I got out from under my weighted blanket and went for a run. Still a run and walk, but I pushed harder in the first mile then decided to just hang in there until I hit a half an hour then I could go home. It was cold. It was sprinkling (though not fully raining thankfully.) I donā€™t know why I only remember that I was going to start c25k when Iā€™m already half way through a run. Maybe tomorrow! #fatgirlrunning #weightlossjourney #plussizerunner #socold #gohawks #c25k #couchto5k #run #walk https://www.instagram.com/p/CJZvOC3h_fm/?igshid=nyvgpawuklda

Iā€™m back! Havenā€™t been to the gym in 3 weeks. I wish I had some strategic reason why. I donā€™t. Capacity. I had no capacity to do anything save lay in the bed for extra time in the morning. It felt good. I heard the gym calling. I just didnā€™t answer her. Until this morning. Turns out she still remembers me. And, my machine was waiting for me too. I just moved these bones and thighs of mine. They both carry me far. I appreciate them holding me up all these years. #thechashow #seenandheard #werisetogether #roomandneed #questions #talkshow #tvhost #talkshowhost #tv #interview #askquestions #nbc #cbs #gma #today #huffingtonpost #love #movement #exercise #fatgirlrunning #lovemyself #takeabreak (at Life Time Charlotte) https://www.instagram.com/p/ChZ4iVXrUaZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Carpe Diem - tempus fugit
Wow - where has the time gone?! Iā€™m half way through the time since my holiday - I start my new job 4 weeks on Monday. My time is becoming increasingly precious!
How are my challenges coming along - well, I ran the 10k race in 1:12, which is ok but I wouldnā€™t say I was yet at ā€˜10k fitnessā€™ so Iā€™m KOKO and enjoying it. Working on pace and distance until 10k is comfortable rather than a stretch - hoping I can get there by a months time.
Weight wise I have still only dropped a couple of kilos but Iā€™m two holes down on my belt (I wish Iā€™d measured) and fat% down by about 6.5% so Itā€™s heading the right way even if the kg arenā€™t dropping yet.
Iā€™m managing more yoga than I was but Iā€™m struggling to find the time (??!!) somehow - canā€™t fathom that one myself.
The house is getting there but itā€™s a slow progress now - I have had too many lunch and coffee dates. Today is my blitz before phase 3 day and Iā€™m sat online having had a nice run and lazy breakfast. Procrastination, thy name is Sarah!
Iā€™ve read a few books now - none have inspired my like A year of Less did, but here they are:
Tribes: We Need You to Lead Us by Seth Godin (3/5)
Powerful:Building a Culture of Freedom and Responsibility by Patty McCord (4/5)
A Whole New Mind by Daniel Pink (2.5/5)
Half way through Conversational Intelligence by Judith E Glasser
So - as tempus is fugiting Iā€™m going to Carpe the fucking diem out of the rest of the day.
Peace

Personal records all over the place today! I did the @savetheelephants #10K in #centralpark - it was HARD. So much uphill. I kept every mile under 12 minutes, and thatā€™s kind of amazing for me, especially with the climbs. STACK IT SATURDAY. There's a dual benefit of partipating in certain 5k/other events. It motivates me to push my workout the best I can that day. In addition, the proceeds from entry fees go to charity. This is one reason I prefer the lower key lower budget events (including this one with a spray painted start and finish line) over the for profit hyped up themed events that offer you a $2 beer/cider/margarita with your pricey entry fee. Nothing wrong if you do the latter if you have a good time. #SCORE #selfcare #fatgirlrunning (at Clare, Michigan) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxU6uYmDmMP/?igshid=1kshbaxeiki

Your favorite fat girl is back
Hey y'all! As you could probably guess, I fell off the wagon. I had a major back injury last summer and that derailed all my progress. I actually ended up gaining an additional 20 pounds from a year of poor eating again. After starting my journey again at the beginning of this year I have already had life try to derail me. I have been sick for two months with pneumonia and that certainly set me back in relation to working out. I have joined weight watchers in hopes that it will motivate me to get shit on track. Since January I am down 27 pounds and am trying my darndest to keep it going. Hopefully the set backs are behind me and I can take this journey by storm.

