I guess the worst part is the realisation that even when I had tears running down my cheeks, the first thing that came to your mind was how my tears are hurting your feelings. You never cared to understand the situation first and how it happened. Little do you know the tears were caused by you. You hurt me first.

My own field of mental health often makes matters worse by either advertising to patients that difficult emotions can be ERASED from their experience as humans or that difficult emotions are negative, harmful, pathological.

It’s high time, way past time, for clinicians to come alongside - as HUMANS themselves - and help patients EMBRACE their own humanity by embracing one of the most difficult parts of the human experience: DIFFICULT EMOTIONS.

Please do yourself a favor and don’t DRINK THE KOOL-AID of the woo-woo social media psychology that would FIB TO YOU that it’s possible to live WITHOUT difficult emotions such as sadness, anger, grief, depression, anxiety. Only ZOMBIES lack these normal human emotions.

I’m sure some of you reading this have been taken for a ride on the “Medication Merry-Go-Round”; being told salvation can be found at the BOTTOM of an AMBER-COLORED PILL BOTTLE or in some other drug such as magical mushrooms or mysterious weed through which you can just SMOKE those difficult emotions away.

A better way…the HUMAN way… is to radically ACCEPT and come to EMBRACE those emotions by finding PURPOSE and MEANING in them.

There’s a LIFE to be found in DISCOVERING that MEANING.
