Silk polycule has to be the EXACT worst people to all be in a car with. I could not handle that. Not for a damn minute. With all just them it's great, but the second another person enters that vehicle ALL HELL BREAKS LOOSE. King starts crying, Loop and Siffrin are arguing over the radio and Isabeau is quietly Not Having Fun while driving. Cannot be good.

i decided to get needlessly curious about the progression of time in tfota, then realized there wasn't much about it online. so for the like. two other people in the world who care about this stuff, here's what I've got:

jude says her birthday is nov 13, 2001 when telling dain a series of truths + one lie. the lie is that she can't swim, so we can assume this is truly her birthday

madoc says the new king will be coronated on the autumn solstice, which typically falls in late september (if you want to be really annoying about details, the autumn solstice was on sep 23 in 2019, the year tcp is set)

jude is seventeen at the beginning of tcp (7 yrs old when taken to faerie, and tcp takes place 10 years after that). given the timing of the coronation and her november birthday, she turns 18 during the time skip between tcp and twk (happy bday queen, pls take it easy on poisoning yourself)

twk starts with 5 months of jude's bargain with cardan already past, and by the end (when he proposes) 7 months of the bargain have gone by. this puts us at like... springtime. maybe april?

then there's the tqon exile time jump, which the internet says was four months (i tried looking in the book and couldn't find an exact number, but jude does make a comment about it being early autumn near the beginning of tqon, so this (or even slightly longer) checks out)

tqon timeline is a little foggy but it's pretty fast-paced, so I'm going to posit that it's about a month (feel free to drop details below, i just couldn't find much)

tldr: tfota all takes place in the span of about a year, which we already knew, but it's fun (for me lol) to see it all laid out. jude is presumably not far from her 19th birthday when she's officially coronated at the end of tqon. this also means that oak’s books are set in the future! (2028, i think?)

also, if I’ve done the math right, jude was exiled in the mortal world in 2020, so covid does not exist in this universe. good for them

tbh I don’t think therapy would have fixed Jayce and Viktor lmao. maybe would have softened their self-destructive tendencies but there’s no fixing that co-dependent relationship. Heimerdinger Mel and Sky are told “yeah, I can help treat their individual depressions but nothing is gonna reduce their co-dependency. I’m pretty sure separating them makes it a lot worse for not only them but much worse for everyone else. for everyone’s safety I suggest they’re not allowed to be more than a buildings length away from each other and even that is pushing it.” That therapist then quits on the spot cause now they’ve literally seen everything.

It’s like that scene in Brooklyn nine nine where all the physiatrists are observing and talking with Gina but instead it’s a whole crew of therapists and neurologists and physiologists trying to find out how these two men literally mind-melded together. They go to couples therapy but it’s literally just individual therapy held together because why tf not it’s the only way to get them to go.

I have been considering the fact that the first time we see the "wolf" side of Mel Medarda is in an interaction with family. With her brother who is not her brother. Of what we've seen of Mel thus far, we have never used violence/might. She is well versed in Vision and in Guile, but at that moment, in the Oculorum, Mel has never been more Ambessa's daughter as she is in that moment. She exercises Might, bashing not-Kino's head into the wall, and she also exercises Sacrifice. She sacrifices her desire to believe her brother is alive, her love for Kino, on the altar of her survival.

It's very symbolic and possibly even prophetic, the way she becomes Wolf in the face of someone she considers family. She is defensive to the very person she is supposed to trust. It's my opinion that this "Wolf" mindset against her family will flow into Act 3. When Mel returns and sees what her mother has done to her city, no doubt she will be inclined to become the Wolf against Ambessa. But then, in doing so she would become like her mother. But if it is for the survival of the ones she cares for, if push comes to shove, I think Mel will do what needs to be done to protect her city, even if it means turning against her family.

I heard Starscream had another friend in a different continuity, what if TFOne Starscream also had his own Genvo too, but he died during those 50 cycles when they were being hunted down. I like to headcanon TFOne Starscream used to be a scientist before but decided to join the High Guard when the war with the Quintessons got more serious. Imagine Starscream decided to join the High Guard first and his friend decided to follow him when he heard Star was enlisting, but only one of them makes it back alive.

I think about how hopeless and desperate the High Guard's situation was throughout the 50 cycles with no end in sight as energon stopped flowing probably going hungry, they were being hunted down by Quintessons/Sentinel, their strongest leaders/comrades in arms were killed in front of them, betrayed, and trying to survive on the surface's dangerous landscape. I think as time passed many gave up hope or resigned themselves that they would never see home again giving into despair after cycles of suffering. Starscream probably feels the same way and feels pretty hopeless about their situation too. But as the leader Starscream probably knows he does not get the luxury of expressing those doubts without sending everyone else spiraling so even if he feels hopelessness about their situation he has to pretend he is okay and put on a front that he knows what he is doing and that they will succeed in taking down Sentinel one day to get them to survive another day.

There's a line in one of my favorite book series (Animorphs) where one of the characters reflects that "A leader has to give people hope. Even when he doesn't have much himself" and I think Starscream knew this. But it is a very lonely way of living being leader in such a hopeless situation as others can at least potentially express doubts about things or commiserate with each other, but as leader you cannot do that without affecting those under your command. I think some part of him subconsciously adopts the mindset that to an extent, on an emotional level, to be a leader is to be alone. And every decision you make holds the burden of potentially getting your troops/friends killed, but someone has to make the hard decisions even if some decisions are ruthless as you weigh the lives of those you may consider friends to keep as many people alive.

I keep meaning to mention that I love love LOVE the bits where Bauhauzzo and Huzzle Mug talk like each other. Both have such deeply distinct and differing speech styles that it's very obvious when it happens (I love Huzzle's silly Bauhauzzo Pose too) and yet, it's so natural to them? It really hammers home just how important they are to each other and how well they know each other. I kept bringing their various messages to each other to see what the other said (and also bc I wanted Huzzle to know Bauhauzzo didn't abandon it aaaaaaaa).
