can we talk about 8x06 confessions because id love to talk about confessions...
buddie analysis in this ep is well worn territory for good reason bc it was nuts so TRUST i agree w all of it but i wanna talk about eddie solo
first of all lets compare eddie's relationship with religion to bobby's:
in s1, when things become awkward in the confessional between bobby and father brian, bobby suggests that they move out into the pews and sit in the open, and that's where he confides in the priest man-to-man, not man-to-servant of god. and this is because bobby understands his transgressions, how the fire was technically not his fault because the building wasn't up to code, but it was also his fault because it was caused by his core issues (his addiction). Bobby's relationship with god is unwavering and he knows that god forgives unconditionally, but he craves human connection as forgiveness which is why he brings the priest out of the anonymity of the confessional box and out into the open pews. notably, once he opens up to buck chimney and hen about his past, he finds himself a lot lighter and no longer seeks the church for guidance as much even tho he remains explicitly religious. this is pushed further when he and athena bond over church, but it is essentially this human connection beyond his uniform, his "disguise," that starts his healing journey.
eddie, on the other hand, does not seek to connect personally with the priest. when things get awkward in the booth, he doesn't try to connect w him as a man because eddie is looking to be absolved by god. in fact, he pushes harder for the priest to reaffirm god's disappointment in him. he's been spiraling and cycling for so long that he doesn't know where else to turn other than the church. but then he hears from the priest that god provides unconditional love, and eddie doesn't accept that, so he leaves.
no one else around him knows that he's punishing himself in genuinely every aspect of his life so they can't absolve him (which probably wouldn't even make him start to forgive himself because neither chris nor his parents have and he feels like he wronged them personally) so it isn't until the priest, coming upon him accidentally outside of the church, not in uniform but dressed in white (like an angel) opens up to him man-to-man over the seemingly small punishment of choosing water over juice. and the priest is the only one who can connect to eddie in this way because he's also a servant by occupation.
and it's low hanging analysis but the obvious reference to the story of jesus and turning water into wine is invoked here, which is also a metaphor in the bible about balancing work and joy in life.
so eddie is absolved, not through some godly sign, but just by the priest coming to him as another human because god already forgave him because that's what He does. but only because it came unplanned from a Godly figure at a location OUTSIDE THE CHURCH does it work. and he takes off his disguise. This is crazy work because eddie considers himself to not be superstitious or religious yet is the deepest believer in signs and punishments …
the other thing this ep does is that even outside of eddie's storyline, a lot of it is About Eddie. The well call, the divorce call, the cold open call about being "haunted" by a dead woman. The well and divorce calls were for chimney and buck's developments respectively, but they're directly tied to eddie.
the well being the well #obvi but the divorce call first styling the wife like shannon, then featuring the man who sneezed (little outbursts) after telling lies, which resulted in him rupturing his sutures and spilling out. it's a metaphor for repression. i said that as a joke over on twitter a few days before the ep aired but then it actually rang true.. he tried to hold it in and still get away with lying, but it caught up to him and now he metaphorically can't take the truth back because its spilled out. CRAZY WORK. chad and andrew we may need to have words
#9-1-1#911 on abc#buddie#eddie diaz#evan buckley#911 abc#buck and eddie#evan buck buckley#911#text#going to do a buck-T post soon because now there was some cray stuff there outside of the buddie of it all eeee

Now that I finally finished that multichapter fic I think it's time to self-promote my Bucktommy collection on ao3 once more. They all take place in the same continuity and are sorted chronologically, but each story can be read independently.
"But in this life I met you" is about Tommy who, some months into his relationship with Buck, starts questioning his and Eddie's respective places in Buck's life. (3.6k, Bucktommy endgame, I repeat Bucktommy endgame. Yes, Buddie is mentioned and Tommy is a little insecure about it, but no romantic Buddie.)
"Tommy meets Evan" is a very short oneshot about the first couple of meetings between Tommy and Buck. (Tommy's pov, 1.3k. This is mostly me trying to get into LFJ's head and understand certain acting choices.)
"Most people call it falling in love" is yet another oneshot from Tommy's pov. He's being very normal (read, freaking out) about how much he likes Buck after only three months of dating and goes to Henren for advice about it. (feelings realisation, 3,7k.)
"Love and Lack thereof" is the multichapter fic I just finished this weekend. It's basically a "Tommy begins" type of story. Covers his childhood, his time in the army, his coming back to LA and finding a place for himself until he eventually meets Buck. (6 chapters, sort of angsty but in a very grounded / realistic way as I'm told. 28.5k.)
"I wouldn't know what to do with myself" is the odd one out, sort of, I wrote it before 7x10 aired. In the hospital Buck and Athena sit together for a while and wait for news on Bobby. They talk about all sorts of things while waiting, including Tommy. (ngl this one is more about Buck&Bobby than Buck/Tommy, but I included it anyway. 2.5k.)
I was also working on a story where Tommy and Karen bond and have a conversation about kids and the foster system, but I got sidetracked and wrote the Tommy origin story instead. (Both projects feature Tommy as a former foster kid.) Might still continue this though.
I have an almost finished proposal fic, but it's way too cheesy for my liking. I might need to edit that one a few times before I deem it worthy of publication. (I know the show itself is also very cheesy, at this point it's almost a soap and I do enjoy the drama. But I prefer a hint more realism in my own writing.)
Then there's this break up / make up story I've been thinking about non-stop, this is maybe my favourite wip right now. It needs a lot of work though, I would really put Buck through the wringer here.
That's it for now, if any of the wips pique your interest feel free to ask follow up questions, the links to the completed fics should all be working.

Honey I’m hooome! It’s been so long so I’ve decided to change things up a little bit.
Today I’m doing a rundown of chapters 11 to 13 of Time in a Bottle!
Chapter 11: The last chapter I read before I went on my beach trip.
I really love the way Buck and Gabe’s friendship was showcased and the way he’s helping Buck no questions asked.
Harry was sooo, I loved him. The fact that Tommy blamed himself? :((( and Harry blaming Buck on his behalf LOL I loved it.
The bit about the bubbles was genius, the pops in between and the constant chewing of fingernails? I’m obsessed. I knew something like this was going to happen but I didn’t expect it to hurt so much. You have the spider and Tommy being pretty aggressive towards it to the point of wanting to use foggers to get rid of ONE single spider I-. Then you have Tommy getting so frustrated he screams at Buck. And the you have… the bathroom scene, Tommy having one of those episodes and shutting down until Buck is on his face, and then as they lay together Tommy is still trapped in his mind thinking this is hallucination Evan.
The part where the man attempts to kill Tommy and that transitioning into a nightmare scene in the present? I felt like I was hit in the gut. Tommy in the past trying to hold on and reminding himself to do so by picturing Evan it’s just too much sobs, and the little detail of even the music being quieter than usual? ugh I’m not crying you are. Both Buck and Tommy not being fine and lying to each other never ceases to make me yell at my screen.
Buck and Eddie fighting is just… the tension, the change of their relationship is agghh perfectly done.
I love Bobby with every appearance he makes. Him knowing Buck is not well and letting him use his office so he can keep investigating? Him in the present feeling proud of Buck because he knows the distrust he feels towards the rest will affect how they work together? Him seeing right through Buck facade that they’re okay when they’re not?
The glass scene… Tommy not caring about being safe and just taking the glass with his hands? him staying completely still when Buck told him so? Buck finally bringing up therapy? TOMMY QUITTING HIS JOB? ughh that ending CJ
Chapter 12: the bottle chapter of time in a bottle, featuring me freaking out about it.
First of all, I loved how the entire chapter was just one entire fight, it was a really good way to see the boys finally letting out their frustrations and angers and fears.
Second, I love how both of them reacted pretty much similar to each other’s news: You have Buck being all “But you love your job!” “Why would you quit?!” over Tommy quitting, and you have Tommy being all “You’re joking “ and “They’re your family!” over Buck switching to the B shift.
The bit of Tommy not even trusting himself in the air? whyyyy cries
All the “dream world” bits? I was being stabbed multiple times CJ.
When they talked about Eddie… I knew Tommy was gonna think he was right.
Both Buck and Tommy knowing what the other is hiding and revealing it all in that way was so heartbreaking, they were hitting all those points that hurt the other and it was hit after hit man.
“Back the fuck away from me, Evan” I’m sorry but everytime he lets out an Evan my breath hitches.
Tommy talking about how he doesn’t feel like a human and that his kidnapper took everything from him and still lives in his memories? A homicide has been committed and I was the victim.
Tommy pushing Buck away… I knew it, I knew it would happen and yet, it hurt so fucking bad. And Buck not saying anything as he prepares and then leaves? COLD CJ, COLD.
Chapter 13: where I’m constantly screaming because my guys are going through the consequences of their bond being broken.
Tommy’s rage bottling up and exploding when Eddie goes to see him? Finally the fight scene? Tommy kicking the shit out of Eddie? Eddie accidentally triggering Tommy by following him down the house? damn CJ
I was surprised, but in a good way?, of Eddie being the person Tommy opens up to about things that happened. It made so much sense to me because he wasn’t going to tell Buck that because he doesn’t want to hold him down, and he’s not going to say it to Chim or Hen because he thinks they’ll pity him. I do wonder what if Bobby had come to see him.
And the fact that he hasn’t listened to Buck’s voicemail…
I got emotional at the way both of them couldn’t really handle being apart: Buck tries to bake again and it goes from bad to terrible, to the point where he’s crying and having breathing problems, and then he can’t sleep by himself; Tommy tries fixing his car, tries to make sure everything’s safe, he has an episode AND a panic attack and just can’t be without Buck I- sobs
Gabe my man, I love this guy and idk why but I’d like to see him hanging out with Buck and Tommy, I feel like they would all have fun together.
The fact that it was Tommy who broke his own leg… DIABOLICAL CJ, DIABOLICAL.
Tommy remembering what happened the night he was abducted… I want to wrap him in my arms and soothe him :(((
The fact that Tommy had been crying for hours killed me, and the fact that Buck answered immediately and left the loft as soon as Tommy was calling destroyed me.
My guys falling asleep together and finally deciding to go to therapy, I’m so happy for them.
My God this was a lot, but the chapters were just so good CJ I can’t believe how good the story has been, the progression of Tommy and how he’s finally ready to get proper help, and Buck who’s also got his own trauma and is ready to deal with it. I just love this story so much. Really excited for whatever's coming (and yes I already read chapter 14 too)
– bisexualbrainrots
Ahhhh I love this (and you) so much!! As always, you pointed out all the little things I added in ❤️
I feel like I never say enough to you, but I always just end up really happy and smiley after I read your messages, but I lack words 😊
Thank you 💕

Let’s dive into the canon queer representation in 9-1-1 and its spin-off 9-1-1: Lone Star. Both shows, created under the Ryan Murphy umbrella, have made significant strides in featuring queer characters as integral parts of their narratives, often embedding their identities into the fabric of the high-stakes first-responder world. Here’s a look at how each series handles its queer representation, the characters involved, and the impact of their portrayals.
9-1-1: Queer Representation in the Original Series
9-1-1, which premiered on Fox and moved to ABC for its seventh season, has consistently included queer characters from the jump, weaving their stories into the ensemble cast of Los Angeles firefighters, paramedics, and dispatchers. The show doesn’t shy away from making these characters central to its emotional and dramatic arcs.
Henrietta "Hen" Wilson: Introduced in the pilot, Hen (played by Aisha Hinds) is a Black lesbian firefighter and paramedic at Station 118. Her queerness is established early—by Season 1, Episode 5 ("Point of Origin"), we meet her wife, Karen Wilson, and learn about their family life. Hen’s relationship with Karen (Tracie Thoms), a rocket scientist, is a cornerstone of the series, showcasing a stable, loving partnership that faces real-world challenges like parenting, infidelity (via Hen’s ex, Eva), and fostering kids. Their story isn’t just background noise—it’s given depth, with arcs like their struggle to adopt and Karen’s near-death experience in Season 6 highlighting their resilience. Hen’s identity as a queer woman of color also intersects with her professional life, where she navigates racism and sexism, making her a standout example of layered representation.
Karen Wilson: Karen complements Hen as a brilliant, supportive spouse. She’s not just "the wife"—her career and personal growth get screen time, like when she returns to work after a lab explosion in Season 6. Their marriage, complete with its highs (renewing vows in Season 3) and lows (Eva’s interference), offers a rare portrayal of a long-term queer relationship on network TV that feels lived-in and authentic.