So...
Fit bit says 2.2 mi, Zombies, Run! says 3.06 km, and Charity Miles says 3.1 mi. All are GPS based mind you. Going with the middle ground, here are the stats.
2.2 mi in 39:55
Wow, that looks terrible. Points I'll add in my factor:
- I haven't been exercising lately so this was my first day out.
- its 84 F with 69% humidity
- cars
Things that I could have done better:
- I probably could have ran more of the stretch. It was 100000000% a mental thing
- went earlier when it was cooler (5 degrees may have made a difference)
- drank more water before I left
- used my inhaler 30 min before instead of immediately before
- not worn all black
Overall, I think it was a decent start to ease back to fitness. When my muscles quit twitching I'll stretch.

I hate getting up early, I hate running when itā€™s hot AF, I hate dragging myself out of bed on my day off, but I do enjoy running why ?! Hell if I know. Iā€™m scared each time I go out cause I know Iā€™m being laughed at, but I keep pushing cause I love the feeling after, even with this punk ass blister on my foot, I feel like Iā€™ve done something. By myself, probably badly but I did it. ā˜ŗļø #fatgirlrunning #thinkingwaytohard

Fat People In Motion: Runners
***Disclaimer: No interaction of any sort by fitness, weight loss or thinspo blogs. You will be blocked if you do. ***
The original anon question that started #Fat People In Motion was focused on the anon wanting to try running out. It took a couple of weeks, but here we are, focused on fat runners. Fat runners exist. Plan and simple. They each have their own personal reasons for starting a journey to running ( I can almost count myself amongst them as I have just started my own running journey, like today lol) and they are enjoying it.

Mirna Valerio aka ā€œThe Mirnavatorā€ and ā€œFatGirlRunningā€ started running to improve her overall health and wellbeing. She was not concerned with weight loss or being ā€œsmaller.ā€ She simply wanted to move her body in a new way.
youtube
She found her stride once she discovered long distance running. It was perfect for her as she long decided that speed was not her focus. Time and finishing the race was what she honed on. Not necessarily beating the time of others but smashing and/or improving on her own times. The more she ran, the more notoriety came to her. It lead to multiple tv appearances, endorsement deals for plus size workout gear, magazine articles (including one in Runnerā€™s World aka the premiere magazine for runners, work as a contributor for womensrunning.com and a book titled ā€œ A Beautiful Work In Progressā€ set to be released in October of this year.  Between marathons, mud runs ( running activity that involves mud and other obstacles that make getting to the finish line that much harder. ) or any running event Mirna Valerio takes part in, the end result is always the same: she finishes in her own time.

Johanna found racing via a runners club in her hometown of North Carolina. She started off as a beginner runner and eventually she started doing triathlons. Her goal is always to finish every race she starts. Her many medals and personal best times are a direct result of her following her own words.  She owns her body and celebrates who she is every step of the way.
ā€œ I am not obsessed with the fact that I donā€™t look like the ā€œtraditionalā€ athlete. A 5-minute mile is still the same as my 20+ minute mile.ā€
Fat runners are athletes. Period.

