Space Craft! Make NASA-Inspired Creations for World Embroidery Day
It’s time to get crafty with some needle and thread. At NASA, we hope to inspire art of all kinds. To highlight #WorldEmbroideryDay on July 30, we want to know: does our imagery inspire you? Show us your art and we may feature it on social media.
How?
Search for a NASA image that inspires you. Here are a few places to get you started: Hubble, James Webb Space Telescope, Ocean Color, Landsat and Earth Observatory
Create. Over the years, we've seen a growing number of embroidered pieces that showcase our organization's research, especially with needlepoint.
Share your creation, along with the image it was inspired by, on social media using the hashtag #NASAEmbroidery. We will share selected pieces on July 30 for World Embroidery Day
Why?
NASA imagery has many functions. From studying distant galaxies to tracking ocean health, our scientists use these images to not only monitor our home planet, but better understand life beyond our solar system.
Embroidery is an ancient craft that has experienced a revival over the years. It involves decorating fabric or other materials using a needle to apply thread or yarn. Have you recently taken up embroidery? What images are you inspired by? We’d love to see it.
Image Resources for #NASAEmbroidery Inspiration
NASA Images
Hubble Image Gallery
NASA’s Ocean Color Image Gallery
James Webb Space Telescope
Landsat Image Gallery
Create and Share Your #NASAEmbroidery
Take a picture of your piece and upload it to Twitter, Instagram, Tumblr or Facebook. Make sure you use the hashtag #NASAEmbroidery so we know that you are taking part in the event and make sure that your privacy permissions allow us to view your post.
If the piece catches our eye, we may share your work on NASA’s main social media accounts as well as theme-related ones. We may also feature your art in a NASA Flickr gallery and our Tumblr pages. We’ll contact you directly to grant us permission to feature your work. You can follow @NASA on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook for embroidery creations, which will be featured from July 30-Aug. 1
Make sure to follow us on Tumblr for your regular dose of space!

The fandom wiki does not have it updated so here goes nothing.
If you input DESTRUCTION IS A FORM OF CREATION into the computer you get this page.
At the bottom it has a code in binary hidden behind scribbles and notes. It is very hard to read.
This is what I managed to get down, but I probably am not getting all the ones and zeros perfect.
If someone has a trick or just better eyes or a bigger computer screen, please have at it.
Calling in the decoders and cypher-breakers and theorists. Good luck. Reblog with the answer so I can see it. I need to know what it says.
Edit: YAY UPDATE!
Man that was fast. I sent it to a friend of mine and they figured it out.
google search that and
Conspiracy Facebook page!
Edit: realizing that there's an extra r. Oops. Well it might be just a reference to the page or just a prompt for further code. We'll see :D

Lingthusiasm Episode 98: Helping computers decode sentences - Interview with Emily M. Bender
When a human learns a new word, we're learning to attach that word to a set of concepts in the real world. When a computer "learns" a new word, it is creating some associations between that word and other words it has seen before, which can sometimes give it the appearance of understanding, but it doesn't have that real-world grounding, which can sometimes lead to spectacular failures: hilariously implausible from a human perspective, just as plausible from the computer's.
In this episode, your host Lauren Gawne gets enthusiastic about how computers process language with Dr. Emily M. Bender, who is a linguistics professor at the University of Washington, USA, and cohost of the podcast Mystery AI Hype Theater 3000. We talk about Emily's work trying to formulate a list of rules that a computer can use to generate grammatical sentences in a language, the differences between that and training a computer to generate sentences using the statistical likelihood of what comes next based on all the other sentences, and the further differences between both those things and how humans map language onto the real world. We also talk about paying attention to communities not just data, the labour practices behind large language models, and how Emily's persistent questions led to the creation of the Bender Rule (always state the language you're working on, even if it's English).

Announcements: The 2024 Lingthusiasm Listener Survey is here! It’s a mix of questions about who you are as our listener, as well as some fun linguistics experiments for you to participate in. If you have taken the survey in previous years, there are new questions, so you can participate again this year.
In this month’s bonus episode we get enthusiastic about three places where we can learn things about linguistics!! We talk about two linguistically interesting museums that Gretchen recently visited: the Estonian National Museum, as well as Mundolingua, a general linguistics museum in Paris. We also talk about Lauren's dream linguistics travel destination: Martha's Vineyard.

