warrior cat twitter be so funny cause you’ll have someone say “i wish rootspring wasn’t being set up to move on from bristlefrost so quickly” which is understandable considering it’s only been a handful of months since TBC and they’ll get spammed with replies like “well ACTUALLY 🤓 i think it is good to show him moving on past his girlfriend’s death!!! don’t you want him to not be miserable for the rest of his life!!!!” and yeah sure but what tom in this series hasn’t moved on from the death of his love interest and was given a new one (sometimes multiple) after only a few moons with kits and everything once their obligatory angst for five seconds quota has been fulfilled. also wild take but i don’t think someone absolutely needs to have a wife and ten kids in order to gain a renewed sense of happiness and peace idk.

someone (rightfully) pointed out how the writing feels very flat and i think with that in mind, i also just don’t buy ivypool as a character who would internally monologue her grief. it’s a big consequence of the authors “telling and barely showing” writing style that her grief can’t manifest in more physical and emotionally constipated ways.

So now that we know cats unfade when they’re remembered, it really puts mapleshade’s actions in a new light. Her first attempt to set up her trainees to rule the clans (thistleclaw, brokenstar, crookedstar) and the way she broke the ‘dark forest cats must walk alone’ premise to make an all-out war? Just so happen to coincide with her being a fading cat cuz nobody remembers her?

I think that was mapleshade’s plan. We know even though she didn’t have the Rank of dark forest leader, even tigerstar was scared of her. We know that just the dark forest cats, numbers-wise, couldn’t stand up to starclan, much less the living cats pitching in to help. We know that there were only like 10-15 recruits from the living clans to the dark forest and exactly one named one of them decided not to turn on the dark forest when the fighting started.

It’s pretty easy to imagine mapleshade setting up a situation that wouldn’t destroy the clans, using brokenstar and tigerstar as figureheads/fall guys when the plan inevitably fails, not getting her hands dirty by being in the thick of the fighting, she just picked off one medicine cat and that’s it, then escaping with her life, and all the living cats remembering her name.

A genuinely fascinating article has dropped on the warriors website about the creation of Ivypool’s Heart (full story spoilers in the article!)

I would highly advise everyone give it a read because it is really interesting, and it goes a bit into the creative process for dotc as well.

Some major highlights

StormClan was originally conceived as far back as the creative process for “Shadowstar’s Life”.

Ivypool’s Heart was set when it was in order to allow Ivypool and Rootspring time to process their emotions while it was still close to Bristlefrost’s death. The team knew they wanted to take these characters away from the clans but also needed a threat that wouldn’t draw leaders away from the current RiverClan conflict.

Work first started on Ivypool’s Heart about eighteen months ago.

And probably most excitingly (imo) there is a hint at the end of the article that we will be revisiting Galestar’s era in the “near future”.