Dear Jane Benfer, Risa Reid or to Whom it May Concern, I've started my running journey since October 8, 2013 -- that's 2200 days ago; my fitness journey was 2333 days ago and counting. Prior to this, I was a chef, social worker, an admin, mom, friend, family member and a number of titles before you started harassing me or any of my fellow athletes. As I am evolving in my newfound career, I'm disheartened by your juvenile and sickening efforts to defame me in such a disparaging way. At first, you tickled me like spoiled milk. There's an entire Facebook group in your honor where we discuss your latest insults. Two weeks ago, you targeted me once again on social media calling me a 'sellout' and I dare not whisper the racist epithet that you defined me and two of my African American running buddies. I was suggested by the public to not feed the trolls. In fact, I've been told this for so long, I felt neurotic as people asked me to make it a norm. "You're in the public eye," they say. "Don't read the comment section," some say. There's even a few who agreed that I'm just a "c--n with a big mouth." To those naysayers, to hell with you. When people go through abuse, we report it in but I'm expected to smile through the absurdity of your claims because it makes me "brave." I'm tired. As a black woman, I tolerate enough just by taking breath and you, a foul mouthed unknown, are allowed to harass the running community without consequences. WE are a part of the problem for brushing it off like the creepy uncle, like fatphobic jokes in the 80s or that older relative that says nasty commentary. I'm over it and so are countless others. I challenge you to be present and face us. I'm not asking to be your therapist because I don't hug my oppressors. Instead let's hear your story. Say this to our faces. Or do us all the favor and cut the shit-- we are tired of normalizing your actions. Make this hashtag trend on behalf of @themirnavator FatGirlRunning community. Thank you @runkittymeow for starting this hashtag: #stopshamingusjanebenfer Tell your story and get @Facebook to pull her account. Internet harassment is a crime and more laws need to be implemented. 4.85 km
Hello! Everyone's (least?) favorite flaky fat runner here!
So, today I decided to do the above distance. Now, let me tell you it wasn't a spur of the moment thing. You see, I had a dream the other day about running a virtual race around my town (approximately 10k, I believe, but I haven't looked it up) with a friend. And we were doing good. I ended up getting about $1,000 donated to a charity (I want to run for charities, hence why I even started running). Well, after I woke up, I was so proud of my dream achievement. It reinspired me to work on it IRL. So, this whole week I've been saying, "I wanna do 3 long runs!" Now, today is Wednesday. It is also my brother's birthday. Weekends are usually no go for me because my couch potato fam. Monday and Tuesday were iffy. Monday, I was busy running errands and never got the chance. Yesterday, however, was spent going all over the county trying to find a vet to fix a dog without forcing me to go bankrupt. These people were ready to charge me $300-500 dollars. THIS ISN'T EVEN MY DOG. I finally found a place to take him next week, btw. Let me tell you, I will be a raging bitch then because I will have to be up at 4.
So, that left today. And I thought "Why not?" So I mapped my route. Down to the church, all the way down the street, up and around the neighborhood then back to my place. The perks about living in a semi-rural area is that the streets are long. Hence the 4.85 km. And that was exciting because that is so close to 5km and I'd love to do a race this year! So I turned on "Zombies, run!" and set off. Now the first 5 minutes weren't bad. They were warm up minutes. I walked them. Then I began to run. Now, Samsung Health says I ran eight minutes. I say bullshit, I definitely ran longer. But I ran until there was probably an eighth of a mile left to the church. My app chimes in "1km done in 11:53"."Okay, this is fine. We will do intervals." No, this was not fine.
I turned around to start back up the street from whence I came and I noticed the wind. I noticed it really well since it was hitting me in the face. So I struggled. I probably made it somewhere between 1/8th and 1/4th of a mile before I had to start walking again. I then hear the app go off again. "2km done in 24:01". I chalked the extra time up to wind and kept going. As I neared my street I was tempted to call it quits. But I didn't. So I started off running again. I made it about 1/4th of a mile before I started to wheeze. By that point I said "Screw it, I will walk". And I did. It was a lovely walk. I got to pet a dog. I listened to my app and got super confused about the mission. I acquired a bunch of stuff including a rocket launcher (obviously not IRL).
But about halfway through I remembered how I read an article I read said sprinters used their quads, marathoners used their hips and glutes. Okay. Cool. So I tried to focus my power from my hip flexor muscles. It felt... weird. Alien. Wrong. My stride was forced to be longer and I disliked that greatly. I also noticed it helped to highlight all my numerous imbalances. But it did help me correct my right leg which tends to turn out at the knee to the point my foot is at a 45Ā°.
I see merit in it, I really do. And I will work on that movement more. But I know my hip flexor muscles are laughably weak.
Also who the eff is runner 5 really???