Evan "Buck" Buckley: Buck (Oliver Stark) became a bisexual icon in Season 7, Episode 4 ("Buck, Bothered and Bewildered"), when he kisses Tommy Kinard. His journey to this point had been speculated by fans for years, with many pointing to queer-coded moments—like his intense bond with Eddie Diaz—as evidence. Buck’s coming out isn’t a one-off; it’s explored as he navigates his first same-sex relationship with Tommy, grappling with jealousy, self-discovery, and acceptance from his team. While some fans hoped for a Buck/Eddie ("Buddie") romance, Buck’s bisexuality is a historic move for a main character on a primetime procedural, especially given his prior womanizing persona. It’s a shift that feels earned, not forced, and opens new storytelling avenues.
Tommy Kinard: Introduced in Season 2 as a firefighter at the 118, Tommy (Lou Ferrigno Jr.) returns in Season 7 as an openly gay helicopter pilot. His relationship with Buck marks the show’s first canon male/male romance among the core cast. Tommy’s chill, confident demeanor contrasts with Buck’s chaos, and their dynamic—kicking off with that pivotal kiss—adds a fresh queer layer to the series. He’s not just a love interest; his history with the 118 ties him to the show’s world organically.
Michael Grant: Bobby Nash’s ex-wife’s new partner, Michael (Rockmond Dunbar), is gay and appears in Seasons 1-5. A Black architect, he co-parents with Athena and faces his own challenges, like a brain tumor diagnosis. His relationship with Dr. David Hale (introduced in Season 4) offers another positive depiction of a queer couple, though his exit in Season 5 (due to actor vaccine mandate issues) cuts their story short.
Josh Russo: A recurring gay dispatcher (Bryan Safi), Josh has been around since Season 1. His queerness is casual—mentioned in passing, like his dating woes—but he’s a reliable part of the 911 call center, often providing comic relief or emotional support (e.g., helping Maddie after her abduction in Season 5).
The queer representation in 9-1-1 stands out for its diversity—spanning race, gender, and relationship stages—and its refusal to sideline these characters. Hen and Karen’s marriage predates Buck’s arc by years, proving the show’s commitment to queer stories wasn’t a late addition. Buck’s bisexuality, while a fan-driven triumph, builds on this foundation, making 9-1-1 a procedural where queer identities aren’t just token gestures but lived experiences.
9-1-1: Lone Star: Queer Representation in the Spin-Off
Launched on Fox, 9-1-1: Lone Star takes the franchise to Austin, Texas, and doubles down on queer representation from the outset. With a smaller main cast, its queer characters carry significant narrative weight, often driving the show’s emotional core.
Tyler Kennedy "TK" Strand: TK (Ronen Rubinstein), the son of fire captain Owen Strand, is a gay paramedic with a complex backstory—addiction, heartbreak, and a move from New York to Texas. His queerness is explicit from the pilot, and his romance with Carlos Reyes becomes the show’s beating heart. TK’s journey—overdose recovery, proposing to Carlos, and their Season 4 wedding—marks a rare network TV arc where a gay man’s love story is front and center. Rubinstein has spoken about the role’s personal impact, noting how it helped him embrace his own fluid sexuality.
Carlos Reyes: A gay Latino police officer (Rafael L. Silva), Carlos starts as TK’s fling but evolves into his husband. Their "Tarlos" relationship is a fan favorite, blending steamy chemistry with grounded struggles—think TK’s relapses or Carlos’s family tensions. Silva, a queer actor, brings authenticity to Carlos, whose coming-out to his traditional parents in Season 1 and eventual acceptance in later seasons resonate deeply. Their wedding in Season 4, Episode 4 ("Abandoned") is a milestone—mainstream TV rarely gives gay couples such a celebratory spotlight.
Paul Strickland: Paul (Brian Michael Smith) is a Black transgender firefighter, a groundbreaking role played by a trans actor. Introduced in the pilot, Paul’s trans identity isn’t a plot device—it’s part of who he is. His backstory (revealed in Season 1, Episode 3, "Texas Proud") shows his transition and family rejection, but the show focuses on his present: a skilled firefighter with sharp instincts. Paul dates in Season 2 (Ashanti) and Season 5 (Josie), offering a trans man’s romantic life without tragedy porn. Smith has emphasized the role’s importance in showing trans people as everyday heroes.
Nancy Gillian: Introduced as a bisexual paramedic in Season 2 (replacing Liv Tyler’s Michelle), Nancy (Brianna Baker) is a newer addition to the queer roster. Her bisexuality is subtle—confirmed via a fling with a woman in Season 3—but she’s a badass team member, often paired with TK and Tommy Vega. Her inclusion broadens the show’s queer spectrum without overexplaining it.
Lone Star leans harder into queer narratives than its predecessor, with TK and Carlos’s romance rivaling any straight couple on network TV for screen time and depth. Paul’s trans storyline, while less romance-focused, breaks barriers by normalizing a trans first responder. The show’s boldness—three queer main characters from day one—sets it apart, though its smaller ensemble means fewer queer voices overall compared to 9-1-1’s growing list.
Comparing the Two Shows
Both series excel at integrating queer characters into their high-octane worlds, but their approaches differ:
Volume vs. Depth: 9-1-1 has more queer characters (six canonically confirmed), reflecting its larger cast and longer run. Lone Star has fewer (four), but their stories—especially TK and Carlos’s—get deeper focus, with multi-season arcs culminating in a wedding. 9-1-1 spreads its queer representation across more lives, like Hen’s family and Buck’s awakening, while Lone Star bets big on its core trio.
Diversity: Both shows prioritize intersectionality. 9-1-1 features Black lesbians (Hen, Karen), a Black gay man (Michael), and a white bisexual man (Buck), plus Tommy and Josh. Lone Star offers a gay white man (TK), a gay Latino man (Carlos), a Black trans man (Paul), and a Black bisexual woman (Nancy). This range ensures queer identities aren’t monolithic, reflecting race, gender, and cultural nuances.
Narrative Role: In 9-1-1, queer characters are part of the ensemble—vital, but not always the A-plot (Buck’s arc aside). Lone Star makes TK and Carlos’s relationship a tentpole storyline, often tying it to the show’s emotional stakes (e.g., their wedding amid a serial killer arc). Paul’s transness, while less spotlighted, is a quiet constant, normalizing his presence.
Cultural Impact: 9-1-1’s move to Buck’s bisexuality in 2024 grabbed headlines, partly due to its fanbase’s Buddie obsession and the show’s network shift. Lone Star made waves earlier, with GLAAD praising its trans and gay representation from 2020. Both have pushed network TV boundaries—Lone Star with its upfront queer leads, 9-1-1 with its slow-burn queer evolution.
Strengths and Critiques
Strengths: Both shows avoid stereotypes—Hen’s not a tragic lesbian, Paul’s not a token trans martyr, and TK and Carlos defy the "bury your gays" trope with a happy ending (so far). They’re heroes first, queer second, which normalizes their presence. The casting—queer and trans actors like Silva and Smith—adds authenticity.
Critiques: Some argue 9-1-1 flirted with queerbaiting via Buck and Eddie’s bond, only delivering on Buck’s queerness after years of subtext. Lone Star has been praised for Tarlos but criticized for not giving Paul’s romantic life equal weight. Neither show has asexual or non-binary characters yet, a gap in broader LGBTQ+ representation.
Conclusion
9-1-1 and 9-1-1: Lone Star showcase canon queer representation that’s rare for procedurals—diverse, central, and unapologetic. 9-1-1 builds a wide queer tapestry over time, with Buck’s arc as its latest triumph. Lone Star dives in headfirst, making queer love and identity its backbone. Together, they prove first-responder dramas can be a space for queer heroes, not just straight saviors, setting a bar network TV is still catching up to.

My 8x01 Summary & Thoughts
Okay, I just watched the premiere of season 8, so I'm going to try my best to get out all of my thoughts. (There are a few things I didn't bring up, this is just everything I thought was important and would tie into what happens in the next two episodes.)
(I tagged this as 911 spoilers, but I'm adding a warning now. Under the cut is SPOILERS)
First of all, the music decisions for the this episode? Amazing. Love the fact that they used songs about bees. It was whimsy, which I love.
Gerrard was as annoying as I thought he would be and I loved everyone's reactions to him. I was surprised Buck didn't punch him, but I'm not surprised that Buck saved him while also inadvertently hurting him in the process. I hope this will put Gerrard out of commission for the next episode, but I don't have much fate that they'd bring back Bobby for the plane crash emergency.
Speaking of Bobby, I'm very sad that he had like three scenes this entire episode. Hopefully, we get more of him in the second episode, because I was wondering where he was. I do love that the lead actor on Hotshots wants to emulate after Bobby, because I'm sure Bobby's just itching to get someone to listen to him about the inaccuracies of the show. I hope Bobby gets to come back to the 118 soon.
As everyone speculated, Athena was tasked with escorting her late fiancé's killer, Dennis Jenkins (that's the killer, if it wasn't clear). But it's not enough that the plane she was on crashing was in her immediate feature, someone's out to kill Jenkins. All I can say about this is, I hope they don't put her through too much trauma. She's been through so much already these past seven seasons.
I'm lumping these two together since the majority of what they had this episode was together, and these two are Hen and Chimney. Chimney is bonding with Mara over Harry Potter, which I personally love them bonding. I also love the fact that Dennis, Karen, and Hen seem to come over to the Han house a lot to spend dinner so they can see Mara. Hen and Karen have a foster lawyer, so hopefully that will help with getting their foster license and Mara back. Definitely seeing signs of there maybe being friction between Hen and Chim soon about Chim and Mara bonding.
Eddie was going through it in this episode. First he has a very awkward happy birthday FaceTime call with Chris where Chris so clearly is still not happy with Eddie and Eddie has to find out that Chris is enjoying his time away in Texas. And then Buck suggests they lather Eddie in perfume to help get a drowning vic who has a swarm of bees over her out of the pool. It was very serious, but I couldn't stop laughing at the sight of him running around to attract all of the bees to him so Hen and Chim could go save the drowning girl.
Buck was very much butting heads with Gerrard. Every idea he had to deal with the bees (and they were good ideas), had Gerrard mad at him and then Gerrard even stole credit of the smoke idea. He also kept getting latrine duty, too. In the end, though, he did save Gerrard from getting sliced apart by a saw breaking and the blade flying in Gerrard's direction. And then, as I said, he inadvertently injured Gerrard by pushing him down (again, to save ) and giving him a head injury.
All in all, while there were some things that left me wanting for more (which is not unusual, there was a lot going on this episode), I did enjoy this episode. And it did, in my opinion, set up the rest of the season as something that was exciting and something that I'm looking forward to watch. I can't wait to see what the rest of the season has in store for us.

Top 10 of who might come back this season – my wrong guesses only
In no particular order:
The raccoon: Starts to cause mischief around Buck's loft, marking the beginnings of Buddie Roommate Era.
Hildy: Comes back to haunt Eddie as they release a new kind of feature close to ChatGPT. Eddie is very triggered by all this.
Christmas Elf Lady: She now works at some other place. Buck and Eddie took Jee-Yun and Christopher there, and she comments on how the family's growing fast. This time, Eddie hears her and goes like WTF. Buck thanks her again. But he won't comment to Eddie, much to the man's annoyance and irritation.
Cursed bracelet: After Buck got hit by lightning, Eddie finds the thing in his backpack and is ready to lose his shit.
Lou Ransone (even though it hasn't been long since we've last seen him): He thinks he's finally safe from Taylor Kelly to insert herself into his investigations, formerly fueled by her relationship with Buck. But then she comes back and he just nopes the hell out again.
Ana Flores: She stopped working as a teacher and now runs a bakery into the ground, as she makes way too many cupcakes that she can't ever sell.
Lena Bosko: We'd love to see her again, simple as that. Also, she visits Eddie to show around the cat she finally got. And then continues to laugh when she realizes he and Buck still didn't get a move. Poor baby gays.
Tapeworm Boy and Goat Yoga Gal: They bonded over their gross accidents after they saw it on social media or whatever. Only for both of them to be stuck with something even grosser together this time.
Buck's “therapist” in season 1: She is involved in some accident. Eddie is his pettiest self and Bobby has to tell him that it's not okay to leave her there. Eddie is still ready to throw hands, though.
Chase Mackey: He only appears again to ask Buck if he wants to sue the city for not protecting him from fuckin' lightning.

