He figured Nico a child of the underworld who can control zombies and shadows would be perfect to find this scepter. He had to come up with some kind of conflict while they were getting the scepter. How about an angry god that wants something from Nico something in exchange for the scepter. Yeah that seems on par for his world angry gods are always making demigods do little mini quests. And since Rick had decided to not do Nico’s point of view for house of Hades he had to have one of the seven go along with him and do the whole thing in their pint of view. So he probably picked anybody random that was not Percy. He drew names out of a hate. Jason. Ok how does Jason correlate to scepter of the dead. Well Jason’s a son of Jupiter and a Roman leader. Let’s say this scepter used to belong to a fellow son of Zeus and Roman leader. Jason and Nico are going to get this scepter. Ok now what type of mini quest is this god going to make Nico do. What does this god want from Nico. Who is this god. Can I correlate my idea of making Nico gay into this? Can I correlate a lot of angst into this? And that’s how he came up with Eros outing Nico as a plot device.

Nico was never actually confirmed to be actually gay until the Trials of Apollo when Lester was thinking about him. And honestly Lester barely knows him.

Before Lester mentioned the word “gay”, Nico’s sexuality was totally unknown and never confirmed, it was only known that he liked guys in house of Hades. He could have been written as bi or pan or any other sexuality that happened to like guys as well as other genders.

I do not really consider Trials of Apollo as part my cannon in my imaginary world of PJO and HoO that lives in my head. Nico is not exactly gay to me he just also likes dudes. Yes I do ship him with girls sometimes on occasion. I like Percicobeth (both versions where Nico and Annabeth are just besties that are starring Percy or where they’re together romantic) and sometimes I like Thalico or Nico / Sadie plus a whole bunch of other guys in the riordanverse. There are a lot more guys that I ship him with more often than girls but that’s not the point.

my point is : people who ship Nico with girls (as long as they also ship him with guys or at least consider him to be not straight) are really not the evil villains yall are making us out to be. We’re not “erasing a character’s sexuality”. We simply perceive Nico’s sexuality (and possibly other parts of his characteristics) differently than you do and that’s not a bad thing. Remember: we don’t wright the cannon. And if you like cannon gay Nico that’s great for you. But please be open to people who see things differently.

Especially since this all fiction anyway. It’s fiction. It’s fantasy. You don’t have to take things like this so seriously. If you believe Nico (or at least your version of him) is just gay and is not attracted to girls / does not have relationships with girls then that’s just fine and dandy you keep doing that you keep doing you. But please don’t go attacking people and calling them evil just because they perceive a character in a different light than you do.

Fiction does not affect reality in any way. And thinking that it does is a very harmful naive and dangerous way of thinking. We are not erasing anyone’s sexuality. Nico is not a real character. Nico does not exist. There is no Nico in the real world. Do not take fictional shipping and fictional sexualities so seriously. Have fun with it and perceive it the way you want to in whatever way makes you the most happy or makes the most sense to you. But also be open to people who think about friction differently than you.

in 2009 juanki was called up to the davis cup team for the first time in 4 years. first he was supposed to be a reserve, then he was supposed to play a dead rubber. then fernando verdasco melted down, the fifth rubber became very live, and he ended up single-handedly saving the day and sending them to the sfs.

so when in the final ferru came back from 1-6 2-6 down to beat radek stepanek he immediately raced over to throw himself in juanki's arms, rip alberto costa who got in the way. then of course he dedicated the win to juanki.

the davis cup is just… a whole thing with both of them. so it's appropriate that now etc.

speaking of tournaments that are a whole thing with both of them. after juanki bought the rights to the valencia open, he invited ferru to share them. true love is (checks notes) co-parenting an atp 500 tournament

so when juanki decided to retire he chose valencia as his last tournament 

he went out in the first round. ferru won the entire tournament in his honor. <- they said it, not me.

immediately after ferru's match winner he ran over to find juanki in the stands for a hug so long i had to split it into two gifs

then he dedicated the title to juanki. ("Este triunfo forma parte de ti, te lo dedico exclusivamente para ti.")

they also entered for doubles and made it all the way to the semifinals despite the fact that they had never played a doubles match together before

after their first doubles match (and surprise win) there was a big farewell ceremony during which ferru gave a speech about how juanki was destined by the stars to play tennis and visibly fought back tears as juanki stared soulfully into his eyes.

they got married three months apart, which could mean nothing

when ferru retired in 2019 juanki wrote him a lengthy open letter about his feelings

and threw him a personal tribute celebration. you know, in addition to his actual retirement ceremony.

specifically he held a day long festival of ferru at the jcf academy that included, in decreasing order of normality:

meanwhile ferru is constantly dropping by the academy for funsies. and in carlos' box. and at his practice. and that's BEFORE you get to the davis cup.

thinking about the detective & Rebecca's dynamic sm on this wednesday. the special hell of feeling alone so early on in life. knowing that in stories sometimes grief can bring families together, but not yours. looking at every future relationship or fling or situationship through the lens of being deeply, fundamentally unlovable. because why wouldn't you? what kind of lesson does absence teach? what lesson must be taken away to survive it? even if it's bred from necessity, what does that teach the mc about themselves? will they even know love when they first see it, especially if that love does not look the way they recognize. if it does not look like begging?