Miniature Artist Transforms Household Objects Into Tiny Scenes Full of Whimsy and Wonder
by Regina Sienra - My Modern Met, May 28, 2024
Artist Tatsuya Tanaka continues to immerse us in the whimsical world of his creative miniatures. Having devoted himself to building these tiny scenes every single day for the last 13 years, his creations are as exciting and fresh as ever. As charming as his miniature art is, the true beauty of his ongoing art project lies in his materials of choice. Tanaka uses household objects—from ordinary white bread to a simple wallet—to breathe life into these little worlds.
Tanaka's miniature compositions are part of his never-ending Miniature Calendar, a project that has seen him create a new scene with household objects and tiny people daily since 2011. His images are influenced by anything from pop culture and world events to seasons and holidays. Lately, his feed has taken great inspiration from spring with cherry blossoms appearing in many of his leisurely compositions—including one of bikers by a riverbank and another of a serene carriage ride by a sakura tree. He also celebrated Star Wars Day with an R2-D2 sauce dispenser and Mother's Day with a heart bouquet.
Despite his use of everyday objects, Tanaka's miniature scenes exude a sense of wonder and adventure. In some of his latest creations, his tiny characters visit a spoon-based waterpark, take a brush boat to go dolphin-watching, and play a game of table tennis on a deck of cards. And since leisure is enhanced by a little culture, his cleverly crafted images take us to a jazz concert lit up by the pages of a book. And he has another music-themed piece where a piano is made out of a cassette tape. His imagination is limitless!
Pop culture is also a massive element of Tanaka's work. He recently included some beloved characters from Japanese productions, like Dragon Ball and Studio Ghibli. In one of his most clever recreations, Chihiro from Spirited Away rides the train; but if you look closely, the windows are actually made out of blue eyeshadow. Meanwhile, Nobi from Doraemon cries with the help of two slices of onion; and the golden details of Dragon Ball‘s prideful Vegeta‘s suit are actually pieces of tortilla chips.
To stay up to date with Tanaka's creations, make sure to follow him on Instagram.

Expressions of Alterhumanity: A Shared Experience
When we talk about alterhuman expression, like the concept itself, it is often something personal, singular, and individualized.
But as a community, we do have community expression.
These come in the forms of inside jokes, in-community memes, events like howls, or as a convention hosted. It’s in the form of various collaborative digital zines, the data presented from the many surveys, even as some within a system engage in these miniature community expression through the creation of a collective sona.
The soup meme (Daski, Othercon), the various community mascots out of the “create a creature” panels in conventions (Daski and Nova), slogans and sayings like “feed your local archivist” (Page) or “you can do whatever you want forever” (Centaurus Festival).
It’s us putting forth ideas together, and all of our personal experiences combined into an amalgamation of expressions.
It can also still be a mixture of personal and community. In character maker shared, and everyone presented what they’d used the character builder to make something as close to an approximate of their identities, and showed it to their fellow community members. It is sort of amazing how even when using the same tool, we all are each so distinctively ourselves.
We may come together to put together a playlist with songs that connect to each of us differently, and maybe when others listened, they also found new songs they resonate with.
We may participate in community-wide art trade or gifting, getting to learn about our fellow alterhumans via expressing via art their various identities. Or maybe visual artists put down their brushes to paint scenes that capture the moment between members.
It is always in between the terminologies created to speak of our experiences, the long discussion we shared about our perspectives and stories, the prompts inviting folks to create and express our identities or selves, and the very community we made in various forms, physical meetups or virtual—on discord, dreamwidth, tumblr, reddit, tiktok, amino, bluesky, facebook, forums, etc.
And sometimes, we just want all flock and lounge on a sunny rocc, making noises at each other and sharing our food together.

where: somewhere public who: open @aurorabaystarter
While Alara didn't have her own shop or anything, her cousin had let her set up a little work studio in his house, which Alara was definitely grateful for. She didn't really have any other way of making income, and there weren't many jobs going for a seamstress. Alara had posted about her services to the community Facebook page that she'd found, as well as making a few little posters to hang around town with her number on them, offering her services for mending and adjusting garments, to full costume creation. Though Alara didn't expect much of that.
Still, she was grateful for any jobs that came her way, brown eyes coming up as she heard footsteps, recognising the person who'd messaged her on Facebook. "Hi. I'm Alara."