Thoughts on 6x11
Gotta admit I love an episode where all other characters are worried about another especially if it is my favourite character. Buck just needs a hug and to be told he is loved and I finally FINALLY think he's believing that he is important and loved.
Loved Olivers acting choices and the fact you could see him mentally fighting and redeeming himself.
Was I happy with the Buckley parents redemption...no, happened to easily but we know things happen in the background and who's to say the build up of events, therapy and the sudden realisation that they could actually loose their only son may have given them the kicking they needed.
This episode was fabulous and I will be watching it a few more times in the coming days and I loved Chris calling for Buck to come back to him. Bobby finally being recognised out loud as caring for Buck as a son (praying for some more Mama Athena in later episodes)
Now I am firmly in the Buddie camp so was I disappointed Eddie wasn't featured more? Well...yes but that doesn't take away from the bonds they did show onscreen.
I wanted Buck to have a soulmate 'Oh it's you' moment but alas I think my wishes are to be forever ignored.
I just read an interview clip where it's stated that the end of season 6 will also be the end of Buddie and while that saddens me for the groundbreaking TV that could've been I just don't think viewers could handle it. Back to beloved fanfiction where I can live in hope.

The baby names talk that Chim has with Buck and Eddie obviously gave us the biggest, cutest Buddie moments of the ep (with that leaning together against the truck as Eddie talks about naming Chris, those shared knowing looks and laughter at the end, even the way they walk off together). What I really like about it is the choice of who’s in it. Hen is right there on the scene, she’s a parent, she might have been a part of naming Denny while she was still with Eva. Buck is def not a parent and has no experience naming children (and we all, clearly including Chim, remember his not so imaginative suggestions in ep 404), he really shouldn’t be a part of this conversation. Yet the writers didn’t make it Eddie that Chim consults or Eddie and Hen, they chose to make it Eddie and Buck. Because Buddie are a unit. Invite Buck and you’ll be inviting Eddie. Consult Eddie and you’ll be consulting Buck, too. It is known.
If you’ve read my weekly meta posts before, then you know I always take a second to scream about Buddie being battlefield boyfriends. We get that here, too. When Bobby gets to the driver’s car, Buck and Eddie are already working on it together, and later when extricating Albert, we get to see not only the two of them doing it together, but also the looks and the reassuring non-verbal communication they share as they do. Bestest firefighting husbands ever!
I find it interesting that right after Bobby narrates in the background about someone being at the bottom and finding there the clarity needed to pull themselves back up, we see a short scene of Eddie hugging Chris. Obviously Eddie was affected by having to rescue Jacob, the kid from the accident. But Chris wasn’t featured in any other way in this ep. It felt very similar to me to the way that we got a short, lovely scene with Eddie and Chris at the end of 402 with Carla narrating in the background, after Chris wasn’t a part of that ep at all, nor of 401 (which 402 is the direct continuation of). BTW, it’s not the only parallel between the openings of 4a (402) and 4b (409): both also have a climax which is a birthing scene intercut with a scene where a life is in danger and that ends up being saved. In 402, that birthing scene involved Chim and led to him being able to step up as a future dad, and in 409, Chim was there at the birthing scene and it’s when he finally got to meet his daughter. I’m saying, these eps were built to parallel. So it’s no accident we got in both of them those little added Chris and Eddie scenes showing the love between the Diaz boys, seemingly out of nowhere at the end of the ep, with the meaningful narration, about unbreakable bonds in 4a and about the need to fight to get out of a low spot in 4b. I feel like this is a part of the build up towards whatever conclusion Eddie’s arc will have in season 4 overall. I’m really looking forward to seeing the rest of it play out.
It’s not quite the same, because Albert is an adult, not a kid, plus he wasn’t Buck’s responsibility at the time of the accident, yet I couldn’t help thinking of how much more devastated Buck was when he had to tell Eddie that Chris was missing (to the point of almost being in denial about having to face Eddie) than when he had to tell Chim that Albert was in an accident and unconscious. Albert is Buck’s friend, current roommate and family through Madney’s bond. Buck is obviously upset when he hears Albert was in the pile up and does everything possible to help him. But when he tells Chim the news, it’s still not the near breakdown he had over Chris. And the show chooses to cut off without us seeing how Buck tells Chim the news. This show tends to frame the off-calls drama within family units. Bobby and Athena will have to deal with his alcoholism, Karen and Hen have to deal together with the possibility of losing Nia, and so on. Buck is a part of the extended Madney clan, but his biggest drama played out with Eddie and Chris. Much like Buck was framed with them as a family unit in the Xmas dinner scene in ep 310, and even though it’s not official, they’re a family, too.
Thank you so much to my incredible friend @bicepsie for making these beautiful gifs to go with my meta! Also, if you like my takes on Buddie, you can find more of my meta and fics for them here. Thank you in advance for any like, comment and of course reblog! I really appreciate everything! xoxox

Back to the 118 // Evan Buckley
IN WHICH: Buck meets the firefighter he replaced as the reader transfers back to the 118. The reader never expected to fall for a co-worker the first day back at the 118 after two years spent at the 155 in Los Feliz.
Warnings: Swearing, sickness, hospitals, health issues, pregnancy, angst and a shit ton of fluff
Words: 5.9k
A/N: So this is obviously a modern au for jatp to fit in the 911 universe. To make this work, Buck replaced Reader instead of Tommy after many failed probies. Eddie then later replaced Tommy.

Your e/c eyes scanned the outward appearance of the first firehouse you’d worked at fresh out of the Academy. The place that had become a second home from the increased tension-filled house your parents still lived in. A place you had escaped as quickly as you could for a dream career. A career your parents hadn’t been proud of in the beginning, with the danger that came with being a firefighter paramedic.
“You the new recruit?”
Your eyes fell from the building to the male individual standing near the open bay the engine and ladder truck both used. The male in question must have joined the 118 after you transferred to the 155. The stranger towered at least six feet minimum with blue eyes and short blonde hair with the slightest wave.
“No-”
“Flint!” The excited voice of the only other female paramedic called out. You only saw dark navy before you were pretty much tackled.
Hen and Chimney had equally taken you under their wings when you initially joined as a rookie. You’d been the second female firefighter-paramedic at the 118 and the youngest by far. As if you’d summoned him, you felt the arms of Chimney sandwich you against Hen.
“Flint?” The stranger parroted, blinking his eyes at the rather unusual scene of Chimney and Hen wrapped around an unknown girl.
“What are you doing here?” Chimney questioned, stepping back. Hen scoured your entire form for any differences that had occurred.
“Y/N decided to come home,” Bobby spoke from a few feet behind the reunion with the beaming smile on his features. His lips pulled into a smile directed at the first recruit he’d taken on his first year at the 118.
“Bobby!” You grinned, meeting the father figure in the middle of the distance between you two. Bobby wrapped you up in his arms tightly, a certain lightness cocooning the Captain as he took in his friends.
“You’re back here?”
“Everything is squared back at home now, thankfully, and while I loved working with the 155, it wasn’t home. This will always be home.”
“Buck, this is Y/N Patterson. She worked her first two years with the 118 before transferring to the 155 in Los Feliz. Y/N, this is one of our newest members, Evan Buckley.” Bobby gestured towards the previously nameless firefighter.
“Who would leave the 118?” Buck questioned, unable to come up with a valid reason to leave the family at 118.
Buck’s opinion didn’t stand with his only workplace after successfully becoming a firefighter solely was the 118. Never had he worked in another firehouse. He’d been a fire marshall and volunteered his time in the Austin wildfire, but he always came home to the 118.
“Family issues.”
2018, Firehouse 118, Los Angeles
A fresh-faced, albeit dirty from sweat and soot, jumped down from the engine truck’s high steps. The synchronized slam of doors sounded from your colleagues and friends Hen and Chimney. All three individuals famished for the casserole Bobby had premade during the slow morning.
“Baked Mac n’ Cheese.” Tommy breathed from his position by the driver side. Tommy Kinard was a stoic man towering over six feet. He was always a gentle giant after you’d bonded after a hard call.
“Clean up, and I’ll have it in the oven. It’s Chimney’s time to make the salad and Flint’s turn to set the table.” Bobby spoke with barely a glance to the ground ahead of him.
Your Captain jogged towards the stairs, whereas his team made their way to the locker rooms for a well-deserved shower. You and Hen split away from Tommy and Chimney to the women’s locker room that had gotten an upgrade.
Well, before you joined the Academy, the locker room had been used as a glorified game room, all thanks to the misogynist Captain from hell. Hen often had over the years mentioned how lucky you got with Bobby being your first Captain.
“Chimney better not put those onions like he did last time.” You spoke from under the stream of warm water. Nothing beat the warmth of a shower near the end of your shift erasing the evidence of your job.
“Man needs to learn the complimentary salad to the main dish.” Hen piped up from across the shower room.
You and Hen had both showered and redressed in a fresh uniform in under five minutes, the dirty one placed in a laundry bag. You’d managed to beat the boys to the upstairs by a few seconds. Enough to set half of the able before Chimney began to making his salad of choice.
“Looks great, Cap.” Tommy complimented the gooey homemade pasta Bobby religious made every third Thursday. He alternated between pasta recipes with the odd new recipe every once in a while.
“What are you waiting for? The bell?” Bobby quipped to the unmoving bunch of hungry individuals. His words started the boisterous meal time preceding the end of shift.
“So, we’re halfway through dinner and Amber-” Your phone interrupted the disaster date Tommy had begun telling. He continued as soon as you waved him to go ahead while you took the call.
“Hello?” You breathed into the phone.
“Hi, sweetheart.” The warmth infused in your mom’s voice soothed the ruffled feathers from the call you’d come back from, “How are you?”
“I’m good! We just finished eating. My shift is almost over, and I’ll have to go straight to the store for groceries-”
“Y/N, we found him.”
The him was easy to figure out given your brother had run away from home three months prior with only his dreams in mind. You’d spent most of your off time, sometimes even during shift out on a call, to scan the environment for Luke. You became a regular in questioning hospitals and homeless shelters.
“Where was he?”
“His band had been about to play at some big venue last night.” Mom’s word choice concerned you. Her voice dripped with sadness instead of the typical disappointment and annoyance on anything to do with Sunset Curve.
“Mom, what’s going on?”
“A few nights ago, the boys got hotdogs-”
“Streetdogs.” You interrupted with evident anger in your tone at the mention of those death dogs Luke consumed. You can’t even give a number to how many times you had told him how unsanitary and dangerous the food is.
“Something was wrong with the food. They got ill fast. Alex and Reggie are being kept for observation but will be found with a few days of rest.”
“What about Luke?”
“He tried to call 911; he was weak and fell. Y/N, he hit his head. He’s in the ICU in a coma.” Emily Patterson’s voice cracked as soon as she acknowledged the current state of her youngest child.
The colours of the world dulled as soon as your mind clicked that Luke was in the hospital. Your little brother had put himself in danger all because he had a big dream. Your mind flashed through your life growing up with him.
You remembered talking to your mom’s growing bump when she was pregnant with Luke. You remembered five-year-old Luke unable to settle unless you sang to him. Your voice was nothing special, but it soothed the little boy when he had a nightmare. You could vividly recall teaching Luke how to play the guitar when he was thirteen; the brunette a complete natural at it.
“What’s his prognosis?”
“Too early to tell. The doctor is hoping Luke will be in a general room after tomorrow if the swelling goes down. I wanted you to know as soon as possible.”
“How’s Dad?”
Emily hesitated from her position by a hospital bed. Her brown eyes carefully scanning the male sleeping soundly in the bed.
“Mom?”
“Your father had a heart attack last night. That’s why I haven’t been able to tell you sooner. He’s currently sleeping, but he’ll have a barrage of tests later today-”
“I’ll be there as soon as my shif-”
“No. Don’t drop anything. I can keep you up.”
“Excuse my language, but there’s no way in hell I’m staying away from my family. I’ll take a few days off. I’ll see you in a couple hours.” Your thumb tapped the red circle on the bottom of your screen.
The 118 didn’t bother pretending they hadn’t been watching your form during your phone call. Bobby felt like something had drastically changed in a few minutes you’d been busy on the phone.
“Everything okay?” Bobby inquired from his position at the kitchen sink. His hands in the sudsy water to scrub the empty pan.
“My brother and my father are in hospital. I’m gonna need some days off.” You informed your boss with a look of utter defeat coating your expression.
