Yesterday, one of our friends learned a new expression when I texted her and told her that getting Mrs S to get a move on so we could come to her coffee stand before she ran out of cookies was like pulling a sword from a stone. I forget sometimes that I tend to shoot from the hip and say things to people as if everyone naturally understands me, even though I live in a country so foreign to us and the way we speak that I need to be more careful with my words. Things that’ll ALWAYS stop my scroll: A story of a random act of kindness or goodness. (anyone else love accounts that share those viral stories?!)Now that it’s Random Acts of Kindness Day it’s got me thinking about even the smallest things that have made my day, and ya know what? (if you’re anything like me, you’ll appreciate this one): Some years ago, I was boarding an airplane at the buttcrack of dawn one morning and if there’s ANY morning that I ain’t feelin’ cute: it’s when I woke up at 3:30AM in a rush to get to the airport. I’m standing in a row of people making my way through business class, mentally still back in my bed when I met eyes with a woman looking at me across the row I was passing. She mouthed from a distance while motioning around her own face, “You’re very beautiful.” I could have reached across those seats and hugged a stranger that morning! It has stuck with me as a reminder to simply tell people what I think if it’s something positive.