Just learned one of my favorite Ocean liner/Titanic artists, Anton Logvynenko, is dead.
From the Titanic community, I've learned he is Ukrainian and joined their military last year, to protect his homeland from Russia. He was killed fighting in the front lines on November 27.
His post from his Facebook page talking about joining the fight: link
"Hello there ocean liners lovers!
I'm sorry for not being posting here my new artworks or any updates for a while... The process of creation one digital drawing takes about 3 months itself but now situation is more complicated.
As you may know, russia has attacked my country and they are trying to occupy the whole Ukraine and even move forward to Europe. So I joined our Military Forces of Ukraine to protect my homeland.
I hope to get back to you soon with my new drawings after our Victory. But till this happens I ask you to support Ukraine and our army in any suitable for you way.
Thank you very much.
Sincerely yours, Anton Logvynenko"

unhelpful tips and resources for gifs&gfxs
Hi everyone, I don’t know how useful this post will be but I wanted to share some of the things I learned through the years of creating content for tumblr and also new information I find every now and then. I see lot of new people who start creating content here and I want to help with what I know.
Note: I won’t upload any tutorial of mine or anything because I believe the resources I will link here will be more useful than just a tutorial that I won’t be able to explain well because English is not my first language. Let’s start!
First of all, few words about tumblr and how it works. Tumblr is a site with many communities. Every user has its own blog that can post many kinds of content, including a text, photo, video, audio, art etc. When you first join the site it might be overwhelming but in reality, it is not (*whispers* I personally find instagram harder to understand how it works).
Like every site tumblr has its own search bar, tags, likes, reblogs(share on fb,rt on twitter),and follows. When you search a blog to follow and you see their posts you can like their post by tapping on the heart and share(reblog) by clicking on the two arrows button that looks like the recycle icon.
What does reblog mean and do?
Reblog is as we said the “share the post” of facebook, with reblog you don’t repost someone’s content but you share it with your followers and help it to be seen bymore people that way you actually help the creator to promote their creations.
Likes
Unlike, instagram, twitter and facebook, when you like something the website doesn’t recommend the post to your followers unless they go to your blog via their phone and go to your likes page, if you have it unlocked, so basically, likes don’t help with supporting creators as much as reblog does.
Tags
Tagging system on tumblr, in my opinion, is pretty fun both for the op of a post and for the reblogger. With tagging you can organize all the posts on your blog by anything you like. For example, if you tag artworks as #art and you want to find a certain artwork you reblogged a time ago you can just go to the tag and find it.
For op you can use tags the same way as other sites to promote your work, as I remember the first 5 tags will be shown on the general tag like if you search on tumblr #artwork and you have the tag #artwork on the first 5 it will be shown there.. but I am not sure if this changed.
Creating a post
As you can see from your dashboard(timeline on twitter) you have the option to create a text form post, a photo form post.. etc. You can experiment with all of these, don’t be afraid. I will focus on photo form posts because we will talk about gifs and gfxs.
The photo form(with the camera icon) post, is what most content creators use to post their creations like designs/graphics,art/fanart/photography, and gifs.
The site allows you to post 10 photos(if you want to post more I think Text form allows more).
The size of your photos and gifs must be under 20mb for photos and under 10mb for gifs.
As for dimension, tumblr has its own dimension but you can always post whichever you want, the bad thing is that the quality will be reduced on the dashboard and the viewer will have to click on every single photo in order to see the original quality. Here are the dimensions:
For a single photo/gif per columna it is 540px horizonatally
For 2 photos/gifs per columna it is 268px x 268px
For 3 photos/gifs per columna it is 177px x 178px x 177px (be careful the middle one always has to be 178px)
Themes
When you feel comfortable with using tumblr, you can customize your blog with beautiful themes that talented people have shared here!
You can find and learn about themes here: @/theme-hunter
Gifs/gfxs
In this part, I will provide links and tutorials for gifs and graphics, But first of all you need a program for content creation. The most common one is Photoshop, you can buy a subscription from Adobe(it is expensive) or you can find crack version on the internet.
Chaoticresource has a whole tag for photoshop and many more programs for you to start with photoshop. Not only that they have a whole list of resources for both giffing and graphic making. You can find their tag list with everything you need to here.
Here are some tutorials on how to make a gif