Those few days transitioned to transferring to the closest firehouse to your childhood home and the hospital. The medical bills from both your brother and father had begun to overwhelm your mother with the current single source of income. Emily didn’t ask you for anything, but you started renting the home you’d bought for extra money.
It was a silent agreement that you paid rent as a cover to helping with the bills piling up.
Present Day, Firehouse 118
Buck followed behind the welcoming group to the girl that seemed larger than life. Buck was impressed by the sacrifice you’d made for the good of your family. You’d willingly given up the family of the 118. Buck didn’t know if he could do the same.
“Welcome back.” Hen cheered on her guidance to the heaven everyone called the kitchen. Your department issue duffle bag dropped out of the wall on the top level.
Your eyes zeroed in on the spread of your favourite foods prepared by the only person aware of your return. It was only one look of gratitude towards the father figure before everyone dug in.
A few changes had occurred since you’d last sat at this table. Tommy Kinard had left the 118 for the 217 shortly after your departure. He’d been replaced by the ready to impress Buck. One thing that hadn’t changed was the delicious food Bobby made.
Your eyes found the sole empty chair at the long table, “Didn’t you say the house took on two new recruits since I left?”
“Buck took your position when you left. We had a revolving door of firefighters before Buck permanently joined.” Chimney supplied with a mouth full of lettuce and grated carrot. Hen whacked his arm for his lack of manners.
“You’ll meet Eddie on the next shift. He took the day off. It’s his son’s first birthday since his mom died.” Bobby informed you with that pinched wrinkle between his eyebrows, “He joined after Tommy left.”
“Well, I can’t wait to meet the entire team.” You replied, looking past to the circular table behind Bobby’s spot. Sam and Ryan both waved happily upon catching sight of you back at your unspoken seat.
You listened intently as Hen shared the changes Denny had gone through in the time you’d been away. Chimney was ecstatic to point out the faint scar on his forehead.
“You had rebar go through your skull, and you’re completely fine?” You questioned, floored by the pure luck Chimney had.
“Oh, it was nasty. Went in from the back of the skull to the front.” Buck spoke enthusiastically, recounting the scene. Chimney deadpanned a look at his younger coworker, “Oh, sorry.”
“It’s like you never had it happen.”
“Doc was shocked at how positive the outcome and healing was. I was back at work within a month on light duty. I beat my record getting in my turnout gear.”
“And yet my little brother was comatose for two months.” You grumbled under your breath. None of the people could make out the words, but the grimace on your face was enough to show them it was personal.
In true 118 fashion, the bell rang throughout the firehouse with the disembodied voice declaring the type and location. Yoru e/c eyes found Buck climbing into the driver’s seat where Tommy had once commandeered. It was odd not having the man who’d became an older brother to you.
“How’re your parents?” Hen questioned, sitting diagonally from you. Her fingers repositioning the radio on her chest.
“Dad’s recovering pretty good. Mom’s started attending her knitting club again.”
Buck’s eyes raised to the rearview mirror to meet yours in interest, “What happened?”
“Uh...my dad had a heart attack a couple years ago. He took a long time to recover with the further stress that caused it.” You piped up, understanding the news would come out at some point, “My little brother was in an accident that left him in a coma. Life was just as messy after he woke up.”
“He’s okay?” Chimney questioned, “I know we’ve never met them, but it really gutted you.”
“Well, physically, he’s fine, but emotionally he’s upset. He was in a band, and when he came out of the coma, he found out some devastating news.” You continued to explain, but unfortunately, or maybe, fortunately, you’d come to the scene.
It was a little known place most teenagers discovered as a hang out spot just on the edge between your county and the next. The location was the infamous spot of cliff jumping; you knew because this was something you’d recklessly done in high school.
“He’s over here!” A blonde male of average height called from the edge of the cliff. His blue eyes were bright even from this distance, matching the detailing on his swim trunks.
Surrounding the edge with the boy was a group of teenagers his age, all in different versions of swimsuits. You found the scared brown eyes of a beautiful girl you vaguely knew from the few shows of Sunset Curve you had watched. Her dark blonde hair plaited out of her face. Her face clicked as Carrie Wilson, Bobby’s sister or cousin.
You jogged towards the edge of the cliff to look over. It was easily between fifteen to twenty feet from the edge of the cliff to the water. You recognized Hen crouching by your side, looking at what you were looking at.
On the rocks was a prone body of a teenage male with bruises already forming on his face from where you could see. His thick shoulder-length hair laid still half in the ponytail and around his head.
“Head trauma.” You murmured to Hen, scanning from a distance, “I can’t tell much from this height and angle.”
“Either a broken tibia or fibula. Spinal injury is definitely a concern.”
“Okay, his name is Willie Young. He’s eighteen years old. His sister Kayla was dared to jump off by doing some kind of flip. Willie took her dare and didn’t jump far enough or tripped over a rock.” Bobby listed having been talking with the group of teenagers all shook up.
“I can rappel-” Buck began to speak before you cut him off firmly.
“It would take too long, and the angle is difficult. Nobody rappels down it; the cliff isn’t stable enough. It crumbles pretty easy, and the unofficial name of this cliff is Devil’s Dive.” Your eyes found Carrie’s tear-filled once and the utter devastation in who you pegged as Kayla.
“How do you know that?”
“Because I’ve jumped off this cliff for years as a teenager. You’re looking at the resident champion of self reckless endangerment at Devil’s Dive.”
Hen, Chimney and Bobby each stared, shocked at your revelation of stupid teenager decisions.
“Then how are we gonna get down there,” Buck questioned, staring at the unconscious teenager lying on the rocks.
“Easy, I can jump from here into the water and climb onto the rocks to where Willie is. I have the experience of how and where to jump safely.” You spoke to your Captain with complete confidence in your abilities, “You can lower down the kit, radio and backboard by a rope. There’s a mansion beyond the trees that you can ask to borrow a boat from the owner. He’s eccentric and questionable but nice enough.”
Bobby nodded his head to your plan. You unbuttoned your uniform shirt to strip down to the department t-shirt with the emblem on your chest and across your back. You kept the boots and emptied your pockets of anything. The butterflies fluttered in your stomach at the height of the cliff you hadn’t jumped from in years.
“I’ll jump where-”
“Excuse me?” You scoffed at Buck’s assumption he could follow you.
“You’ll need another pair of hands to roll him on the backboard. I don’t have anyone waiting for me at home. This is kinda what I do. Bobby cleared it already.” Buck shrugged with a half-smirk on his handsome face.
With a roll of your eyes, you quickly gave Buck a rundown on how to jump correctly before you tossed yourself off the cliff. The cold water momentarily shocked your system as soon you submerged under the water. You swam to the surface before swimming towards the rocks. Willie hadn’t moved an inch.
“Whoa! That was so cool!” Buck cheered once he’d appeared on the surface of the water, “No wonder you used to do that!”
His excitement both annoyed and amused you, “Eh. I was just an idiot kid who thought they were invincible.”
The two firefighters lifted themselves onto the rock formation, where blood stained the rock. While Buck retrieved the backboard and essentials from the rope, your hands moved across Willie’s body, checking for breaks. You caught the c-collar Buck tossed without looking. You quickly but gently put the collar on Willie.
“Hi, Willie. My name is Y/N, and I’m a paramedic. I’m gonna check you over for injuries.” You informed the teenager closely. You’d only just opened his eyes to flash a light on them, “Buck let Bobby know Willie’s pupils are reactive to light and the same size.”
“Got it!” Buck called out from the open medkit, “I’ll splint his leg.”
“W-what happened?” Willie wheezed sluggishly. His brown eyes were unfocused.
“You got hurt trying to jump off the cliff. You’re in good hands, Willie. I’m a paramedic with the Los Angeles Fire Department. This is my coworker Buck.”
“Kayla?”
“Perfectly safe, but you did give her a scare. Willie, can you feel this?” Buck questioned, gently touching his right foot. Buck and you both gave a sigh of relief as Willie confirmed he felt it.
“Okay, we’re gonna roll you on to the backboard. On three: one, two, three.” You counted before rolling Willie on his side with Buck. Willie’s cry echoed around the surrounding as you settled him on the board.
“Need a ride?” Chimney asked as a very nice boat floated towards the three people on the rocks. Hen and Bobby helped load Willie onto the boat, “Mr. Covington agreed to let us use the boat if we don’t get blood on the seats.”
“Can you call my boyfriend?” Willie sluggishly asked when he was loaded into the ambulance on the cliff. Kayla sliding into the seat in the back of the ambulance with their items.
“Alex is meeting us at the hospital.” Kayla told her older brother, “You absolute idiot! You should have just let me jump!”
“And let you be in the back of the ambulance? Dad would kill me if I had let you do it.” Willie scoffed. Their conversation was silent as Chimney and Buck closed the back doors of the ambulance.
Bobby, Buck and you climbed into the fire truck to follow the ambulance to the closest hospital. Hen and Chimney rolled the gurney to the doors with Kayla hot on their heels. You’d just turned to head back to the truck when you saw three teens loitering near the entrance.
“You’ve got to be kidding me.” You grumbled, marching away from Bobby and Buck to the teen who was supposed to be in class.
Luke had been forced into private tutoring to catch up to his friends in his grades, meaning every afternoon. The watch on your wrist confirmed Luke was definitely supposed to be with his tutor at the community centre.
“Luke!” You shouted, stomping right up to the wide-eyed teen.
Luke’s Adam’s apple bobbed in his throat as his older intimidating sister caught him like his hand was in the cookie jar. You didn’t give Reggie or Alex a second look while you gripped Luke’s ear to tug him away.
“Ow!” Luke whined from the angle you dragged him at.
“What the hell are you doing across the city? You’re supposed to be in your session that our parents are paying a great deal for.” You snapped, crossing your arms in your wet t-shirt.
“We need every chance we can to-”
“Make it big in the industry.” You parroted the past discussions on Luke’s dream as a band, “Do you remember how I got mom and dad off your back? An agreement that you finish high school on time. Not dropping out.”
“So many musicians have dropped out! Green Day’s frontman dropped out his senior year to focus on the band. Several others like Elton John and Kurt Cobain!” Luke enthused, gesturing with his hand to emphasize his words.
“Luke.” You warned, “It’s either catch by with a tutor with some time dedicated to your band, or it’s a military school.”
Luke’s hazel eyes minimally widened, “They would-”
Your stoic expression stayed the same as the energetic seventeen-year-old bounced in his spot across from you.
“There’s only so much I can do before you lose everything. I know you feel anxious after what all happened, but music isn’t going anywhere.” You reached to squeeze Luke’s hand in yours, “So, I’ll clear it with my boss to have you ride the bus to the station. You’ll have your tutor sessions with my supervision, so I know you’re attending.”
“Y/N!” Bobby called from next to the firetruck, “We gotta go.”
“I’m guessing the Alex that Willie is dating your best friend?” You questioned with one raised eyebrow. Luke nodded in response, “Let mom know you had to be there for Alex. She’ll let skipping your session go this once.”
“Thanks!” Luke chimed, lunging to hug you. Your mouth barely opened before he was racing towards a jittery Alex and a grinning Reggie.
Reggie lifted his arm to wave with his flushed cheeks a darker red colour. You found Reggie’s crush on you to be absolutely adorable. He was a friendly kid.
“He looks good for a kid who was in a coma not long ago.” Hen breathed as the teenager entered the ER with his best friends beside him.
“Oh, he healed quickly. He was crushed after he fully recovered from his head injury.”
“That was your brother?” Buck inquired, and he was just as focused on your features as he had since he first met you.
“Yeah! He was in a coma for ten months when he was sixteen. He’s spent the last two years catching on on school to graduate with his friends. Well hopefully. He’s dead set on dropping out.” You heavily sighed, leaning your temple on the glass window, “He was supposed to be at a tutoring session. I’ll be chaperoning to make sure he goes.”
“If you need to have them at the station, send me a schedule, and I’ll make it work. Luke’s just as much family as you are.”
The rest of the shift was smooth sailing as Buck followed you around with the sole purpose of getting to know you. The friendship came naturally to the two of you. He didn’t hold back with you like he did with others. Fridays off became hangouts that varied from just Buck and you to spend it with Eddie and Christopher.
Everyone could see Buck had developed feelings for you and vice versa. Unlike the man Buck used to be, he was cautious. He wanted to do this right. And Buck did. With the help of Christopher, he asked you out.
Months Later
Buck’s eyes fluttered open in the dim lighting of your new home’s bedroom he often found himself in. Before, you had alternated staying at his apartment or yours before a significant change happened. Luke moved in to finish his senior year with the help of your tutoring, as agreed with your parents. That led to you giving up your former home, the one that coincidentally Buck’s sister Maddie had rented from you.
