Yeah, the 'they're the last to know how they feel' trope is good, but consider: when Buck and Eddie get together, it totally blindsides everyone... and sends Hen and Chimney into a crisis. Because suddenly they wonder, could they actually be secretly in love with each other and not know it? If it could happen to Buck and Eddie, it could happen to anyone.
("I'm not sure that's true..." Maddie says, but Hen and Chim are not listening.
"Wait! You're a lesbian!"
"Or am I? A year ago they both thought they were straight!"
"Oh no...")
They're wasted and panicking on the Hans' living room floor. Maddie and Karen watch on in exasperation. Karen confiscates the wine they're drinking and pours herself a glass. Maddie laments that her pregnancy is forcing her to deal with this sober. She tries calling Buck and Eddie to demand they come fix it, but neither of them are answering the phone. Karen wishes erectile dysfunction upon them both.

whatever you do, don't think about how denny was saved by the hands of the woman who promised him she'd fix everything for him, with the literal blood of the woman who loved him as his own from day one with no complaints, and the man who had him sleep on his chest as they waited for his mamas who has been their support and help and family since the beginning

This has most definitely been said before, but we were robbed of the core four quarantining on-screen together at Buck’s place. ROBBED I say

100 days of henren - day 5: locker
AN ~ for @118dailydrabble hiatus challenge <3
masterpost read on ao3
- Since Day One, his name has been on the locker next to hers.
Han.
Now it's covered in layers of tape and marker; name after name of people who will never measure up. It's not the first time – Buck, Eddie, they've had their lockers taken over too, but that's normal. It's normal for everyone else to come and go. Not them. Not him.
“Hen.” Bobby's voice is gentle. “Do you want to talk?”
Of course she does: problem is, the one she wants to talk to most, isn't answering her calls. “Or not,” Bobby adds. “Either way, I know a place that does great churros, open late.”
Chim – call failed (6).
She sighs. “Alright. Lead the way. I'm buying.”

Hmm, I see Hen/Chim tension (probably about Chim still wanting to be involved with Mara) in those stills. Fun dynamic we haven't seen in a while!!

"we might end up real close" is the craziest almost certainly unintentional foreshadowing for a pair of characters that end up as entwined as Buck and Eddie do
We're talking keys to each other's houses, "there's no one I trust with my son more than you," clawing at the earth when one is buried underneath it, army-crawling under the same object that crushed his leg and almost ruined his life so that he can save Eddie's life, "it's in my will that if something happens to me, you become Christopher's guardian," climbing up a ladder in the middle of a storm after Buck has been struck by lightning, Chris's first call being to Buck when Eddie has a breakdown, Eddie really his most vulnerable with Buck, we-might-as-well-be-coparenting-at-this-point close
like damn.

in a scene full of hauntingly poignant lines, "Well you are the adult in the situation" remains the most maddening to me.
It's easy to see and understand things when you're not the one in them. Weston says to not call his dad and Eddie sees this for what it is. anger at the absence. fear at getting his heart broken again when his dad inevitably doesn't show up. but he understands. he understands that Weston still wants his dad there. that it'd be good for him if he were. so he pushes his dad to go see his son, even if he was uninvited
but when it comes to him? the adult in his own situation with Christopher? he pulls back. despite on some level understanding that the anger is a facade hiding hurt

do you think hen wakes up in the bunks sometimes in the middle of the night and sees chimney sleeping across from her and has to check his pulse. do you think chimney insists on being the person using the defib on every call. do you think about them healing together through every call, every person that they save after jonah

maddie and hen’s relationship is so fascinating to think about, especially in all the ways it’s developed offscreen. like, that’s the sister of one of hen’s close friends, and her best friend’s partner.
they’ve always existed in each other’s circle. they’re aware of each other’s struggles. they definitely care about and sympathize with each other. but it feels like for the first six seasons, they never really had a lot of time to bond one on one (not just onscreen, but also off).
maybe I’m just over analyzing, but it feels like something shifted in between the end of s6 and the start of s7 following the henchim tension surrounding the madney engagement.
basically: maddiehen ftw

Sometimes I watch Hen&Chim scenes and all I can think is that if Buddie pulled this shit fandom would NEVER stop talking about it. I've seen people saying that Buck spinning out over Eddie leaving is gonna sit in stark contrast to Hen's reaction to Chim being gone when he was looking for Maddie but have we all forgotten how extremely Not Okay Hen was about that? Come on now. She didn't psychically know Jonah was a serial killer she just straight up irrationally hated him for not being Chimney.
And btw the last thing they said to each other before Chimney left was Chim saying "Karen's a lucky woman" and Hen saying "Maddie is too." Like sometimes I just sit here and think about how absolutely fucking bananas we'd be about that if it were something Buck and Eddie said to each other.
And like I'm not trying to argue that Hen and Chim have romantic feelings about each other or that Buck and Eddie don't. I'm just saying that NONE of these best friends are normal about each other.

the thing about 911 is at this point i don't have energy to invest in the theorizing. like yeah sure there are dots we can try to connect and there are things we can think are intentional. but tim minear has like a little dart board of possible ideas and that's how he chooses storylines. i am not investing my time into ANYTHING with that man running the show.
