God I will never be over Natalie & Ben’s friendship. They were the two most mature, moral people in the group & they were one another’s Allies for so long - each other’s normalcy in a world gone crazy. They were the two adults in a lot of ways. Natalie was only 17 like the others but her life experiences made her wise beyond her years & in the event of chaos she took a leadership role. She was always going to betray Ben as he remained stuck in society & his fantasies of a happy & normal life & she was dragged ever deeper into the wilderness & the wilderness’ way of doing things. The moment he realizes she’s the newest antler queen is a shattering moment for a reason & it’s the little moments, like Natalie showing Ben the map she’s made while Travis searches fruitlessly for a brother everyone thinks is dead & she tries to be logical & the two sit & have a moment of respite. They were each other’s rock for a long time. But Ben couldn’t cope with the new reality & Natalie will always choose the greater good, to help the most people. “You don’t belong here anymore.” Like I guess I get why a lot of people don’t like Ben or whatever but sometimes it’s like. You need to at least try to empathize with him in order for the story to hit the way it’s meant to.

What do you think of Swissmano? It’s Switzerland x Romano 😇

All I can think about is how much fun these two would be together. On one hand, there's a chance they'll just get on each other's nerves. They both have short fuses, so there's a chance they'd constantly annoy one another for any variety of reasons. For this, I don't see them being able to make a romantic relationship work.

But platonically? I can totally see these two being the kind of friends who sit there and judge everyone who passes by. They'll vent to one another as they roast people they don't like behind closed doors. One of them makes a comment about someone, and the other adds on. Granted, I don't see Switzerland getting into the roasting as much as Romano does, but give him some alcohol and he loosens up.

If they were friends, I can totally see Switzerland being the kind of guy to try and hold Romano back from trying to start a fight. Imagine a scene like this:

Bartender: "Oh goodness, it looks like someone's spoiling for a fight."

Switzerland: "What an idiot."

Switzerland: *hears shouts of profanity in Italian*

Switzerland: *spits out his drink, falls off his stool, and scrambles to his feet*

Switzerland: "SHOOT THAT'S MY IDIOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

cobbling together old discord rambles about julie and frank to make sense in a single text post because i feel like hurting someone today:

something i rotate a lot is the Dramatic Irony of a friendship deteriorating as a result of external forces trying to push them together when they were ALREADY close but not in the way that those forces intended - trying to make every interaction between them something that it isn't. i've made jokes along the lines of “genderfucking my ocs by telling them they have to be cishet” before but like. genuinely i do think there’s potential for there to be an element of one or both finally being pushed by this predicament to Deliberately seek out things they are not “supposed” to have, whether that be new relationships or new forms of self expression or just things we have no way of predicting yet.

and the real tragedy there is that if any of the characters involved had it their way, then it's likely that these things wouldn’t be coming into conflict with each other at all, bc yes they are different things, but they are all equally genuine. i know some people have talked about the idea julie turning against frank bc she does actually have feelings for him, but my own personal disinterest in this interpretation aside, i think there’s a lot more Dramatic Mileage to be found in “this person is my best friend so i only want good things for them -> free will and love are generally good things -> i find out i exist to limit their free will and/or ability to find love with other people -> Oh god. there's no way i can be included among 'good things' then. oh god. oh god." or "this person is my best friend so i only want good things for them -> free will and love are generally good things -> i find out they exist to limit my free will and/or ability to find love with other people -> Hey Dude? What The Fuck. I Have Only Ever Wanted Good Things For You.” or even both of those at the same time.

i wonder, which would feel worse: telling someone in a fit of anger against the circumstances that led you two here (circumstances are harder to hurt than people) that they ruined your life just by existing, and then having them try to turn that back on you? or having them agree with you? to find yourself burdened with the task of trying to cut them loose from you and risking your own safety in the process, or to find that they've taken matters into their own hands before you could make that decision?