“Luke! You better be awake!” Your voice came from the main floor of the home. Your voice alone seduced the firefight to leave the warm sheets.
His bare feet pattered down the hardwood floor stairs into the kitchen coated in all different kinds of breakfast food. Waffles to imported maple syrup to bacon spread across the counter.
“Morning,” Buck grumbled, stepping up behind you to tug you against his chest.
Unlike Buck’s softer footsteps, your little brother tore down the stairs like a stampede of elephants. Luke wore a vintage band shirt modified sleeveless; you’d be getting a voicemail about dress code violations. The chains hanging off his black jeans.
“You have to hurry, Lu. Buck and I can’t be late. He needs to get to his apart-”
“I don’t see why he doesn’t just move in. He’s here almost every night. He helps buy groceries.” Luke’s hazel eyes stared at the plate he towered food on.
Buck raised one eyebrow in response, “You just moved in. You should be settled before we make-”
“Dude. Your lease is up in like a month; just move in already. No feathers will be ruffled. Besides, the band’s taking off now that Nick got his dad Ryan to check our music out.” Luke sprouted with a beaming smile at the good news his new band received.
After Luke had recovered from that coma, he’d woken up in a world where Alex, Reggie and Bobby, no Trevor, now continued the band. Then when Alex and Reggie couldn’t go on, the rhythm guitarist betrayed Luke. He stole every song he could get his hands on and proved successful.
“Ryan Evans, right? His sister’s some bigshot on Broadway? Sharpay, right?” You questioned recalling in the early 2000s the success of Sharpay and Ryan in some kind of Disney films based on them.
“You’re about to be the sister and brother-in-law of a certified rockstar.” Luke’s attempt at smirking made him look like a chipmunk with full cheeks of food, “I don’t need a ride. Alex’s picking me up.”
“Straight to school, Luke. You’ve got two weeks left before you can leave that behind.” Buck pointed his coffee cup in the direction of the passionate musician. Luke returned a smile of acknowledgement.
The kitchen was quiet as Luke shoved as much food in his mouth in such little time while you watched. In a flash, he’d stuck his dishes in the dishwasher before sprinting out to the van beeping continuously.
“Think we can have you moved in by tomorrow? Your one-bedroom place will be a little cramped for five people.” You simply spoke as you rinsed your coffee cup out. You could hear the wheels in Buck’s brain turning as he thought.
“Five people?”
“Yeah. Luke, Albert, me, you and baby Buckley.”
The entire home went completely still as the announcement bled into the house you’d made a home. One hand resting against the smoothness of your belly. That hand covered by the calloused one of Buck’s. His blue eyes gleaming in utter adoration and excitement.
“Baby Buckley?” Buck marvelled, turning you to face him with tears running down your cheeks, “You’re pregnant?”
“I am. I guess we’re giving Maddie’s daughter a cousin.” You grinned, wrapping your arms around his neck.
“Now I’m obligated to see your parents regularly, and I still grimace at the first introduction.” Buck winced, recalling the foot in mouth syndrome he’d developed.
Buck had never been as nervous as in this moment. Not when he had to tell his parents the first time he got kicked out of college. Or when his teenage self sat beside one of his flings waiting for the results of a pregnancy test. Not even on his first date with Abby.
“You’ll be fine.” You soothed the anxious man standing by your side on the doorstep of your childhood home. The door opened, revealing Luke standing with a grimace, “Oh Mom, made you wear that.”
Luke had been stuffed into one of the only long-sleeved shirts he owned by your mother. It was a magenta maroon hued corduroy shirt and set off his chocolate hair perfectly. Apparently, your mother hadn’t been able to get him into a pair of pants that weren’t skinny, black or ripped.
“We’re meeting your boyfriend, not the damn Pope-”
“You wouldn’t be wearing that if the Pope was involved.” You retorted, stepping to tug the younger Patterson into your arms. The only thing you adored about your little brother was he never denied a hug. Physical touch is his love language, so he never went through a phase.
“Lucas, don’t let them freeze on the front porch!” Emily shouted from within the Patterson home. Luke rolled his eyes at his mother’s request.
“Luke, this is my boyfriend, Evan Buckley. Buck, this is my not so little brother Luke.” You swiftly introduced the most important males in your life.
Luke and Buck got along better than any previous partner you’d brought home. He got along with your parents really well. Even when he slightly embarrassed himself as the time came to go home, whether it was his place or yours. He kissed your mother’s cheek and shook hands with your father.
“No offence, but thank you for having a heart attack and a coma. If you hadn’t, I’m sure I would have never met Y/N.”
Luke snickered at Buck’s odd choice of words, as did your parents. A part of Buck dreaded the next time he’d see your parents.
The gentle press of lips against your cheek pulled you from your thoughts of the first family dinner. Despite the issues between Luke and your parents, they were great people and parents; Buck had felt like he finally fit in. Even with that awkward thankful he gave your brother and dad, he was family the minute Mitch and Emily saw the mutual looks.
“How are we gonna do this?”
“Well, as the pregnant one, I’ll carry the little Bean until it’s time for them to enter the world. Then we’ll-”
“I get that but with our jobs?”
You felt guilty at the dread of not getting to do what you love, but you were excited, “I’ll keep working as a paramedic. I’ll stay away from fires, and then I’ll go on mat leave. We’ll make this work, Buck.”
Buck leaned down to rest his forehead against yours with his eyes closed, envisioning how life was about to change. Buck adored children. He had loved Christopher from the moment he’d first met him. Buck himself was a kid at heart.
“I didn’t think I could fall more in love, but you continue to surprise me each time,” Buck murmured with that gorgeous smile that utterly melted your heart from the first time you saw it. Back when you tried to deny any feelings beyond friendship.
“We’re so lucky to have you, Evan Buckley.” You breathed as you leaned up to kiss him with as much passion as you could. Although it was mostly clashing of teeth with the matching wide grins on your face.
“This little girl is gonna be a heartbreaker but no boyfriends or girlfriends until they’re thirty.” Buck declared, tugging you into his arms. His blue eyes twinkling in the natural lighting.
“It could be a boy.”
“Or maybe neither. Boy, girl or non-binary, I’ll love them just as much.” Buck spoke once more.
Gideon Buckley was born in the early morning to the pride of his parents and extended family. He was a healthy solid 8 pounds with sparse dark blonde hair and the trademark grey-blue newborn eyes. You everyone but Buck and your surprise Gideon wasn’t alone. Grace Buckley followed her older twin brother eight minutes later.
You rested against the propped up pillows spent from the exhausting hours of labour, but it was worth it. The two tiny babies snuggled beneath the swaddling blanket concealing your bare chest. Skin to skin contact was absolutely the best part of being a parent.
“Did you steal a baby?” Chim joked upon entering the hospital room with Maddie in tow. Right behind them were your parents and Luke.
“I’d like you to meet our twins Gideon and Grace Buckley. Surprise!” Buck quietly cheered in the nearly silent room. Buck’s curated newly parents playlist gently playing in the background.
Mitch and Emily came closer to look at the little loves they proudly got to claim as their first grandchildren. Emily’s heart melted upon hearing Gracie coo in her sleep. Grace and Gideon’s fist pressed against each other.
“Congratulations.” Maddie breathed, bending to catch a peek at the twins’ faces.
“Luke. Would you like to meet your goddaughter and godson?” You questioned the nervous musician. The nineteen-year-old tiptoed his way to the hospital bed.
“I’m both their godfather?” Luke choked as soon as Buck gently transferred Gideon onto his uncle’s chest.
“There’s no one else in the world I’d choose to help guide them in the right direction. You always found your way back onto the right path. You’ll do the same for them.” Buck answered with Gracie nestled on his chest.
Buck was the first to hold them followed by you and then their godfather Luke.
Gid and Gracie, although unseen, had been in Luke’s graduation pictures and watched as Julie and the Phantoms signed with a record label. Where Gid was, Luke wasn’t far beyond; the special bond melted everyone. Likewise with Gracie and Alex.
Gid overall was a happy baby compared to Grace. Loved visiting the firehouse. Loved the people working with their father and previously their mother. For the entire first year of Gideon and Grace’s life, you stayed at home with the utter support of Buck.
“First day back.” Hen spoke from beside you on the bench in the women’s change room. As a fellow mother, she’d been watching your behaviour.
“I miss them. I feel guilty that I abandoned them-”
“Okay, your feelings are valid, but you aren’t abandoning Gideon or Grace. You’re teaching them that you can be a great mom while also being a badass firefighter. I was the same when I went back to work after we got Denny.”
“Do you ever wish you could be a stay at home mom?”
“I love Denny with my entire heart, but I couldn’t do that. I was meant to be a paramedic firefighter as much as Denny’s mother. Besides, I can see Maddie pushing in the double stroller.”
Your head snapped to see your sister in law beaming with the double stroller carrying Gideon and Grace. Maddie’s daughter sitting on the seat made for a toddler. Maddie and Chimney had come to a decision for Maddie to work part-time.
Hen watched as you bounded out of the changeroom in uniform to scoop the twins into your arms. In a split second, Buck was down the stairs cooing at the absolute loves of his life. His partner and two children.
Buck would forever be grateful for finding his way to the 118, where he found his true family. A place of acceptance, love, trust and loyalty. Buck found his place in the world, and that was beside you.

It's the fact she not only broke her promise(though I think she say she promised not to tun before his arrest etc) but she actively still lying and working on it because she wouldn't get his photo etc that quick but also rather then be for buck for fmwily wre nearly mrudered she deiced to report on it as they were going to hospital.
Oh Nonnie
the more I think on Taylor the more I hate her and everything she stands for - and I really didn't think my hate for her had space left to grow and its making me somewhat inarticulate!
She is just truly so unlikeable - not one redeeming feature and I will remain eternally baffled that Buck ever saw anything in her! Poor Buck - so messed up from his childhood and never feeling wanted that he has sacrificed nearly his whole self to her and to a relationship that is slowly destroying him piece by piece. Buck is going to blame himself for all of the fallout for this - Bobby said the line in this episode about Jonah 'I let him into my house' but Buck will be thinking and feeling the same thing - he trusted her, and he let her into his life, into the firefam's life, he defended her and she betrayed him in the way that would hurt him the most - she is cold and calculating and knew exactly what she was doing. She claims to love him - you don't treat someone you love that way - ever!
Season 6 is going to be Buck's breakdown - one that has been a long time coming and he is going to have to rebuild himself. It's going to be brutal to watch, but so good for him. And he will have Eddie, Maddie and the firefam to help. Hell maybe we'll see Buck and Bobby supporting each other through their respective recoveries - it would be beautiful to see them heal together - really reenforce the father -son bond they have going on!

read on ao3 Pairing: Evan "Buck" Buckley & Maddie Buckley, Evan "Buck" Buckley/Eddie Diaz Rated: General Prompt: Ornaments
“What are you up to tonight?” Eddie asked as he and Buck walked out to their cars after their shift had ended. “Any Christmas Eve plans?”
“I’m going to Maddie’s. Chimney and Albert decided to have some ‘much-needed sibling bonding’ and Maddie decided we needed that, too.”
“But you’re coming over tomorrow to help with Christmas breakfast, right?” Eddie asked as he opened Buck’s door for him—always the gentleman.
“I wouldn’t miss it,” Buck responded with an easy smile. Eddie nodded and grinned back and Buck could barely bring himself to look away, let alone drive to his sister’s instead of following Eddie back home. “I, uh, should get going,” Buck said reluctantly, hitting his palm against the steering wheel.
“Yeah, me too,” Eddie chuckled, “but have a good night, okay? I’ll just be home putting Christopher to bed and eating the cookies you guys baked yesterday.”
“Those are for Santa,” Buck chastised jokingly, earning another laugh from Eddie. Buck loved hearing him laugh—Man, he was so fucked.
“I’ll leave some for Santa,” Eddie defended, holding up his hands, “and I’ll leave some for you, too. See you in the morning.”
“Merry Christmas, Eddie,” Buck said softly.
“Merry Christmas, Buck,” Eddie responded. He walked backward toward his truck, eyes on Buck the entire journey.
It took everything in Buck to drive away.
When he got to Maddie’s house, he took a deep breath and let it out slowly, willing away how much he wanted to be with the Diaz family. He had his own to tend to, after all. As he walked toward the house Maddie and Chimney had recently moved into, he saw the wreath that used to adorn his childhood home on her front door and it warmed something inside of him.