let's be honest, for very ironic reasons, official writers were not really responsible for timebomb being so good, fortiche carried most of the timebomb writing

yes, even in s1 since this is really where writers (*VERY LOUD COUGH* amanda) picked up on very delicate and deliberate details that fortiche put in s1e7, details which could be potentially explored later (as a side plot, of course *sarcasm*, we don't want to overshadow other dynamics of the show, do we?)

but especially in s2 since it's basically confirmed by pascal charrue, fortiche's co-founder, that the episode fortiche studio were most emotionally and creatively involved with in matters of writing is episode 7

which is even further confirmed by linke in the artbook where he states that episode 7 is basically a literal love letter to french culture and that he hopes fortiche is really proud of it

like... wow, the "nobody loves timebomb more than french people do" joke is actually not a joke at all

Moominvalley and Snufmin

S4 Spoilers Under Cut

I’m so disappointed in how they handled Snufkin and Moomintroll this season. I had my worries, but I also had a lot of hope. They did deliberately put in those interactions. The team also kept reacting to mentions of Snufmin with winks and nudges in interviews and videos they put out. It makes me wonder what the point was. I genuinely feel like this was queerbaiting. And I don’t want to use that term because it doesn’t feel like one to use lightly. Even more so since I had such a great love for Moominvalley’s other seasons. Especially 1 and 2. It was genuinely really beautiful and soft and had such lovely queer undertones and moments. But I think it’s more than fair to say that the team knew about the reactions and how many people were introduced to it via Snufkin x Moomin. And they seemingly used that. They gave us build up but didn’t follow through. When it came down to it, they shrugged it off and didn’t address it at all. It felt so removed from Season 4. And I think that that, in essence, is queerbaiting. Because if you keep nodding to something throughout a series, using it to keep your audience waiting for the ‘inevitable’ conclusion to it that’ll certainly play out by the time the story ends only to snatch it away once you’ve secured your viewers and money, that is what that is. And I honestly expected better from the studio. If they weren’t going to commit, then they shouldn’t have kept bringing hopes up and making it seem like the direction it would go in.

so i hope we all saw the post fifi posted this morning where ja’marr says he doesn’t even LIKE ufc, that it’s too bloody and violent (lmaoooo) despite saying that he watches it with joe sometimes and despite joe LOVING it. (and despite like...play fighting ufc stuff with joe 🫠) and of course i’ve gotta read into this Way Too Deeply :) (along with a few other Likeminded Correct Mutuals) 

and it’s like…i’m obsesseddddd with the idea of ja’marr 'cries during sex' chase and joe ‘loves to get hit in ANY circumstance’ burrow being together and just having the seemingly most incompatible sexual tastes 🥲 like the first few times they’re just not on the same page at all 😭😭

but!! they love each other! and it’s not like it’s the first time they’ve had different tastes and perspectives on things, but like joe said a few weeks ago, they’ve grown together as humans and they’ll continue to do so! plus they both LOVE a challenge (and challenging each other even more so!) 

so maybe ja’marr’s never liked it particularly rough (certainly not as rough as joe likes it!) but maybe he learns to appreciate how big his hands look around joe’s neck and wrists, the thrill he gets when joe’s leaner frame can still manhandle and shove him around to get him where he wants him, the joy of the struggle, slipping out of each others’ grasps like breaking tackles, using their body weight to keep each other still, pushing himself to his limit, pushing joe to his, like it’s a throwing session, like it’s a game! the incredible amount of TRUST inherent in all of it. and maybe that last part is what gets his emotional ass the most <3 

and maybe joe’s never been that into sweet, gentle sex (or at least he’s never really let himself, with his complicated feelings about what’s considered “manly”). but maybe he realizes that it’s okay with ja’marr, the trust coming into play again (because who does he trust more in this world? at this point??) and it’s more than okay actually, sex that lets you rest in a way, lets you just be. gentle touches, reverent kisses, looking into each others eyes. seeing the emotion there and letting yourself get overcome by it. experiencing an emotional release that he neverrrr lets himself feel (thinking of him sobbing during his heisman speech lol, and afterwards saying it’s the most he’s EVER cried!!) Slow, overwhelming, torturous in its own way really, looking into someone’s eyes with no way to hide everything he’s feeling, all of that vulnerability and trusting someone to take care of you in that moment, trusting yourself to take care of them right back!! 

and honestly yeah, i just think that’s Fun. to think about 🙂 both of them exploring these different parts of themselves and different ways to Be with each other. maybe one night it’s more focused on one end of the spectrum than the other, maybe a bit of both when they’re feeling Ambitious. 

(but also lol let’s be real, the vast majority of the year - i.e. in season, i imagine the sex is mostly just quick sloppy blowjobs and handjobs and then they pass out from exhaustion. because of the whole professional athlete thing 🥲 and that’s hot too actually!!)
