one of the things I love about tv writers with long careers is I get to see little glimmers of characters I love in the new thing these writers create. I see so much of Zoe and wash in hen and chim, Saffron would absolutely match taylor Kelly’s freak, I feel like if you split mal’s personality in half one half would be Bobby and one half would be Buck (Buck 1.0 especially also has a little dash of Jayne god bless him).

"we might end up real close" is the craziest almost certainly unintentional foreshadowing for a pair of characters that end up as entwined as Buck and Eddie do

We're talking keys to each other's houses, "there's no one I trust with my son more than you," clawing at the earth when one is buried underneath it, army-crawling under the same object that crushed his leg and almost ruined his life so that he can save Eddie's life, "it's in my will that if something happens to me, you become Christopher's guardian," climbing up a ladder in the middle of a storm after Buck has been struck by lightning, Chris's first call being to Buck when Eddie has a breakdown, Eddie really his most vulnerable with Buck, we-might-as-well-be-coparenting-at-this-point close

in a scene full of hauntingly poignant lines, "Well you are the adult in the situation" remains the most maddening to me.

It's easy to see and understand things when you're not the one in them. Weston says to not call his dad and Eddie sees this for what it is. anger at the absence. fear at getting his heart broken again when his dad inevitably doesn't show up. but he understands. he understands that Weston still wants his dad there. that it'd be good for him if he were. so he pushes his dad to go see his son, even if he was uninvited

but when it comes to him? the adult in his own situation with Christopher? he pulls back. despite on some level understanding that the anger is a facade hiding hurt

do you think hen wakes up in the bunks sometimes in the middle of the night and sees chimney sleeping across from her and has to check his pulse. do you think chimney insists on being the person using the defib on every call. do you think about them healing together through every call, every person that they save after jonah

maddie and hen’s relationship is so fascinating to think about, especially in all the ways it’s developed offscreen. like, that’s the sister of one of hen’s close friends, and her best friend’s partner.

they’ve always existed in each other’s circle. they’re aware of each other’s struggles. they definitely care about and sympathize with each other. but it feels like for the first six seasons, they never really had a lot of time to bond one on one (not just onscreen, but also off).

maybe I’m just over analyzing, but it feels like something shifted in between the end of s6 and the start of s7 following the henchim tension surrounding the madney engagement.

the more I watch season 7 the more I’m like. man. what was season 6a even trying to do. their weird fixation on not having any Hen/Chim and Buck/Eddie scene. that inexplicable Eddie/Carla episode. the potentially traumatic storyline for Evan-I’m-just-spare-parts-Buckley reduced to a bunch of blue balls jokes. like. where they were going. was the driver even in the car.

the thing about 911 is at this point i don't have energy to invest in the theorizing. like yeah sure there are dots we can try to connect and there are things we can think are intentional. but tim minear has like a little dart board of possible ideas and that's how he chooses storylines. i am not investing my time into ANYTHING with that man running the show.

i wonder if this episode leads to eddie realizing he needs to go to texas. E7 we’re in texas with him and by E8 chris is back.

8B is then about the adjustment period and eddie sitting with what he missed and the fact that hey buddy it’s been 6 months. your child is a little different now. and maybe that leads to more discord between them. and maybe we get some denny and chris stuff? maybe eddie goes to hen about the pre-pubescent stage. maybe he goes to maddie or athena about missing parts of chris’ life and how to deal with that.