“Maddie?” Buck called as he walked into the house. He couldn’t remember the last time he knocked on Maddie’s door—he wasn’t a guest anywhere she was.
“Evan!” Maddie’s voice chimed from somewhere toward the back of the house. “I’m in the kitchen, be right there!”
“Got it,” Buck called back as he wandered into the living room.
There were still a few boxes left to unpack, but the most important decorations were up. The Christmas tree was placed in one corner, surrounded by a baby gate covered in a festive garland. Now that Jee-Yun had started crawling, her favorite place to wander was to where the sparkling ornaments and glittering tinsel adorned the tree.
Beside that was a table covered in white fluff to look like snow with a miniature town nestled on top of it. There were all sorts of shops and homes scattered around and even a little mirror sprayed with fake spray snow to make it look like an ice-covered pond. Buck had fond memories of saturating the windows with the foam, always covering Maddie with a burst or two even though it annoyed the hell out of her.
“Do you like it? It’s nothing as extravagant as mom used to do but—”
“It’s better—much better,” Buck said as he turned toward his sister. His eyes landed on a fire station and he laughed when he saw the scribbled 118 on the sign. “Chimney?”
“Of course,” Maddie noted with a fond smile. “It wouldn’t be ours if the 118 wasn’t included, right?”
Buck nodded and took the mug of hot chocolate Maddie held out to him. She gestured for him to sit, curling her legs up on the couch with the baby monitor on her lap.
“She sleeping?” Buck asked. Maddie nodded and turned the monitor around so Buck could see his niece. Jee-Yun’s features were relaxed and she looked so at peace in her crib. Buck’s heart ached with how much love he had for her. “She’s got a big day ahead of her,” he commented.
“The Lees have dibs on the morning before we head to Bobby and Athena’s for dinner. You’ll be there, right?” Buck nodded.
“Eddie and I are spending the afternoon with Abuela and Pepa before heading over there.” At Maddie’s knowing smirk, not entirely hidden by her mug of coffee, Buck rolled his eyes. “What?” he asked, regretting the question almost immediately.
“You’re spending the day with Eddie and his family?” Maddie questioned back, though it sounded more like the start of an interrogation.
“It’s nothing, Mads, Christopher just asked me to come,” Buck defended. That only had Maddie’s smile widening and her eyebrows pushing further up her forehead. “Don’t start…”
“I’m not, I’m not,” Maddie said quickly. “I’m happy for you,” she decided, setting her mug on the coffee table and reaching for the small wrapped gift beside it, “and this is a fantastic segway to my Christmas Eve gift!”
“We’re still doing that?” Buck complained with a scoff.
“Of course we are, Evan! It’s tradition!” He couldn’t keep a straight face when Maddie’s eyebrows pulled together in sadness.
“I’m kidding, Mads, jeez.”
It had been, as Maddie said, the tradition for them to exchange gifts on Christmas Eve as siblings. Their Christmases were often filled with fake smiles and gifts neither of them really wanted so together, they would celebrate the holiday the day before. Each of them would decorate an ornament to hang on the back of the tree where their parents never really looked. Neither of them had a lot of money as kids but they could sneak just enough for something small and so, the tradition was born.
“You first!” Maddie said with a clap. She pushed the gift-wrapped box toward Buck and grinned brightly at him. “I had such a tough time this year, you know, after everything…” Buck didn’t need more of an explanation and he squeezed her knee with his free hand gently. “You deserved something perfect, though, so I got a little help.”
Buck tilted his head in confusion but ripped at the packaging in excitement. When he opened the box and saw the ornament, a sense of childish wonder flowed through him as tears burst into his eyes. In a small frame was a picture of Buck with Jee-Yun in his arms and Christopher leaning against him for a better view of his ‘cousin’. It was a moment Buck didn’t realize anyone had captured but was so grateful they did.
“Maddie, this is—”
“Turn it over,” she requested gently.
Buck did as she asked and sniffled when he saw what adorned the back of the ornament. It was the most lopsided heart he had ever seen but he knew it was the fingerprints of the two kids he cared about most in the world so that didn’t matter.
Written underneath, in Maddie’s perfect cursive, was Buckley-Han-Diaz—the three names that made up the most important people in Buck’s life.
“This is—” Buck couldn’t finish his sentence because emotion welled up in his throat. “It’s perfect, it’s— I love it.”
“I’m so glad you do,” Maddie said, her own voice wet with unshed tears. “I think you should hang it up.” Buck nodded and stood to walk toward the tree, only to be stopped by Maddie’s hand on his arm. “Not this tree.”
“What do you mean?” Buck asked, his eyebrows furrowing together.
“I know this is tradition, us getting together on New Year’s Eve, but that’s when we didn’t have anyone else. We only had each other but Buck, that isn’t the case anymore,” Maddie noted.
Buck sighed and whispered again, “What do you mean?”
“You’re my family and I love you so much, little brother,” Maddie stood and held Buck’s face in her hands as she finished, “but you’ve got another family that deserves your place in their home tonight, don’t you?”
It was phrased as a question, but Buck knew it wasn’t one. As much as he wanted to spend time with his sister, it wasn’t the only place he was needed anymore. He didn’t have to hold onto his sister so tightly for love like he did when he was a child because he had the Diazes willingly giving him the love he never thought he deserved.
“My gift is going to seem really lame compared to yours,” Buck said finally, leaning down to press a kiss to his sister’s cheek. He took the small box out of his back pocket that contained an ornament covered in a collage of photos of Maddie with everyone who made her happy. Most of the pictures were of Chimney so Buck noted, “Wait for Chim to open it, if you want. I think he’ll like it, too.” Maddie nodded and patted Buck’s cheek gently before nudging him toward the door.
“Go, be with them. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” Buck kissed her again before walking to the door, ready to spend the holiday with the people who made up his future.

Where It Leads (Rafe Cameron)
Summer III
Part 06: Round And Round
series masterlist | previous part
summary: It seems like the stars have finally aligned to give Rafe Cameron and you a summer of blissful happiness.
a/n: This got a little longer than I expected but I'm not mad at it. I had to give them at least one summer of being cute together before the other shoe drops. The final part to this series will be out Thursday!
word count: 3.2k words (warning this gets decently smutty 18+)
The Island Club had a special glow to it as the sun sunk below the horizon and the thousands of fairy lights strung up around the yard flickered on. A breeze rippled through the warm summer air, making the perfect kind of weather. You took in the sight. The people mingling on the lawn, all dressed in their best clothing. Waiters dashing around, keeping everyone's drinks filled. Bits and pieces of conversations floated up into the night.
You'd finally settled on a long, black satin gown with a deep v-neck that’d you'd found hidden away on the sale rack. Your mother had fussed over how plain it was and how much skin it showed but you were sure it was the right dress from the moment you slipped it on. You'd agreed to let your mom twist your hair into a single braid that fell down your back and she’d stuck bobby-pins with tiny rhinestones in at random intervals. You had painted your lips a deep crimson red to pull it all together.
You were starting to understand the appeal of the whole thing. There was a certain feeling of glamour to the night. Your eyes roamed the lawn noticing Cleo and Milo snuggled close together on the dance floor, swaying to the soft music playing. That was new. Good for them. They looked happy together.
Most people were already here since your Nonna had insisted on being fashionably late.
The hair on the back of your neck stood up as you heard Rafe's voice from behind you. You turned around and the sight of him made your mind go blank. You'd let yourself picture how Rafe Cameron might look in a suit but the real deal was so much better.
Rafe cleared his throat snapping you back to reality. "You look nice," he said, the compliment bringing a smile to your face.
"You too, Cameron."
"Hey, come with me. I wanna talk to you." He reached down, taking your hand and you slipped your fingers between his, letting him lead you back inside. Almost every person you passed seem to know Rafe and smiled at him or stopped for a quick "hello."
He pulled open a heavy door and ushered you inside. It was the same bathroom where you'd meet Sarah for the first time while trying to escape boring lunch small talk. What were you doing here? Rafe leaned down, checking that all the stalls were in fact empty before turning the hatch on the door to lock it.
Rafe smiled at you widely. "Hi," he muttered as he brought his hand up to cup your face, running his thumb over your cheek.
The butterflies sprung up in your stomach almost immediately.
"Hi," you said back quietly, afraid of breaking the moment.
He walked you backward gently until you felt the cool wall against the exposed skin of your back.
His mouth was dangerously close to yours. His other hand landed on your thigh and he slowly slide it upwards. You weren't sure if you cursed buying a dress with such a high slit or were grateful for the easy access.
“Rafe, we can't do this again. Not here,” you warned but you were sure he could see right through your words. “We were both drunk last time.”
“And I’m completely sober now.” His hand inched closer to your core.
“Do you even remember it?”
“Do you really think I would have dragged you in here and have you pressed up against this wall if I didn’t? Yes, I remember it y/n. I remember the whole very clearly.”
Rafe dropped his voice to just above a whisper. He smoothed his thumb over the sensitive skin of your inner thigh. “Tell me to stop. Tell me you don’t want this.” But you did want. You wanted it so badly it was killing you. Every bit of you turned to jelly under his touch and you wanted Rafe’s hands all over your body. You had zero interest in telling him to stop. His fingers ghosted over your underwear and you let out a whine without realizing it. “See, I’m barely even touching you and you’re already whining for me.”
Your forehead dropped to his shoulder as he moved your underwear aside, dipping his fingers into your folds.
“Ah, ah, ah. Look at me, baby.” Rafe said, pushing your head back upright before he moved his hand down to wrap his fingers around your throat. His eyes meet yours. This was a different side of Rafe. Rougher and wild but incredibly sexy.
Another moan caught in your throat as he pushed two fingers inside of you. “Fuck, Rafe.”
Your back arched off the wall and a loud moan tumbled off your lips as he hit the sweet spot inside of you. “Good girl,” Rafe praised. His words turning you on even more.
Rafe could tell you were nearing your climax and slide his fingers out suddenly.
“Fuck you, Cameron,” you spit.
He laughed. “Please, it couldn’t be more evident that you want to,” he replied, hiking your dress all the way up to your waist, pulling your lacy underwear down to the floor before undoing his belt and kicking his own pants off. Your fingers fumbled with the buttons of his dress shirt, desperately pulling it open to run your hands over his beautifully chiseled abdomen.
His clothed dick, bulging out of his boxers, rubbed against your clit and your hips bucked up automatically, craving the friction.
Rafe ran his thumb over your bottom lip, slipping it into your mouth as it naturally fell open. “God, you look so fucking hot right now y/n. So so pretty.” He pushed your hips back against the wall, harshly. “But let’s remember, I’m in charge here.”
“Please, Rafe,” you begged. You knew he was going to keep teasing you, loving the way you squirmed under his words.
Rafe pushed his boxer down this knees freeing his hard cock before pulling a condom out of the jacket, unrolling it over his dick. He lined it up with your entrance, pushing into your slowly. The pace almost making you cry out.
“Jesus, Cameron. Fuck me already if you’re going to,” you hissed, annoyed with the ends he was pushing you to.
Rafe chuckled, his eyes locked with yours as he slammed his whole length into you. You bit down on your bottom lip trying to stay quiet.
Rafe reached down, hooking your leg around his waist so he could enter you at a new angle. Your arms wrapped around his shoulder, holding onto him for support. Your breath hitched as his thumb began to rub small circles on your clit.
"Fuck, you feel amazing," Rafe said, his own breathing uneven. "I needed to do this again."
His mouth attached to your neck, kissing and sucking and you were sure you would find a hickey there tomorrow morning. He rested his forehead on yours, your mouths an inch apart.
You could feel your release growing closer and closer. Rafe's own movements were getting sloppy and desperate. He closed the distance, landing his lips on yours, catching your moans as you came undone. He continued to kiss you, slipping his tongue into your mouth, finishing just seconds later.
Neither of you moved for a few moments, savoring the feeling of just holding each other. Your lips met again, the kiss was sweet and slower but still full of passion.
“That was a super productive conversation, Cameron,” you joked.
“I didn’t come here to have one.” He smirked, moving away from you to slip back on his pants. You walked over to the mirror to evaluate how disheveled Rafe’s impromptu due need to fuck had left you. Some piece of hair had sipped out of your braid but they framed your face nicely making it look almost intentional so you could definitely get away with it. Your red lipstick was noticeably gone. If your mom got suspicious, you’d have to blame it on not being able to find a straw. Though the stain on Rafe’s own lips might give you away.
Rafe came up from behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and resting his chin on your shoulder. You watched his movements in the mirror.
With a face like pretty it really was no surprise you found yourself in situations like this. Not that you were complaining. But Rafe had this pull on you that was truly indescribable but impossible to resist.
“Should we get back out there?” You asked. “People might start wondering where you went.”
“Let them,” Rafe replied, placing another kiss on your neck, just below the edge of your jaw. It was your favorite place to feel his lips on you. That spot in particular sent a shiver through your body whenever he kissed it.
“I’ll go first and you follow in five minutes.”
“We can just leave together,” he countered.
“Phoebe might see.”
Rafe hesitated, picking up on the double meaning of your words but wanting to avoid a fight over it. “Okay. You go first.”
☼☼☼
You let yourself get pulled into Rafe Cameron’s orbit for the remainder of the summer. You became a regular figure at the group’s parties, becoming especially fast friends with Riley as you spent more time together and bonded over the world that was high school theater. Milo had claimed you as his beer pong partner from the beginning and the two of you had managed to remain undefeated. The evenings usually ended in you and Rafe sneaking away to his house or yours, the culmination of sly glances and flirtatious winks you’d been teasing each other with the entire time. You left your window perpetually unlocked and learned how to dart across the Cameron’s front lawn without making the motion-sensor lights go off.
One summer night, near the middle of July, you were standing on Rafe's front porch having slipped out quietly when the light clicked on illuminated the yard, You froze, fearing you'd been caught by Rose or worse by Ward but instead, Sarah stepped out of the shadows, her eyes equally wide with fear of being caught.
"Shit, she cursed, half giggling. "I usually don't make that go off."
"Where have you been?" You asked her playfully.
"I meet a boy," she confessed.
Your features contorted into a smile seeing the happiness radiating off Sarah.
"Aw Sarah. I'm so happy for you. Just be safe, okay?" It was hard to believe but Sarah was now the same age you'd been when you and Rafe had first meet.
"Don't worry, y/n. Nothing's even happened. We just sit in his room, talking for hours," she paused, finally realizing the strangeness of you standing on her front porch in the early hours of the morning. "Oh my God. Wait? Are you and Rafe...? It’s about time."
You held out your hand to shush her. The look on your face giving away all your secrets.
"You're good for him," Sarah added. "You're good for each other."
The light clicked off again, the darkness of the night enveloping the two of you.
"That's my cue." You reached out, pulling Sarah in for a quick hug, placing a loving kiss in her blonde hair.
"Bye." She squeezed her arms tighter around your waist before letting go.
☼☼☼
You knocked on the door of Sawyer's pool house, the location the group had decided on for the night after a rather fierce argument in the group chat, one you had pointedly stayed our off. Rafe opened the door, smiling at your presence before stepping outside, pulling the door closed behind him.
He leaned down for a kiss. "Hi," he said.
"Hi," you replied, your lips meeting his.
His hand automatically reached for yours. "C'mon. I wanna do something fun tonight."
"But isn't everyone in there?" You pointed behind him.
"Yeah, but it's just gonna be the same boring thing. Sawyer's drunk already because he can't hold his alcohol for shit. Phoebe thinks we should hit up some touran's party. And Cleo and Milo are no-shows. So let’s go do something else."
You shrugged. You'd much rather have Rafe all to yourself anyway. "Okay, where are we going?"
“It’s a surprise.”
Ten minutes later and Rafe was pulling into the desert parking lot of his high school. “Welcome to the Kook Academy. That’s not it’s actual name but everyone on the island just calls it that since none of the pogues can afford to go here.”
The lofty walls of the private school loomed above you. It looked like a fucking castle that belonged in the rolling heels of Europe, definitely not in the middle of North Carolina.
“C’mon. You can see practically the entire island from the roof.”
“How the hell are we gonna get up there?” You asked.
“The lacrosse team pulled this sweet prank last season and I still have the keys to the roof. Plus, it’s summer. No one’s even here.”
“You’re gonna be the death of me, Rafe Cameron.”
He leaned across the middle console, sliding a hand being your neck and pulling your face close into his. “I promise it’ll be worth it,” he said before landing his lips on yours.
Soon you were climbing into his lips, straddling his hips. The roof-top adventure temporarily put on hold. You gripped his blonde locks as his hands worked their way under your shirt.
"I thought we were breaking into your high school?" You tesed.
"We are. Right now, I'm just trying to break into your bra," Rafe answered.
"Okay." You shoved his hand away. "On account of the fact that that was the worst comeback I've ever heard, let's go."
"I can't help it. Your tits were distracting me," he answered, trying to reach for them again.
You swatted his hand away "Rafe."
"Party pooper," he replied with a frown.
"You're such a drama queen." You leaned down for a quick kiss, tearing your lips away before he had the chance to pull you in deep.
Rafe hadn't lied. The view from the roof was breathtaking. You could see all the way to the end of the island from the top of the fourth-story building. The cars moving below were tiny dots, the people even smaller. You stood at the edge, your eyes fixed on the churning ocean stretching beyond the horizon. The whole thing felt eternal.
Rafe's eyes watched your own, the glint in them growing as you took in the sight.
"Holy shit, Rafe. This is amazing," you said, wrapping your arms tight around his neck, not looking away from the skyline.
"I thought you might think so."
The two of you stayed like that and watched the sun disappear below the horizon in a blaze of orange and pink glory before the dark night sky littered with brights stars replaced it.
The wind nipped at your skin, fiercer up here than on the ground. It made you snuggle into Rafe's side, stealing his body heat to stay warm.
"Ready to go back down?" Rafe asked.
"Not yet." You weren't prepared for this moment to end. You longed to stay in it, here, with him, for as long as you could.
"Okay," Rafe answered, pulling your back closer into his chest and wrapping his arms tighter around you to fight off the cold. "Okay," he repeated. He let a few more minutes pass before breaking the silence again.
“I bought you something.”
You turned to face him, eyebrows raised in surprise. Rafe had money, obvious, but you never knew him to be much of a gift-giver. Mostly, because he was hyperaware that the money belonged to Ward, not him. Rafe reached into his back pocket, producing a small black velvet box. You took it from his outstretched hands and opened it. Inside, lay a beautiful gold necklace with a single dainty star.
You look up at Rafe tears welling in your eyes from the romantic gesture. Your heart swelled. “Oh my God. I love it, Rafe.” I love you. You stopped yourself before those three little words, three words more explosive than dynamite, had the chance to slip out as well.
“Don’t cry, baby. It’s only a necklace. Want me to put it on you?”
You nodded, handing Rafe back the box. You lifted up your hair up with one hand and he carefully draped the necklace around your neck, fastening the clasp in the back.
Rafe smiled at the look of it hanging around your neck like a reminder that you always had him, that you would always have him.
“Thank you, babe. I seriously love it.” You took the necklace between your fingers peering down at it.
“Anything for my girl.”
☼☼☼
Hours later, you were back in Rafe’s room, laying on top of him, your naked stomachs pressed together, your head resting on his chest, your legs intertwined beneath the comforter. Rafe ran his index finger lazily up and down your arm, goosebumps springing up in its wake. You lifted your head off his chest to look at him.
“I think we should maybe talk about what happened last summer," you started.
“Why?” He asked back.
“Uh, cause you told me to pick and I didn’t pick you. But then I get back to the Outer Banks and we sleep together within the first week.”
“But you’re not dating Evan anymore.”
“Right.”
“So what’s there to talk about. You’re free to fuck anybody you want. Preferably me, right now, again.” He eagerly moved you so that your already sensitive core, from the night's earlier activities, was straddling his thigh. You groaned at the contact, quickly shifting away as not to let him distract you from the conversation.
“What about Phoebe?” You asked.
“What about Phoebe?”
“Well, you took her to Midsummers.”
“Cause we’re friends and I knew it would make Ward happy.”
You paused. “But we’re friends.”
“Baby, trust me. Phoebe and I are not the same kind of friends me and you are.” His palm landed on your back, rubbing small comforting circles.
"Meaning you're not sleeping with her?" The words came as a question, though you’d meant it as a statement.
"Definitely not." Rafe paused. "It's just you."
This was the closest you'd come to having the 'What are we?' conversation. You had suspected the two of you had been exclusive for some time but it was refreshing to hear Rafe say it aloud.
"Yeah, it's just you for me too," you replied.
You started to move off Rafe's warm body. “Where are you going?” he asked.
“I gotta get home. My mom’s started going on these crazy 6 a.m morning runs and I’m afraid she’s gonna catch me sneaking it.” You leaned down to kiss him again. “I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Ward and I are leaving for those college visits tomorrow.”
Oh shit, you had forgotten about that. “And my flight back’s the week after that.” The implication of your words hung in the air. The summer was coming to a close and you couldn’t stop it.
“It’s okay y/n. We’ll call and text during the school year and next summer you’ll be back.”
“Right,” you agreed, trying to ignore the sinking feeling growing in your stomach. You had the summer-fling of your dreams with Rafe and here he was promising to stay in touch so why didn’t it feel good? Why didn't it feel right?
“I gotta go. Have a good trip.” You took Rafe's face in your hands hoping to kiss away the uneasy feeling. Rafe's hands wandered down to cup your butt, pulling you back on top of him.
“Rafe...” you trailed off as his tongue slipped into your mouth.
“Shhh,” he mumbled back.
You knew you should probably pull yourself away from him, staying would cut it too close with your mom but the way his hands roamed your body was making it hard to think about anything rationally. He rolled your hips against his already hard-again dick. Fuck, the things this boy did to you were dangerous. Besides, maybe this would distract you from that achy feeling you had about the future so you let yourself kiss Rafe back desirously.
But two weeks later, as the tires of your plane lifted off the runway, en route back to Oregan, that feeling hadn’t gone away in the slightest.

Hi! I'm a gay fan of 911 and I have a question about the whole Buddie fandom. As much as I like Buck and Eddie, it's frustrating that a HUGE part of the fandom is pushing for these two characters to get together instead of putting energy into supporting Hen & Carla and Michael & Dave. Not to mention Carlos and TK in Lone Star. Can you explain to me the appeal of wanting these two men together? Wouldn't it be more interesting to see two heterosexual males just be able to bond in a non-toxic fashion? That's something we don't get to see often on television.
Hey! This is MAD long lmao I am so sorry! You caught me on a day I felt like talking! Also this took like a year to answer you lolololol. This does have a few ʻhot takesʻ so please be warned! So like in this essay....
So first I am also apart of the LGBTQIA+ community, so I do understand how it could come across as a fetish or being non supportive of the current canonically LGBTQIA+ characters, however I think a lot of the interest around Buddie and the want for them to be confirmed as a couple is how they are being written. Me personally I knew since s2 e1 Buck and Eddie were written not as rivals but as two people who would eventually become friends, but it wasn’t until the Christmas episode with the elf assuming Buck was Chris’s dad and Eddie’s partner that I was like ‘hold on!’ because I was really hoping Abbey would return and I didn’t see Eddie as a possible Buck live interest because of that. The elf’s comment wasn’t played off like most other shows would (think Dean and Sam arriving anywhere in Supernatural) it made me go back and look at the other episodes to see exactly how Buck and Eddie were being framed/written. And as we have moved into further seasons I think there has been a shift in how Buddie is being written, in s3 it was very much like two people progressing into a deeper friendship then the blood clot/lawsuit gets in the way and they both have to deal with emotions surrounding that, then Buck’s response to Eddie being trapped (we see how is he when Boddy is trapped in a fire WITH A GUNMAN, it’s emotional but not to the point is is with Eddie), even the love interests feel very pushed on us and there’s so little banter between Buddie about their gfs and how they feel about these new beginnings. It feels off, not like a friendship in the slightest, more like two people trying to force something and not wanting to deal with any other feelings. Then when Eddie gets shot and reveals Buck is Chris’s legal Guardian in the event Eddie dies, that’s huge, and he did this after only a year of knowing Buck (I have friends with kids. I’ve known one of them for FIVE years, I’m at their house every week, the kid calls me family. I’m person #10 on the list of ‘who gets my kid if I die’, not #1 lol) It just feels like it’s all building up to something, and people are getting tired of waiting for that something! We’re all emotionally tired from the past two years, and probably from many shows queerbaiting us and this is something that could happen, seems to be something the actors are ok with and the fans want. So why do they keep drawing it out. This isn’t about us demanding they ignore the chance to write a healthy platonic male friendship, or forcing two characters to be gay, it’s about holding the writers to what they’ve implied and seeing what could come of it.
Also think of it like this; If Buddie is confirmed it will still be a good example of a healthy friendship which then developed into something else, like Booth/Bones! Showing the natural progression of friendship to relationship that happens a lot in real life. It’s two men who previously (on screen at least) have only been with woman, but now they have an emotionally connection with someone which they then develop and explore. This could be 911’s first nontoxic depiction of two gay characters coming together, because sorry not sorry the canon couples aren’t perfect (which does humanize them) but they also reenforce harmful troupes that plaque the LGBTQIA+ community, which I’m sure you understand: TK was a drug addict, who only got with Carlos at first cause he was hot and sex was TK’s new addition (all gay men are sex addicts who do drugs and sleep with anything that moves). Carlos was ashamed and wanted to keep TK on the downlow (poc gay men want to pretend to be straight but have free access to gay sex). Hen cheated on Karen seemingly the first chance she got (lesbians can’t handle monogamy when pushed, and cheat on their long term partners). All known and documented troupes that happen far too often.
I’m not saying Buddie is some gay jesus ship that’s gonna save the entertainment industry but if done right it could prove to be one of the few healthy depictions of two men getting into a gay relationship we have. If they plan it out correctly, show us the relationship development, like they did with Maddie/Chim for example, Buddie could be used as a positive example of a gay fictional relationship (I really could go into depth about this. I probably should tbh).
As for not supporting Hen and KAREN, or Michael and DAVID, I think fans do support them! The writers don’t. If you read fanfics Henren and Michael/David are featured heavily in many fics, and ik some people might say ‘well they’re only there so Buddie can talk about their gay side!!’ but both these couples have their own fans and fanfic tags! They aren’t just plot devices in Buddie stories. There is a huge side of the fandom that supports Henren and wants to see more of them and their family. Same with Michael and David, during the episode where Michael and Bobby team up to find that plastic surgeon who was working illegally many people where ecstatic that we were getting more Michael/David content and that David was getting more than a couple lines. But sadly it seems like the writers only want to delve into these story lines when they need filler, they even miss opportunities to include these other LGBTQIA+ characters when it makes sense;
(Someone came for me about this but I am going to bring it up again)
When Chris is sad and wants more human connection, instead of bring Harry + Michael/David and Denny+Nia+Henren back into the picture (and yes I understood at the time the pandemic was bad (lmao still is!!), but all the actors at some point would have/had crossed over into each other’s ‘bubbles’, so ALL the actors would have been exposed to each other so getting the children together with adults they had ALREADY been with during shooting wouldn’t have been a super spreader event) but instead they brought in Ana after only two on screen dates and pretended like it was a logical thing for someone who’s up to that point been extremely careful with their child.
They really could have pushed the ‘118 is a family!’ message here and included the canonically gay supporting characters, and the lesbian main character(s) but they did not and instead chose to push the Ana/Eddie coupling even though they hadn’t properly developed it yet. The writers themselves don’t seem to care about developing their canonically gay characters and including them more than they have to but fans are continuously developing Henren and Michael/David with hc and fics.
I’d like to use your logic against you for a second, in s1 we have a very healthy, platonic friendship between Chim/Bobby but that got written out to the point they are more like boss/employee unless the scene calls for them to seem closer, we now have Bobby and Michael friendship but again we hardly see Michael. On Lone Star we have Owen and Judd as a really, really good example of a healthy male friendship but we see Judd more often with Tommy now then we do with Owen, and in s2 it’s overshadowed by Owen trusting Charlie from Twilight and constantly getting fucked over! Why can’t the writter just be happy with these happy, healthy, emotionally well male-male friendship they’ve already included and expand upon them. There’s enough drama because the show literally involves burning buildings and people’s lives being at risk from some natural/man made disaster ever 12 seconds. Does it need to have so much interpersonal conflict and male peacocking??
#Buddie#Please donʻt get offended by anything in this!!!#These are JUST my opinions which MAY change the further we get into this show!!#ALSO IT IS JUST A TV SHOW!!!! PLEASE BE KIND TO ME AND TO EACH OTHER

Buck Begins Fic Recs
For @thisissirius
Here are a couple of fics that I have written. And I’ll probably add a couple of favorites that I’ve read along the way!
Nothing I Ever Did Was Good Enough
Buck bit his tongue, looking away from his father. It was too early in their get together to have a blow out. He especially didn’t want to have that blowout in front of Chim and Albert. “You know, firefighting, until recently, has had a huge amount of off duty suicides due to improper care of mental health. The department has changed to help firefighters through hard times of losing patients or families in fires by hiring departmental psychologists and having service animals available for visits to the firehouses after really tough calls. If someone isn’t in the right mindset, we could lose more people, not to mention our own people and that person. Mental health is no joke,” Albert stated. Buck had to hide is smile, but he turned to Albert, giving him a knowing look and small smile. His parents spluttered for a few seconds before Phillip turned to Albert. “I don’t think I was talking to you. Mind your own business, this was a family matter.” “Don’t talk to him like that,” Buck nearly growled. “He is family.”
~~Or the one where the parents visit and Buck is in over his head...luckily his family has his back.
~~~~Part 1 in the Nothing I Ever Did Was Good Enough series
Nothing I Ever Did-
~~~~Part 2 in the Nothing I Ever Did Was Good Enough series
"Watch your attitude, Evan," Margaret glared. "Why should I? All you've ever done is put me down and compare me to Maddie and try to make me into her. News flash, I'm my own person and I'm different! I get that nothing I ever did was good enough, but I don't have to keep trying to appease you and let you walk on me or my family. So if you could kindly drop the attitude and rude comments regarding Eddie and Christopher, it would be much appreciated. They invited you into their home and you've been nothing but assholes since you got here! Clearly you came here with opinions and baggage and a want to have your way, but that's not going to fly here. You best just head out of town tonight, you're not wanted here in my life or Maddie's life. We don't want your toxicity melting into our families because I'll be damned if the shit you've said tonight will ever affect my niece or my kid!"
~~Or the one where Eddie hosts the Buckley parents and just tries to be supportive in general...but the parents are nightmares. Featuring cuddles with Chris, Eddie, and Buck.
Not The One You Wanted
“Evan, I don’t know what you expected us to do.”
“Love me anyway,” it had been said like his heart had been ripped out...which, it felt like it had. Because that was the truth, wasn’t it...all he ever wanted was for them to love him anyway. He wanted his parents to give a damn about him but they never did...it was like he was a responsibility that they never wanted.
Maddie had said that their parents had been different back then when they were sentimental and made a box for her...and now Buck knew why. Daniel. His older brother Daniel...a brother that he didn’t even know existed until he sat down with Maddie to look at all the baby photos in the box...and there were plenty...Buck can hardly remember ever getting portraits like these done during his childhood….but his parents were different back then.
-OR- Evan Buckley deserves love and hugs because of how shitty his parents are.
*This is honestly one of my favorites that I’ve written...it’s like a character study while Buck was trapped in the warehouse with some liberties surrounding the reason Buck’s in the warehouse*
Secrets
He’d been lied to his whole life...Maddie had never thought to tell him about not being his actual sister...his parents were acting like it didn’t matter...like he should just get over it. Buck’s eyes met Chim’s...and his whole body went rigid. “You knew,” he whispered, looking directly at Chim. “You knew and you didn’t tell me?!” He rounded on his sister, “you told him, but not me?!”
“Evan, I was trying to protect you-”
“No, you don’t get to do that! You don’t get to try and protect me! I’m a grown ass adult, I deserved to know but instead of telling me, you told him and even though I’ve known him longer he still didn’t tell me!” Buck shook his head, backing from the room. “I can’t do this,” he whispered.
-OR- Buck finds out the secret Maddie's been keeping from him while his parents are visiting...he is understandably betrayed.
*Basically, Buck Begins and the Daniel scenes hadn’t happened yet and I wanted to know what the secret was, so I came up with this.*
Ambush of the Parents
Based off the new Promo (or the one I just saw) where we see Maddie, Chim, Albert, Buck and (who I believe) are Buck and Maddie’s Parents. Buck’s dad says “you’ve been seeing a therapist?” and Buck responds “Well, the job can be stressful.”
Disclaimer: Please don't read if verbal abuse from parents triggers you.
~~~~Or Buck’s parents are absolutely horrible and Buck’s family defends him.
Buck Begins
Buck always tried to please his parents. He wanted to be recognized and loved. He tried to get their approval but it was never enough. *Includes flashbacks, this was before Season 4 was even in production*
~Evan had thought that the SEALs would make his parents proud. He tried out for the SEALs, he went through training, but it still wasn’t enough. Then he’d dropped out. That had been the icing on the cake. Evan had never had a big blowout with his parents. He’d always tried to appease them. He tried to be the perfect son…but they never thought he was good enough. So when he dropped out of the SEALs, having a shouting match with his father as a consequence, he left for South America. He bartended and had fun. Then he’d gone to LA and became a firefighter and he hadn’t contacted his parents since the blowout.
Here are some fic recs that are not my own works
double vision wrapped in last night’s party clothes by amirlywritingfanficnow
"I have always been honest with you." When Eddie's voice cracks, Buck's composure almost cracks with it. "Why can't you just be honest with me?"
or
When Buck is let in on a long kept family secret, he doesn't know what to do. He almost ruins things with the one person that keeps him from feeling like he's floating away with no way to land, but it ultimately turns out okay with help of a little communication.
*This one pulled at my heart strings a little*
but i leave it in my heart, cause I don’t want to stay in the dark by neoncrayolas
Buck hadn't meant for the confession to come out like it did. He'd wanted it to be more eloquent and not so full of snot and tears.
But once it was out, there was no going back.
Or, part character study of Buck, part coda to 4x05.
*Basically, Buck isolates himself, Eddie gets worried, and Buddie is endgame
Learning to Breathe by TearsThisSideofHeaven
Boy, he thinks as the city lights blur a little in his vision, my therapist is going to have a field day with this.
*Short little fic that delves into Buck’s emotions with Eddie trying to support him
Finally Safe by WinterLioness
In the aftermath of finding out a family secret Buck finds himself going to Eddie. Christopher and Eddie use their Diaz charm to help.
*This picks up on the emotions Buck feels not only because of the family secret but because Maddie kept it from him (not full on hate, but what any normal person would need to work through) and Eddie is there to support him. Features cuddles with the Diaz Boys.
Not Related to the story line of 9-1-1 but has a whole ‘Buck Begins’ vibe because I was world building: The Life We Live
*The Old Guard AU no one asked for* "Athena had seen many a millennium and many men, women, and children die. She had seen the rise and fall of civilizations. She had felt the pain of loneliness and the happiness of community...but she’d never, in her many years of living, seen something like Eddie, Buck, and Chris. She’d never seen this profound of a bond, even between herself and Bobby. After Buck lost Abby and, later, Ali, Athena wasn’t sure he would have let his heart reach out to another person that he could lose...but she was proud of him. He built something that was hard to come by in their way of living. He built a home."
*I’m really proud of this one, it turned out well*
Not Related to the Story Line of 9-1-1, Fics by others!
Please Don’t Say You Love Me (because I might not say it back) by Queerfeministdork
"Say I love you loud, and say I love you often. It was an easy sentiment, and it was a beautiful background picture. But something clenched tightly in Buck’s chest when he saw it flash open as he handed Hen her phone. Because he knew it was a simple thing for most people, that most people could just let those three little words slip out without a care. But he couldn’t. They always got caught in his throat, stuck behind his chest. Tamped down before he could think to breathe them out."
Buck always wished he could just say the words. Turns out, maybe people just know.
*Basically, Buck can’t say ‘I Love You’ as easily as everyone else and panics about it...but eventually, everyone understands.
everything is blue by amirlywritingfanficnow
When Evan Buckley is ten, he discovers nail polish.
-
In which Buck paints his nails, Eddie is flustered, and May is a matchmaker.
*Basically Buck and Eddie saying fuck toxic masculinity. Buck enjoying painting his nails and Eddie is definitely in love with him.
Coming Home To You by kariberri13
The 118 want to know more about Buck, but the man won't give them many details. That is until the biggest detail walks through the station's bay doors.
*Not focused on his past, but a different story focusing on the fact that Buck is married to Eddie and has a kid that he didn’t tell the Fire fam about.
There are tons more, but this is what I could think of off the top of my head!
Hope you like them!
